Sexual Harassment By Complex Staff
SEXUALLY HARRASSED BY EMPLOYEE AND NOW BEING HARRASSED BY MANAGEMENT. Hi All, i lived here for about a year and was told i could break my lease with no penalty due to being repeatedly sexually harassed by a maintenance worker. The office workers immediately knew who i was talking about and said he’s had complaints in the past. I met with their leasing manager, ----- a few times as well as --- and other leasing staff. I was told if i made a report i could break my lease with no penalty (financial or otherwise) due to safety concerns. i was scared at first but ultimately decided to make the report. The leasing staff worked with me to get the paperwork filled out and 60 days later i vacated. It’s been about 2 years now and i have recently been getting collections calls saying i owe money to this complex for vacating my lease - huh? I went through this whole process and was assured upon my departure i owed no money and had no penalties (my new complex said i had a glowing history from them). Well, it appears allegedly ----- did not actually file the report (staff said she was ignoring work stuff and focusing on her pregnancy) and now they want me to pay it. Keep in mind i was never sent an invoice, email, letter, NOTHING. i checked social media and this maintenance worker is still employed at the complex despite the reports i and others made. This complex is not safe for women and they are very shady. Luckily i have documented my due diligence and i will be paying nothing. RUN FAR FAR AWAY OR RISK BEING HARASSED.

Management always lies
The individual units are great, however the management of this property is comically bad, especially for the price point. 1. All access doors are broken, with exposed wiring, which has lead to multiple break ins of storage units, apartments, and vehicles. My roommate and i have had our cars broken into a combined FOUR times in one year. When pressed on this issue, management doesn't respond. I finally had legal counsel contact them and they claimed they're "working on fixing the doors" this was a year ago, no change 2. Constant construction. They decided to sand down and re-seal our hallway floors, but for some reason the process took 3 months? As soon as they were done they ripped it all up and did it again. The workers left trash and debris everywhere and the floors look terrible. If I was a prospective tenant the floors would be a big red flag 3. Every time I ask management a question I'm met with "i dont know." never. a. real. answer. 4. Both gyms are in dis-repair with missing and broken equipment No other apartment complex in the neighborhood has these issues. It's just bad management, plain and simple.

Pleasantly surprised!
I’ve been living at MTC for over a year now. I have to say, it’s a very nice place to live. Maintenance is very quick to respond to my work orders, the office staff is very nice and seem to really care about the residents and the community. Of course there are a few things like that garage gates/access gates being down every now and then but that just goes hand and hand with apartment living, and I can tell they don’t take pride in that and usually get it fixed asap. They do resident events of all kinds which I like because it’s a nice way to get out of the apartment and socialize. The best part was honestly when I renewed and my rent only increased by $5. I’ve lived at many apartments in my life and I can comfortably say that has never happened to me, it’s always been a $100+ increase. I think I’ll stick around for awhile.

Great place!
I just moved in a few weeks ago and absolutely love it! The office staff is really nice, maintenance is quick and provide good work, my apartment was very clean when I moved in and I love all of the amenities. They even do cute little resident events that are a blast to attend.

Hidden Gem
Management is attentive and consistently making efforts to improve upon the community - new paint, new hallway floors, new gates, landscaping, gym equipment. We love the events they host and the two pools. Highly recommend Midtown Commons.

Do not rent here
I'm not usually a person to write reviews. Only if you deserve it. In this case I want to warn anyone who is interested in renting this property. If you want to lose your mental stability and peace -> Midtown commons is the place for it. To begin with, the amount of noise that you’ll be experience is unacceptable. You can hear people slamming the doors, the footsteps of all the neighbors, fights, sounds of buses and even the intimacy of the residents. Parking is quite a case, very small spots in which you will be prone to multiple dents. When it rains it gets wet inside, it has a roof but the water enters and everything gets wet as if it had no roof. Pieces of the roof also fall and can affect your vehicle. I had a brand new lexus vehicle and rocks fell and damaged my car vehicle. It is a highly dangerous place. The gates of the garages do not work properly, so the garage is always open. You can even see homeless walking through the parking garage looking for items like in the corridors. (If you have small children it is not recommended.) They Broke into my cars 3 times. You could see windows broken everyday. The AC inconvenience: It is very likely that the air conditioning breaks multiple times in the summer. Because they are very old equipment. The Ac was so damaged that once rusty water flooded my bathroom and damaged a large part of my clothes and towels. the property was not responsible. The gym is destroyed and they do not apply maintenance. Very dangerous to workout. Also you can see homeless sleeping at night in the gym. They increased my rent by 30 to 40% without justification and their answer is. If you don't like it, find another place. This place was decent to live in but now it has become an extremely dangerous, dirty, and not nice place to live. The staff is not interested in the well-being of the residents, supposedly the property was acquired by some people from California and that is when the debacle began. The apartment has very old equipment, and take into consideration that you will be charged for the carpet and paint when you leave the property. It doesn't matter if it's in perfect condition. They will charge you. They charge you for a valet trash service Which is not consistent, sometimes they don't come and your trash stays Outside and the worst thing is that you will get charged if you don’t put it back inside. You might need to check several times to see if they came to pick it up or not! Before signing the lease, take a tour of the building and verify what is mentioned here. I will also post a photo of the social areas as they were before these people took over the property. I invite you to see how they are today There are many properties close to this with the same price and cheaper and do not suffer from these things. I have videos of how horrible are the noises inside the apartment, feel free to email me if you want to see/hear them. take care of your peace of mind and stay away from this place. Evidence attached.

Midtown is such a cool place to live. There’s two pools, fireplaces, fire pits and two amazing fitness centers. The team is super kind and is always loving on our two dogs and they even carry treats with them around the community to spoil them. We love going to events and meeting our neighbors. Shout out to Jared, Kelsey, Ana @ Madison for 5 star customer service.

Incredible community with amazing amenities
I have never lived somewhere with so many fun events and friendly staff. Activities that I would never even DREAM of! Special shout out to Madison who puts together things like puppy yoga (where all the puppies are adoptable!!) and pajama parties with drinks and snacks... it's an amazing way to make friends with people in your community right outside your door. The pool, firepits, and shops around the building are also incredible, I've loved living here!

I love this property. The team is super nice, they throw really great events. It’s dog friendly and they even have an HOA dog park which is rare at a downtown property. Super walkable neighborhood, access to coffee shops and restaurants and bars. I plan to renew for sure.

---- Town Commons!
Take a deep breath and smell around the perimeter of the complex, during the months of spring to early fall. Smell the fecal particulates. entering your blood stream. Take a ph level of the soil underneath the rock gardens, so you can determine how acidic the soil is from the many dogs dumping pooh and piss over the rocks. Little green space exists for the dogs to go to the bathroom. The only greenspace is a dirt area fenced in called the flea run (aka dog run). If your dog scratches from the fleas and then goes near the rocks to relieve then hope bacteria does not enter those slight wounds to put a damper on your spirit when you then have to go to the vet. And plug your nose when you go to the parking garage because you are literally smelling and breathing in waste from the mountains of garbage layed in an enclosed space before you. And be sure to purchase legitimate porch furniture because the staff at the complex wants to justify their high apartment rents by saying this complex is "trendy.". You will be sitting on a legitimate patio chair on a patio that is the size of one chair because the door that opens onto it does not give you much more room for anything else out there. You'll be listening to techno music until the early hours, and drunks with obscene attire. You'll be hoping for peace by fall because the parties go on until the early morning hours from spring until October. Forget about consistently getting your Walmart, door dash, and instacart deliveries. The drivers can't seem to "get into the building", nor do they want to walk up stairs and walk around the floors to identify your unit. They will drop your items at someone else's place, perhaps on the first floor or two units over. The homeless hang out at the bus stop. And one guy was murdered there, and a guy was chased by police there too. Your ten minutes away from runberg (aka rundownberg). Yet, you pay three times what they do , despite a few stops by the bus in between these two locations. They always have get together events for the community. Tonight, for example, is hotdog night. Yet, I bet you'd rather not be paying for such events, and pay less for your boom box style or mold infested unit. Look in the showers for the mold. Then, notice how loyalty to the complex wins you zero brownie points. In 2021, you paid 1600 for a two bedroom and now it is 1200 for the same boom box style apartment. Most apartments raised the rent no more than 25%, but this complex raised the rent 45%. The complex claims to have hard wood floors, but all I saw was linoleum floors that are painted to look like wood. Your feet will kill you walking on that kind of concrete all day. You may have to rent a washer and dryer for 45 dollars a month, and spend money on a garbage collection service that is inconsistent with picking up garbage. You can't throw many items away, and the process of moving in and out of the complex is the biggest PITA you will ever experience. Your like a kido in a dorm in college , and you pay as much as you did as a student for more noise and stench. Look around at where you can eat by way of walking. Over priced food and drinks! I've seen many shops go and come over the years there. This is no Hilton stay . The experience will be like a motel 6 experience. The only thing going for the complex is convenience, and good storage space. However, do not use the storage closset , or things will disappear. The apartment is layed out spaciously, but in the traditional boom box style. In other words, it does not have a home feel to it. ---- town commons will break into your wallet, and give you no return on your investment. You will be hoping for peaceful sleep. The rock gardens were likely put there for the complex to save money on lawn care services. Dog friendly should involve more than just we "allow pets" but provide a clean and healthy environment for you and your pet. These people are crooks! Keep your motel 6. Watch what happens when you act like your property is a property at the Domain when it is in reality a cousin to Runberg.

VALUE YOUR SAFETY? DO NOT MOVE HERE
VEHICLE VANDALIZED twice and CAR BROKEN INTO found window on the ground. STORAGE BROKEN into twice. Property management has done nothing. DO NOT MOVE HERE. Gates are left open, some not working at all especially garage gates and have been broken for over a year, no on-foot security patrolling the grounds, there are no signs or cameras on the property to detour criminals from breaking into cars. HOMELESS PEOPLE have been found SLEEPING IN STORAGE UNITS. An infestation of RATS has been stopped multiple times. Management reply to posts to appear to the public that they are willing to have a conversation to help one feel safer, but when I met with them after my last post there were constant rebuttals on everything they are NOT willing to do. I have 90 days left on my lease and simply asked for a 30-day notice to release me early and still the answer was no. I did not ask for any more concessions. MANAGEMENT DID NOT PROVIDE ANY EMPATHY NOR DID THEY APPEAR SENSITIVE TO ISSUES AT HAND. You have many options, GREYSTAR COMMUNITIES AND MIDTOWN COMMONS APARTMENTS AUSTIN DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BEST INTERESTS NOR DO THEY CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY AND PEACE OF MIND.

Since living here, it has been one horrible experience right after another. Construction is CONSTANT. I had to go several months dealing with them ripping out walls, hammering outside, breaking windows and construction workers with NO consideration for the people who live here. The office gives poor communication on construction timelines. My apartment flooded, the fire alarms went off for no reason several times; at times, wouldn't turn off for hours, and water pressure is horrible at random times. The first few months I lived here, my car got totaled by a drunk resident. The other people who live here also think they're the only ones who do, which brings me to the most annoying issue. If you have a noise complaint regarding your neighbor, the office will not do ANYTHING about it. They just tell you to call security and then, it just keeps happening even if you do. Management is hypocritical. They send an email about not playing loud music near the pool and then, 3 days later, they have a gigantic MTV style pool party complete with blasting music and an obnoxious dj that you can hear anywhere in the whole complex. If you're thinking of moving here, I heavily suggest against it. I'm going to try and get out as soon as my lease is up. It is NOT worth what you have to pay.

I would only recommend the complex if there was no construction going on. Neighbors, office staff, maintenance staff, and amenities are all nice - but the sloppy construction work is a never ending issue. Be careful to not step on nails or screws as they are littered everywhere. Also be ready to call the cops and go to court if your personal property is damaged because the complex and construction company will not take responsibility for damages they cause even if you take pictures. There has been continuous construction for the entire 3 years I've lived here due to the property owners trying to remove mold from the outer walls because no tyvek wrap was used against the plywood during initial construction behind the stucco exterior walls. A small amount of compensation($100/month credit) was provided when I lost access to my patio due to construction and my patio furniture was damaged but nothing has been done regarding the construction fence falling on my car leaving a dime sized dent in the hood of a vehicle I had only owned at that point for less then a month. A massive span of maybe 100 feet of fence fell on my and other peoples cars I took about a dozen pictures and it was just shrugged off and no responsibility for the damage to my property was taken by midtown commons or the construction company.

I have lived in a lot of apartments in Austin but this is the first one that has FULLY checked all of my boxes... like, ALL of them. Internet hooked up already, cool a$$ amenities, amazing restaurants and bars a walking distance away, being right in the middle of everything AND having an elevator, parking garage, security and HUGE WINDOWS is the cherry on top. Couldn't be happier about it

Midtown Commons has been the worst place I have ever been at. I know that times have been tough, but as a renter I had hoped that any apartment complex going through this pandemic would show patience and understanding for a tenant who was lied to. I was not allowed to see the apartment I was renting due to the current pandemic (back in April) and instead only received photos of the unit. It turns out "the" unit was actually "a" unit because the vibrant apartment I was shown was the opposite; dark, unclean and undetailed. The place was appalling and I never would have signed a lease if I had seen the actual unit I was expected to move into. Voicing my concerns to the office, I was given the choice of $250 or a chance to move into a new unit (which I got to see in person). I chose another unit but it was also more expensive and I had to move myself into it resulting in even more money wasted. There was never any opportunity to debate or even an inkling of understanding from the complex itself. I know they were technically "doing me a favor" allowing me to move but after the proof I provided showing I was lied to (including being given the wrong apartment address two times on my lease), there was a lot more for them to worry about. We are going on almost three months since I have listed and sent photos of a multitude of complaints that include my old and current apartment and yet, despite offering numerous chances for the complex to reach out, I was pawned off to various employees who all left within weeks of my email. Despite this, no one ever seemed to look at the inboxes of said employees to reach out to a disgruntled renter. I have been the one to continuously ask for a platform to discuss the situation. I gave the complex a date for when I would start posting my negative review if they did not speak with me, so here we are. As with most reviews, this is a Sparknotes version. I encountered so many issues just with getting into an apartment that I would advise no one to actually move here. If you want to know more, please comment and I will give you the exact email I sent to the leasing office the first time.

If the noise of transient, public transportation, police sirens don't bother you then noise shouldn't be a problem. The neighborhood is nestled in a great part of town, however there is a lot of crime. Most neighbors experienced vandalism and break in's including myself. Maintenance has been known to take a few months to complete a request and the staff is like the Trump administration. They are great at deflecting blame and will not offer you any help. Don't bother paying for a parking space either because one of your neighbors and neighbors friends will use it and the staff will not help you. We frequently hear transient yelling through the day and night. Trash and dog poop can be found like easter eggs throughout the property grounds.

So there is quite a few things that I want to say about this location. First off I lived here for almost 2 years. My encounter with the staff to say the least has always been positive. Emily usually goes above and beyond to take care of the resident issues, within reason. Some things are of course are out of the leasing office staffs hands. Maintenance and security is all separate from the office staff. I hear a lot of residents take their frustrations out of the office staff, like everything is their fault but again they have always helped me when I needed it. She even has shown incredible kindess to my dog as well who can not be the easiest to deal with. Carron barely knew me and when I met her she was incredibly obsequious, but not overbearing, super comforting. Valerie is always joking with me and gives me good laughs. I never use to go to the resident events until Nikita took over. She's always listening to ideas that the residents give her and apply it to events. Kylie is no longer there but when she was she was so great. The construction is a bit of an eye sore and annoying but that seems more of like the property owners. Some critical feedback id have is probably that the owner of the visitor and shopping garage started charging for parking which is so ridiculous. Especially since during the day all the visitor parking is taken by the construction workers. But otherwise I love the location, its 15 min from domain or from downtown. They have a convenient store and multiple restaurants. The demographic also seems like a bunch of young successful adults. Some families but they are polite and not overly obnoxious with their kids.

Do not move here. Our onsite storage facility was robbed and someone used a key to get in. I filed a police report because the office staff is the worst in the business. The officer said Midtown Commons has robberies and vandalism 2-3 times a month. The officer advised me the property is advised what to do to make residents secure and safe. The property manager Carron stated they do not have to fix all the access points and they blame the faulty doors on the alarm and security company. My other neighbors door was left open by maintenance and her dog ran out. My other neighbor received flat tires because the construction on site which has been going on for 3 years leaves nails and debri all over the parking garage. My neighbor took a video of Emily the manager who invites many people over to the pool was obnoxiously drunk where she couldn't stand up. It was embarrassing to say the least. Maintenance is horrible, the office staff both Valerie and Nikita talk to you in a rude manner like you're always bothering them. I lived on this property for a few years and honestly with the previous management here we had very little issues and I loved it. The location is great but this new office staff is horrible. They make excuses for everything and it takes them days to respond to emails or call backs. Move elsewhere, its becoming a crime infested slum

In a period of less than two weeks we have had 6 packages stolen containing nearly $2,000 of merchandise total. We have told management every time this occurred and filed police reports. Management suggested we stop using UPS, a suggestion that rings hollow in a world where most major retailers do not let you choose your shipping carrier. Management also continuously promises package lockers will one day exist but offers no dates for such lockers. When we put up a ring video doorbell so that we could see who was stealing our packages, management threatened to evict us and even went so far as to make up a non-existent law about video camera signage as part of their bullying. Management has been far worse than merely having apathy for our plight, they are actively protecting the thieves by forbidding the installation of cameras by residents. This complex is very unsafe. I have never experienced this level of crime anywhere else I have lived in Austin. In fact, I've lived in this city more than five years and this is the first time anything has ever been stolen from me. Whether you think this is a problem outside of the control of Management or one that their policies have helped create, the fact remains that if you live here, you are exposed to the threat of theft continuously and cannot feel safe in your own home. I would strongly recommend not living here. I would strongly recommend avoiding any other properties managed by this company, given their hostile approach to customers and their policies that expose residents to an unnecessary risk of theft. I wish that ApartmentRatings would allow a 0 star rating because 1 star feels far too generous.

I would not recommend this property. Leasing office staff does not communicate and is not responsive. In the few months I have lived here, I have dealt with horrible order from the water which even makes my laundry smell bad, a water leaks that took longer than normal to get fixed, a fire that occurred in one of the apartments in the building I'm in and tenants were not told until days later (I work during the day and have a pet at home), no information about when maintenance will address your work order request making pet owners having to confine their pets until and if maintenance decides to show, garage entry gates that are broken with no signage to indicate this or notification of it being repaired, outside building lights that are never on, some building access doors have secured access but most don't, I have to walk a good distance to the front of the building to get back to my apartment because some tenants will close the door hindering anyone from going back in through that door, and the latest is that a new tenant moved in about a week ago and has been extremely noisy each day since their move in, and I have requested 3 times that the leasing staff address this but they do not even reply. In addition, the property is littered with trash and dog waste and it typically smells like rotten garbage in the garage and the building corridors. Most of the office staff have poor attitudes and inflated egos therefore treat you like you're the problem when you ask for assistance, and act like tenants are a burden. When paying over $1300 for a one bedroom, I would expect better than this and feel that these are way too many issues to deal with after 3 months here. If you are considering Midtown Commons, I suggest that you find another property.

This complex was much nicer when Lincoln Properties managed it. The property was kept clean and repaired, management responded to security and noise problems, and the office staff was courteous, helpful and responsive. Now that Alliance is managing it, it's horrible. Halls, mail areas, and stairwells are dirty. Garage gates and security doors are broken so they don't work or left open, so the buildings and garages are not secure as promised. The first floors flood whenever there is heavy rain, so there is mold in many buildings. The nice workout room and club room in Phase 2 are always closed for rain repairs. The nice pool in Phase 2 is always crowded and noisy. DON'T rent a unit overlooking it or you will never sleep in the summer due to the noise: drunken college kids shouting and screaming. Once there was a DJ with a sound system ALL NIGHT LONG. The office staff is unresponsive. They will not call you back; it's up to you to constantly call them until they accidentally answer the phone. The phone will go to voicemail 90% of the time. There were multiple fires and "fake" fires (someone setting off the fire alarm) in the 2015, usually between midnight and 4 AM. Not nice for those of us who work for a living. Finally, the MetroRail stop is nice and close, but good luck getting on it. If you take a train later than 0630, it's very, very crowded and people here don't understand about moving back so other people can get on and off. MetroRail prices have also risen a lot over the past 2 years; it's now over $7 for one round trip.

The only reason I have one star is because there isn't an option for 0 stars. I went through an apartment locator (who was wonderful) to make the transition from one apartment to another as smooth as possible. I saw a tour of the model apartment (by Trish at Midtown Commons) and absolutely loved it, beautiful, clean, vaulted ceilings, and a fabulous sliding barn door in the living room, awesome concrete floors, very modern and eclectic fixtures. Signed a lease that next day and prepared for my move (very excited!). I signed a lease for a smaller one bedroom, so of course expected the unit to be smaller in size. Dealing with Trish over at Midtown Commons who I signed my lease with, I picked up my keys and opened my apartment that night at close of business. I moved the following morning. Movers relocated all of my things and helped my unpack to get settled in. I notice that the barn door Trish promised (and told my apartment locator-who confirmed by email) is nowhere to be found. A very large selling point for me because there are 10 other nice apartments I could've signed with, but I enjoyed the artsy feel of this complex. Also, the apartment is filthy with a dented fridge, laminate counters peeling off, and dust covering every surface you could imagine. Safe to say, I was less than impressed at the cleaning job. However, that was something I could get over, as I was going to clean anyway -- not a huge deal. I contacted Trish in regards to the barn door and why I was promised something different than what I received. After 3 weeks of going back and forth through email, Trish let me know that they were able to LET me move 2 months after my move in date, and they would LET me pay the uplifted price (posted online-actually sent me an uplifted price) for a larger apartment with a barn door. WOW, all that just for ME?! They really pulled out the stops in regards to customer service on that one... So, as you can imagine my response was...no. No I will not pay $300 more in rent, pay $400 for movers to move my things 10 doors down, and re pack and unpack my things (after almost a month of living somewhere). In efforts to get this issue resolved, I offered 3 options: -The complex can pay for movers to move me and I will pay $100 more in rent/month to move to the appropriate floor plan. -They reduce my rent and I stay put -They install a barn door and I stay put paying my current rent I receive a response 8 days later after having to proactively reach out myself (and seeing Trish in person and her not having the couth or professionalism to address the issue they caused) letting me know that they would not be able to do anything about it. Very disappointed in the lack of responsibility to take control of a mistake made on their end and do absolutely nothing about it. I had the "Bait and Switch" pulled on me and they are willing to do absolutely nothing about it. I do not suggest even checking this complex out because it will be a pain to deal with management and their employees even if you do love the apartment physically. I will keep this updated as to my conversation that I am scheduled to have with the manager next week (we will see!).

I wanted to post an update after living here for a few months.....I have zero complaints about living here. Trish and Rebecca have been extremely helpful in the front office with anything that I need. Seriously, they are awesome. If those 2 ever leave, Midtown would have some massive shoes to fill on the customer service front. The apartment itself is spacious and everything is working fine (knock on wood) so far. The location is absolutely amazing. You have a super clutch convenient store, a brewery, fuzzy tacos, and more all within a few yards. All of my neighbors are pretty awesome as well. Patrice is in charge of the community social functions and they have been a blast. This apartment complex is always having outings, dinners, and happy hours. They even provided us breakfast before work one morning! The location is absolutely amazing, especially with taking the train. A lot of my neighbors take the train to work ( I take it to go downtown on the weekends). Parking is awesome. The hallways are kept pretty clean and they pick up trash and recycling 5 nights a week. Guest parking isn't too bad as this complex has several spots available to guests. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone considering moving here.

Overpriced and poorly managed. The office manager acts as if she's too busy and above speaking face-to-face with residents. If you have any type of issue, you are left dealing with her annoying admins who are sometimes rude and condescending. They are simply collecting a paycheck and could care less about the residents. Furthermore, we have crazy neighbors who love to get rowdy right around midnight pretty much every day of the week. While these people suck, much of our misery is due to the lack proper insulation in the floors and walls. So if you decide to move here, be ready to have your private life on display to whomever lives adjacent to you. Also, if you ever have problems with loud neighbors, don't expect the on-site management to do anything about it. They'll laugh in your face! There's also dog poop and trash covering the grounds here. It's not uncommon to find the garbage shoots overflowing and thus stinking up the parking garage. We cannot wait for our lease to end so we can get out of Midtown.
