Post-Party Clean Up: 3 Kitchen Cleaning Tips

Staff Writer · Mar 23, 2011

When a party’s over, you’re left with both great memories and a great mess; that’s where kitchen cleaning tips can come in handy. To minimize your time spent cleaning in the kitchen post-party, turn to the following suggestions:

1. Cover Surfaces with a Tablecloth

Tablecloths aren’t just for tables–at least if you’re following this list of kitchen cleaning tips. Cover as many surfaces as possible with disposable or washable tablecloths, and you’ll just have to remove the tablecloths once the party is done, which means no scrubbing or wiping countertops. With disposable paper tablecloths, you can even cut the tablecloth to fit small surfaces and corners. Don’t assume any surface won’t get crumbs or spills on it. You can’t control where your guests will go during the party.

2. Use Disposable Dishware

Consider using disposable dishware during the party. Cleanup is as simple as throwing all of the dishes away. If you don’t like having so much trash, use plastic dishware and recycle it when the party’s over.
3. Put a Rug (with Rug Pad) on the Floor

Although you may try to get your guests to stay out of the kitchen during the party, space in an apartment is limited and there’s bound to be someone who tracks dirt and debris onto your kitchen floor. One of most overlooked kitchen cleaning tips is to preemptively protect your floors. Put down an old or cheap rug to cover most of the kitchen floor. Because your kitchen floor may be slippery, use a rug pad underneath. After the party, you can simply take the rug outdoors, shake it free of crumbs, and store the rug away.
