excellent for the first year, spottier there after. seems to be constant turnover in management and conceierge staff. long term residents are not valued, it seems that new residents get better appliances, new paint etc.

Exactly what I expected. The website description and photos are accurate and the staff is helpful and pleasant. A real positive is that they are pet-friendly and you can walk your dog on the national mall daily.

Beautiful building, attentive staff, amazing location and rooftop views - cannot be beat if you're will to pay the price! We love how much space we have and how quiet our apartment is (we never hear our neighbors). The proximity to everything - running on the Mall, commuting to work, great restaurants and bars - is one of the main reasons we chose the Newseum Residences, on top of the fact that the building is so modern and spacious with great amenities. The only thing missing is a pool!

Please see earlier. As previously stated, the management is good, the events appreciated, the location excellent. The only real negative is the noise on C Street from the Newseum commercial docks and buses.

I recently moved into the Newseum Residences at 565 Pennsylvania Ave NW in Washington, DC. The move was something that came up at the last minute and I needed to find a place to live very quickly. I had prior experience living at the Newseum Residences so I already knew that they are a first class operation and located very conveniently within the District of Columbia. The sales person at Newseum Residences who helped me was Desiree. She was outstanding.. She answered my questions; returned my calls promptly; helped me resolve obstacles; and was able to help me find the apartment at the Newseum Residences that fit my needs perfectly. Desiree was extremely courteous and professional in all respects. Because I didn't have furniture she was able to quickly direct me to an excellent source and to have the furniture delivered within 24 hours of the beginning of my lease. From a Thursday to a Monday Desiree made everything work. I moved into the Newseum on a Sunday and, just as Desiree had said, everything was waiting (and i was expected by the Concierge) for a smooth beginning. The Newseum staff : From Sales, to Concierge, to maintenance staff, they are all really good at their jobs an reliable to follow through. The bottom line, couldn't be better. Thank you.

I highly recommend this community. The location can't be beat, the staff are responsive and friendly, and there are tons of amenities and activities. I would have gladly continued living there without hesitation if there was an option to buy, except that paying rent no longer made good economic sense.

The location cannot be beat if you work at the Capital. This apartment building is located in an amazing place and the staff is generally nice. So far we have not had any issue with the residences or noises for this location. The roof view is fabulous for when you grill. However, the actual apartment is nothing special and most annoying is the periodic lack of hot water for the shower. We will have hot water for all the sinks, but not the shower. Strange no?

A follow-up to my review on 05/12/2013: My husband and I are now renting directly from the Newseum. Oakwood chose not to honor our request to make our corporate housing unit (#411) move-in ready with new carpeting and paint (both were dirty and damaged). So, we did not renew our lease with Oakwood. We signed a lease with Bozzuto instead and just moved into the most lovely, pristine apartment. We couldn't be happier. Thanks Desiree!

Building is in fantastic location, very well maintained and great customer service. Brittany Frankel was very professional and helpful and by far the most professional compared to other similar buildings I looked at.

My wife and I stayed at the Newseum in a corporate rental 1 BR. We really wanted to stay! I do not see how a living situation could be any better. The building, amenities and staff are pretty much perfect. The location is amazing.

I just finished helping my boyfriend relocate to DC from out of state, and we have been thrilled with the Newseum Residences so far. First, I want to say how easy the renting process was, especially considering we were renting sight unseen. We saw plenty of pictures, and got all the necessary info in order to make our decision. You can correctly assume that when you are paying such a hefty sum in rent, you should expect excellent customer service. However, I was still presently surprised with how much help I got from Brittany, who helped us with our lease. She answered emails promptly, and seemed to go above and beyond what was necessary. There was only a little snafu at move in. We had reserved the freight elevator, but when we arrived, couldn't find the concierge to help us get set up. It must have been shift change or something. Then, before we could unload anything, we had to spend an hour filling out paperwork. I understand wanting to get that out of the way before you give somebody keys, but that left me idling in the street with a rented UHaul for close to an hour. Not quite as smooth a process as we would have preferred. The apartment itself is lovely. Very light, with your standard modern apartment features. Gas stove, granite, etc. Water is HOT right away, which is great. Washer and dryer in unit is a blessing and a curse, as it is very, very loud. However, we don't really hear the neighbors at all, so that is nice. Parking is what parking is. Underground garage with restricted access, so it feels very safe. Actual spaces are a little tricky, but I think that is because of our specific location, and the size of our vehicle... All in all, we're very pleased with the Newseum. Brittany, especially, has been a blessing. We also love that they are really, truly pet friendly. Hopefully our experiences with the Newseum continue to be so positive.

Although a great location,...
Although a great location, all the apartments open onto C Street, which is the noisiest street in DC. The loading docks for the Newseum (which has daily and nightly events, a cafeteria, and the restaurant The Source) are noisy from 5:30 am to 2 am. The noise never stops. Buses of people arrive daily for the Newseum, sometimes 8 buses are idling outside. 20/7 of noise, fumes, and sometimes cigarette smoke is what residents face.

My wife and I recently moved out from the Newseum Residences after living there for a year. We really enjoyed living here. We chose this building primarily because of its close proximity to Capitol Hill. One of us works in the Capitol and it was great being able to walk to and from work. Our reason for moving out was that one of us took a job that required commuting back and forth between two east coast cities, so we suddenly needed to pay two rents and have moved to a less expensive location. If you need a location close to the Capitol or other senate/house offices and can swing the rent for this part of town, I highly recommend living here. See below for more detailed comments. Sorry, but I don't have any pics readily available to upload with this review, but check out http://www.newseumapts.com/photo_gallery/ for good pics of the building. The other building we strongly considered not far from this building was the Woodward Building near 15th and H. We liked Newseum apts a little more even though rent was slightly higher and were excited to choose to live here and never regretted it. We love this building and this management group (Bozzuto). I am giving the nit-picky details below to help people who may have slightly different priorities, but, again, we loved living here. Facilities: Great building- roofdeck is awesome with spectacular views of Capitol and Washington Monument for grilling with small parties (they have a rule limiting to groups of no more than 6 but this is somewhat negotiable, and if you are well behaved, other residents won't typically complain). Also great for fireworks on 4th of July. The 2nd floor lounge has free coffee 24-7 (awesome!)-- just help yourself- occasionally free cookies too and first monday of the month bagels and pastries from Einstein's Bruegger's or another bagel place. The exercise room is decent enough for you to forego a gym membership unless you are super hardcore and is usually empty early in the AM- ellipticals, treadmills, some dumbbells, yoga mats, medicine balls, a single nautilus type machine. There is also an office suite with two computers with internet, fax, and printer on 2nd floor in common area. Staff: The concierge staff is universally professional and friendly with prompt responses and good attention to detail. Adrian and Davelyn are especially helpful and full of great information. We had no major problems with any fixtures. The building mgt has repair staff that replace light bulbs and respond extremely quickly to any concerns. You can drop off dry cleaning at the frontdesk and get peapod grocery delivery. Concierge will help you out by letting people in who need to get in when you aren't home. Residents: Most people seem to be professionals (a lot of lawyers/lobbyists). Not too many families with children- more young couples aged 30s-50s with small dog or cat- some empty nesters as well. We generally kept to ourselves, but everybody is really friendly and respectful. The building hosts frequent events that seemed fun, but, we didn't participate in many of them. Neighborhood: Plenty of restaurants and walkable to museums, movie theaters, bars, verizon center, eastern market, chinatown. Very easy to get to DCA by taxi ten minutes, metro 35-40minutes with no transfer - just get on at Archives/Navy memorial and go to airport, or walk/ride a bike (twenty minutes by bike)--- there is an excellent trail you can pick up near jefferson Memorial that crosses potomac and takes you right to the C terminal garage and a bike rack- this was one of my favorite novelties of living here-- riding a bike to the airport-- so cool. You are also less than a mile to Union Station and amtrak. One aspect of living here that will occasionally frustrate you slightly (especially if you drive a car) is that events like fun runs, marathons, presidential motorcades will occasionally block your path to the garage. Police sometimes barricade off 6th street south of D and you might have to show them some ID or explain that you live in the newseum residences before they let you pass (garage entrance is on C street next door to the back entrance of the Canadian Embassy). One time the president was speaking at the Newseum next door and the apt building was put on lockdown for a few hours-- nobody allowed in or out including residents. They always give you fair warning before this stuff happens and the disruptions happened on average only once every 2 months or so. Being a touristy part of the town the availability of convenience stores by foot is a little limited. The CVS near 8th and E streets is your best bet for late night limited groceries. The safeway near 5th and New York Avenue is nearest grocery store. I strongly recommend using peapod online grocery service through giant if you live here. The neighborhood can be noisy with police ambulances and fire truck traffic as both 6th street and Pennsylvania Avenue are fairly busy streets most times of the day. One of us works nights sometimes and would occasionally need to sleep during the day. There was never any problem getting adequate rest even during the heavier traffic times. Apartment layout/appliances: Nice new appliances and good (not great) water pressure in showers. People with thick, long hair will notice but still be happy with the water pressure in the shower in the big spacious bathroom with tons of cabinet space and plenty of room to maneuver. We were in a 1 bedroom unit with 1.5 bathrooms. Although the square footage seems ample for a couple (~850sq ft), the floor layout in this style apt is a little tricky in terms of finding space for both a dining table seating area along with a living room space with couch, TV, desk. We just went without a dining table for the year and used bar stools at the kitchen island/counter or ate sitting on the couch. Maybe you can come up with a better solution. One slightly weird thing about the apts is that the windows don't open much at all (only a few inches), which makes it feel a little corporate and less homey. Units are extremely well ventilated, so I never felt stuffy or trapped. Plus the windows are great big plate glass so you have excellent views of the outside. Really not that big of a downside, but worth mentioning as an idiosyncrasy of these apts. Plenty of closet space (there is a walk-through closet room adjoining the bedroom and bathroom) plus a hall closet in the entrance hallway. The bedroom is spacious enough for a queen or king bed two dressers and night table(s). Parking: there is a nice garage underground with assigned spots. $300/month in addition to rent is steep but competitive for this part of town. You might be able to get away with zipcar or no car-- there is a zipcar office and bikeshare all within close proximity to the building. Safety: you are in a city so (obviously) be aware and use common sense. Each evening there are anywhere from 3-8 homeless people who sleep around the entrance to the museum part of the Newseum (around the corner on Pennsylvania Avenue far from the entrance to the apartments.) I never felt particularly unsafe living here. I am a 30 year old male and would run at night around the Capitol and the memorials and felt safe enough. The concierge is very good about screening people at the front door. The restaurant foot traffic for The Source (great restaurant in your building if you live here!) is busy on Friday and Saturday night, so there are usually plenty of people around and it is very well lit, touristy part of town.

Wonderful Experience with Churchill Corporate Services at the Newseum Residences
My family and I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Newseum Residences. The unit was amazing, with all the furnishings and amenities of an upscale luxurious condo. There is even a impressive rooftop terrace where residence can have a BBQ and enjoy a panoramic view of the city. The location was excellent. It is attached to the Newseum and right across the street from the National Gallery of Art and within walking distance to most of the top museums and attractions in DC. We rented the unit from Churchill Corporate Services and the unit was beautifully furnished with everything we needed. We were concern after reading the previous review of Churchill, but I am glad that I did not let that stop us. All the people I had in contact with at Churchill Corporate Services, especially Kathy and Michele, were superb. Even though I requested a unit during the peak cherry blossom period at the last minute with very limited availabilty, Kathy worked over time to make sure I got the unit I wanted for all the days that I needed. She even call me after hours to make sure all my questions and requirements were addressed. I was renting the unit for only a week, and yet the staff at Churchill treated me like a VIP. The level of customer service that I received from Churchill was outstanding, and I cannot ask for a better place to stay in DC than the Newseum Residences. When I re-read the previous review of Churchill, I realized it is actually a proof of the superb customer service from Churchill - what other company will exchange all the furniture in the unit THREE TIMES to try to satisfy a demanding tenant who is only staying there for one month!!!?

stonewalled by Churchill Corporate Services
My wife and I rented from Churchill Corporate Services a lovely apartment in a full service building in Washington, DC for 32 days in September/October 2011. It should have been a marvelous experience but turned out to be awful. As did my dealings with Churchill. The apartment had a terrible odor. It was so bad that for three days we stayed out during the day and had to wear masks in bed in order to sleep at night. On viewing it after the long weekend the head cleaning person said the carpet was filthy and had it cleaned. We didn t mind being on wet carpeting for two days as it reduced the odor, but not enough however. The living room furniture had the same stink. We got Churchill to change that furniture but the odor was in the replacement furniture too. We were rebuffed in our request for another apartment, so we asked for a third furniture change which finally made the apartment livable. In addition to paying premium rent, we made a major expenditure of sweat more than money as we bought and went through 4 cans of Febreze, physically moving all the furniture both times to be sure we reached all the possible sources of the odor. The first 20 days of our 32 day stay were miserable. At the end of our lease we asked the DC Vice President for some financial consideration on our rent to partly compensate us for our suffering. He declined absolutely. I appealed to Churchill s CEO who also turned me down flatly. As I persevered with him over a month or so he made, probably just to get rid of me, a token final offer, a $250 credit on a future rental. As it was barely more than a day s rent I declined it. Churchill has a responsibility as a national company to satisfy its customers. Instead of doing that it has shown callous disregard.

Newseum Residences is the best of both worlds!
We have also been at the Newseum Residences since January 2008 and it keeps getting better. The location is perfect but the excellent management and staff rival the spectacular views and sheer comfort. It is very community oriented, too.

Newseum - excellent place to live in DC
The Newseum is a great place to live in DC. Being new to the city, it was great to move into such a prime location. The roof deck is amazing - great views, very nice quality furniture, grills - and a perfect spot to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July. Concierge staff is great - always helpful and willing to offer recommendations to places. Adequate workout room onsite is nice for quick workouts. Parking in basement is very convenient - the spaces are a little tight but workable. Lots of tenants have dogs, which is nice - and some good spots in the area to walk the pooches too. Overall, a great place.
