LOVE living here
My husband and I moved in to the Crest about five months ago. I LOVE IT. The grounds are beautiful and it is a gated complex, so you feel very safe. There is a pool and fitness center, as well as laundry rooms on each floor. I do not know how anyone could say that it is noisy here, because it is EXTREMELY quiet. The manager, Heather, is a complete sweetheart and does everything in her control to make you happy. The maintenance guy, Dave, is awesome and he comes WHENEVER you have a problem that needs to be fixed. I love the location, just a couple of blocks from the ocean. Your car is extremely safe in the gated parking lot. Although there are not guest spots, there is plenty of room for guests to park on the street. I have never had a problem getting use out of the laundry room, as there are 3 washers and dryers on each floor. I am surprised that we get so much for the amount that we pay for our apartment. I would recommend it to anyone thinking about moving into the PG area. As for cell phone reception, EVERYWHERE in PG has bad reception. That cannot be blamed on the apartment complex. My husband and I got a "booster" from the verizon wireless store and we have full bars in our apartment. As for the age of the complex, Pacific Grove is an old town. Most of the buildings are old, and it makes it very quaint. If you want to live in a very expensive apartment complex that is a little bit newer, then check Monterey. But I 100% recommend this apartment complex.

Better Choices in Pacific Grove
Pros: Close to the beach, immaculate grounds, safe neighborhood, well maintained pool, guest suite for visiting family. Cons: Very thin walls, poor management, unsafe stairs, poor parking layout, expensive/shoddy laundry equipment, cell phone signal non-existent in the area (all providers), noisy neighbors, roof drainage issues, old age of building, high rents, low water pressure, location relative to other peninsula locations is cold/cloudy/foggy. I lived here for 1.5 years and I believe this place was managed more efficiently prior to the arrival of the new complex manager, heather. The location is a nice as you can literally see the water from some parts of the complex and you can walk to the beach in 5 minutes. The neighborhood is also safe and generally quite. The butterfly reserve is just next door. The grounds are kept in great shape and are regularly groomed. The place is loud though as the walls are very thin. If you like hearing your neighbors get it on and enjoy hearing toilet seats slam in the apartment under/above you, this is the place. At the rate one pays to live here, this just isn't acceptable. The laundry rooms always have units out of service and repair is generally slow. They have had a slew of maintenance men, but the current one seems ok. There is only one laundry room per floor and this presents a problem, as there is an inadequate ratio of units/washing facilities. Parking is tight and spots are generally narrow. Your car is completely safe at this location though, I've never heard of a break-in. There is only one entrance/exit, which is from a design standpoint a serious flaw. On-street parking exists around the area, but it's heavily choked with overflow from the crest and other facilities. The age of the building is a drawback; it must be at least 40 years old. Many rooms have soft spots in the floor and the bathrooms are in need of repair/remodel. That said, the kitchens in the units are generally in good shape with a dishwasher and garbage disposal. Check your patio sliding door, most of these need replacement. Water problems are frequent and systematic. It would be a low estimate to say that out of a calendar year, the water was only turned off for 30 days. I'm not sure if this is bad management planning or endemic of the sewer lines of the town. Obbviously, the lines have been there a while. The water pressure can be an issue, especially cold water. The hot tub seems to always have issues, this really irks some individuals. Cell phone signal is non-existent in this area. If you are considering living in this area, consider getting a broadband signal booster. It's the entire area within .5 mile of this complex, all the way to the beach. It's cold, cloudy and foggy in this area. If you are prone to being cold or downtrodden in the fog, reconsider your choice to live in this area of pacific grove. Rent is high for what you get. They've been raising it lately and I suspect it will rise further under the new management. Overall, I'd give this place 2 of 5 stars, or below average. My advice is to not be fooled by the sales pitch, look elsewhere.
