needs help

I am a current resident, and the ant problem is true. After calling the office about five times someone come out and sprayed my place, and since then I haven't had any problems. Most of the apartments smell like smoke, because they don't bother to clean any other a/c vents etc. Maintenance is a joke enless something is absolutly BROKEN they won't fix it. Some of the office staff is friendly some is not, all are friendly when you are looking at apartments, but after that they don't care about you. The front gate is just for show it never closes, and my car has been vandalized three times. Keyed, egged, and broken into, and I don't know anyone in Corpus I just moved here. The prices aren't bad there is no such thing are a nice affordable apartment in Corpus.

    ANT PROBLEM

I live here at walnut ridge and i hate it here. We have been living here since the summer time, and since then, we have had the worst ant problem ever, and like they always say, someone will be there to spray. . . yeah right. THEY SUCK! I'm moving out ASAP. NOT A "HOME" TO LIVE IN.

The Shining Gem of The Corpus Christi Area

Let me guide you threw you a little tale I like to call the "Walnut Ridge experience." I was new to the Corpus Christi area and everyone recommended Walnut Ridge to me as a place to stay. I will not lie, driving up it looked like a South Texas paradise. The Palm Tree's, The Breeze, the Warm welcome of a potential Tenant. It was wonderful....Then you move in. The first month, the Air Condition went out, took 3 days for maintainence to come up the stairs and tell me that the A/C was broken. And let me tell you how they fixed it. Once they managed to finally fix the A/C the flow was not the same. The master bedroom was about 60 degrees, and the spare bedroom was 83 degrees. The maintainence people remedied this situation by placing a piece of cardboard in my vent and then told me..."If It gets to hot...poke holes!" Let's not mention the fact that the once the lease was signed the Management, partictualy Joey and her goon James, totally disregard you as a person, and only as a problem. If you ever get lonely, don't worry, you have your wildlife friends to help you company. In the kitchen and living room, there are hordes of ant's waiting to jump on anything with food. The roaches then provide back up to the swarming armies of ants. And last but not least. Is anyone familiar with World War II? The same people that made our Sherman Tanks for the war, also made our Air Conditions, and guess what, there still there from 1942. They make more noise than air, and provide you with a very expensive bill, ex. $320.00. All in all, if Walnut Ridge spent as much as they do on there decorative signs out front inviting poor saps in, we might get some new A/C's, possibly Security Camera's that don't stare at the sun, and maybe send there Maintenance people to technical schools!

        lots of ANTS and hot!

I dont live at walnut ridge, nor do I want to. However my boyfriend has lived there for almost 8 months and i am a frequent visitor. My boyfriend and his roommates live in a three bedroom, two bath and my boyfriends bedroom is ALWAYS hot. The rest of the house will be cool except for his room. The door will be open, fan will be on...and still it never really seems to cool down. The master bedroom on the other side of the apartment is always very cool. It is almost like the AC is favoring one of the rooms. The AC has broken down once, but it was fixed in the same day. The bathrooms are crap. The tiles on the wall of the tub/shower are barely hanging on to the caulk. Mildew forms very quickly in between the tiles. Kitchen is very small, but it is an apartment with cheap rent...what do you expect. The water from the faucet is not good to drink. The taste is disgusting. My BIGGEST problem with walnut ridge are the sugar ants. They are EVERYWHERE. I am not exaggerating one bit. You cant even set a glass of water down for more than 5 minutes without the ants getting into it. Dont even think about a soda. They are not just in the kitchen though. The kitchen, bathrooms, living room, and ALL bedrooms have the same problem. We have set out traps which help a little bit and have bombed the apartment a couple of times. As far as the office staff goes I have only had one interaction with them. I lost some keys. I went to the office, described the keys and keychains in detail. They said that they had definitely found them, but they couldnt remember where they put them. Needless to say I never saw those keys again. Other than that, my boyfriend and his roommates say that the office staff are a bunch of b------. We are getting married now and I didnt even want to consider living there an option despite the cheap rent. Try The Summit. Thats where we are now.

          Make this your last choice

First things first, the managers at the front office are total b******. every time I call to ask a question or request to fix something, they would treat me with the utmost disrespect. Speaking of repairs, the a/c breaks every 3 weeks, guarenteed, and somehow my bill comes out two $200 a month for a one bedroom. Ridiculous!!! The tiles in the shower are poorly caulked and they fall off sometimes. The balconies are small and have 1 bolt holding the railing in the wall thats half-way screwed in. There is an infestation of roaches. The pools are disgusting and never cleaned. The grass and shrubs are well taken care of. The maintenence men were cool. The parking lot is well painted but has quite a few pot holes. But once again, the worst thing was the managers, no manners!!! I mean, I'm paying to stay in their place and they are total dill holes. I would give the staff no stars but I can't so they get one.

THESE REVIEWS ARE TRUE THINK TWICE BEFORE AGREEING

I had read some of these reviews on how not to move into this place and Figured something small happened and tenents are just a little bitter. BOY WAS I WRONG!!! believe these reviews they are true. Me and my room mate moved in a year ago cuz that was our lease agreement. We figure we were basicaly going to sleep and bathe here with our long hour jobs. So it was a reasonable place to live at. Well what you pay for is what you get. Our apt was infested with insects. especially ants and magnets coming from the sink.... and that's because we never had food to cook we always went out to eat. I do give credit to the maintienance dept on a timely manner to spray when we asked yet sometimes we would think they are spraying sugar the problem would get worse. In the summer our AC went out on a saturday when we had guests, we call the front desk and they told us it was after hours we would have to wait until morning, OK CUZ ITS STINKIN HOT!!! We demanded that someone come to fix the AC. well a maintienance guy came to try to fix it. He couldn't so he offered a ac window unit until the morning to go get the parts to fix it. WE thought ok thats nice so we aggreed. He brought a small window unit tried to put it in the living room window. Mind that the windows are big and a small unit so there was lots of open space on each side. so THE MORON wanted to put CARDBOARD on each side so the cool air would not escape outside. HELLLOOO people live in front on the tennis court someone can easly push the cardboard and come in to steal everything. That was VERY EMBARASSING IN FRONT OF OUR GUESTS!!! The tennis court light never turned off on time at night so we always has lights beaming inside our rooms. So we had to be ------ and put foil and cardboard on the windows so the lights would deam in so much. I could go on for days on why you should invest anyones money on this place. SORRY for the next tenent that lives at WALNUT RIDGE APT.

never judge a book by it's cover!

the place looks alright from the outside, but once you get in there, it's horrible. the place has hella insects! i didn't need them to provide me with friends, i can make them on my own! since the moment i moved in there have been ants! my a/c must've broke at least 4-5 times and they would take days to fix it! talk bout a high electric bill! and then there was my bathroom ceiling. it started off leaking and they didn't even believe us until we recorded it. then it started falling off! i left there with mold on my walls and a half ceiling. and the bath tub, it was painted over instead of cleaned. stay away if you can! i've had the worst living experience here!

                Horrible

I was at this apartment for a year and it was horrible... every night I would go to bed wondering if someone was going to break in .. Not only that but the traffic, noise and bugs are horrendous!! There are three clubs right across the street and I promise there is heavy traffic and noise at two a.m. , ecspecially on a Wednesday. The gates jam and the entry code box frequently breaks down leaving piled up traffic at 2-3 a.m... NO SECURITY AT ALL...There were soooo many bugs it was disgusting. Also there was MOLD on my ceiling that they just SPRAY PAINTED over!! My car was broken into, there are cops everywhere looking for drug dealers, along with homless people. I am not lying . Do NOT rent here. And to top it off, When I left the woman who claimed she took pictures of my apartment did so before I had to leave and RANSACKED my apartment, stealing my coats!! She claimed I had Already moved out!! This was the WORST experience ever.

Ok if you can tolerate the ant/roach infestation

Walnut Ridge looks nice when you first come to visit. Nice paint and decorations in the lobby and the model apartment. I am a clean person. I dont leave dishes around, I clean up after myself, etc. However, I have had a HUGE HUGE problem with roaches that started about 2 weeks after I moved in. I had pest control out every week, but still it got so bad I ended up having to throw away half of my small appliances, as I found egg packets in my toaster, and coffee maker. GROSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I now keep my appliances (new) in the refridgerator. Yes, in the refridgerator. Along with any open boxes of ANY kind of food (cereal, crackers, flour, anything) I have also had a constant problem with ghost ants. They come and they go as they please (to the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, whereever). The roaches ended up in my car. I put the trash on the passenger side floor to drive it to the dumpster, and now I have an infestation in my car that I dont know how to get rid of. AGH!!! Other than that, its not a bad place to live. Its fairly quiet, it looks alright. But the bugs are worth staying away from. Trust me.

                    DON'T even think about it...

When you drive into Walnut Ridge, the firs thing you'll probably notice are the gates. Don't let them fool you: THEY DON'T WORK. On the rare occasions that the entry gate DOES close, it often malfunctions and is unable to open, causing traffic to be rerouted and drivers to use one of the exit gates as an entry. They list themselves as being a gated community...and, sure, the gates are there, but the only ones that ever work are the exit gates. So anyone can get IN, but you have to sit and wait to get OUT? How ironic... On the issue of safety...there is none, at Walnut Ridge. The front office will tell you that they have courtesy officers on-site, and it's true that they DO have an officer that lives in the complex, but I've lived there for almost a year and have yet to see him; all I've ever seen is his car. I've had my tires slashed, car keyed up and a lot of other damage done to my vehicle since I've resided in this hell-hole. Upon informing the office, I was told that the so-called "security cameras" that they supposedly "installed just for the residents" (HA!) operate and are linked to a closed-circuit television channel...but do not record. So unless you want to sit in your apartment all day and night watching nothing but that closed-circuit channel to make sure your car is doing alright out in the parking lot...the cameras are useless. The maintenance workers are mostly shady characters who I've heard have a tendency to snoop through drawers and closets...and they are also allowed to enter your apartment without your consent, as is pest control. If you STILL insist on living at Walnut Ridge, definitely have them show you the unit you will be living in BEFORE YOU SIGN ANYTHING. I was promised a downstairs apartment in a "better" section of the complex and ended up in one of the worst areas possible in an upstairs unit. The building and the apartment, itself, looked completely different than the model they show when you inquire about the property; they are run-down, with chipping paint, rust and in some areas, even foul-smelling. Prepare yourself for roommates, even if you don't want them. And by roommates I mean pests. The worst are the cockroaches...babies are everywhere and, if you're lucky, you'll catch a few large ones roaming around, as well. Pest control has come to my unit weekly, since I moved in, and I STILL have a pest problem. The A/C will give you problems almost monthly, if not, more often... Don't bother with the staff at the front desk. Katrina has more attitude than any one person ever should and the rest of them couldn't care less what's going on as long as they get your money every month. I cannot wait to get out of this place...if I had the extra money, I'd have broken my lease LONG ago.

i only lived here for 4 months. in those 4 months i had pest control come spray my apartment over 12 times, never solving the problem. it ended up making me sick everytime i was in my apartment from to much chemicals. i was calling the office and trying to get them to fix the problem. since i was a young college student they didn't treat me with any respect and told me it was because i didn't keep my house clean enough (ok i am a clean freak, no dirty dishes, no trash, no food what would they be coming for?)after getting sick my doctor told me to get out of the apartment and so i sent a copy of the doctors note and copy of my lease saying that they weren't keeping their end of the lease(to make sure that everything is in good living conditions) and my 30 day notice. i moved out 2 days later! 3 months after that i had credit collects calling me saying that i abonded my apartment and that i had to pay them over 2,000 dollars for it. they said that i never let them no of a problem and that i never told them i was moving out which wasn't true. i decided not to fight it because it would have costed me more money to try to get that 2,000 back

DONT LIVE THERE ITS DIRTY AND THE MANAGMENT IS HORRIBLE!!

                        Worst place ever

We moved out of here as soon as we could. Cockroaches were everywhere. We even had this place sprayed a few times and they still were around. There were baby roaches too, which indicated a very serious problem. The people living above us flooded their bathroom and the dirty water leaked into our apartment. It was disgusting. The floorplan was also ridiculous. It was a three bedroom, but one of the rooms, the "sunroom", looked like they had tacked on a wall to create a room so they could charge more for rent. it made the livingroom into an odd shape are there was nowhere to put a TV and couch that didn't block at least one door. There are also many residents who like to play their bass really loud in their cars while driving to their parking spot and someone else's car alarm would inevitably go off. Whenever the neighbors upstains would walk across their living room, it sounded like a herd of elephants was migrating across the plains. Having tennis courts was nice, but they were not maintained very well. We also had a possum living on our patio and it would stare at us at night with its little red eyes. It was also poorly insulated and our electric bill would be very high each month..I'm talking $400. I am so glad we are out of there!

                          The 411 on Walnut Ridge

Recommended? Is that a trick question or a joke? I wouldn't recommend this place to a homeless person even if it was free. The worst part is we just moved here and I am already posting this to keep potential residents away. What does that say?
Where should I start first? The pictures that are shown on the website are the model. The buildings are extremely rundown, dirty, chipped and cracked. Plain out nasty. You'll notice there are no pictures of the kitchen. I kid you not when I say that a 1940's run down mistreated hotel bathroom is bigger and in better condition then the one here. If only you could post pictures.
Windows. If you are a morning person and like to open your windows as I do, this is not the place for you. In a 3 bedroom there are 5 windows (including the glass door in the living room). Half the electrical plugs will not hold the appliance cords (safety hazard), and half the darn keys don't work to anything. When you ask about it you get told the maintenance crew is working on a job and when they get done if they have the time they will complete your request and you could come pick them up.
My particular apartment? I found this out after talking to the current residents in my building that the damage done to this place was so bad that it stayed vacant for nearly 5 months and still wasn't fully completed when we moved in. Why is it that I had to find this out from my neighbors? What does that say for management? The A/C and heat barley work not to mention that it smells like a soiled kitty litter box.
The management? They are rude, unconcerned with the tenants and prefer not to be bothered. Oh. Did I mention RUDE? As long as they get your money they don't care. They tell you what you want to here but as soon as you are out the door you are nothing more then a fly on horse poop.
Maintenance is just about as bad. They are extremely lazy, very shady, do half --- jobs and rarely have the parts that are needed. I'm still waiting to have work done. Now for the maintenance kicker. THEY CAN ENTER YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now some people keep valuables and irreplaceable items such as antiques with them. Some have modern day bought things that have more value then Wal Mart things (not that Wal Mart is bad) right? Imagine this. You come home from work only to find out that someone you have never seen or know has been in your house "on that maintenance call" you made last week. WITHOUT even a courtesy call to let you know when they will be by. Then you find out someone went through your things or was in other areas of your house. Would that not upset you? It does me.
As far as the break ins, high bills and bugs. I can only tell you about the spiders. We haven't been here long enough to see anything else. I have talked to current residents and have in fact learned that the roaches are babies and not the adults.
And for those of you sitting here reading this thinking "if you are so unhappy then move" let me ask you this. Do you have $1800.00 just laying around with no purpose. That is what it would cost you to break your lease here.
SO PLEASE. If you have any morals, self respect, any type of class what so ever, or a family, take my advise DON'T MOVE HERE!!!!!!!!!!

I have lived here for a year. At first things were getting done. Now it's been a year and nothing gets done on time. There are ants and bugs everywhere in the apartment. Maintenance is lazy. All they do is ride around in the carts all day. The ladies in the rent office don't adivise there maintenance personnel to do anything. They are completely lazy. They also treat people unfair. If something is suppose to get done to your apartment it won't get done you will be waiting for a long time. Right now me and my family are looking for somewhere else to move. I would not recommend these apartments to anyone.

The guiding principle seems to be mediocrity. The attracting quality of Walnut Ridge was the price, but as I soon came to be reminded, you pay for what you get. Maintenance and living conditions seem to be kept at a level that permits the place to just get by. After I moved in, I learned from locals that this apartment complex is home to some of the more nefarious individuals of Corpus Christi including drug dealers. Car break-ins seem to be a regular occurence although I'm fortunate enough to have escaped this. Whatever the case don't leave anything more valuable than a soda can in your car or it will get hit within a day or two.

My recommendation is move here if you're in a financial crunch. If not, move to Bay Point further east on Staples.

Anyone that can complain about these apartments hasn't lived in the real world. I've been here for 3 years and haven't had a bit of trouble. Maitenance has always been very good and on top of what needed repairing. The office staff has always been friendly and helpful. Parking is well lit at night. The dumpsters are well maintained and never overflowing. The apartments are located in a convenient area of town. The fact that we have a page to express our comments online is saying alot about management. Don't you think?

walnut ridge is the pits of hell & mgmt is the spawn of -----!!

living in walnut ridge is definetely an eye opener..i moved here and the first week had $300 worth of groceries eaten by ants, had the lincoln symbol on the top of my car stolen, my other car was hit and has a dent in it,my ac broke and when i complained they put freon in and said let it run and it will eventually cool off..to give it a few days..well i have a one bedroom apartment and ended up w/ a $400 electricity bill and a still very hot apartment..they then put a window unit in my room and told me to keep my door shut and stay in my room because it was not big enough to cool my house..im pretty sure i pay rent for an apartment , not a room, and just yesterday my lincoln was parked right in front of my doorstep (directly in front) and my car was broken into.dashboard ripped off, deck stolen, door panel torn off, and backseat ripped from them trying to get into my trunk, while filing a police report officer told me this is very common in these apartments and then one of my neighbors who can not speak sign languaged to me and told me her car was broken into recently as well..the lady across from me got mugged.when i moved here i was told how safe it was because it is a closed gate community and they have cameras everywhere..the gate is hardly ever closed and when i asked about the cameras so i could see if i could catch the thief, i was told the cameras do not record and there is no one watching surveillance and that walnut ridge offers no security and that i signed my lease..where is the sympathy?..funny coming from people who post signs saying we love our residents..lol..please..as long as they get their rent checks they dont care about ANYTHING else..living in walnut ridge is like living in the pits of hell and management is the spawn of -----!!!!

                                        Trying to get things done

Maintenance requests can be and are usually very fustrating. First of all when you place the initial request the person taking the order doesn't relay your information correctly to the maintenance staff and so he shows up somewhat unprepared. Sometimes maintenance shows up and its not your apartment that needs servicing. Someone in the office wrote the wrong apartment number. I've lived here for 3 years. It seems the service has really gotten bad in the last year. It took almost 2 months to get my oven element replaced. (maintenance showed up, said they had to order the part. 6 weeks later I called to get the status and they were clueless. So it took another week to get it done) I had a leak in the bathroom floor at the door. After 2 months and 5 maintenance personnel looking at the problem, they finally replaced the wax ring for the toilet but THEY FORGET TO SECURE THE TOILET. After sitting on it and almost falling over it took another week, 7 phone calls and 2 trips from maintenance to my apartment to get it fixed (I took verbal abuse from one of the office staff when I called and one office personnel asked if I could write down the problem and leave it in my apartment for the maintenance man to see.) I sliced my hand getting my mail out of my mail box. I called the office and spoke to the answering service to let them know there had been an injury but that it was ok to relay the message to the office the next am. I left my phone numbers. I have yet to receive a call. When I called the office the following afternoon, the office staff had no clue about the injury. The girl that answered the phone said that all messages were given to the maintenance supervisor. In my opinion, someone should have advised someone in the office. I will be exploring all my options. Some of those people in the office at Walnut Ridge Apartments need to remember that without residents, they would not have a job.

                                          Corpus Christi has good/bad

All of Corpus Christi has good and bad points. This apartment community is huge! The management and maintenance works there butts off trying to keep all 700 apartments happy. Everyone that lives here has decided to live here. If they are unhappy, why not just move? If I could afford a mansion I would live in one. But I cannot, so I pay to live here and have a roof over my head. People that get bugs and think they have nothing to do with it are WRONG. If you see crime and don't report it to the office or police how can it be stopped? Everyone in Corpus Christi is lazy. Take some responsibility and decide what makes you happy. I like my apartment. The office people and maintenance know pretty much everyone living here. I plan to stay. Lots of apartments in Corpus are not great but this place is a good place to live.

The place is not safe. Young gang bangers have been known to hangout here. Also, domestic disturbances occur all too frequently. This means that the police are called out here -- many times in the middle of the night to settle these disturbances.

                                                ROACHES, ANTS, AND ASSAULT ANYONE???

My husband and I moved here in December of 2005. He's in the Navy, and I was just moving here from Oklahoma. I thought, in the beginning, that we found an AWESOME deal. The place appeared VERY clean, it had all amenities we wanted, and the staff was great. If we knew what we know now, we would NOT have moved here. I'll give you a brief run down...the other reviews will tell you the same thing....ROACHES AND SUGAR ANTS ARE A PROBLEM THAT DO NOT GO AWAY. My husband and I are both neat freaks and definitly clean freaks, and we still had a roach problem that we couldn't get rid of. They started out as just the HUGE stick roaches, but we started finding the tiny roaches, which was even worse. It meant the big ones were producing MORE roaches. We woke up one morning to ants all in our bathroom, shower, covering our toothbrushes, etc. Our A/C froze up easily 3 times in less than 3 months, resulting in high electric bills that we were stuck to pay. My husband has a GUN pulled on him in broad daylight by another resident we didn't even know. A guy was assualted in our complex 2 weeks ago around 1AM and beat. If this isn't enough to convince you not to live here, I don't know what is. If roaches, ants, and assault are your thing, than by all means go for it. But if you are concerned about safety, cleanliness, and getting your money's worth....DO NOT LIVE HERE.....
