LOVE the Lakes!
I looked at various apartments for a long time and kept going back to Lakes at Cypresswood. I was very cautious in my decision and wanted to consider all aspects. Amy E. was my leasing specialist and was very knowledgeable on the complex. She was always outgoing and helpful when I would come in unlike other apartments. Overall, the people who live there are very nice, maintenance orders get completed ASAP, there is always a parking spot available and it's extremely beautiful and clean. I am very pleased with my decision and would definitely recommend this apartment!

No Place Better
I've been living here since it opened three years ago. The management of the place is excellent. They have been like family to me. Your maintenance requests are answered immediately, although I've had no significant problems. The quality of the apartments are top notch. You can rarely hear your neighbor. The only drawbacks are that you don't get alot of space for your money. They do run specials on their rates though so don't let the website quotes scare you away. I actually moved into a larger apartment last year for cheaper rent than my prior place in the same complex. It was a great deal. I might be moving out soon only because I need a bigger place and can't afford the higher rent. If and when I leave, I will miss this place. Crime is everywhere, but is rare here. This is still a very good neighborhood and I feel pretty safe.

My first Review
I'm not sure what some of these people are complaining about. The office staff is always very helpful and kind when I need something. The maintenance staff is very prompt with any problems I have. For instance, this Friday my heater went out and I called the office to let them know. Within 5 minutes the man was there to fix it. My building is very quiet and never have any problems with noise. I see lots of people picking up after their dogs, and the apartment addresses the issue if they aren't. As for the robberies... lets face it, they are going to happen anywhere. At least the complex informs me when their is one instead of never mentioning it. My boyfriend and I love it here and would recommend it to anyone.

Rude office staff
I like the apartments and would actually sign another lease here if the office staff wasn't so rude. Every time I go into the office, the women are snarky and unwelcoming.

Great place to live
I enjoy living at the Lakes and love the area. I've noticed that management is proactive in taking care of residents and is responsive & quick to solve any issues. Parking is ample, always lots of spaces. Never hear my neighbors next door. Maintenance is quick. Safety has not been an issue for me - obviously, you have to use your common sense anywhere you live and look out for yourself. I don't understand some of the other bad reviews I've seen on here....I've had an excellent experience living here and would recommend to anyone.

nice place but......... thats it
When I first moved in here I was so happy I loved the place. Then some of the people in the office became very rude and not helpful ( Amy she is a bit older) and she is also always on her cell phone every time I come to the office. I should also let you know that I have son about 2, and when my appartment got broken in to she said what you didnt have your alarm on. we are also not the only ones that have gotten broken in to about 3 other apprtments and over a dozen cars. I am leaving after my lease is up. I also think that my rent is a little high since nothing around here works, like the hot tub, the golf simulater, the coffee maker, and the biggest ting of all is they tell you when you move in that you can have parties in the club house and at the pool you just have to let the appartment maniger know a head of time, so I went to let them know that I was going to have some family over for my sons second birthday and they told me no because were not allowed to have no more then two guest per appartment so that left me with no place to have my sons birthday. Hope what I have said has helped you.

Here's for REAL
I don't usually do these ratings sites, but I just can't be quiet when I see what are obviously very immature comments made by someone that is apparently irrate with the staff due to a failure to follow the rules that are very clearly outlined to us at the time of move in. I moved into The Lakes over a year ago and the staff has never been anything but professional and friendly. Yes, there has been notices sent to us about crime for which I am grateful. I have lived in other complexes where they prefer to keep you in the dark and tell you nothing at all. Because I live and work in this area I can tell you that crime is not isolated to The Lakes. And, for the record no one has been held up at gunpoint here, yet...this happened at a nearby complex - our management just wanted us to be informed. The clubhouse is great! Sure, things break - they are mechanical, right? Oh, and the schedules for both the trainer and golf pro are posted monthly. Other than a problem getting the hot tub repaired that did take awhile I have never seen any of the ammenities down for extended periods of time. I do agree that dog owners are lax about picking up after their animals, but all that the staff can do is go behind these rule violators and pick it up. Just like those that dont follow the rules for the trash pick up. Any maintenance I've needed in my apartment has always been taken care of very promptly. So, there you have it...An honest review without malice.

Avoid!
First, I pay my rent on time every month, and the service people here are generally really helpful. But the management here is horrible. They have lots of shiny amenities, but half of them don't work. The hot-tub is off/doesn't work most days, and they actually turn it into a kiddy pool when they think it's too hot for it. The cappuccino machine they have doesn't work a lot of the time, and it hasn't been fixed in a while. As for rent, I feel like it's high. They also only give you a 2-day window to pay it online, which is annoying. Additionally, like to brag how they offer a personal trainer and golf-pro, but I've yet to find a time when they're available. They make you pay for trash pickup, but they only let you put your trash out from 6-8PM Sun->Thurs. For somebody who was working from 3PM -> Midnight for a while, this was a HUGE annoyance. When I asked if they wouldn't mind if I put it out anyways since I wouldn't be there, I got some really inappropriate anger and defensiveness from the staff. And sometimes I've noticed they'll actually come pickup trash early, which means you get a $25 fine the next day for leaving your trash out, even though you put it out in the prescribed window. And when they do find your trash, they go through it and look in your mail to determine to whom it belonged which is something I'm not really comfortable with. Parking has also become an issue recently. It appears they've oversold the property's parking, because one night I came home and there wasn't a single parking spot left. I had to park in the visitor's lot in front of the office, and take a long walk in the middle of the night to my apartment. That's not a good thing here due to safety issues the property has had for over a year. We're having robberies at gunpoint here, enough thefts that they had to mandate people using security systems within their apartments. Often we get a note in the morning saying that somebody's car has been broken in, and frankly I don't feel it's safe for my significant other to come visit me in the evening. And the response to these issues from the management could best be described as flippant. For the same amount of rent I'm paying now for a one bedroom, I could rent a 2-3 bedroom home in the same area as these apartments I've discovered, and as a plus I won't have to deal with all of the dog droppings around the property. Capitalism only works when we exercise our ability to buy better products when they're offered at similar/lower prices. I'll be doing that as soon as my lease is up.

Great People, Great Facilty, Great Place to call Home.
This is a really great place to live. I usually don t write reviews of any type, but I ll make an exception. The facility and amenities speak for itself, but the staff at the lakes At Cypresswood is very special. They are like family to us and they really care about the tenants, facility and the well being of the community in general. Along with taking great pride and care of the facility, they host many social and community events, from Cancer Drives to Monday Night football parties to their annual Crawfish boil held the Lakes at Cypresswood resort like main pool complex. They always go above and beyond managing the property. They make the Lakes of Cypresswood home, not just a great place to rent. So allow me to thank personally the manager Kathy and her staff, Tiffany, Amy, Brittany, Amy Johnny, Hector and Miguel, we appreciate what they do for us and the community very much!

The Lakes rock !
I read a few of these reviews, and i'm surprised to see people have bad feelings about the Lakes... after a full year, i have never had a single problem that was not addressed in 1 day with 1 e-mail or phone call... as to security... you live in Houston, Texas... get a clue... your apartment management is not your body guard... the property is kept in beautiful condition at all times except where everybody throws their junk mail all over the place, and lets their dogs use the area for a rest area.. what's up with that ? the only problems I've seen there are created by tenants.. not apartment personnel...from the maintainence crew to the office staff, all very nice people.. i'd recommend it to anybody RBO/HOU

I enjoyed it
Overall, I have enjoyed my time living at The Lakes. The leasing office assistants are sweet and helpful - they even leave a balloon and card on your door for your birthday! I'm not the kind of person who needs granite countertops and real berber carpet, but having laminate that looks like granite and carpet that looks like berber was a nice touch. What I liked best about my apartment was the amble closet and cabinet space in the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. The Lakes is a fairly new complex (about 3 years old), so everything feels new still with the latest design trends like open floorplan (dining, kitchen, and living room), brush nickel faucets, new black kitchen appliances, pendant lamps in kitchen, track lighting in kitchen and dining, two tone paint, and crown molding. I never had anything break on me, but I did call a couple times for pest control (just a few silverfish and baby spiders, nothing too bad). Maintenance was VERY quick to respond to my request for this, and the pests mostly went away after the spraying. The residents are mostly professional people (a nice blend of young and old). Overall, I do recommend these apartments. However, I would choose an apartment away from the pool areas and clubhouse. Most of the break-in activity seems to happen at or near the clubhouse. There are alarm systems in every unit which made me feel safer, but I wish they would hire a security officer to walk the complex at night. Nothing ever happened to me or seemed suspicious, but other complexes have this and it seems that a nicer complex like The Lakes should keep up with the Joneses. I would also choose an apartment on the 3rd floor, on a corner because the walls are a bit thin. I was sandwiched between two other units and could always hear a TV on. The reason I am moving is that I need more space, and found a better deal at another complex. The prices are a little high with The Lakes, but they are not the most expensive. If you value luxury apartment amenities (2 resort pools, gym, huge clubhouse), W/D in unit, nice-looking newer place, it's definitely worth checking out.

Horrible!!!
This place is terrible! It is not safe at all. Someone got robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot 11/2008 and not to mention apartments are broken into all the time. I can't wait to move out. There are always suspicious people walking around at night, and the perimeter gate was destroyed by Hurricane Ike, however they have yet to fix it. Also, the staff is incredibly rude and they don't fix things in a timely manner at all. I have lived in other apartment complexes and this place is hands down the worst one I have ever lived in. Also, the equipment is really really old so expect HIGH electric and water bills. BEWARE!!!

Not a safe place! Break ins, Robberies, Crime! Crime stay away!
So I have lived here a year and let me just say from the month I moved in there was a notice on our door saying, we have to alert you that a crime has been commited. A robbery what? Then the next month, there were 2 and then the next month and the next month. Therefore you can only imagine in 12 months there have been at least a notice abour the crime here. So if you like looking over your shoulder when you come home late at night because you don't know what's lurking in the shadows and you want to take the risk of getting your car stolen, getting robbed inside or outside, then move here. I got to say I don't like that I have to send a special prayer for my saftey where I live. Additionally, they have the nerve to be overpriced and not offer security, real granite, or wood. Get out of here! This was a mistake! I am looking to move this month. We don't care about the virtual golf or personal trainer you offer with your fitness room. If I have to look over my shoulder just to use these facilities, what's the point? Watch out!!!

Terrible
This complex should be shut down. Every bad review here is true. The positive reviews are fake and from the office staff. I know somebody that works here and she told me herself that they check these ratings daily and respond to postings. I'm sure my posting will have some replys stating how wrong I am. Not only is the office staff rude and the crime horrible, but now there are rats in these apartments! I shouldn't have to say more. The prices are riduclous for this place! Just a terrible situation here....dont rent here!

Cheap Cheap Cheap
This place looks very nice and appealing but it's all fake. The cabinets are a cheap fake cherry wood. The cherry wood face started to peel off after a couple of months. The carpet is a cheap fake berber that starts to show high traffic areas really badly. I am a very clean person but the carpet would always look dirty in high traffic areas. The staff was very disorganized and months after living their I was called back into the office to sign papers from my original lease. During the summer, all kinds of people who don't live there crash the pool. The gates never work. Oh, and did I mention there is a huge crime problem??? Almost weekly we would get notices of another break in. One time, someone was held up at gun point. Maintenance will respond to an issue, but not fix it. Just sucks. There are much better cheaper places.

horrible
Absolutly horrible complex. They will do whatever it takes to make money off of you including lieing to your face. The staff treats you like your bothering them when you call for any reason whatsoever. Constant attitude. Bullying tactics like posting eviction notices on your door on the first of the month before lunch. Horrible security. 8 apartments hit and the clubhouse robbed in less than 13 months. Golf simulator hasn't worked correctly for over 6 months.

Great place to live for 2 years
I moved into the Lakes in March 2008, and I really enjoyed living here. From the start all the staff was courteous and helpful, and the management is top-notch. Very responsive anytime I had an inquiry or need. The apartments are well kept and well maintained. Although rent is a bit high in my book, well, you get what you pay for. My pre-teen daughter lived here with me as well, and she loved our place. Especially nice was the main pool area, which my apartment overlooked. I personally visited around 10 apartments in the area, and interviewed staff/management. The Lakes was my choice, and I can recommend to to anyone.

I love this place
If you want the best place to live in North Houston then you have just found it. Lakes at Cypresswood is just a fantastic community. The take care of every detail of moving in and never once gave me a chance to complain. Rosy is the manager who looked after me and she is just fabulous. They answer any maintanince requests within a couple of hours and never say they can't do something. Plus you wont find 2 pools, a gym, a amazing residents lounge (pool tables, Coffee bar, 4 big screen tvs , a fire place) any where. Simply put. This place rocks!!!!!!

Not what it was when I moved in
I have been a tenant for a little over a year now. We will be moving out soon but I have seen changes since we move in. They lowered the rent so low that anyone can get in. I wake up to my downstairs neighbor playing their music so loud it shakes the floor. I haven't said anything because I dont want any issues since our lease is almost up. I know crime does not have an address but a couple of weeks ago I came home and there was a fairly new car on blocks! I think if the rent was higher like when I moved in there would better quailied people. The maintenance staff is wonderful and takes care of anything you have a propblem with. Our a/c went out and they were there in less then an hour. That is one thing that has not changed! The freeze affected everyone but something needs to be done about the area where the bar-b-que pits are. That tall grass is a snake haven and I am araid to walk near there at night with my dog. Someone could hide in there it is so tall and grown over! I know they have not done anything over there with the plants in months. I would recommed this complex because these are small issues that could be resolved if they took the right steps and I have stayed in alot worse. I loved my apartment when I first moved in but I am happy to be leaving.

Crime
The crime at this complex lately has been unreal. Recently been a victim, I can agree that it's hard to argue "safety" when you're the victim. I was lied to and told there are so called "security cameras" on the premises when in fact they are not. The gates give a false sense of security. I realize it's not just our complex but more the area; therefore I think the management should invest in security 24/7. A "sorry this happened to you" is not going to fix the issue. Renters beware.
