When designing an organized kids‘ room, it is important to remember fun, as well as functionality. Parents have many options for organization that are both easy and effective for parent and child.
Captain’s Bed
Captain’s beds are great for any boy’s room or girl’s room. Captain’s beds come in all different materials, colors and styles, but they share one thing in common: lots of drawer space. These beds are a great storage solution, and a great space saver. The extra drawer space may eliminate the need for an additional dresser in your kids’ room. The less stuff in a room, including furniture, the more organized and neat it looks. You can use the drawers for clothes, school supplies, small toys, or anything else that fits. The additional benefit that these beds provide is that the drawers are at the perfect height for your kids to put away their own stuff. No excuses of being unable to reach the top dresser drawer.
Coat Cubbies
Coat cubbies are a great way to organize your kids’ room. The cubby spaces can be used to store many different things, including backpacks, school books, puzzles and shoes. Allow you child to decorate the cubby too. Purchase removable wall stickers, and let your child personalize the cubby.
Toy Boxes
Toy boxes have been a storage solution for parents for ages, and they should not be written off now! You can purchase or make a toy box that matches the decor of your kids’ room. Use the toy box for all of your kid’s trucks and trains or dolls and dress-up clothes. Toy boxes make clean up a cinch for your child. All they do is lift the lid, and toss in the toys. If you have last minute guests, toy boxes are also a great way for you to hide things away quickly.
Storage Bins
Storage bins come in all different shapes, sizes and colors. Storage bins will enable you to separate toys by type. Put all of the cars in one bin, and all of the Barbies in another. Label the bins so that your kids will be able to put the toys back in the proper bins.
Tables and Desks
Once your child is school age, or able to do artwork, you will find that you have a seemingly endless amount of paper, paints and other art supplies. A kid’s table or desk is the perfect solution. They give your children a place to do their schoolwork or artwork, and you can also purchase one that has storage. The table or desk may have storage bins beneath it, or the top may lift up to provide storage. Keep all of your kids’ crayons, markers and other supplies organized here.
The solution to an organized kids’ room is to make the organization simple and fun, so it sticks. Get your children involved in setting up the the system, and try to be crafty to enable your kids to personalize their space.
