Peaceful place to call home
Iāve had a wonderful experience living at Somerset Lakes. The community is peaceful, well maintained, and beautifully landscaped. The apartments are extremely spacious, and the location is incredibly convenient. The staff and maintenance team have always been friendly, responsive, and professional whenever Iāve needed anything. It truly feels like home, and I highly recommend Somerset Lakes to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to live.

Great apartment but, it unsecured.
Everything was good until some people came to stole my car February 23th at 10:25 pm. I think the management should install security cameras and security guards to secure the property. The office staff is very helpful, friendly and always ready to assist people.

We just signed our 12th lease agreement so that should speak for itself.
Somerset is a place you can call HOME not "my apartment". The office staff and the maintenance crew are always there to help solve any issues. We have been here for twelve years and don't plan on moving anytime soon.

Feels like home
Been here 1 year now and we are very happy. The community is very safe and feels like home. They have community events and keep the property clean and kept. I researched several places and decided on Somerset Lakes because I wanted to feel peaceful, comfortable, clean and safe and that is exactly what I have.

Good maintenance response.
I had a problem with drainage in my shower. Tom Appeared at my door shortly after I called in my request. He was courteous and got to work right away. I had to leave moments later and Tom reminded me that he had a key and could make sure the door was locked when he left. Good fast maintenance response. Thanks Tom.

My Honest Review!!
Gracie, Kurtis and Myra are awesome and helpful staff at the office. They are all so nice and prompt to respond to any issues that arise which is completely different from previous places I have rented from. However, some of the office staff like are not so friendly and professional. I have been to the office several times over the past years and I always come in to welcoming people who are dressed professionally and have great charisma. I did not get that from Char the most recent time I stopped by at the leasing office. I felt as if I was being rushed, my needs are not heard and understood and was in house shoes. She is FAR from personable and professional. As a small business owner, I would never go into the work- place with house shoes on, that reflects on your character as well as the business as a whole. I know not one bad situation should not cause for me to write a review but these things need to be addressed and remediated with corrective action so future long term residents such as myself have a positive experience. Having rude and unprofessional staff is the main reason why I dislike going in to the office now. Nonetheless, I have a 3 bedroom currently. The rooms are spacious, the closets are large and the view is superb. Whenever my partner and I place a maintenance request, the team is quick to come out and correct the issue as needed. The Maintenance team is awesome and always come in ready to fix any size issue. There is an older lady too on the maintenance team who is nice. The Lake, is awesome. My partner and I have caught several fish and kayaked several times. I wish there was more docks around the lake but it is great as is just a preference. Also wished that we could borrow the rows for the kayaks for hours outside of office hours. The Clubhouse is really nice to get some work done with a view if you ever need it. I have used it a few times and it is always calm. Lastly, the dog park is cute, just wish they refilled the station a bit more frequently. All in all, this is a great neighborhood! Parking is easy, if you don't like it just get a carport and use the guest parking as needed and we are in a convenient location. Not everyone in the office is nice but you live and you learn.

I was extremely unhappy due to the fact that my car got towed about 3 weeks ago in the middle of the night. I live in a two bedroom apartment, but was only given one parking space for two cars. I came home one Friday and ALL the visitor parking spaces were taken which is where I usually park the extra car. I had the option to pay an extra monthly fee for another parking space, but with the high cost of this apartment, I already felt like I was overpaying on rent so of course I did not opt for the extra parking space. Anyways, I went ahead and parked on the side of the street because I literally had nowhere else to park unless I were to illegally take someone else's parking space. My car got towed and I was told that cars are only towed by the request of the property.... So incredibly frustrating! I was late to work the next day and had to haggle with the towing company for extra 2 days, all of which would have never happened if Somerset Lakes didn't request for my car to be towed. This is just a way for Somerset Lakes to try to force me to buy a monthly carport for my extra vehicle which already is a ridiculous thing to have to do due to the lack of parking in a PRIVATE COMPLEX. This isn't Downtown Indy... I shouldn't have to be searching for 20 minutes for a parking space on the weekends. I wish to be reimbursed for this massive inconvenience, but based off other reviews I've seen here, it's doubtful that it'll happen and that I'll simply receive a "We apologize for the inconvenience" sort of response. I plan on posting on every source of information to ensure that people realize that the beautiful views and spacious homes are NOT worth the stress and tiring conversations over minor issues that Somerset Lakes won't assist with. For Somerset Lakes: If you wish to resolve this issue, please offer a reimbursement and I'll gladly reconsider my opinion of the complex/management. However, if you simply wish to respond and say "I'm so sorry for your experience" without any impactful action on your part, then you can keep your hollow words to yourself.

This place used to be good, until the last few years... I have noticed people filtering in here that definitely cannot afford to live in these apartments at the rate that I pay - not sure if Somerset has started some sort of a government assisted living program like HUD or something, but trashy people have definitely been filtering in here. I've seen a couple of Wal-Mart workers that live here also. I'm not saying this trying to be mean, but there's no way that someone working at Wal-Mart would be able to afford the full rent prices here. I can barely afford my 2 bedroom on my own with a full salary that I make. I have had 2 different neighbors move in and out that have been nothing but trash - smoking, leaving liquor bottles and cigarette butts laying around outside, their visitors constantly coming in and out at all hours of the day and late into the night. They also park so crooked that the person next to them wouldn't be able to park in their parking space. Something's definitely going on with Somerset - I've lived here a long time and never have seen the trash before that I now see living here in the past 2-3 years!

Community looks nice from the outside but for the amount of rent I pay, I shouldn't have to worry about not having hot water. I literally have been praying the hot water works each time I turn it on b/c you never know and in the winter the furnace doesn't heat the apt higher than 69 degrees. They should be focused on upgrading their water heaters and furnaces instead of just redoing the appearances of each apartment. Meanwhile, I'm freezing in my $1,000 plus apartment.

The customer service or should I say lack of customer service is astounding in there front office. I think they all need a course innit first and for most. Maintience issues take forever to be completed I went with a broken toliet in my apt for 2 weeks and they thought that was ok. As much as we pay here you would think they could move a little faster and be a little more polite and professional in the office. Instead when there is a mess up on there end they dodge phone calls and won't ever call you back which prolongs a problem that could've been taken care of in a 2min call. The office at Somerset lakes Apt's is the absolute worst.

My two-bedroom apartment has tons of space - the master bedroom is huge! And there's lots of storage space. This is a great location on two beautiful lakes where you can boat, kayak, and fish. Maintenance requests sometimes take a bit longer than they should, but that's really my only complaint.

This is a nice looking complex, but keep in mind there is insufficient parking for residents. In addition, in instituting their new parking policies, they did not clearly mark no parking areas and then had residents' vehicles towed in the middle of the night on a weekday, and refused to reimburse us for the cost. For as much as I am paying for these apartments, I should not have to deal with an apartment complex with no consideration for my livelihood and not enough places for a 2-car family to park. This was simply a ploy to force residents to purchase the "optional" carports at an extra monthly charge. Do not get lured by the cost of the rent; the add-ons may make another complex a much better option.

We moved in to Somerset lakes in July of 2016 after moving from Canada. We rented a 2 bed 2 bath and also rented a carport. Not sure why people complain about parking.. purchase a Carport. We just purchased a new car and are going to get a second carport. I believe the issue to be that renters use the free spaces instead of leaving them for guests.. to me that's cheap. You get one free space so if you have 2 cars purchase a carport. Our view is crazy.. Apts large. We have a separate dining room and laundry in the apt . Our Master is huge.. like massive. We have a king sized bed and I could fit another in. Along with 3 closets in that one room. We looked everywhere and these were by far the biggest and everyone gets a view. We will be moving out I'm April 2017 due to husband's work and relocating again. We have looked and looked in KY for a view like this and cannot find it! However.. we have spectacular neighbors. No loud people in our building. We could be the loudest sue to both my husband aND I having hearing problems haha. We have a dog.. our neighbor has a puppy. Can't say I hear much noise at all. And our apt is on a bend so we see nobody out by the lake. My one issue is.. Pick up your damn dog poop. I can't even walk my dog at night over by the designated area for dogs as recently someone has bee letting their dog poop right in the area where the frigging bags are and the bin.. then just leaving it.!!. It drives me insane.. if you have a dog like I do then pick up its poop!!! If I ever spot you I'm going to be giving you a talking to! So the Apts could do with having hardwood.. I dislike the kitchen. Cupboards are small.. and the cherry cabinets.. dark appliances and dark floor makes it a depressing room with no windows. It's the one thing I dislike. My next place will be high end kitchen... but alas no view. We have been happy living here.. it's beautiful to sit out on your patio at night and watch the lake.

We have lived at the Somerset Lake Apartments for 3 years now. The views are great and we boat on the lakes all summer long. Any staff or maintenance we have dealt with have been very friendly and quick to respond. We have lived in several apartment complexes and this is far and away the best we have lived.

My roommate and I moved in about 9 months ago. We have a year contract to live here. We are going to resign again for another year. This is the best place I have lived. I really like the valet trash service. These apartments are in a great location. So easy to get where ever I need to go. The office people are nice and always have fun events going on. Check this place out.

Been living at Somerset for a few years now. Maintenance is great, but I don't have to call them very often. When I call the office the people there answer the phone and handle whatever I need easily and quickly. What I like most about this place is how much green space there is and the lake. It's super peaceful and relaxing. I always tell my friends they have to move here. It's great.

Lived here a Somerset Lakes for 10 years. Rent prices were a little high for them to be dated with popcorn ceilings, older modeled bathrooms and kitchens but a reasonable price. Has a beautiful lake. Loved the staff (formally) managed by Mrs Kris Harding after years of service. Her staff made you feel right at home to the point I had decided I would NEVER leave. Senior living very quiet, friendly and comfortable. In the past last (3) years property was taken over by another company management. Updates on the grounds are spectacular (but) a lot of break-ins, one right across the hall from me. Prices have went to a all time high, forcing residents to move out. Never seen so many vacancies since I've been here. Starting to see a lot of young folks, possibly roomating to afford. I am unfortunately planning on leaving the home I once loved. Found property near by, no lake but nice and new with rent being $258. (less). Its been real but gotta go.....

Avoid this property at all cost. Price is e pensive due to the Alacart pricing: basic rent + hot water + water + trash + administrative fees + pest control + administration fees + sewer, etc. what is advertised at $1,298/month can end up costing $1,500/month. This property is one step up from a low income housing development. Don't be fooled by the units that are updated. They have used the cheapest materials - plastic countertops, pretend wood baseboards that shred at the smallest bump, etc. I rented a newly updated unit, which was dirty, window frame already cracked, cob webs everywhere, missing closet doors, serious ant problem, spiders and the occasional roach. The metal frames around the windows and doors were filthy. The storage unit was unsecure. The cable connections are only in one room and have to be strung from that point to any other room - it is a mess. Many apartments have been broken into, so this is not a safe property. The staff is worthless at solving problems or responding to needs. This is suppose to be a gated community. 90% of the time I have lived here the back gate has either been missing or not working. The exterior of each front door looks like a slum.

Upon moving into this community, I was immediately disappointed. My apartment was not clean, crumbs left in cabinets, cobwebs everywhere, it was disgusting. Not only was it dirty, the apartment is so extremely outdated. Maintenance is legitimately here once every 2 weeks for various issues we've had, pipe busting in the kitchen (flooding my floor), washer and dryer not working (that I pay $75/month for), bathtub drain not draining, no cold water and at times no hot water, and most recently, black crud coming out of my faucets. Frozen pipes are also an issue, despite leaving the water dripping. I have had a variety of insect problems from huge spiders to crickets. My neighbor above me is INSANELY loud. I can constantly here him stomping around and hear others going up the stairs (to the point where my pictures on the walls are crooked). I would not recommend this community to anyone. It has been nothing but a giant headache.

I live at Somerset lakes and I am in my 50's However I am mistaken for 25-30 yrs old on a daily basis. I understand the frustration the original responder writes about because I too have experienced being overly monitored and accused of things when I wasn't even at home. I have a neighbor who called the office and complained because I was drying a load of laundry at 2pm in the afternoon. I have been accused of having a pet when I absolutely did not have one and the reason I don't have one (even though my daughter studies veterinary med and I would love to have a dog) is because when a friend came over to visit and brought his dog my neighbor complained and I was told by the office manager to go out behind my apt and "PICK UP EVERY PIECE OF DOG FECES THERE!!" Her words verbatim. She followed this with a threat saying that if she sent maintenance out and they saw one dropping I would be evicted. Keep in mind that at the time I didn't own a pet but my neighbors one building over owned not one but 2 dogs. plus it was summertime and the lake is over run with geese who leave droppings everywhere out back. She was extremely rude and her demand was unnecessarily excessive. For her to demand that I go out back and pick up every piece of animal feces there was borderline insane!! I contemplated contacting the Civil Rights Union because she monitored and harassed me so much that I felt she was singling me out because of my race. As I said I currently live at somerset lakes and it is a great location. But considering the fact that I feel harassed and singled out by management and every year they raise my rent an extreme amount more than any of my neighbors. I know this because I've asked friends of mine who also live here. But don't seem to suffer the same harassment. I will not be resigning my lease!! I refuse to continue to feel like I am under constant surveillance in my own home!! Not to mention the fact that my apt is old!! Everything in it with exception to the dishwasher which they had to replace because it was so old no one made parts for in anymore. I refuse to continue to live like this. I would definitely not recommend somerset lakes to anyone!! Your office manager is horrible and mean!!! I am not writing anonymously because I want to know how you intend to rectify this situation!! You have the power and resources to turn these experiences around!! Yet you continue to respond by basically saying thanks for the heads up but you complained anonymously so sorry can't help ya.. is a load of BS!! You continue to allow your office manager who is mean and uncaring to manage you property with her ------ mentality!! This is unexceptable!!!

Somerset Lakes was my very first apartment. I was a recent college grad when I moved in and was really excited to live on my own for the first time. Unfortunately, Somerset isn't a place I ever felt at home. I lived there for one year and our neighbors couldn't have been more unfriendly. I was gone most weekends and received written noise complaints when I wasn't even there. This apartment complex is not somewhere any young person would want to live and the management staff makes that very clear based on the way they treat anyone under the age of 50. The location is good, but if you're looking for an enjoyable place to live, I would not choose Somerset. It's hard to feel comfortable in a place where the management staff is constantly watching you and questioning your every move. When I am gone every day from 8-5, I expect to be able to come home and relax and I did not find that peace and quiet at Somerset. Instead, people are rude, the staff is a nightmare, and despite the location this place isn't worth your time. Try somewhere in Broadripple!

If you're under the age of 65, this apartment complex is not for you. Young adults are treated like children, constantly monitored and not taken seriously. I've lived in several apartment complexes in the midwest, and Somerset Lakes was a disappointment. It's a shame because the area is good. It's close to Carmel, close to Broad Ripple, and there are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. The management staff is the worst I've dealt with. They are unprofessional--they reveal confidential information; tape gaudy stickers to vehicles parked on curbs and in incorrect spaces (parking is a nightmare--one lettered space per building, no matter how many residents). The neighbors are overbearing and nosey. One older woman in particular. I'm not going to provide names here, but she is an unattractive, tall woman with grey, curly hair. She has resided at Somerset for 18 years and enters buildings that are not her own, throws objects at residents, and puts lawn chairs in car ports when someone parks there incorrectly. Not to mention she is close friends with the apartment manager. When I lived there, I received countless complaints (for noise complaints when I wasn't there, for pets I didn't own, for creating an environmental hazard by placing my trash outside my door (they provided a trash service and we were instructed to do this at move-in)). This apartment complex was not for me, and if you want a private place to live, where you can go to work each day, and are treated with respect, Somerset Lakes is not for you, either.

Overall I liked living here. I was there for 2 years with my boyfriend and 2 pets. Here are the pro's and con's Big apartments, our 1 bedroom den was like 1100 sq feet VERY SAFE, I never felt like there was anything sketchy going on, the neighborhood has a lot of older adults in it, which I like. Not a lot of families and not a lot of young loud people. Great View, Location location location. You can't beat it. You are just south of all the silly Castleton traffic so it does not affect you. They were fair with our security deposit. We adopted a rescue half way through the lease (first time dog owners) and our dog peed all over. They were very forgiving though. -Parking is sometimes scarce. -Lots of bugs, we killed a spider about every other day, but this happens with lake front apartments. The balconies which are super nice were not usable because of all the bugs that take it over, but I kind of liked that because no one else used it and was outside making noise, so this could be a pro. -The construction is cheap. So you could totally hear your neighbors if they are loud. But ours were like church mice. Retired people on all sides. Most the neighborhood is laid back, but I could see a possible noise problem. Overall this is the best place I have lived in Indianapolis. I didn't renew so I could rent a house in braod ripple, which was not my scene. I even went back to look at my old apartment, but ended up not re-leasing because I am likely to relocate for my job. Overall I had a great time at somerset. The pro's outweighed the con's. I would also suggest not renting the washer and dryer, we did but the washer and dryer was just right outside our apartment and no one ever used it. There is one washer and dryer shared between just 4 units, and everyone else had one in their unit. So I would recommend using the public one.
