I ve lived in Markwood Apartments for two years now & just signed another lease. The neighbors are friendly and the manager, Larry, is great. He just got me a new Frigidaire dishwasher and a brand new countertop that gives me twice the counter space! Maintenance shows up quickly & does a good job. The part I like best is that MO State University is only a three minute drive away. The city bus stop is across the street & the orange MSU shuttle bus stop is four blocks away. I like living at Markwood Apartments. I believe it should be called Markwood Village because it is a friendly place to live.

Truely Hell on earth.
Markwood is the worst. Please DO NOT live. The tires have been stolen from my car, TWICE! Nobody cared. The manager is constantly changing, and they are rude. When I do find one I like, because they are actually nice and do their job, they are fired or run fast from wooten. The place is a dump and nobody fixes anything. Some people just let their dogs pee and poop in the stairwells. I hate everday I come home and look at what I live in. I am counting down the days until my lease is up! Also, I have read the other reviews on here and they sound very familiar and accurate. The price and location is not worth it. STAY AWAY! You'll be glad you did.

Okay for the price
At the time I was looking this was one of the cheapest single-level 2bd apartments I could find. Started out at $417/mo and after one year I went to a month-to-month lease for $457/mo. Pretty sure the manager(s) - there's been a few - knew I had two dogs even though you're only allowed one. However, since we were good tenants and never got complaints I guess they figured they'd turn a blind eye, so that was nice. Also, the laundry room is nice and big (4 washers and dryers). The apartment itself was pretty nasty - old carpet, poor insulation, cr@ppy windows... the vinyl flooring in the bathroom was peeling and stained and the caulking was black and gross. The dishwasher was old and useless. Hot water only lasted 3 minutes during the winter months (take a quick shower)! The main reason we stayed for so long (about 2.5 years) was the price, the fact that we were on a month-to-month lease, the fact that if we wanted to move we would have to pay a ton of pet fees at a new place, and the fact that the two units next to us were vacant so it was nice and quiet. If you move here, you'll live - just don't have high expectations.

Give this a miss!
Don't even consider Markwood as a place to live in. I'm telling you, DO NOT! The carpets are crappy and stained. The bathroom is horrible and there's mildew everywhere! There were 7 car break-ins couple months ago. Oh and your car is bound to get dinged or scratched cause the folks there don't give a damn when they open their car doors. (*Especially the red Ford truck). The place is shoddy. People taking drugs and stuff. The manager is nice. But there's not much she can do to change the crappy place. My boyfriend and I are leaving cause I've had my jeans and underwear stolen from the laundry twice. There's a mad lady that keeps yelling all the time and lets her dogs run wild. I had poop near my car the other day. And there are couple of cats running around the property as well. The parking lot has plenty of pot holes. Get ready to get a new set of tires. It's loud at times and there's no point calling security. So if you intend to have a restful night.. forget it. My boyfriend and I are out of here. Not turning back. Only regrets is.. that we should have left earlier.

Renting NIGHTMARE!
Mine is a very long story, but suffice it to say that I broke my lease after two months and got the hell out of there. My "freshly cleaned" apartment smelled like animal urine and was infested with fleas, mice, and cave crickets. I have photos of the flea bites all over my feet and legs. I never felt safe in that neighborhood and the manager was hard to get hold of even when I was first trying to visit the apartment and move in. Moving out was another nightmare. I had to deal with Tina Moorehead in charge of Wooten Co. I was on the phone with her for over an hour talking in circles trying to explain to her that the apartment was not suitable for living in. She went so far as to insinuate that I brought the fleas in with me when I moved in. Just thinking about the conversation again infuriates me. I ended up getting out of the lease by paying the fee for them to repaint (I painted 2 rooms before I moved in) and paying back half the first month's rent which I got free by signing a 12-month lease. DO NOT RENT AT MARKWOOD. Avoid Wooten Co. altogether if you can help it. I now rent from Haselhorst Properties to be near MSU campus and they are wonderful landlords and have some very nice clean properties. PS- I tried to upload photos but the site keeps timing out. I want you to see them though, so you can view images of the flea bites and gross bugs on my photobucket: http://s241.photobucket.com/albums/ff99/KayceeJohnson05/Markwood/

Hate It
I lived at Markwood for a year now. I first rented here because of the location, which isn't great but better than being closer to down town. We have had 4 managers in less than a year and the place is just a dump. I don't feel safe here anymore. I hate that I twisted my ankle in the severely cracked sidewalks and parking lots every other day. The old maintenence man came up and I found him looking through my bathroom stuff, it was weird. We have a new one but I just don't trust him. I feel like I am getting sick from the moldy smell in the hall ways, and the "cleaners" that we have to do them never really get them clean. Its' embrassing to have anyone over. theres a lady that yells all day outside her apartment and people dig through the trash. I try to talk to the office people but it's hard to catch anyone in there. And they act like you are annoying them if you ask them to care. It really sucks. I'm a young person but that doesn't mean I don't want a nice place. I got a notice to renew and I have to say OH NO I won't be doing that.

RUN don't walk!! NOT SAFE
I have lived at Markwood for awhile now. I am running as fast as I can out of here. I thought we were on the way to some major changes but I was wrong. We have YET again got a new Manager, when and if she's ever in the office. Our grounds look horrible and no one seems to care. I walk across needles and trash everywhere daily. The Parking lot is so cracked that you could trip in the pot holes and be lost for days. I have noticed that the people that are around now are not the same decent people we had. I came home late the other night to find a drunken group of people sitting in the court yard smoking and yelling. It was 1 am. I don't feel safe here and our so called security never does anything more than drive through the parking lot at 30 miles an hour. I have come home to strange activity and really just can't wait to get out of here. Also there is dog poop everywhere even on the sidewalks. The dogs aren't on leashes and I thought was apart of our lease. We also have a rude maintenance man and the one before that sexually harassed me to the point I didn't want him in my home. Also I put in a work order months ago and nothing has been done about it. I guess the wrench on my bathroom faucet is fine as long as it still works. The odor from the down stairs apartments is awful as well. The flood and leak and they do nothing about it. I'd also like to add that AGAIN second time in less than two months we are getting a new manager. It's hard to find confidence in a company that can't seem to keep their employees for whatever reason. I still have not had any of my maintenance issues resolved, I am going down AGAIN tomorrow and reporting it again and maybe if her boyfriend isn't in the office or she's not playing on the computer, she may actually do her job. I can only imagine what joy we have in-store for us with our new "professional" manager. I'm sorry but I don't have high hope. I came home again to drunk crazies in the parking lot, yelling and screaming and hollering cat calls at me. I hate it here and I cannot wait to move. this is THE worst place I have ever lived and I will not shed a tear when I go. I just started looking around town for other deals and trust me, for the price you pay here IT'S NOT WORTH IT. I found a great duplex for 450 it has washer dryer hook up and is in a great neighborhood. So don't think you can't find a better deal, there is one.

Loving it!
I moved into Markwood last summer. I have to admit that when I first looked at it I wasn't really thinking that it could be the place for me. I met with the manager several times and spoke with her about my concerns. She had great responses to my worries. She was professional and very nice. I decided to try. I have to say I do honestly love it here. The maintenance man is awesome and always has a smile for you. They seem to be trying to fix up the place even more and it's nice to see that happening. I renewed my leased for another year. I think that Markwood was a great choice for me.

Home...and I do mean HOME
I have lived at markwood for over a year now. I have to say that Markwood just feels like home. No...they aren't new...no they aren't fancy but what markwood has is a true sense of community. The manager is always friendly and she always stops to say hello to you and ask about your day. She asks if you have problems and i never feel bad about coming in to see her about any issues that may come up. The residents are awesome. They care about each other and they keep an eye out on the property which is nice. It's a good feeling to know that someone cares like I do. I live in a one bedroom and will be transferring to a two when my baby is born. there was never a thought about moving away from Markwood. it's just home...and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to live!!!

My new home!
I never thought that I could have this much fun living in an apartment as I do here at Markwood! It is very homey and welcoming. The residence here are very friendly and welcoming. The apartments have been fixed up for what they are.. They are older apartments, but they have been fixed up, and maintained very well. The staff at Markwood is amazing. The manager, Jennifer, is very knowledgable and very helpful She is willing to help out whenever she can. The maintince is also on top of everything. If you have a problem, they are right on it and are available 24/7. Overall, I have enjoyed my stay at Markwood, and am very glad that I chose to live here!

Do NOT Live Here
The apartments are old and things were broken when I moved in (fridge, rotten front door, partially rotten kitchen cabinets, peeling paint). My unit was also missing a screen door that I was told would be fixed but was still missing after I'd been there almost a year. My roof was damaged after the January ice storms, started leaking and was STILL not fixed when I broke my lease at the end of March. The "on-site" manager moved to another property and was replaced by a series of temps that were in the office from 10am to noon. Sometimes they could not even manage these two hours. Having school and work, I was never able to actually talk with a manager. There is one maintenance man for the whole complex, the parking lots are a joke and the pool is basically a chlorinated puddle. There is no insulation, the breeze coming through the ancient windows would move my curtains. There are FOUR washers/dryers for four buildings sometimes they wouldn't even work. The neighborhood isn't that great either, especially if you have children. I had nothing but problems since I moved in until I left so save yourself the hassle. The Wooten Company in general (for most of my issues with the roof I dealt with the corporate office because there was never a manager available) does not care about its tenants, only the bottom-line. The apartments are cheap but you get what you pay for: junk.
