I lived at Chambers Ridge for 2 years before I moved out of state and it was a great experience! The balcony is huge and the area was very peaceful with treetop views and quiet neighbors. The staff is amazing! I once had to have luggage delivered to the office since it had been lost on a flight and not only did they bring it up to my apartment for me, but I also had a box of popcorn and chocolates waiting for me when I came home! How nice is that!?

I love my apartment! Pros: The kitchen and balcony. I've never seen a balcony this big anywhere else! It is quiet and my neighbors are all nice. The staff is also very nice and friendly. Cons: No gym. The floor is carpet and tile, not wood. They don't allow grills but they have one by the pool for everyone to use. None of these are that big a deal to me though.

I moved into a 2 bedroom apartment here in September. It has been fantastic so far! My apartment seems bigger than I think it actually is (about 900 sq ft) and they allow you to add decorative touches (like they painted 2 walls for me that are super cute!) Like other reviews have said, it is VERY quiet here. I just found out that I have a neighbor to my upper right (the apartments are staggered where every apartment has its own little 1/2 floor) and they've been here the whole time! The reason why I'm reviewing now though is because they go out of their way to make this place feel like home. They plan things for us all the time and it makes me feel like I'm in a neighborhood instead of an apartment. For example, right now they hid turkeys all over the neighborhood and are giving prizes if you find them all, which is fun. Negatives so far is that there are stairs for most apartments, since the buildings are built into hills, and there are a lot of bugs outside because we are all up in the woods (so far I haven't had any bugs inside except for 1 of those stink bugs when I left my balcony door open). I also wish there was a fitness center here, since I like to go to the gym. Besides these few things, this place is great!

These apartments are not well built. The windows are single pane and leak air really bad. The electricity bils are really high. They are small and cramped. Floor plans not well laid out. When it comes to maintenance, they are the worst. My stove has caught on fire a few times and they have yet to replace it. Also, I call them about repairs and it takes weeks for them to come out and fix. They put in heat pumps to save money, and in the NC climate in the winter, its not cost effective for the electricity. It has to constantly run to keep the coils defrosted. So 200 dollar power bills in the winter and the windows let in cold air on top of that. Its overall a horrible place to live. It is also noisy. The walls are thinly insulated and you hear all your neighbors.

I've been living here for about 2 years now and I really like it! It isn't fancy - no granite counter tops or wood floors like my last apartment - but the price is great for what you're getting. My Favorite Things: 1. My balcony - It is REALLY big. Great place to grade papers or whatever when I want to leave my desk. 2. The View - I'm staring at trees and it is very peaceful. 3. The Quiet - WAY quieter than my last apartment. Easy to get work done, sleep, etc. 4. The Location - I take the bus all the time and it is easy to catch here. Plus, I just like living in Carrboro (I really like Weaver Street Market, Panzanella, Glass Half Full, and the new Steel String Brewery). My Least Favorite Things: 1. The Kitchen Appliances - They all work but they are very old. Edit: I'm increasing my rating because one of my appliances stopped working and they were very quichk about getting me a new one. 2. The Bath Tub - Its a workable tub but I wish it was bigger. Its the only thing I miss about my old, fancier apartment. Overall I give this place a 4.5. I've been happy here!

My husband and I have lived at Chambers Ridge for a year now, and have really enjoyed our time here. The layout, porch, and beautiful wooded surrounding definitely make it feel like a cut above many of the other complexes in the Carrboro area. The staff are great and very helpful, and were pretty quick to respond to our (minor) maintenance requests. We definitely pay a liitle more than friends in nearby complexes, but I think it's well worth it--and unlike the $100 price hikes many friends saw, our rent didn't go up at all when we renewed! Definitely recommend this complex.

Warning: Do not live here!!
Chambers ridge is not the place to move if you want to live in any kind of peace. The insulation in the apartments is terrible, all I hear is tons of creaking from the neighbors walking around upstairs and crying screaming kids downstairs. I have had multiple items that need fixing in the apartment and to which I have notified the office a few times and 2 months later still nothing fixed. the electricity is provided by Piedmont electric co-op, which screws everyone royally. average power bill is a 150 dollars and that's using the minimum air or heat. Trust me you would be better off living anywhere else.

I have lived in this apartment complex for nearly five years. I absolutely love my apartment here! The wooded view and the huge balcony (can't find a bigger balcony anywhere) make for a quiet and peaceful place to unwind at the end of the day. The office and maintenance staff (Jennifer, Maegan, and Owen) are the best! Not one time have I had a maintenance issue that was not addressed promptly. It is so nice to go over to the office and sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and tea and chat for a few minutes. And the monthly community events are so much fun. Yes, this is a great community and one in which I hope to call home for many more years!!!!!!

The perfect balance
I moved to Chamber's Ridge after graduating from UNC, and have been living here one year. Overall, it has been great! The location is perfect if you work on campus like I do. It's very close to bus lines, but far enough away from 54 that you don't have to hear all the traffic. The office staff is always so friendly and helpful (and knows me by name), there is plenty of parking, and the grounds are always well-maintained and pretty. I love that there are wooded areas (not just a couple of scraggly trees and bushes) all around the complex. My apartment is on the third floor, so I don't have to deal with people's footsteps above me, but I have also never heard any noise coming from other apartments nearby. There is a good mix of tenants (grad students, young couples, older residents) and I've never had any trouble with neighbors - everyone I've met has been nothing but friendly. The layout of the apartment is a little small (compared to others I looked at), but there is a HUGE porch on every unit, which is a great feature. Really fun for entertaining guests or other uses - I grew tons of vegetables on it this summer! Additionally, I like that the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the unit, it adds a little privacy. My roommate and I pay an extra $20/month for a washer/dryer in our apartment (there are also laundry facilities on site), which is totally worth it. I really like the open flow of the kitchen and dining areas. Because of the glass doors leading to the porch, the apartment gets a lot of light. I've never had any issues with bugs, mold, leaky pipes, or any of the other normal apartment complex horrors. I'm not sure what the person who wrote the negative review was expecting. Is my apartment as nice as some of my friends who live on the outskirts of Durham and Raleigh? No, but it's like the old saying: "location, location, location". If you want to live in the heart of Chapel Hill/Carrboro, with easy access to downtown and campus via a bus line, you will have to make some sacrifices. Sure, the appliances are a little older, the buildings show a little wear and tear, and the floor plan isn't as spacious, but so what? For the location, the price, and the amenities, you can't do much better than Chamber's Ridge, in my opinion!

Pleasant, well-kept, best in the area.
First off: Re: anonymous's review... Noise? I worked from home, i.e. I was here 24/7 and I only heard a couple of parties, maybe one was on the weekend. Loud neighbors were handled well and quickly. My neighbors were largely grad students, post-docs, visiting academics, working adults, and young families. Most people were either nice or kept to themselves. I lived here for about 14 months and saw a lot of other apartments before and after I chose Chambers Ridge; CR was the best. In Chapel Hill/Carrboro you have to trade off price for security everywhere but here. Chambers Ridge is quiet, in a very nice, established residential neighborhood just off of 54 (no entrances onto 54, an important factor, btw). 10 minute bike to Weaver St. and just down the street from two beautiful lakes (one with summer boat/kayak rental). Yes, the wood-siding lets you know these were clearly built 20 years ago but it suits nicely within the beautiful wooded community. True, some of the appliances could use faster turnover, as color tastes have changed, but if you need new granite counter tops and programmable freezers, why are you living in Carrboro...? Legacy colors aside, everything works and if something breaks down, repair is timely. The place is very well maintained. Again, with a great location, at a great price, I happily recommend Chambers Ridge.

Great for students...
So, if you dont mind constant late night parties and stomping above you at weird hours of the night, then it wont be an issue. The appliances are all from the 70's, the way the place is constructed is a mess with wiring and such. Its great if your here for a short while, but I dont think its worth $855 a month. If they could just spend some extra money on new windows for god sakes my electric bill might not be extreme.

Things have improved . . .
I originally rented my apartment four years ago at the beginning of professional on the basis that 1) the crime rate is extremely low (almost non-existent)in this complex compared with surrounding complexes, 2) the management at the time was friendly and reliable, and 3) the small community was peaceful and surrounded by nature, despite proximity to local highlights (UNC and the charming town of Carrboro!) Several months after I moved in, management changed hands, and things went downhill. In the past year or so, a new management company came in and really made improvements: one reviewer complains first that his apartment was flooding and then that the management re-piped!!! That change was long overdue, and I applaud the new management for tackling it head on: prior to that, I had several leaks. Also, the technical skill of the maintenance people has improved over the years, and the office staff are delightful! If you want to part of a cozy little community, this may be the place for you. I've had plenty of opportunities to move over the past four years (several of my friends in other complexes have moved more than once), but I remained at Chambers Ridge because I loved my apartment (the layout is great and the view from my balcony is excellent), and because in the past year or so the new management has really made it a great place to live!

The Best
As I write this review this evening from my 3rd floor apartment, I have the balcony sliding glass door wide open to let the cool Spring night air in. I can hear an owl or two hootin' up a holler in the trees and I can see a glimmer of light off of the small lake in the distance. I'm waiting for the moon to rise. These apartments are not fancy. There is no jacuzzi bath. No fireplace. But they are the best. The floor plan is spacious and intelligently designed. There are updated details such as real tile floors in the entry way, the kitchen, and the bathroom and stylish light fixtures. A couple walls and my bath are painted in nice accent colors. The balcony uber spacious and the largest one I've encountered in an apartment in this price range. In fact, the balcony is very much like an outside room. The layout of the apartment buildings and community is very much like a ski resort with well appointed wood beams and banisters that arch to A frames. The lawn is lush and green and the filled with lots of flowering trees, oaks, birches, and pines. The laundry room is very clean. And, the little pool is always immaculately clean and surrounded by chaise lounge chairs, a full-size gas grill, and hug potted floral displays. There is also a privacy hedge around the pool. This place is truly a neighborhood. A home. In large part I credit the management. You are not bothered by tons of notices, warnings, and phone calls. If there is ever any issue, the property manager handles it kindly and neighborly with a simple fact to face chat. There is only one monthly newsletter that is comes along with the monthly rent invoice. It's not filled with useless/mindless crapola. It contains a paragraph or two of important community information, the community calendar, and some interesting recipe. There is simply no better place to live. Locally, I've lived in very high end West Village - which I loved - but I love Chamber's Ridge better.

Quiet and safe apartment complex with very friendly office staff. It is conveniently located near three busline(s). It is a perfect location for grad students. The two bedroom layout is great for having a roommate. The maintenance department was very friendly and prompt in answering needs as they arose. My little family whole heartedly recommends Chambers Ridge Apartments to anyone who may be looking.

Great for grad students, friendly staff, wooded setting.
I lived in Chambers Ridge for two years and really enjoyed it. There are three bus lines you can take into campus, all of the units have big storage closets on the deck, the two bedroom floor plan is great for roommates and the management and maintenance are friendly and helpful. There is always plenty of parking, it is rarely noisy, and there are a lot of nice families and young people. The management does a good job of planning community events with free food (always a bonus) so you have an opportunity to meet your and everyone is nice. I totally disagree with the post about re-piping -- they did re-pipe, but we had plenty of notice. It was in the newsletter for a couple of months before it happened, and then it only took two days for them to get it done. Overall I had a great experience.

Great for grad students
I lived in Chambers Ridge for the past year and I loved it! The staff were so accomodating--they knew me by name and were always so kind and efficient. The only two minor inconveniences for me were the lack of bike access to UNC's campus, and the sometimes noisy dogs in the complex. Overall, I highly recommend Chambers Ridge, particularly for graduate students looking for a friendly, comfortable, and mostly quiet environment!

Great neighborhood, great neighbors!
What's not obvious from the mapped location of Chambers Ridge is that it is a GREAT location for those who want to enjoy all that is best about Carrboro. Tucked into the forest, out of earshot of Hwy 54 bypass, even though the bypass is only a stones throw away (an important consideration for those who drive). A 10 min walk on sidewalks to the Park n Ride lot which has dozens of free busses that serve Chapel Hill Carrboro. And if you want to stretch you legs further, you can walk a further 20 min ALL ON SIDEWALKS to be in the heart of Carrboro, drinking coffee at Open Eye or chilling out on the lawn at Weaver St. But you won't feel as though you have to escape Chambers Ridge - my neighbors were friendly, though non-intrusive and VERY quiet. And if you want to chill out together, meet at the pool, or wander down to the picnic tables nestled in the forrest. This really is a GREAT apartment complex, especially if you want a a neighborhood to live in, not just a dormitory to commute to.

Wonderful accommodation
My partner and I arrived from Australia in mid-winter and stayed at Chambers Ridge Apartments for six months while our new condos were being built. We commented almost daily about how quiet it was, and of course we loved the view over the valley and the magnificent trees. We experienced both winter and summer during our stay and found the air-conditioning coped well with all conditions. I took the JFX bus into campus daily - a mere 15 minute journey from the park and ride around the corner. We would highly recommend Chambers Ridge Apartments to others.

Ok for temporary stay
I lived in the Chambers Ridge apartments temporarily while relocating to the Chapel Hill area and looking for a house. The apartment was ok, but I can't imagine living there for a longer time (e.g. permanently). The apartments are ok, clean, no infestation, but the kitchen is outdated and appliances are very inefficient. The apartment is very badly insulated, which combined with a high cost of power (most of the apartments are serviced by Piedmont Energy which has much higher rates than Duke Power), meant a large power bill. Right before I moved out, the rates were to be raised, but I see no reason as no improvements were made. And as of March 2009, you have to pay for water. The complex is very quiet though, hardly ever could hear our neighbors. And there were problems with cell phone reception, pretty much for any carrier. I am not sure why. The apartments are quite conveniently located on the CM/J bus lines and about a 10 min walk to Jones Ferry Park and Ride.

Great if you want to live in a ---- HOLE!!
These apartments are infested with mold and used to flood all the time. The new management re-piped everyone's apartments without sufficient notice in my opinion. I couldn't even stay in my own apartment because my kitchen/ bathroom were wrecked for over a week! Rent is too high for what you get and management sucks! I do not recommend these apartments at all! There are much nicer apartments/ communities in Carrboro for a comparable price.

very pleasant place to live
I have lived at Chambers Ridge since 2006 and it has had it's ups and downs. The previous management was not at all friendly and changed so many times that being a resident you never knew who was going to be in the office when you went to pay rent. The current management does a great job of getting to know the residents and greeting me by my name, its a real personal feeling. My apartment was flooded several times in my years here, but now they have re-piped the whole complex, so I am no longer worried. In previous years, when I had a maintenance issue, it could take days or weeks before anyone would address the problem. There were several times when I had to submit my problem multiple times. Now, I know that when I have an issue, it will be taken care of in a more timely manner. I really feel like a resident now, and not just someone who pays rent. I love the friendliness of the people and peacefulness of the property!

Atrocious Managemet
The place was not up to my personal standards. What is in the showroom looks nothing like the actual apartment. I thought of living there but a friend of mine actually did move in. Adter seeing the apartment, I am happy with my decision to not move in. This person was also treated very poorly by current management.

Like the Unique Layout & Pretty new Items
My apartment has different colored accent walls that are at an angle in the living room, and new tile in the foyer. The manager Kelly is very helpful and I appreciate the way she's helped with the different challenges I've had. I recommend this place. I think I'll be here a while!

Good apartments but current management is horrible. Very unfriendly.
I lived in Chambers Ridge for over one year. During most of this time there was this management (Todd and co.) who were really nice and always helpful. But then towards the end they changed the management and the new lot is really something you need to think about before you decide to rent it. They are very inefficient and unfriendly. I wish the old folks wre back.

Don't live here
Office staff are incompetent!!!!!!!! In less then a year we have had 3 office managers, each of which is worse then the one before. They don't keep the office hours posted. The apartments are not well maintained and when anything goes wrong they just tell you it is because apartments are old. Please think twice before renting one of these apartments. Also, they are poorly insulated...you'll pay a fortune in utilities.
