Towpath Apartments are located on nice grounds. But this is where it stops. Very cold in winter due to old windows which management won't replace. Very hot in summer due to poor insulation. No renovations to the kitchen, bathroom and no carpet replacement is done while tenants live there even if for many years. My kitchen was old and ugly, bathroom from the 60's and dark. Carpet was used when I moved in and after a few years it got very used but it was my problem. Office is ALWAYS closed. Staff is unfriendly. I had once rude maintenance guy bang at my door and threaten to send police. I had TV on but to this day don't really know what his problem was. Very unaccommodating and rude in winter when they plough. Laundry rooms are advertised as "state of the art" but are a joke - filthy, dark and often submerged in water. Salem Management won't even say thank you for your business and I had lived there for quite a few years. They made tens of thousands on me and only correspondence I got from them were monthly bills, letters with rules and penalties. Once, only once in over 60 months was I late with payment and I was immediately penalized. New Jersey apartments are a shame and people who own them are rude and ruthless crooks. They charge you astronomic money for poor living conditions. They don't allow pets contributing to millions of euthanized pets in this country. Towpath apartments are no exception. Don't make a mistake by moving here.

moving out....

overall, place is a C- many complaints, and a couple things i liked right now my biggest issue is finding someone who works here to talk to me NOBODY IS HERE!!! i am moving out at the end of the week and nobody is here to review my apartment with me..... which is one thing they stressed i needed to do this is 7 work days now without anyone here oh, and ive left 2 messages that have never been returned at least be professional people

I used to live in Towpath apartments, my problem isnt with the place, but the compsny that owns them Salem Management. I Just had my credit pulled and Salem Management put negative(s) on it for a $100 they say I still owe them. I hant live there for 3 years! I had left a forwarding adress and recieved no bill. I just want people out there to no the management company at this place is a bunch of crooks and they will screw you !!!!1

WORST PLACE EVER!!

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! This place has hit rock bottom in the past few years. Used to a grreat place to live, but no more. They obviously let ANYONE move here! Aso old tenants leave, they are replaced by thoughtless, loud people who have absolutely no consideration for others. It's VERY noisy here!!!!!!!! Plus you can NEVER speak to anyone in the office. She's NEVER here! And when she is, she's not only rude, but will never write down repairs for maintenance. Don't get me started on her!!! It took me weeks to finally view an apartment, even though the sign says office open 9 - 5. That should have been a warning to me!!! The laundry room is filthy, dark and often flooded. I go to a laudrimat to do laundry. Maintenance is lazy and rarely show up. When they actually do come, they have a completely negative attitude and do as little as possible. Most of the work is done by outside contractors. I've jusy learned there have been THREE robberies here in the last week and a half. Most like due to outside contractors who've been working here. A VERY UNSAFE PLACE TO LIVE!!!! I WILL NOT RENEW MY LEASE!!! HEED MY WARNING!!!!!

I Give Up!!!!!

Don't waste your time! I've been trying to see an apartment for 3 months now. I have called the office at least 100 times, and stopped by several times between 9 and 5. They really need to get an on site person if they want to rent apartments, why bother putting an ad in the paper stating avalibility, there's no one there to show the apartments. I tried to ask a lawn worker if anyone worked there, but they didn't speak english. While I was driving through I passed a tenant chasing there child, screaming, and swearing. I'm never going back there again. Potential renters beware!!

Great Place

I've lived in Towpath for 5 years before I moved out to the west coast for school. Clean, quiet, well maintained especially with the new maintenance crew. When something needed done it was done same day. Neighbors were great, no complaints there. If it wasnt for school I would still be living there. Highly recommended :)

I've been there 4 years. It was much better maintained with the old super. It seems they let anyone rent here now. They must be getting desperate to find tenants. I am moving out!

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!!! THIEVES GALORE!!!!

I have had stuff stolen out my car, apartment, and patio. I have seen drugs being used at the playground with kids running around. Management is very rude, when you find her there. Maintenance reeks of beer anytime they are need. This place needs an overall Overhall! I will not be renewing my lease, already found a nice place with better rent.

Tenant Review

I have lived here for about 5 years (in 2 different apts)...the first apt was a 1-br, upstairs and I had absolutely no problems, however the 2nd apt is a 2-br, upstairs and it has got nothing but problems...maintenance has been ok at responding (although I think they could be better)...my neighbors are wonderful and they make it not so bad to be here...the windows in my apt are the worst ever, it feels like the window is wide open, the draft is awful! The thermostat to my heat and ac never works...it is either hot or cold, on or off...

Horrible.

I've lived in towpath since 2001. When I firist moved here it was lovely. Things have really gone down hill. It took them 7 years to finally send me a pet addendum to my lease. My door has been rusting off the hinges for 3 years and has not been repaired after numerous requests. The supers came in and did work on my ceiling with out notifying me. I could go on and on. I will be leaving when my lease is up this year and I would not recommend it to anyone.

This is not a place for young families or business professionals. Think twice before you decide to rent at Towpath, there are so many other safer rental options nearby.

wow

it was awesome living there. people were great and staff was wonderful. all those bad comments mostly come from the section 8 people who used to inhabit the old buildings. thank god they redid that area and no longer let them live here!!!!

Lived there one year. Maintenace was slow to repair problems, Upstairs neighbors were loud and and wierd. Buildings werent in the best shape. Laundry room was dark and dirty and in the same room as boilers. Rental Agent\Manager was never there and was unpleasent to deal with. Maintence guys were shady and unkept looking. Overall this place was a year-long nightmare! I would NOT wish my worst enemy to live there!

Peaceful and Quiet.

I have been here since 2004, and don't plan on moving anytime soon. Neighbors are friendly, Staff is great. If you are looking for decently priced housing, in a great family neighborhood, then this is it.

My ex-wife found her boyfriend here

The apartments were ok, but my ex-wife became my ex-wife because she started dating a cop that lived in the apartment above hers. Watch out for those Independance Township detectives. They are wife thieves.

Its ok

Been here for a few months, and have to say that the maintainence department is very responsive. Anytime I had a problem , it was fixed the next day or even the same day. Apartments are nice sized and clean. Lot's of kids though. Some crazy people . Assigned parking is also a bonus, and great with the snowplowing.

I miss it there!!!

I lived in Towpath from 11/02-5/04. I have to say the place felt like home to me. It's clean, it's quiet, and decently maintained. I've lived in 5 complex's in the last 6 years, and I have to say, Towpath was the one where I felt most at home. I'd still be living there now if it wasn't for circumstances causing me to have to me again. I'm now in Oakwood Village in Flanders, and all I have to say is no comparison......this complex is 3 times the size of Towapath, and I must say the phrase the bigger the better doesn't apply to everything! Living in this crap hole makes me miss Towpath bad!!!
