would never recommend it
My sister and I lived in this apartment complex from 2006-2007. I would never recommend it. Our garbage disposal was broken for two months. Maintenance had come to fix it, said it needed new parts and never came back. Upon telling the leasing agent this, she made it seem like it was my fault they had not done their job. it was noisy, i felt unsafe, and upon moving out, was charged an additional amount to the safety deposit of $200. When I asked to speak to a manager regarding the situation and charges, I was never called back. I called for an entire month. I will never recommend it, and i will be sending a letter to the management.

Professional Outgoing Staff makes The Lakes First Class....
I have lived at The Lakes for 7 months. The apartments are convenient in location and is surrounded with a lot of variety such as food, coffee shop, pharmacy,...etc. I had never laid eyes on the lakes up close until I came to move in and it was even better than I imagined. I immediately felt at home the day I moved in the the staff went out of there way to stay after hours to so that I could move in. They displayed patience in greeting and answering my questions. Most recently I had an emergency and needed to use the phone, they more than willing to do so. There were two snow days in Feb. and I personally witnessed some of the Leasing staff shoveling snow so cars could get out. If thats not out going; then what do you call that.....I would have to say "First Class". If you are looking for an apartment, I would definitely recommend The Lakes where its not only about looks but the people who live in the community.

Great ,caring and thoughful
I hae lived at the Lakes 7 months and I enjoyed everyday that I have lived here. Maintenance has done a wonderful job in delivering what they have promised great service. The ladies in the ofice is so wonderful, Kara the assistant manager has always been helpful when ever I had to call the office about work orders or billing. Amy has a wonderful personality about herself, she is very helpful and she always end the conversation by saying my pleasure woow great customer service and I would recommend anybody to live here.

I could not imagine a better place to live!
I have lived at The Lakes for almost six years now. I did not intend to stay this long, but I have been so happy with my apartment and with the services and ammenities (pool, tennis court, fitness center, business center, recycling service) that I hesitate to leave. The complex is beautiful and is located close to everything--shopping, movies, restaurants, hospitals, interstates, etc. The environment is peaceful and keeping noise at a minimum is a priority. I have been especially impressed with the staff of the complex. The maintenance team fills all of my requests within 12 hours of my calls. They always have the snow plowed from the sidewalks, the swimming pool in working order, and the grounds looking immaculate. They are always on call for emergencies as well (broken heater/air conditioner, toilet not flushing, etc). The leasing staff is also a delight. They greet me by name whenever I stop by to use the business center. Amy Kovacs, one of the leasing consultants, is a wonderful friend and goes out of her way to make sure that all is well in my apartment and my living community. I have no complaints and would certainly recommend The Lakes to a friend. I will be sad to leave when my job forces me to relocate.

Walking distance from everywhere
Positives: nice staff, fun parties, clean when I moved in! The Lakes is walking distance from everything possible, grocery, starbucks, panera, I love the location.

Negatives: walls are a bit thin.

Too noisy
Previous management was great. Loved Gabby, Abbey and Linda. Frank and Tony were the only good maintenance staff; the others were unwilling to do the work and made up excuses as to why they couldn't fix things. Neighbors were too noisy at all hours of the night. Street traffic was loud. Walls are too thin to keep out noise. This is unfortunate because the floorplans are wonderful and the apartments and community are beautiful.
Neighbors would not pick up after their dogs. Our downstairs neighbors told us that they could hear our toilet flush; I felt bad for them.

Consider This Before Moving In
When choosing an apartment, I looked not only at the ammenities and asthetics of the complex, but also the level of service I recieved from the leasing agents. I chose The Lakes based on all the above, because at the time I moved in, it met my criterias. Approximately 5 months after I moved into The Lakes they changed managment company's to NTS Developments. The state of the complex deteriorated from this point on. There became a very high turnover rate in the leasing and managment departments. By the end, after only 1 year, I knew no one in
the office. Communication between the office and the residents was, unfortunately, nearly non-existant. Not only were complaints and concerns not acted upon, there was never follow-up. Tracking down the manager became a daily event when I had questions. Even though it was explained to me that the criteria for potential residents hadn't changed since the managment takeover, there was certainly wiggle room and loop holes exposed and used. The demographics of this complex has quickly gone down hill and soon became a security issue. Before choosing this complex, be certain to look beyond the beautifully manicured lanscape. I would have loved to have remained at The Lakes, as it was close to work and my family, but the lack of comfort and security assured me moving was the right decision.

Good but not that good
I moved out of the Lakes in May 2006 so I was under the old staff when I lived there. First off, I got a puppy in March 2006 and was moving out in May 2006 and still had to pay the whole $300 pet deposit (or as they say, fee). Then, they were trying to charge me $700 for the carpet replacement and not take any of the deposit off. There was a lot of miscommunication on their part and thank goodness one of the regional managers from NTS realized this and took off $150, leaving me to pay $550. Second, I am thankful I didn't have to deal with the new manager too much. She was horrible with returning phone calls which leads me to believe she wouldn't be very good all around. The courtyard at the front of the apartment complex always flooded when it rained (maybe that's why it's called The Lakes). It was impossible to even walk through certain parts of it. There is a lack of grass and trees in the complex...not very dog friendly. I didn't realize notice this until I moved to another apartment complex. One thing that I did like about The Lakes though was the fact that I always felt safe. I lived alone so this was important to me. Overall, it was a good place but not really worth the price.

Terrible staff and service
The turn around time to get something fixed is null and void. The staff is not particularly helpful - especially since the new management has taken over.
I would never recommend living here as I would love to get out of my lease right now.
It is supposed to be a "luxury" apartment establishment and that is a joke. Basically you pay waaaay too much money for a terrible location, semi-pretty landscape, awful service and terrible turn-around time.

Great overall experience
POSITIVES: Great, friendly staff...usually got things fixed right away. Well maintained, safe.

NEGATIVES: Walls are pretty thin...I could always hear everybody coming and going in the apartment next to me. Sometimes parking was an issue.

Awesome place to live
I lived @The Lakes 4 years & only moved b/c of a job offer in Florida. What a class act & management especially Gabrielle Evans Gonzalez are first class when it comes to residents cares & concerns. She is so nice! They even stand in the cold to hand out breakfast & i had the same neighbors for 3 years so that tells you something. Great social events, maintenance staff & all. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Wondurful place to live in Indy!!!

Great Staff
I lived at the lakes for 2 years & I am writting now b/c I guess now that I am having the worst experiance ever where I live in atlanta it makes me relize how amazing the place was. First of all the staff, they where always so friendly always got back with me in a timely manner. Abbey would always ask me how things where going & if she could do anything to make my home more enjoyable. They always remembered my name (I dont even think where I am at now that they even know I live here). For example one time I had a leak in my apartment caused by the person upstairs even though it wasnt the lakes fault I can home to a fixed leak, flowers & a gift certificate to a spa to relax from the stress it may have caused. This my friemds is no typical in most communities. My maitnance was always done on time & followed up on!!!!!!!!!! I guess all I can say is There is no place like home & you dont know how good things are until you are in another spot.

it's a bit loud
I moved out of the lakes due to moving out of state, but if I hadn't I definitly would not have renewed my lease. I'm sorry to infor you madam manager, but your walls are thinner now that you re-sided the place. We had to deal with construction almost the entire time my rommie and I lived there. If I had know that I probably would have chosen to live elsewhere. It was highly annoying that I could hear alarm clocks, the ding noise from someone typing on AIM, TV's,stereos, party's next door, even normal conversations, and singing in the shower from other apartments surrounding mine through the walls. Sure I complained (especially about the alarm clock) but on my last day I was still stomping on the floor because the guy wouldn't shut it off ( I did not like doing the stomping, but how would you feel if an alarm is going off for over 20 min). The parking was adequate for the area. I did have a beef with coming home to find the back gate shut before the set time, but going around to the front was not too big of a deal. I will say the managment was nice and suprised me how they knew most everyones name, that was nice. Unfortunatly that couldn't make up for the noise. I wanted a place where I could come home to peace and quiet. Instead I had to deal with noise often from 3 sides (thank goodness I was on a corner apartment). It was quieter out on the balcony most of the time.

Annonymous doesnt hold credibility
While I am aware that no matter how hard you try you can not please 100% of the people 100% of the time, it is always disappointing to hear that we have not been successful in our attempts to do so. In our defense I must say that when we are made aware of issues, we work very hard to resolve them & in a timely fashion. I will also point out the following facts: in the past 18 months 35% of our total m/is have come from good word of mouth & Resident Referrals, 27 of our current residents, when they needed to go to a bigger or smaller apartment style, chose to move from one apartment to another within our community, only 2 residents have listed dissatisfaction with our community as their reason for moving. It occurs to me, based on the very recent onslot of negativity, that 1 dissatisfied person has contacted all of their friends & family to irresponsibly "sling mud" in an inappropriate forum rather than attempting to really Resolve whatever their issue was to begin with. Average
Looks good from outside and inside. It has proximity to shopping area.

The walls are thinly insulated which brings about a lot of noise. If you need a good night's sleep, this is not the place.

The office staff are friendly but hardly responsive. The manager has different rules, different rental rates for each tenant and there is no system here. Each time there is a different rationale on why things are the way it is. The rules keep changing daily. She keeps forgetting what she told earlier.

Frequently, there are street urchins knocking on the door asking for money or clothes.

If you are looking for a comfortable living, there are other good communities nearby which have good amenities and honest staff.
Run like the wind
This place is the pits. The walls are paper thin. It takes forever to get maintenance to fix anything. The office staff is extremely rude and immature. They are inconsistent in their rules and policies. When I tried to approach them about a concern that I had I was treatly poorly by both the office staff and their corporate office.
I would NOT recommend this place to anyone!

negatively outrageous service
I have lived about 1 year in the lakes and found it a very difficult living. There is heavy noise in the parking lot and many a time at night which easily disturbs residents due to bad acoustics. I had my car glass broken and fender damaged one night. So can't really say it is a safe community

The maintenance is generally late to respond. An issue takes about a month to get resolved.

The manager seems to be pretty insincere. There seems to be no clear direction. There are no benefits given to existing tenants, on the contrary, they are charged more than new customers upon lease renewal. The Manager gives all kinds of excuses to defend the mistakes act friendly.

Overall, I don't recommend anyone signing a lease here.

1.5 thumbs up.
I enjoy living here because of the friendly staff and the nice updates.

They take care of the property, although I did read a review where it was said trash was scattered all over the place. I haven't seen that except for when new siding was being put up on all the apartments, but it was being cleaned up.

I cannot hear my neighbors talking, but I can occasionally hear them walking around upstairs.

If I have a maintenance problem, it is taken care of prompty. They even have days when they will pick up your trash for you. During holidays, they'll do something special, like stand outside handing out muffins before you go to work.

The staff is very sweet and kind and I love my neighbors. When I gave birth to my second child, one of the apartment agents came over and told me if I ever needed anything to let her know. She offered to run to the store during her lunch break if I needed something.. anything.. at all.

Yes, one of the rooms is colder than the rest of the house.. but come on. When I lived at home with my parents, they had a room like that in their house. Get over it.

If you have a problem with your water heater, tell them so they can turn it up so your hot water will last longer! Ever since then I've never had problems with cold showers.

It is quite expensive to keep an animal there. The fee is non-refundable and bigger animals are not allowed. We had to give up our pet before moving here (although we had already made the decision to do that so it didn't have a lot to do with the apartment).

A few complaints: there isn't a lot of cabinet space, at least not for me. Carpet is hard to keep clean as it is light (mine is new and so I find myself scrubbing it constantly). Tubs are made out of some kind of plastic that is hard to clean.

Also, I should say I'm in an end apartment, so I don't have as much noise as someone else might.

I love being close (within walking distance) to Krogers and Trader Joes. Every place has it's negatives. I think the pros outweight the cons here.

Beware of The Lakes!
Where to begin.. I have lived over a year now, it was grat when I moved in then a staff changed came and it was downhill from there. There is trash everywhere outside that no one bothers to pick up. Sidwalks are not shoveled in the winter till around 10 am after everyone has left for work! The walls are paper thin, the hot water doesn't last, one of the rooms is always freezing cold. You pay way more than you get. The staff has someone of the snotiest people. They put brand new carpet in our apartment upon moving in, im so glad I can feel every nail popping up underneath! Beware before you live here!

Nice Apartment (Try to get in during a special)
I have lived here 5 months now and would have to say that The Lakes is above average compared with other apts. These are apartments so you ocassionally hear your neighbor's music or movement. However, I would have to say that the community in general is very quiet and I haven't had any problems with loud tennants yet. As for the apt. quality, it is ok (nothing special) and I haven't had any maintenance issues yet. The staff is friendly and keeps the grounds clean. All in all, I am satisfied with my decision so far as any apartment complex is going to have room for improvement.

A great place to live!
The staff of The Lakes apartments are always very kind and helpful. They obviously go out of their way to make sure that you stay is a pleasant one always asking if things are ok with your apartment. If there every is something wrong however, they are quick to fix and make sure that you´re happy.
The grounds are also very kept and clean. They also have many parties for their tenants.
You want to live here!

staff must be writing reviews
I have no idea where the people reviewing The Lakes have been living, but it sure doesn´t sound like this apartment complex. "Customer Service is Excellent."!?!? Huh? Even if that were reasonably true, it doesn´t negate the fact that the apartments themselves were crap, overpriced for the size, and the so-called "amenities" of the place are a complete joke. In no way is this a luxury apartment community. Simply calling itself that, and saying it over and over again in the marketing literature, doesn´t necessarily make it so.
Before you move in, realize the following: Your carpet will look like trash after a week regardless of how hard you try to preserve it. It´s cheap. Your master bedroom will be too hot in the summertime and too cold in the wintertime even though the rest of your apartment is fine. You will pay for water (formerly included in the rent) even though you will never see a usage/quantity statement like every other utility provides. You cannot barbeque on your deck/patio. In fact, you can´t even keep a barbeque on your patio or deck, whether in use or not. You will see part of your monthly rent check go to parties thrown by the management which provide an opportunity for a bunch of people you don´t know to get drunk. (The Lakes will make this look like they paid for it out of the goodness of their hearts) You will watch the majority of grass in the community go unwatered from June through September. You will watch that grass die. You will observe signs excitedly indicating the arrival of New Green Grass Coming Soon! The grass will be planted in October. Genius. The walls of the apartments are so thin you will be able to hear your neighbors talking at anything above a normal, conversational volume any time of day or night. Your neighbors most-likely won´t care that you hear them because this is Indy´s Hottest Address and it´s a constant party. Or didn´t you know? Your hot water will run out after one long or two quick showers.
In a nutshell, this is a great place to live if you are a recently graduated frat kid who still loves a beer bong, all-night X-box marathon, and some thumpin´ base. If you´re single, interested in Coors lite, Vin Diesel, MTV, and like to wear your hat backwards. . . come on in. The Lakes CATER´s to you. However, if you care at all about quality of life, a nice home in which to relax, and/or you´re over the age of 30 (mentally at least), AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. The happiest day of my life was when I moved away from The Lakes.

Excellent Customer Service
I just moved into the Lakes about a month ago. I became ill and was hospitalized. The staff went out of their way to ensure my kitty was taken care of and my mail was brought in everyday. They sent me flowers every week and came to visit me as much as possible. When I got home they had a welcome home party for me and made me dinner. Now after being home they have gone above and beyond to make sure everything is going well. This has been the most enjoyable time in my life even though I was in the hospital. I give GREAT praise to the leasing agents for everything they have done for me. If you ever get a chance to visit the Lakes you will thoroughly enjoy it.
