Worst experience ever
New to Los Angeles, and new to apartment living, I couldn't be more disappointed that my first experience is this dump. I have had so many problems with this place, I could write a book. I have followed all the rules, and reported everything to management, except management NEVER answers the phone, and no one ever returns your call when you leave a message, even when you explain it's urgent. The maintenance crew is made up of slobs that destroy your apartment during the day when you're not home. Never authorize anyone to enter your apartment, unless you're home to monitor. I have had numerous items of clothing stolen from the laundry room. I have had to miss work twice to come in person to the management office in order to communicate with someone about my issues. This is the most disappointing experience, and it makes me sick to dish out the high rent every month for the s---t hole I have to live in.

Don't Rent Here - It Blows
The place is awful. Moved here from out of state (so I had to trust what I saw on the net, and I didn't know about this site) and there have been 3 owners in three years. Every year a new owner comes in, promises to fix the building, so you think things are gonna get better and sign a new lease, but they don't get better. Instead, each new owner does a bunch of construction without consulting residents to find out what THEY need or want, then flips the building over to a new owner, who does the same crap. There are workmen running around here ALL the time - even weekends - making noise, there are weird chemical smells all the time, dust, drilling holes in the walls, poor security, construction materials all over the place, workmen's trucks are always parked blocking the driveways, so even coming and going is annoying, the hallway carpets are trashed from the workmen dragging tools and crap around. The faucet water is one of two temps - skin scalding hot, or ice cold. And I haven't gotten a chance to use the pool even once, because every time I step out of my door, there's some construction worker gawking at you. Meanwhile they couldn't manage to change a lightbulb in the hallway for like, 6 months. The ONLY advantage to all the construction has been that it's so disruptive, it's driven away the cockroaches. (I killed a 2-inch large one in the common area when I moved in - biggest bug I'd ever seen, and it took 4 requests to the first owners - which went ignored, and another 2 to the second owner before they sent up an exterminator). Each batch of management is ruder, less caring, and more coldly corporate than the last. There is no privacy, and there's a new "Oh by the way, we're going to mess with you some more" notice on your door like every other day. And as if all that wasn't bad enough, each new owner raises the rent to a degree one can scarcely believe it. Rent has gone up in this building more in the past three years, than in the all the previous apartments I've lived in during the last decade - COMBINED. And it is so not worth it. The instant I find a new place, I'm out of here, and after moving around a lot in the Army, I absolutely HATE moving. That's literally the ONLY reason why I haven't left so far. I'm TIRED. Iraq is worse by comparison - but that's an awful low bar. All I wanted to do was settle in a place and relax, and now I ended up with this crap. LISTEN to what others have posted. Move in here, and you'll either end up homeless from the sudden, and completely unwarranted rent increases, or you'll be aggravated into insanity.

Its YOU not THEM!!!
If you are or use to be a resident at serravella and has had a bad experience then sorry but honestly most of you were probably bad residents anyways.Construction I must say is a headache before they got it under control the water was being shut off like everyday, unexceptable!!! The fire alarms were out of control but you cant blame anyone but the nasty residents that use to live here. Thank God management did something right and got some of them out of here, there are still a few and I hope they get kicked out soon.Anyway I think that everyone on here that has had a complaint was probably because you were once one of those nasty residents!! Thank goodness you gone!!! I have lived here for a few years now and I must say Management is a step up from the previous 5 or 6 that were here. They still need some work! I cant wait till all of that construction is done though and the carpet my goodness! If thats one thing I hate its that god awful carpet!Anyways if you are one that likes to look at reviews before renting if you dont mind the construction you should have no problems unless you cant afford the rent!!!

you could not pay me to sign a new lease
everything is wrong. it is so loud! they will tell u they are doing a few renovations! lies. they will be done in two years. there are about 30 construction worker wondering around the property between 7 am and 5pm. The noise is not bearable especially when you just want to sleep in past 7am. the service is not helpful. renovations can not just consist of a new coat of paint! this place is falling apart. when something goes wrong DO NOT expect for it to get fixed, ever. i wish i would have found this site before moving in last month. oh and they use a temp agency up front so when they tell you inaccurate information they say oh well that person doesn't work here. best of luck!

If you read this and still move here you're a moron. (BTW I'm a moron)
Yep, read these reviews and thought, well I don't know what the fuk I thought, but got what I deserved. While you can say "at least the upgrades make the apartment nicer." that is true, but you will still have to deal with the moron-after-moron management. They spent $100 million for this building, well above it's current value. Guess who gets to pay for that. Plus you get to pay the salary of morons, so now you know where your ridiculous rent check goes. There is some eye candy but they're skanks for the most part and 73% are either current or near term drug addicts. I know that was harsh but move in and tell me it's not true. I could go on for hours but all the other posts have already covered everything. Here is an example of the idiocy you will be dealing with if you move here. They spent 5 months and counting (it will end up being the entire summer) renovating the roof, one of the only really nice things about this building. The roof has a great view. I saw that the door to the roof was open so I went to check it out. These fuk-heads spent 5 months putting in one built in barbecue and put tall F'ing plants in front of the view. The minds of -------- children could do better. Good luck. Don't rationlize moving here because you have a dog or some sht. Find another place or just lie about having a dog at another building like everyone else does.

Don't move here.
This place is horrible. It is loud and dirty. The renovations have been going on for nearly 2 years. So there is always loud sounds and debris around. Some of the hallways smell like trash because waste is not always disposed of properly...either by tenants or the bldg. The apartments are basic and the management staff is below average. You would get better customer service from a state dept, like the DMV, than this complex. Keep looking, this place is a dump.

Serravella never learns. Just keep doing what you want, be selfish about your needs, and ignore your tenants. The company is a joke - and too bad, because it's expensive.

I am a current a resident at SERAVELLA, I've been living here for the past 4 months. To anyone interested in leasing an apartment here; BE WARNED. The buiding is undergoing serious renovations and they are not nearly done. The noise level during the morning and daytime are unbearable; there's constant drilling and banging and not to mention, my water gets turned off at least ONCE A WEEK! Calling the office to complain is useless, they pretend to listen and of course, do nothing about it. Messages left on the message bank go unanswered. The management is more interested in leasing out all the renovated empty apartments, so they can kick all the original tenants (with the unrenovated apts) out as soon as the lease ends. My experience living here has been horrible! I am a paying tenant (and the rent is NOT CHEAP) and living at Serravella has been nothing but a nuisance. P.S My car was broken into in the garage...What I want to know...Where the hell was security? Again...everyone employed at Serravella...USELESS.

Not Worth It
We have lived at Serravella for two years. We have been through ALL the different renovations and all the different management companies and this building is totally not worth it. The location is the best part of the building, but not worth the price. The hot tubs never work, people have stolen equipment out of the gym, the elevators are ALWAYS broken. We couldn't even get internet in our apartment because Seravella refused to rewire their old utility closet. Definately not worth the price... you can find much better places out there with a lot more space.

New managment, same old incompetence!
I wish I could say that with a new management everything changed and looks better but unfortunately not. The new team is really concerned about leasing all the empty apartments in the buildings and focusing on towing cars parked in wrong spots that they don't pay any attention to the dirty carpets on hallways, courtyards smelling like dog with dog crap everywhere and specially during the weekends the overflowing trash cans and smelly elevators, it's really a disappointment! Things haven't changed, noise is a serious problem, people come in and out from the parking lot door that never works, there is no security during the day or night to stop anybody from getting into the building and it takes weeks/months for them to fix broken things, of course that's if they even notice. Sadly this new management is not on top of things, don't move to Serravella, keep looking!

Apartments and cars broken into!!! Run away!!
No security during day time, front doors always open, no camaras on the hallways or stairs and the elevators never work two days in a row. I am currently living here, I am afraid I would loose a lot of my deposit (wich I can't afford)if I break my lease so I am waiting until is finished of course living with the fear of another intruder. Two apartments were broken into on August, mine was one of them. Laptops and ipods were taken. Of course managment didn't do ANYTHING about it eventhough we reported that the doors of both apartments were NOT forced at all!!! The intruders even took the time to lock the doors of both apartments on their way out, can you believe that??? Don't move here, IS NOT SAFE AT ALL!

Horrible!
They keep sending notices about how they're going to enter your apartment when you're not present to do "repairs". They should allow residents to schedule appointments. The construction was a nightmare and unneccessary. The elevators still break down all the time and the water heater never works. It takes forever for security to tell people to turn down their loud music at night. The rent has been increased to an unreasonable amount. They allow people with large dogs to live here. The people in the rental office are unhelpful and not very sympathetic to your problems. Don't rent here!!!

Run as fast as you can!!
This place was covered in dog crap, all in the hallways and elevators. It was so noisy I couldn't sleep. The courtyards are all cement so it echos straight into your bedroom windows. The maintence never fixes anything and the management changes faces every month. I am a decent renter and this is the worst place I have ever rented. Save yourself!!! And if you are there, you can leave. They don't prosecute.

Keep Looking!
I lived in Serravella for four years...yeah that's right, four years. In those years I experienced more than I ever imagined. I reported bums sleeping in the stairwells, how did they get into a gated community? Good question. I had many sleepless nights listening to partying and music and people in the pool at all hours including being woken up by two guys and a girl having a threesome in the hot tub. I found a security guard sleeping on the bench in the gym one morning when I went to work out...how safe is that? Prostitutes propositioning my friend as he left the building...Great!!! The last two months of my lease I was staying elsewhere...I didn't sleep there one night out of those two months. I came home one day to an eviction notice on my door. When I inquired about this at the office they said that my neighbor had reported a raging party that lasted until 4am...that's funny since I hadn't even been to the apartment for an entire week. They said that the security guard came to my door the night of the party and no one answered...maybe that's because I wasn't home...duh! All he would have to do is go out to the court yard to see where all the noise was coming from. All it takes is common sense. The last straw was when I came home and all the items from my balcony had been removed, and the items were<br>no where to be found. Apparently someone came into my apartment, removed my items and stored them on the roof where they got rained on and damaged. At that point I was so over this apartment complex and I was so greatful that I was moving out. Bottom line is that it is way too expensive, way too noisy, and way too trashy for me. I'm glad to be a home owner now :)

i lived at Serravella for a year and a half. the second month i lived there, my air conditioning started to leak, i reported it, and supposedly they had fixed it.... i had called 3 or 4 times, and it hadn't been fixed. LA this summer was hot, so i had to learn how to live with a waterfall in my hallway in an overpriced apartment with a bad water heater and faulty ventilation.... im in the process of withholding rent.... oh yeah, my track ligts are hanging from one side....

It sucks.. but you can break your lease!!
I lived there... had ALL of the same problems you guys are venting. Ignorant, absent management.. loud, intrusive construction... negligent pet owners... anyway, one day I grew incredibly angry, marched down to the office and let them know that I felt the construction came without any warning to the tenants. That I felt tricked into signing a lease for something I did not expect. And that the last straw was when I woke up in the morning to find all of the items on my balcony crammed into the closet and plastic taped up all over WITHOUT any prior written notice about this. Anyway, the point is.. management couldn't really say anything because I was completely right. They understood and let me out of me lease with just a 30 days notice. If you want to leave and feel like your lease keeps you locked in.. talk to the office, you should be able to get it with no penalties. Hope that helps..<br>And that msizzy4u chick who keeps responding to posts.. most likely, that is a Serravella employee. read "her" responses to posts. That should give you some insight on what you are about to get into if you are considering moving here. Or maybe just a total loser who desperately needs a paying gig.

Absolutely Pathetic
Please spare yourself the trouble. There is nothing else that can be said. This place has been under construction for months with no rent reduction. If I didn't have a dog, I would have left a long time ago. I have never been so angry with a place in my entire life. I happen to know that multiple lawsuits are on the way and that should tell you enough. I am a young, easy going person who likes to have a good time and I am telling you to STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!

Below is a comment someone wrote on the forum. Whoever wrote this is so right on! This is EXACTLY how it is here. I was going to write my own but thought that this comment well deserved to be on the main page. I hope they don't mind! I also want to point out that the person referred to as the "receptionist" doing her makeup is actually one of the managers. As for the main manager, well, he's a joke as well, straight from the ------. Absolutly no professionalism whatsoever. Has no support for us residents who live here. The responses....probably from the staff....state that if we don't like it we should just move! Yea! So they can charge us thousands of dollars in fees for breaking our lease? Especially those of us who renewed our lease before the construction started??? Yes, some of us do have a choice not to stay. But those of us locked in a lease don't! <br>Here is the comment posted on the forum. Kudos to the person who wrote it!<br><br>"The management isn't going to do anything. I went into their office to complain the other day. First off, the office was locked causing me to wait. The staff wanders in a half hour late. The receptionist was doing her makeup when I walked in. She ignored me for a few minutes and then piped up: "Oh, did you want something?" No. I was just standing here like a statue to entertain you. Moron. The general attitude of the staff is horrible. All they want is our cash, they don't give a damn about their tenants. <br><br>Everytime something happens it takes them forever to fix it. When I asked them to send maintenance (sink flooding the bathroom & kitchen) they sent a cleaning woman to fix the problem. Uh, I don't have a problem cleaning up water. I have a problem stopping floods. Of course, you cannot reach maintenance or management by phone at all (everything goes to voicemail). Nothing was done until I called (from work mind you) the next day and screamed in the receptionists' ear. <br><br>So far, I've had issues with the construction workers that drop things on my patio and don't clean them up (i.e. Tar, black water, Globs of Cement, Cigarette Butts, and random garbage). When the drilling started they began on the wall outside my apartment with a jackhammer. This of course caused the walls in my apartment to crack and fling chunks of material around the room. The manager said he'd look into it and get back to me. That was a month ago...not a single word. <br><br>This of course has nothing to do with the usual noise. Which mainly amounts to a bunch of immature drunken residents and thier guests. They stumble around and slam doors all night. It's worse than living in a dormitory. I'm a regular person with a 9-5 job (actually it's an 8-6 job). I shouldn't have to complain to management constantly about noise and things falling apart. <br><br>It seems that no matter what we say or do, our requests are ignored by management. The tenants need to from some kind of committee. Management is supposed to stand up for their tenants, not jerk us around like this."

Disapointing
I moved in in August of 2005 when the building was under a different management company. All was great and rent price was reasonable until one day the building was sold to another company with out informing anyone. The only reason I figured it out was because everyone in the office was different. Then when the lease was up it took them two months to write up a new one. Then of course they raised the rent $100 and falied to disclose that the entire building was going to be under major construction. So I now over pay to live in a crappy construction zone. Constantly live in a mess. The new paint looks terrible and the hall way colors look like a two year old picked them out. I am counting down the days til my lease is up and I am outta here!

I lived in serravella for a few months last summer and I sublet my apartment there and lived in it for another few months earlier this year. I really liked the building. I want to buy a condo in that building. They are selling condos and I think that they are cheap. The only downside is that when ever my friends would park on the street they had a hard time finding parking, but that's there problem not mine. I would definately recommend serravella and the rent is pretty reasonable as well.

construction is a mess its loud and a horrible place to live
if you are considering to move here do not do it. The people are nice in the office until you move in, afterwhich it is all about you paying the rent. If you are off during the week then there is no relaxation because of the contiuous loud construction going on. Ask them when the pool will be available because of right now in the 1710 building the pool is dirty and covered because of the construction. Try other locations if you are looking for a apartment don not move here!! listen to this advice.
