I like the current staff and it's close to wal Martin, the park and the square, which is nice. Also it has a decent pool and it's not too expensive

Great place to live! I moved here to be closer to campus. I enjoyed living here so much, I'm still here even after graduating. The location is great, close to downtown. The manager is amazing, she's the best one we've ever had here! All around great place!

Markwood is a nice place to live --close to many things --MSU, downtown, Bass Pro, Fassnight Park, Parkview High School, and much more. It's on bus route 7 that goes down South Campbell to Library Center, and it's just a block from a Neighborhood Market and a gas station/convenience store. It's pet friendly, and is one of the best values for your money you will find.

I have been living here for about three months now and I am both pleased and also mad enough to raise hell. First of all, when I called here to get a place, I asked to be on the ground floor because I had been living in an apartment that was upstairs before and I didn't really like it. The manager told me that was fine and that they could do that. So, my girlfriend and I came up to Springfield for a showing. The manager showed me a nice one bedroom apartment on the ground floor and told me that if I moved in that would be the one I would be in. However, the day that I moved in, I sat in the office and signed all of the papers and she suggested we should go try the keys. She took me in a different door and up three flights of stairs to get to my new apartment. I should have complained right then and I should have at least asked questions, but I assumed that I was the one who made a mistake. So, three or four hours later we had all of the stuff up the stairs, which was no small task, let me tell you. About a week later, I went to do my laundry. I had went to Walmart and gotten quarters and I went down to the laundry room and washed my clothes and then when I went to dry them, they came out more wet than they were when I got them from the washer! I spent fifteen dollars and over three hours trying to do my laundry and when I returned to my apartment, all I had were soaking wet clothes that I had to hang up in the shower. Needless to say, I now use the Laundromat. When I first got here I had a little dog but she was too much work because she had major separation anxiety so I gave her to another family where she would have someone around all the time. I was making payments on the pet deposit at the time. So, when I called about that, they said it didn't matter if I didn't have an animal or not because once I started paying for the deposit, they couldn't take it off. "Get a cat" the lady said. I told her about getting moved into the wrong apartment and she said nothing. I told her about how the laundry room stuff doesn't even work and about how much money I spent and she told me that I should call the company who services the washers and dryers and they would give me my money back and she said I should tell them they need to come service the washers and dryers. Not only is that not my job, but it is HER JOB. If you are managing something, it is YOUR JOB to manage the buildings and everything that goes with them. I am a paying customer. It should never be the responsibility of a paying customer to have to call a company to come service something for the building. Be a manager and TAKE CARE OF YOUR BUILDING. DO YOUR JOB!!!! So, I got a happy gram yesterday stating that I owed money for the rent, which first of all, no I don't because I paid it about a week in advance. They were sending me a letter about the pet deposit. Instead of making a letter for that or instead of writing on the letter what it was about, they just said it was rent. They are trying to charge me late fees, but when I paid the rent I put in a separate check for the pet deposit and they never cashed it. But now they are trying to charge me late fees. Overall, I like living here. It is quiet here and its like living in my own little world for the most part. I hardly ever see another person and I like it that way. The biggest problem I have with this place is its misrepresentation of services and the fact that it seems to have absolutely no management, whatsoever. I could manage this place way better than the person or people who are trying and failing to do it. When my lease is up, I am moving out and even better than that, I will never rent from the Wooten Company again.

This apartment complex is centrally located and affordable. Perfect for those students, who like myself, have a min. wage or slightly better paying job. Recent change is management has made the world of difference. The new manager, Larry, has been a tremendous help and has really been making a lot of changes. Apartments are being remodeled, the exterior is going to be re-done and the parking lot is going to be improved. If it were not for needing a bigger place I would have stayed. There are some bad reviews out there, but believe me when I say that all of those problems are being addressed. Management is not only excited about the changes, but he is really pushing them along. You're about to start seeing four and five star reviews for this complex.

Markwood Apartments
I have lived in this apartment complex for many years and have seen numerous improvements in the landscape, foyers that have recently been painted, and apartments that have been updated. I am a single female who is not afraid to live here. I could afford to live elsewhere, but I am very happy living here. The manager is on top of it and always willing to help. Markwood has become a fantastic community.

A TRUTHFUL REVIEW
I am sorry but the lies that are being spewed about Markwood on this site are very concerning. I can NOT under any circumstances believe that a person would want to live here. There are MAJOR mold issues in all of the units., flooding issues in the bottom floor units and bug infestations. I lived here for almost 2 years and it was awful. Wooten didn't care about anyone, they never have and never will. EVERYONE i know that has rented from them runs as fast as they can. I woke several times to my car broken into. Bums in the trash and drug deals being done on the premises. There were times if I didn't come home with someone that I was scared to walk into the corridor. Their drive by security is just that- a fast drive by. And don't call them for anything because they don't care. The noise is horrible and its dirty all the time. I am tired of getting alerts stating this place is good. You have got to be kidding me. I watched many people flee from this place and it was the best day in your life. All I know is its a sad day when you have a party to celebrate getting out. DON'T DO IT!!!!

I recommend...
This is my second year with markwood apartments and i love it. Markwoods has a great location, not even a mile away from MSU and just down the road from grocery stores and anything else you might need. It has a nice pool and the apartments are well kept and nicely upgraded. Staff is friendly. I recommend Markwoods to anybody who needs a nice affordable and safe environment to live.

Great for the price!
Earlier reviews made us wary of this complex but we haven't had a bad experience yet. Larry, the manager, is always friendly and helpful. Our one maintenance request was taken care of very quickly and we have not had a problem since. We love how close we are to campus and feel we lucked out with getting a great apartment for a great price.

Improvements Are Making Markwood Better!
When I first moved to Markwood in 2010, I had read terrible reviews from this site and others about Markwood. However, due to its location and its cost, we moved in anyway. We are moving now after living here and raising a child for two years, and I can say it has been worth every penny. Markwood is an older building, but the rooms are reasonable for the price. Our first year we had difficulty with keeping a manager, but in the last few months we have had a stellar manager, Larry. He has stepped up and done amazing things, being responsible and prompt in his help. The maintenance man J.J. has been quick and always willing to help. The population of Markwood has been very eclectic - undergrads, graduate students, adults out of school, young families, older adults - and it feels positive in nature. Our neighbors are usually very respectful of the evening hours. The pool makes for a nice place to relax during the summer months. The location (about a mile from Missouri State) made it easy to bike to campus. It is close enough to walk if necessary, yet far enough from campus to keep it from being a "Party" complex. The only complaint I have is the parking lot. It is older and in need of repair and repainting. However, with Larry as manager, it will soon be fixed! In closing, my recommendation is this: If you are looking for the picture-perfect complex with a giant pool and room side parking (and exorbitant pricing!), you should look somewhere else. If you are looking for a reasonable, comfortable, and AFFORDABLE housing experience, then consider Markwood! If I had to do it again, I would!

Awesome Apartment Experience
Staying at the Markwood apartments has been an enjoyable experience for me, because of the friendly neighbors, very welcoming resident manager, and location of the apartment complex in relation to school and work. Most people on the property introduce themselves to new faces and help when asked whether it be moving furniture or getting a ride to school. The resident manager, Larry, tries to make himself available to tend to any issues that may arise as swiftly and as efficiently as possible, he also tries to make life more comfortable and peaceful for all residents by sending around newsletters inquiring about any possible improvements residents would like to see and asking about any complaints so he can get them resolved. The apartments are just a couple miles from OTC and maybe a mile and a half from MSU, which makes getting to school easy. There is a bus stop within a 100 feet of the property making travel more convenient.

Not the worst
I've lived at Markwood for 2 years now, and while it isn't necessarily ideal, it's not really as bad as everyone says either. The new apartment manager is really helpful, and is definitely making improvements to the buildings. I heard second hand that he's lived here for a while, so he'll probably stick around for some time? Hopefully. There is a problem with manager turnover at Markwood, which can be quite frustrating. When we first moved in, we had a serious cockroach problem. We basically had to take care of that ourselves, because we had a new manager every month it seemed for the first 6 months we lived there. However, once we started getting managers who lasted more than a few weeks, they were more than willing to take care of the problem for us. We've been roach free for quite a while now. As for maintenance - the only issue I have with them is that they can't fix our screen door. But they can't fix anyone's screen door. Evidently they're so old that they'd have to replace the entire sliding door. Other than that, they've always fixed anything that we asked them to come fix in a timely fashion. One night there was a leak coming through the ceiling in the bathroom from the apartment above me. I called the emergency maintenance number after discovering that no one was home upstairs, and the maintenance guy was there within 15 minutes. I can't necessarily say I'll miss Markwood a whole lot, but I think in the end, it was worth the money I saved.
