Updated review
I saw that there has not been a review on these apartments in quite some time so I thought I would let everyone know how great this place is. I've lived here almost a year and the staff is great everywhere from the office to maintenance. They have breakfasts on the weekends, great community events, great neighbors, very quiet and friendly all around. Different apartments for different needs and very accommodating. Any time I've need repairs, I've not had to wait more than a week or even a few days. Maintenance is always very friendly and consistent. The only complaint I do have is that because of the brick surrounding the rooms, it is either really hot in the summer or really cold in the winters in our bedrooms so you have to leave windows open in the mornings or keep them closed in the winters in order to offset your electricity bills.

great place for active seniors
Luxury community is great withour the high Scottsdale resort rents.! Right across the street from Via Linda Senior Center and Scottsdale Ranch Tennis center.Lots of green space- looks like a resort and feels like home. Walking distance to stores, dining and banks. Location is THE BEST in NE Scottsdale as part of Scottsdale Ranch you have access to their community center, activities, and lake. At La Privada- fitness center, tennis court, putting green, and 2 pools. Block Construction so cool and quiet with large 900 sq ft 1 bedroom units on ground floor.New management is very concerned, helpful, and caring! We looked at 30 other complexes this is HOME! Gated community with alarms in each unit and panic button in bedrooms. Very safe and quiet neighborhood and complex. Complex must comply with Scottsdale Ranch's strict CCR's so exterior landscape & maintenance is awesome.

Outstanding for the most part.
I just moved out because of a new job that I created (not Bush). Everything was great... even the neighbors (expect for the bossy dog concealer - you know who you are). Its a great place to live being that its quiet, within walking distance of shops... AJs, Starbucks, gas station, bank... Because of the GW Bush's Recession and his ties to the industrial war complex the place is like a ghost town... which everyone there loves because of the elbow room. I suspect that if the democrats win and balance the budget again (so the republicans can invade more countries when its their turn to lead).... the place will fill to capacity and loose its charm (until the republicans mess it up again, of course).... So if you like the happy elbow room at the La Privada: vote republican again. If you want to be finished with the roller coaster ride... vote for Ron Paul!!!

Botton line with regards to La Privada
Everything is great except 1 thing.......... during the summer the apt heats up very quick and takes hours to cool down. Besides that, its great, very spacious with loads of parking spots always avail.

Love living here
We have lived here for 2 years now and for the most part, we have been very happy. The staff is amazingly friendly, and always do everything that they can to fix any problems that we may have. Since the sales people have been here, we have been treated to some minor issues, but the leasing staff always takes care of us. We love that they have events every month to meet other people, and the ammount of money that they must spend on breakfast for residents each month is crazy. All in all, we are glad that we didn't let the condo craze scare us into not taking a chance. It's been a great place to live.

back to rental?
Like most of the projects going condo that went bust-- they are aggressively seeking renters again because of the TON of empty units left unsold.

La Privada Went Condo!
We've lived here for almost 6 years and are moving out because our lease is up and they've gone condo. The good things have been (in our opinion) 1. It's quiet because the construction is block, not chicken wire with blown on stucco like so many apartments are here in Scottsdale. 2. It's a 'roomy' complex. Apartments aren't squished together, they're laid out nicely. 1 car gets covered parking but always enough extra parking for 2nd car very close to apartment. Office staff through the years have ALWAYS been attentive and tried to fix (no matter how minute the problem). The staff was always polite (even if they called us names when we walked out, we didn't know!)
The drawbacks to this complex is the cheap vinyl flooring and thin carpeting with no apparent padding! Kitchen cabinets are the cheapest crap I've ever seen, not real wood (fake woodgrain look that peels & chips).
Not important now because new owners can redo. White enamel painted block wall - spare me!
Landscaping changes from year to year. The first landscapers in 2000 were EXCELLENT. They let them go and the place has never looked the same. Hopefully they will realize this is of major importance to this very heavily landscaped complex. Very green with big mature trees are WONDERFUL if taken care of properly.
Any rules people have complained about in this forum I never had problems with. If you let one person hang a shade thing up, the next person wants to enclose the whole thing with screen and windchimes, little birds and the next thing you know, the place looks like a joke. (Better to hang a shade screen inside the room).
I rate these 5 years all in all VERY GOOD for apartment living.

they really don't care.
the staff at laprivada has known for 3 months about the change over to condo's.They had a small meeting on a friday afternoon.that's when their fearless leader also informed them that she was jumping ship to asister property.Noone's job was ever on the line for telling the residents the truth,I really don't think the know HOW to tell the truth.I have neaver seen, nor have I ever heard such rude, vouger language toward their residents.I workout in the so called fittness room inwhich I pass by the maint.room the so called maint.supervisor is calling this lady an old b---h just because she wanted some work done in her apt.I've heard alot of name calling from this man.Fellow resident nothing is going to get done around here. There's noone left in maint, that knows anything.Office staff well lets just say fairhousing.Lets just hope that the new managemnt (by the way it's MEB property management)will bring in a new staff that will respect and treat the resident like people and not trash.I'am sure meb would like to get to know thier furture residents' maybe we should drop them aline.E-mail/info@mebmgmt.com phone 480-367-9199

Not great like they make them seem!!!!!
I have lived in these apartments for a little over a year. Beside all the the insane rules they have like.. YOU CAN'T HAVE SHADES ON YOUR POURCH (ASK THEM ABOUT THIS THEY LIED TO ME TELLING ME THAT IT WAS A LAW!,LATER FIND THAT THERE IS NO LAW OF THIS),THE POOL IS CLOSED AT 12, THE MAINTAINCE PEOPLE ARE RUDE AND UNHELPFUL(INCLUDING THE MANAGER, ITS NOT ONLY SHADE YOU CANT HAVE ON YOUR POURCH THEY BASICALLY TELL YOU WHAT THEY WANT ON "YOUR" POURCH. Those are just some of the "crazy rules". If you like your privacy this is also not a place for you. They do monthly "maintaince checks" or what ever they feel like calling it that month, were they give you a letter telling you that they are coming inside to do whatever. I feel that this is the worst apartments i have ever lived in. They have also come to my house hold telling use that we have to move this or do this even though i can walk out onto via linda and see people with the same things.

I forgot to add that in the whole time that i have lived here they have cleaned the hot tub maybe once, and they "cleaned" the pool maybe half a dozen times (very poorly i might add).

Don't be so negative!
My sister lived in an apartment complex that was converted into condos, and the staff there also didn't admit to that fact until later. The thing to remember is, that staff now works for the new owners, and they are directed not to say anything. Their jobs are on the line if they do say anything, so it might be a little unfair to call them liars. They probably don't have any choice. Anyway, while incovenvient if you really only want a place to rent, having your apartment turned into a condo can be a good thing too. My sister got a chance to buy in her complex, and got some great deals! Just pointing out some positives amid all this negativity....

depends
We have lived at La Privada for awhile, and have always been quite happy to reside here. Until recently that is. While no one will come right out and say it, the general consensus is that the apartments are being converted to condominiums. There has been an inordane ammount of work done over this past year, and the buzz about it is that they are upgrading for conversion and individual sale. We have also had this "confirmed" by a person paid to do some work on the property, but when we have asked in the office... crickets chirp. We have been in twice, once each to ask Scott and Steve(the only remaining staff members from when we moved in)about it, and both times told directly that we are NOT being condo converted. Now I like both of these gentlemen, but it seems that the evidence as well as the "confirmation" that we got points to the fact that they are lying. I hate lyers, and wish that they would just tell us what is going on so we could plan for it. When do we have to move or buy? Be wary when looking to move in, you might not have a place to live very long!

from summer 2004 to summer 2005...BAD changes!
Let's see:
- Serious issues go unaddressed.
- Management doesn't get back to you.
- Office personnel sometimes have attitudes.
- Other tenants have similar concerns about a lack of communication and responsiveness.
- Consensus among tenants, from what I've heard, is that since Patti left it's been all downhill and this new manager, Lea, is not doing a very good job. I tend to agree.
- Rear mailboxes are not well lit and have obstructions where people walk at night to get to them, especially in the areas where teh lights don't shine and have resulted in at least a few stumbles and in some cases injuries for tenants.
- Insulation sucks. Electric bills are very high.
- They decided to reroof the apartments during the rainy and hot season. Not sure what kind of money they saved but it's inconvenient for the tenants, but what do we matter?

All in all, it looks pretty but hope you don't have any issues that require extra work to resolve because you might just be up a creek.

We have lived at La Privada for just a little over two years. Overall, we love the place. The grounds are beautiful, you almost feel as if you're at a resort when you're at the pool. Watching the sunset from the pool is almost like being in Hawai'i; I did say "almost". Parking is never a problem and we don't have any issues with our neighbors, except the woman who's cigarette smoke always warfs into our apartment when the windows are open - but what can ya do?

The office staff when we moved in was stellar, as was the maintenance. Always responsive and always timely. The current staff is less responsive to needs and the new maintenance crew seems to make more excuses for why they cannot fix something in a timely manner or why they shouldn't fix it at all (specifically when it comes to the increasing problem with mold. However, we've not had any problems with bugs of any kind - which I consider a blessing!

The only complaint that we have about the apartment itself is that in the summer, the bedrooms are very hot in comparison to the living area; and in the winter they are icebox cold. This summer, we also stopped turning our air off during the day and only turn it up to 80. Even so, it literally takes over 6 hours to cool the apartment down to 72 - thus the problem with the bedrooms being hot at night when trying to sleep. It's very uncomfortable.

Maintenance says there is nothing wrong with the air unit. This is our third summer and this is the first that we have EVER had a problem with the air cooling down the apartment in a timely manner.

Our electric bill in June was $190 - that is $40 more than the same time last year, and the weather is NOT much different nor has the cost risen to warrant such an increase. The insulation is very, very poor.

We are considering not renewing our lease because the service of the staff and maintenance is noticibly declining while the rent keeps increasing. We've also noticed the type of people moving in is starting to change up a bit. We liked that it was an older crowd because it made the environment quiet. Younger familes have started to move in and many of them are very negative and loud, as we have observed by the pool many times - bad language is being thrown around freely and parents are always talking down to their children in a negative manner.

The "security gates" are always broken, too - so not much security going on.

I would recommend, but with caution.

Loaded with character/Killer location
I couldn't be more thrilled with LA PRIVADA. I looked at something like 20 complexes before I discovered this place. I can tell you that you will look long and hard to find ANYTHING in the Scottsdale area with this kind of character, close to everything, in a beautifully maintained quiet and friendly community. I love that AJs Market, Starbucks, Walgreens, my dry cleaners, my gym, and my bank is right next door and I can walk there. The best part about the apartments are the brick walls in every room that give them that southwest flavor and keep the units warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

What a find!
We rented this apartment over the internet because we were moving here from Idaho, so of course we were nervous. It has been an absolute joy coming to La Privada. The staff is incredible, very friendly and helpful in every way. We had a few minor issues as expected, but they were handled very quickly and competently from the maintenence staff. The grounds are beautiful, and the buildings should be wonderful once the painting is completed. We are so thankful to have lucked into La Privada. All of our apprehension was for naught, and this place is wonderful.

This place is great
I am so glad that I moved in to this place, it is amazing. The staff is wonderful, and so helpful. The grounds are well taken care of and the people here are incredibly friendly. I have already been to a resident function and met several new friends. I am very lucky to have found this oasis in the desert. It really is amazing!

So sad to leave
I have to say that I loved my time at La Privada. My company is transferring me out of state, and I even thought about leaving my job because I loved living at La Privada so much. The staff is amazing, the grounds are well kept, and parking is wonderful. It is a very quiet community with a good mix of people. The pools are well maintaned, and swimming was always a pleasure. I hate to leave, but have to do what is financially best for my family. I highly recommend this place to anyone. The current staff is the best.

Question about the office?
I was reading your comment about the office staff. I currently just moved in and found everyone in the office to be delightful. However, i was trying to figure out which guy to avoid. There seems to be a few guys in the office (maybe one of them was the maintance guy).
I had one guy who was very helpful move me in. I even got an extra key out of him for the pool area. i just wanted to know which guy to avoid. I am older and really dont like to be bothered by mean office people. This is one reason i moved to the place because i fell in love with the apartment and the staff. Please help me clear this up.

Great apartment--avoid the office
The apartments themselves are bright and airy (especially the 2nd floor ones with the cathedral ceilings), and the complex itself as a whole is generally quiet, apart from the occasional blaring tv set. The average age of the population living here is much older.
The office staff is friendly and generally quite competent, although there is one guy who seems to be really lazy. He tends to brush your requests off or pawn you onto someone else. Yet he acts like he owns the place. I am amazed that he is still working there because I know plenty of other residents who feel the same way. If you need anything from the office staff just be sure to avoid talking to him and you will be happy (and he will be happy too because there will be one less resident in his face that day).
Notwithstanding this stain on an otherwise spotless record I would recommend this apartment complex.

La Privada ´s and -´s
I´ve lived here for almost a year and like the complex. The two bedroom I live in is quite big in comparison to my last two apartments. I love the space between the buildings and the layout. I love the location, Scottsdale Ranch is a beautiful place to be.
The maintenance crew is competent. I´ve definately had better service at other apartments. I´ve had to request that my air conditioner/heater be inspected at least 3 times in the last 2 months and always get the same response that it is working perfectly. If the heater was working perfectly, the bedrooms would be the same temperature as the living room. Instead, my two bedrooms are like an ice box and the living room is considerably warm. I don´t need to explain what that has done for me power bill wise. Part of the reason I moved here was because it is a gated community, the problem is, the gates are broken quite frequently.
There is a problem with the staff to control the pet waste problem. It has been a problem since the day I moved in until now. The complex landscapers do a good job in cleaning it up, but the office staff should take more measures to control the tenants who contribute to this problem.
The office staff is okay. I´ve had better customer service treatment at other places.

Nice place to live...
I moved to the Phoenix area and picked an apartment off apartments.com sight unseen. I was a little worried, but not too worried since it was in Scottsdale. When I showed up I was pleasantly surprised. The community itself is beautiful, and right next to Scottsdale Ranch which has excellent facilities. The community is gated, and there is lots of space between buildings and the parking lots are not crowded at all. Several pools and lots of grass around--including a putting green.

The apartment itself was quite large, but the quality was not quite as good as the outside appearances might lead one to believe. The stove was kind of cheapy (the range covers didn´t fit very well), and the tiles on my fireplace broke fairly easily. Also, had a bit of a termite infestation early in my stay...

However, the staff were always quite quick to address these problems and I´m sure they come up at most any place. Other than the termites, I never had a problem with bugs or roaches like happens at so many other places around Phoenix.

They let me have a satellite dish, and you are in easy range of DSL (so you´re not limited to just Cox).

Some people may not like the high percentage of older residents, but if you like peace & quiet, it´s a definite plus in some ways.

You´re within a close drive of several shopping centers, including Barnes & Noble, and a Home Depot. Bank of America is right down the street. The only reason I moved is that my job changed and I ended up having to drive farther to Tempe every morning, and so I moved to shorten my commute (hate traffic on the 101). However, my new place pales in comparison to La Privada.

Definitely recommend!

I love it!
I have lived at La Privada for one year and I absolutely love it. Yes, there are a few ignorant neighbors who do not pick up after their dogs and are ruining it for everyone else. We all know who you are and you will be turned in! I happen to be one of the responsible dog owners. I have lovely neighbors who have helped me in a bind or two and the maintenance crew is the best of any other apartment complex I have ever lived. While the complex may be old, it has lots of character!
