Good deal, decent apartment
I lived in Chambers Ridge for one year, and overall my experience was pretty positive. I really liked my one bedroom- it was cozy and the perfect size for one person (and one dog). I never had a single maintenance issue the whole year I lived in the building, my apartment had brand new carpets, I had a great balcony, and I liked the neighborhood. Also the building is on two convenient bus lines for UNC- the J, which runs until after midnight on weekdays, and the CM, which comes less frequently but gets you to campus in under 10 minutes. I had no problem getting my security deposit back despite a few marks on the walls and coffee stains on the rug. Also, the office gave me a good deal on my lease. I would strongly recommend negotiating on your lease terms- I got the first month free and $20 knocked off the monthly rent simply by telling the people about move-in specials I was offered at other complexes. My main complaint is that no one in this complex knows how to park without taking up at least two parking spaces. Parking isn't a big problem, but it is very annoying when half the spots near your apartment are taken up by people with no ability to use their mirrors.

Not worth the money....
At first glance, Chambers Ridge looked okay. We had new carpet in our unit and the walls were freshly painted. But after a while, several things about the place started to get on our nerves. First of all, the floorplan includes a lot of angled walls. While these were cute at first, they presented a real problem when trying to arrange the furniture. The cabinets were REALLY old and banged up. In fact, they had labels instructing the owner to use paste wax to polish them. There was a serious mildew problem in the master bathroom, which involved mildew underneath the wallpaper. Speaking of the wallpaper, before we moved in, we told the management that we preferred a unit without wallpaper. Their solution to this was to cover the current wallpaper with texture and paint! (Yes, the mildew was lurking underneath all that!) The laundry area was in the kitchen and was covered by louvred doors that would never stay shut. The air conditioning ducts were apparently connected between apartments, as we could often smell cigarrette smoke in the master bathroom when our next door neighbor lit up. The deck was nice and big, but was constructed of individual boards. So we got trash from our upstairs neighbors on our patio, and any trash we swept up inevitably slipped between the boards onto our downstairs neighbor's patio. The whole unit was dark and depressing. We had a nice view of the trees, but they blocked out most of the natural sunlight. Also, the two-bedroom units are serviced by Piedmont Electric, and our energy bill was typically between $115 and $130 per month. Duke Energy is much cheaper. For the same price, you can get a super nice place near Southpoint in Durham. For a little more, you can get a much newer, fresher unit in Chapel Hill/Carrboro.

Not so good new management.
I can't disagree with the last review more. The old management kept the place in decent shape, was friendly, and the on-staff maintenance was always prompt. The new management, actually, new owners have made the outside of the apartments look a little better with new paint but they have have blocked a major pathway to the street with large rocks....on which I walk over anyway, but it is just an nuisance when walking to the bus in the morning because several times I've almost twisted my ankle. Also for a long time they only had one maintenance person on staff, and while a nice older gentlemen he could only do so much. Even now that they have two, yes two maintenance men, the response time between the management in the office and them is rediculously slow. I've gone many weeks the last three months without air conditioning. The power bill was nice though. Yes, the Apts. have large balconies. Thats about where anything good that can be said stops. Even the foundation is sinking causing big cracks in the walls that have been poorly fixed with large gobs of putty. Oh, and the rent has gone up for NO good reason. Can't say I recommend this place.

so glad to be out of there!
I'm on my way to finally being out of this hole. I thought it was a good idea to move in with a roommate at this complex and although my roommate and I got along fine, I did not like living here at all. The staff is not helpful. When the companies changed there was someone that was nice and pretty cool to talk to about problems (and trust me we had problems) but she's gone and I don't even want to go near the office because the people here do not even know what they are doing. She must have been a ploy to make residents happy with the owner change. These apartments are old, dingy, noisy and gross. I know I'm a poor grad student and can't live "high end" but if you have standards and care about your surroundings this is not the place for you. Good luck on your hunt.

Management issues
I lived in Chambers Ridge Apts for 4 years. The first 2 were fine, because the on site manager was great. The last 2 years there was a different manager and she was almost never in the office during posted hours on days that rent was due and didn't come across as very professional. She also complained to me a lot about routine things she had to take care of with the property (dealing with non-payers, a water line issue, planting flowers, getting the pool cleaned, etc), which always left me irritated, because it's her job to do these things. There was indeed a span of 9-10 months with no on site repairman, once they hired someone he was ok. When I left another management company had just taken over, so I don't know if things will get better-try it at your own risk. I did have issues from the new management getting my deposit back, but it was eventually sent to me. The new management is doing general upkeep on the exterior of the property, which was much needed. I did also have my car broken into one time while living at Chambers Ridge although the apartments themselves seemed relatively safe to me. The benefits of the complex are the big deck and proximity to UNC.

Great place to live
This is the quietest complex that I have ever lived in. There are never any parking problems or noise issues. I haved lived here for close to a year, and I am righ tin the middle of the complex. I never see people or events that I would title "sketchy,<br>" scary," or anything out of the ordinary. The staff hear is low key, but I consider that a plust. To the point.....I love this place. My apartment is small, but well worth the value.

car vandalism
My car has been vandalized 3 times, my roommates care has been vandalized twice. "Adequate paking" is meaningless unless your car is safe. and it's not here.

Completely Deteriorated
I have lived in this apartment for two years and seen the entire complex go downhill. There is no hope of an on-site maintenance man anymore, which might be okay if the A/C, dishwasher, or oven worked properly. In two years, the other residents have gone from friendly, pleasant people, to sketchy people who look - and act homeless. Parking lot is NOT well lit, and the management does not seem to care. The management here is listless at best, downright neglectful at worse. I'd hate to see the state of this complex in a year - thank goodness I'm leaving!

Been here 4 years
Current management doesn't do much (last management mulched yearly, pressure washed the buildings, etc.) and the place hasn't been painted in a LONG time. Do not rent on the ground floor, as stereos and chatter will be right out your window as cars pull up. Electricity in the summer is ~$75, in winter ~$100/mo. Another unit I was in it was only $35/mo in summer, but it was under trees!!<br>Not a lot of loud undergrads compared to the rest of town, but I agree with another reviewer that current management is letting more sketchy folks in. They still haven't replaced the maintenance guy who left (and he would fix your a/c on a 95o day when it went out!!)

Love it
I have lived here for 2 years now and am still in love with the place. Granted, they do need to find a new maintenance person soon, but everything else is wonderful. The noise level is as close to zero as possible. The neighbors are all nice. The manager is sweet and tries to help you out with whatever you need. I have never felt unsafe here and never had any problems with safety. Parking is never a problem. The apartments are somewhat small, but the coziness and nice large deck makes up for it. Overall, I love this place.

Value, maybe but not recommended
You can get a good value at a little less than $600 for a one bedroom in an area that is not the ------, but...<br>You aren't close enough to town to walk or bike anywhere.<br>Difficult to head west on 40<br>New management is basically incompetent, but nice<br>Have been without on site repair for months<br>Decline in the # of students and increase in the # of sketchy residents [see management above, old management gave a discount to attract students and new apparently does not]<br>Also maintenance even when it was on site was pretty bad.<br>Poor insulation=high energy bills<br><br>All in all not recommended.

Fantastic place to live!
I recently had someone drive by and ask me while I was unloading my groceries from my car if I enjoyed living at Chambers Ridge Apartments and how safe I felt it was. They told me about this website and how our community has been bashed. Don't believe everything you read. My stay here has been great. The staff is very helpful, the property is well kept, and it's very quiet. The only time I've seen a police car here was when an officer lived in my building. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in Carrboro.

Lock your doors and hide your valuables
Do not leave anything in your car if you plan on living here. The parking lot isn't very well lit and I've been robbed just visiting the place.

is okaaay
They are really eager to get people, so play hardball with your negotiations. Parking is easy. Heating bill will be HIGH. I think the apartments are really variable, depending on location. Ours is ideal; others are not. Not everyone who lives here knows it, but by virtue of living at Chambers Ridge, you get a free membership to Millenium gym -- which is great. The maintence guy is this really nice elderly old man, who probably could be a little quicker but he is mostly efficient and definitely has his charm. <br> <br>

AGREED - DON´ T LIVE HERE!
While everyone appears to be very nice, my living in this apartment was awful. My apartment was VERY dark, as it was an UNDERGROUND, WOODS apartment (I was originally given a 1st floor, GROUND apartment). Upon move-out, I discovered a literal infestation of centipedes and milipedes, which I had complained about profusely BEFORE move-out. The spray that was used was not adequate for the apartment I was living in. Too dark, no alarm systems, and my plumbing also busted. It took the maintenance guy several days to complete the work. Perhaps that was because there was only one maintenance man.

DONT LIVE HERE!
We have lived here for over 2 years- over which the property has been in steady decline. The buildings are old and deteriorating. We had a WATER MAIN break in our apt and flood it. The maintenance guy said it was a shoddy plumb job, and they were fixing them when they broke, not before hand. essentially, wait for apts to flood and then change the $5 elbow joint. The neighborhood is poorly lit and surrounding streets just plain dark. We watched the police arrest a man at gunpoint from our back porch. The management raises rent and puts nothing back into the buildings... There are several other apts in the area that have competitive prices.
