Lockout ripoff-wrongfully delated
This post was delated by management to hide the truth. You be the judge.<br><br>$40 lock out charge is a rip off!!!<br>From: missy23<br>Date posted: 8/21/2004<br>Years at this apartment: 2004-2004<br>Before anything else I want to thank the person(s) who put the flyer under my door. Good Move. The office would never tell me how to contact the owners. This is the next best thing, because the owners may read this. <br>I really love the Aspen, but the way it's run spoils it for me. I can deal with the problems you can get in an old building. After all the rent is fair. It's just small annoying things that goes back to the staff's attitude, especially the ***one –who–must-not-be-named***. She definitely has psychological issues. The woman obviously gets such rush out of turning down your request, while calling you "sweetie" the whole time. The most annoying experience I had was being locked out and I had to pay $40 (cash)to get in. I can understand if it was late, but at 8:00? Even the most expensive buildings usually charge about $10-15 for same service, which is a fair price for the inconvenience. $40 to me is YOU ARE A BAD GIRL/BOY AND YOU NEED TO BE PUNISHED. Just my thoughts.<br>

Repost about roaches in trash rooms
Another post that was removed. We archive all posts in an effort to keep this forum fair. We know it's you!!!<br>Oh yes, THANK YOU for FINALLY putting Roach powder in the trash rooms this morning. I guess this web site is actually pushing you to (for the first time) pay some attention to us tenants. Maybe you will even have a change of heart and start giving a darn (no profanity here, webmaster!) about us tenants and start treating us like YOU would like to be treated. Start by actually saying OK to something one of us wants for a start. you might even get to like it. After all customer service is supposed to be a good thing, yah think?<br>Thanks ApartmentRatings.com!!!<br>PS-I agree with the last post-**** RULES!!!<br>

Dishonest Management
I think it's really disgusting that management thinks the right way to address tenant concerns is to hide them by having<br>legitimate posts removed from this forum.<br>Almost 18 negative posts have been removed.<br>The message is clear: TENANTS DO NOT MATTER TO MANAGEMENT.

ROACHES
There has been an on going roach infestation (try killing a few every time you use the bathroom) and management has done almost nothing while even questioning if there's a problem. Rude management. Poor maintenance. They tried to unclog a dishwasher three times by using a coat hanger. After it kept on clogging I had to fix it myself. Do NOT live here.

Tired of dealing with management
I have no serious problem with my appartment. As a matter of fact I think it is a great place to live in. What amazes me is the building management's horrible attitude in dealing with Tenents. They have this illusion that Aspen is a project house. WE ARE PAYING RENT, CAN WE GET A DECENT SERVICE?

I would recommend
Overall, The Aspen is a nice place to live. I always get complements on how the interior of the building looks and how spacious and nice my apartment is. The price is good, the apartments are spacious (with a WONDERFUL view), any problems are generally fixed in a timely fashion, and ALL UTILITIES ARE INCLUDED (you don't find that everywhere). The maintenance workers are very quick in fixing problems. One time I had a leak and I called the emergency service on a Friday evening and under a half hour someone was knocking on my door to fix it. That is what I call FAST SERVICE. The management is nice (more or less). That is one of the reasons why I decided to move here instead of the other 10 places I went to go and see before I moved into the area. They are humans too, so they have their "not so good" days. One down side is that at times there could be a roach problem. I think it is more likely on the lower floors than the higher ones. However, an exterminator comes once a week, so you could put your apartment on the list to get exterminated. Since I've gotten that, I haven't seen them (so hopefully they will not come back). The grounds seem secure, so I definitely felt safe and a security guard patrols the building and the parking lot. The majority of the residents are pleasant to be around. One thing I didn't like about the actual apartment was that when it was very windy outside, the windows would shake.

THANK YOU ASPEN MANAGEMENT
I have to say Thank You to the Aspen Management. I have been living at The Aspen for 3 years and haven't had any problems at all. When I call for parking passes, building problems, or utility issues, they have come to the call... The office staff have been helpful and courteous, especially when I took orders to Iraq and Afghanistan. They were more than helpful in renewing my lease and ensuring my apartment is taken care of while I'm gone. I couldn't ask for better and I feel rest assured they are on top of things. Again, Thank you to everyone in the office... Best of luck in the next year. Be back soon...

Mixed Feelings
Pros<br>Pool, workout center is limited but kept very clean, book room is great, maintenance staff fixes problems when they arise, very friendly tenants, convenience store with dry cleaning service(!), walk to DAsh bus or metroliner (both are very clean, but could be more frequent at times), quiet tenants generally and easy to study in the evening (even on the weekend when it needs to be done), have had good experience with management but sometimes hear stories from others, laundry on almost all floors, elevators usually come fairly quickly, loading dock and cargo elevator make moving easy. supermarkets are convenient, bike path is a reasonable distance away, there are nice places to job nearby although it is hilly. <br><br>Cons<br>Roaches (different species of them even), mold in convector which constantly has open water inside of it (allergies), need a parking pass for friends to park, very noisy on the side of building with dumpster (bottles crashing at 7 am this Sunday morning even - not that I wasn't warned), some balconies aren't particular private because of shape of building (no naked vacuuming), stove isn't vented, sometimes wind can be noisy b/c windows are large and old<br><br>vtwarrior1@verizon.net

Happy since May
I have been a resident here since May and have had no serious concerns, and am surprised at a lot of the dissapointed comments. It's a great place to live for the cost. All issues I've needed assistance with I have gotten taken care of in a timely manner. It's a nice quiet place to live, there is never any issues with parking, laundry facilities, etc. The only thing that would make me happier is newer workout equipment. Management should also possibly put up a sign for people that use the equipment to be adequately dressed. I know of a particular incident where an individual works out in work clothes, and to ensure the longevity of the equipment they shouldn't! Other then that I like it here, and I'm glad they have given a graduate student (with little income) to be a resident here! All of my guests LOVE my place, and for being a younger female in a studio I feel safe, and for living in a populated are thats a BIG thing!!!

Not up to Code= Americans with Disabilities Act!!!
If the building was up to code, we wouldnt have to worry about how heavy the front door was. It would have an automatic door openner on it!!! What about these poor residents who walk with a cane or a walker? or how about a wheelchair? I dont see a button for them to push so the door opens for them.... <br><br>Also, what about these fire exits? Is it just me or are they a problem... why is there not push bars on them so all you have to do is push the door open instead of turning a door knob? Also, how about installing a window on the doors to the stairs so you dont take out anyone when you open it? I almost took out this poor resident walking her garbage down yesterday!! <br><br>What about installing a door with a window on it for the floor 5 exit so someone doesnt come home one day and get knocked out as someone walks out the door! <br><br>The parking lot also has a lot of dark spots in it at night... some of the light bulbs have been burnt out for some time now on the lights. WHen is someone gonna address saftey around here?

False Alarms
There are too many false alarms in this building. This is most probably caused by declining tenent quality as the rude and uncaring office staff drive out,one by one, any tenant who has a complaint or concern. The staff don't want to hear it. Their method of fixing a tenant problem is to change the tenant.

Overall, pleasant and well tended
We've enjoyed living at Aspen House and especially appreciate the strong noise control. It would be nice for management to organize opportunities for residents to interact socially; for the most part, there's not a real sense of community. <br>

Fix the FRONT DOOR
"MANAGEMENT" in Aspen really wants to make sure no one is welcomed here. I think after living for more than 2 years we all are gradually getting used to the abuse of "MANAGEMENT". Yesterday my poor mother twisted her wrist in order to open the front door (to the lobby). It is really unacceptable. if you want to move to the Aspen make sure you are a body builder and over 130 lb. and ammune to insult and rude behavior of "MANAGEMENT".

Roches everywhere
Roches in the trash rooms by the dozens,<br>Roches in the Elevators,<br>Roches in the lower floor stairwells (lobby)<br><br>I don't expect to never see a Roach, but the infestation is serious, and if you step on one, you can carry the eggs back to your clean apartment. Also, the staff has a real attitude when asked to deal with the problem (obviously whatever method of pest control in place is not effective). The windows are also in terrible shape and allow flies and other bugs in.

Excellent value
I have lived in 3 nearby apartments of similar price range within the last 5 years, am familiar with many more, and can honestly say that The Aspen is unquestionably the best value for its price. Despite the fact that I am relatively high up on the front (with a gorgeous view of the city), the other merits of this place would still convince me to live here if my position were not so good. Do you like a "firm", but friendly management? That is: You pay your rent on time and like the fact that they enforce relative quiet.<br><br>I like the facts that:<br>-They have the best apartment exercise & party rooms I have seen in this area;<br>-Inside grocery store open until 10-10:30 pm every night & they do excellent tailoring for unbeatable prices;<br>-Building in excellent condition, floor is clean, laundry rooms kept spotless, common restrooms for exercise room & pool cleaned daily, snow clearing is pretty good...;<br>-Nighttime security guard -no fear in parking lot;<br>-Have *never* not been able to get a parking spot within the gates here;<br>-Exceptionally beautiful (outdoor) pool;<br>-Incremental improvements every year, including: hall carpets, TV's in exercise room, extensive outdoor remodeling, new patio furniture for the pool (the old stuff looked fine to me), new washers & dryers on each floor, added USP boxes for parcel deliveries, new ceiling fans and door closers (pushes apt. door closed to reduce fire risk), adapted security gate and front door to open on cell phones (not just land lines) after I requested it;<br>-I was just interrupted by a polite maintenance man who quickly improved my toilet (it was slow to fill) after I had made the request less than 1 hour ago -and, hurried off to get new fluorescent bulbs when I claimed, but could not demonstrate, that the lights sometimes did not fully turn on;<br><br>I can only give you my experiences, and I am a quiet, single professional (my son lives with me). If you don't like a firm, on-site management with strict parking regulations, try living at The Dolly Madison, London Park Apartments, etc., and then try to state your case again.<br>

Excellent Value, another fake post by the Aspen Staff
Get Real! "Excellent Value" is just more ad copy out of the leasing office. The staff should stop having posts delated and start concentrating on fixing what is wrong-Roaches, pool hours, leaky windows, stupid parking rules, and most importantly, staff attitude.<br>How can anyone recomend the Aspen when the staff is dishonest (unfairly having posts delated)about the problems here?

Why are so many posts being removed?
I have been following this web page with some interest for the last week or so, and I notice about 15 posts are gone. Why is this and how is it being done? This does not seem fair to the users of this site-if only bad posts are removed, how can we tell what is really going on at the Aspen? I really don't like the feel of "cover up". I am also not happy about the mold on my ac unit. "Don't use it", as I've seen here , is not an answer.

Not reccomended-Many Reasons
1)Very Rude Staff<br>2)Terrible parking situation-due to rude staff<br>3)LOTS of Roches<br>4)Pool closes at 7:00<br>5)Library almost always closed when you need it-how about adding a door thingie like the exercise room so we can get in after the office is closed?<br>6)Lame security-tows people WITH parking passes<br>7)Uncaring office staff-doesn't care about #6, and won't pay for WRONGFULL towing<br>8)Leaky windows<br>9)ZERO desire to make thing right. If you don't like it, move out. Many have.<br>10)MURDER here-and never ANY official info from the management-don't you think we would like to know for our peace of mind? This depite the monthly newsletter filled with useless trivia. How about sending a questionaire and finding out tenants concerns instead?

We've moved out
My wife and I recently left the Aspen. We loved the views and the rent was fair (at best) for the buildings condition, but the problems and aggrivation got to the point where we moved out rather than keep fighting with the office about stuff that never should have been an issue-too many roaches, bad wiring in our apartment, no flexibility in parking arrangements, etc.<br>Not worth it unless you like a fight.

RUDE MANAGEMENT-3RD TIME REPOSTED
***REVISED AGAIN*** Maybe the TRUTH will be allowed to stay here without being removed by "MANAGEMENT"***When my husband and I moved in here we thought this is too good to be true.<br>Great view, reasonable price in an upcoming neighborhood. It is amazing how bad<br>management makes all these important factors unimportant. I have lived in many<br>different apartments which were ten times bigger than The Aspen House, with much<br>more complicated problems and which were run professionally. The very first time<br>I got introduced to the management was after signing the contract, the night we<br>moved in. "MANAGEMENT" is just so good at humiliating people, and it has nothing to do<br>with the reason behind it, its just the way "MANAGEMENT" treats The Aspen tenants. <br>The second time I met "MANAGEMENT" at the lobby. With a smile on my face I attempted to<br>ask "MANAGEMENT" about a problem which my husband and I listed on the pre-moving<br>inspection sheet which had not been repaired. "MANAGEMENT"s unspeakably RUDE response kept<br>me shaking for hours. I understand this is an old building with lots of<br>problem that can be fixed and sometimes even compromised on, but what is not<br>acceptable is the "MANAGEMENT"s unprofessional and offensive behavior. God<br>Forbid if "MANAGEMENT" decides to not like you, "MANAGEMENT" makes sure to push you out by making<br>an extra effort to come up with more NO's. We all are paying rent and for<br>the duration of our rent we supposed to feel at home. Management is not doing us<br>a favor, WE ARE PAYING RENT AND ARE CUSTOMERS. THIS IS NOT A PROJECT HOUSE. A<br>Word of advice for the "MANAGEMENT": I am sure "MANAGEMENT" would have a brilliant career<br>running the county jail. A WORD OF ADVICE TO THE OWNERS: CHANGE THE "MANAGEMENT"<br>BEFORE YOU LOOSE MORE QUALITY TENENTS, WHO PAY ON TIME AND KEEP THE PLACE CLEAN<br>AND DECENT.<br>

Parking
IF YOU HAVE A NICE CAR, DON'T MOVE HERE. THE MANAGEMENT HAS MADE THE SPACES SO NARROW A MOUSE CAN'T GET OUT. I GOT A DENT THIS WEEK,$750 TO FIX,MANAGEMENT DOSN'T CARE AT ALL. DON'T EVER EXPECT TO HAVE A FRIEND OVER-HE/SHE WON'T GET A GUEST PASS. DON'T RENT A CAR EITHER, IT WILL MOST PROBABLY GET TOWED, EVEN IF BY A MIRICLE YOU GET A PARKING PASS FOR IT.<br>THIS PLACE IS NOT YOUR HOME. ASK THE STAFF, THEY WILL TELL YOU THIS. APARTMENTS ARE HOT IN SUMMER, COLD IN WINTER. OFFICE WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT, EXCEPT SPEND MONY ON OUTSIDE OF BUILDING TO MAKE IT LOOK GOOD FOR NEXT SUCKER. I'M LEAVING IN 2 MONTHS, NOT SOON ENOUGH.

Unhappy Tenants
I'm not surprised by the posts I see here. I've also been treated rudely (to say the least) by the person I think everyone means. Nonetheless, The Aspen has a lot going for it, like great views, decent rent and a good location. Unfortunately, the staff is so unhelpful that little problems become dealbreakers. I hope the owners are looking here, I'm going to give a low score to help balance the posts that were removed.
