mgmt. will screw you in any way they can once you sign your lease. DONT DO IT! They dont fix things like they should, they dont want to spend money updating the apartments, only the office and clubhouse They should be fixing heaters and a/c but they dont want to put money into it. The buildings are gross. Management isnt focused on residents and making them happy, they are focused on making a profit and dont care if someone is unhappy. They also make it hard to get your security deposit back, they try to charge you for things that they cant and they treat everyone different, if they like you they help you but if they dont like you good luck! They dont follow fair housing laws..............Please get a new mgmt company and save Eastland!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has been BY FAR THE WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! I wish I had came to these reviews before putting my trust in such an unprofessional establishment!! In fact, the night before I was given advice on this place from an old tenant and boy do I wish I had taken heed to their WARNING!!! It has been less than a month and I have had more problems then one can imagine... I'll go into detail at a later date but for now lets just say I am doing whatever I can to get these careless, unprofessional people out of office because they obviously don't have the slightest clue what they are doing!!!!

Just about every issue in all the posts since the new owners took over, take place in all of these bldgs. No venting here, the office staff seem not to care "after the sale" and the workers seem to do only enough to get by and to keep costs down. The lists are very, very long and true. Fire alarms going off frequently in a few buildings. Some tenants have multiple families living with them long term. One guy hinted of not using our grills any longer due to new city rules? Waiting for that bombshell from the staff. Are you curious about the grills placed in the green spaces a long time ago? Look up the company, they took in over 1/2 mil last year and major improvments were a waste. IE:sealed the asphalt through out but in a year it is far worse now. Saving $$ by cutting exterior lighting sounds safe for people? Laundry room are trashed often and the leased machines are crap. Perhaps with all the new money from raising rent 4-12% they will hire some office staff and workers who care? You don't want to live here if you can help it. We are out soon as well!!

Upon first moving into my unit (which I was not permitted to see until AFTER I signed the lease), I was quite disappointed with the upkeep of the property. Very old appliances (the oven dial's labels have worn off, everything is a dingy white/yellow), the kitchen counter could actually be lifted off its base, etc. The cupboard space in the kitchen is horrible; there isn't anywhere that will fit a large bottle or even a cereal box. The between-residents painters were lazy: there were several patches that were not painted. All that was quickly overlooked in the following month or so as the location was incredibly peaceful. My unit was at the very back of the complex, overlooking a large wooded area. The sounds of the birds in the trees was very peaceful and you could often see rabbits, deer and other wildlife milling about. I was also impressed with how pet-friendly they are here. There are a lot of tenants with dogs that are encouraged to walk them outside (they even provide space for doggy business). However, with a $300 non-refundable pet deposit (for cats and dogs) plus an additional $50 per month, bringing a pet here is incredibly expensive. However, as time went on, I began to see just how horrible this place really is. There is apparently no cleaning staff here; I have been here almost a year now and the building I am in has only been vacuumed once. Walking in the main entrance, you're immediately greeted with cobwebs/spider webs on literally every surface. The carpet is dirty and littered with debris. The dungeon-like laundry room has old dryer lint and spiders in ever corner (not to mention I'm the only tenant that cleans the dryer filter after use...gross). Then there's the maintenance department. I have had water leaking through my ceiling from the unit above FOUR times now and the maintenance department has still not fixed the leak that they've identified as being my neighbor's shower. The toilet has been broken since I moved in and doesn't always flush unless I open the lid and reattach the chain and paperclip (leftover from a previous "repair") myself. The aforementioned floating countertop is still floating. My door latch often sticks and doesn't latch, which is an obvious security issue. All of these issues have been reported at least once and maintenance came out while I was at work and left a note saying everything was fixed; no, it wasn't. Several wasps nests and spiders everywhere. Granted, living next to a wooded area, some pests are expected. However, the maintenance department does nothing to allay the concerns of tenants. And while this isn't indicative of every unit, my current neighbors in the apartment above me are unbelievably noisy! Their children literally run around, bouncing balls, banging on the walls and play incredibly loud music at all hours of the day and night. Several arguments, running up and down the stairs, throwing trash off their balcony, even spitting from their balcony onto my roommate. Daily knocks on my door at any time of the day or night, begging for cigarettes or rides. When I went to the office to actually lodge a complaint about the noise, I was told that I should say something to them myself or write up a written complaint about it. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to antagonize someone that obviously knows exactly where I live and what my schedule is. Overall, the place is a nice peaceful location, but due to apathetic staff, I can't recommend it to anyone! The fact that I feel dirty just walking in the unsecured main entrance of my building is enough for me to not consider renewing my lease.

------! ------! ------! I have lived here for years and cannot believe how downhill this place has gone. I am finally moving out and never coming back. The new management is god awful. They keep raising the rent but these old crappy apartments aren't even remodeled. People love to work on their cars out in the parking lot all the time. I've had bottle caps flicked at me one time from these people and they even made cat calls. You would think this place was quiet since it's set back from East Paris but people now drive through at all times of the night waking people up with their music. This new management does nothing about complaints. The police are in here all the time. This place is nothing like what the Eastland website portrays it. There's a good reason they have so many available apartments on their new website. Don't bother with this place. Move somewhere you actually get some sleep at night.

I cant go into deatil, as I still have 50 weeks of my lease left. Thats 2 weeks living here. Do NOT do NOT do NOT move here! I will leave details when I can get the heck out! Pretty sure I have grounds to break my lease already, but since I gave them all my money to move in, I cant afford too. Only perks, cute dude I ran into in the awful laundry room and central air. That is all. Update: Since living here, they have come into my apartment without notice 5 times, if im home, or not. They shut the water off one day in the middle of the afternoon without notice, while I was in the shower. I have had to ask multiple times for appliance repair that still hasnt been done. The county did an inspection and noted multiple issues (I emailed them for results) that they still have not addressed. This place is a dump, ------, not safe or clean. Do not move here!

We moved into this complex only because we needed a place as soon as possible and they could get us in quickly. BIG MISTAKE. The FIRST day in our place, the screen to the slider fell off (as soon as I opened the door), the furnace was broken, a towel rack fell off the wall when I laid a towel over it and the next day we realized our garbage disposal was broken. We don't even use the dish washer anymore and since then, mostly everything has broken down once or twice. If you don't mind: -Puke being left in the halls from the drunk man a week ago. -Marijuana aroma seeping through the air vents and lingering in the hallways. -Cigarette butts and dog crap all through the yards. -Unprofessional staff. -Cops here often. -Fires from appliances that date past your grandmother. -Laundry machines that don't work half the time you use them. -High rent (for the quality) and no amenities. Then this is a good place for you!

To all of you at Eastland apartments. You are all horrible disgusting people. My Sister died in her apartment. You all were very rude, and had no sympathy. My niece and nephew were going through hell. You wouldn't let them into her apartment. You tried to extend as long as you could to get another month's rent. How can you be so heartless and cruel? These kids lost their mother in a very violent way. And all you did was give them ---- and try to refrain from letting them in to collect her belongings. And to top it off, you wont even give my sister's deposit back to the kids. Heartless bunch of ------- -------.

WOW...and not in a good way! My fiance and I recently visited Eastland Apartments with high hopes for the place based on what we had seen of their website, but don't let it fool you. Before making our visit I looked at reviews of the apartments online and read how almost everyone complained about the new management as well as the maintenance but decided I would wait to believe it till I saw it. Upon first entering the office, my initial reaction was, wow, this is a nice office; recently updated and very well maintained. The staff member that showed us around was nice but didn't have much to say about the apartments, more was just curious about our lives. Thankfully it wasn't too cold out since we had to walk at least 4 buildings over in order to see their "model" apartment. As we walked we noticed some people had put safety bars on their windows and on one building the soffit (the part under the overhang of the roof) was all broken and ripped apart. After entering the building I quickly noticed the very narrow stairway and hallways as well as there was no lighting! Being a girl, that really freaked me out. The staff member opened the door to the apartment and holy crap..I don't think I have seen a more run down, trashy apartment. There were stains on almost every inch of the carpet, the kitchen cupboards were almost ready to fall out of the ceiling and I could literally see almost an inch of nail showing. If anyone decided to put a plate in the cupboard, I can promise you they would fall to the ground. Another negative about the apartment the staff member showed us was he claimed it was 900 sq ft. I'm sorry but there was no way, he had to have been mistaken. It was so small and cramped I don't think it could have passed for more than 600 sq ft. We quickly walked through and decided we had seen enough. We headed back to the office and said our goodbyes. My thought leaving was if they had kept up and maintained their apartments the way their just updated office was, they might have gotten us as residents. So for those of you looking to rent at Eastland Apartments, don't waste your time. Those of you already renting there...I'm sorry for you and I hope you can get out soon! Since, we have found a way nicer apartment community in the same price range with very friendly staff and awesome amenities and we couldn't be more thrilled. Happy hunting and I hope my review helped!

My husband and I moved here in January and we love it so far. We've looked at a few apartments around the Kentwood area and this was definitely the best for the price, we only pay electric and we have a cat. Staff is really helpful, while we were here the apartment came under new management and they updated the pool and tennis courts. The grounds are coming together, there was some slack in work while the changes were happening but we barely noticed. Maintenance is really good about taking care of things pretty fast. Once in a while we've had a problem and we've had to wait but the majority of the time they come within a day. Regarding safety, no problems at all. Sometimes our neighbors get rowdy and get loud but other than that it's really quiet. I even work out during the day and no one has yelled at me from below us so I think the buildings are fairly soundproofed. Only thing we haven't been happy with is the laundry facilities. They aren't top quality (at least in our building), they're cheap but sometimes the dryers don't get everything dry the first time. I think a lot of people do laundry off-site and we started doing it at a friends so hasn't inconvenienced us too badly!

Uncleanly Units, Rude and Unhelpful Management
Again as stated by others, this place has gone from bad to worse since the management change. Rent has been increased, and of course they have offered no additional amenities for having to pay more. I was told by ------- "Well, if you resign the lease, we will give you a complementary carpet clean"... Landco did that before they took over, so I asked what else she had to offer. No response. I don't know what happened recently around my unit, but I can NEVER park in front of my building anymore, and why bother calling the office about it? They won't help or do anything. Before management switched over, there used to be a cleaning crew that I believe stopped by each building 2-3 times per week, cleaning the hallways and vacuuming. Pretty sure that hasn't been done since March. The hallways are absolutely disgusting. I can only imagine that in the Winter the roads won't get plowed like they once used to, which is extremely dangerous because of that steep hill when entering and exiting. The employees and management have no source of organization skills or professionalism, as I was sent a court order in the mail from unpaid rent... when I paid it.

very displease
So its not just me that finds both new managers unprofessional and not helpful in the least bit, I've been making noise complaints about the neighbor above me since well before they took over and than started again with the management company and still nothing has been done about it and its been three months since they have taken over and I have it all in writing on the complaints and the promises that something would be done about it. I even requested they move me to another building, which funny was offered the first two times I complained and then when I told them to find me another apartment they were suddenly full and didn't have another apartment for me. I don't think I will be renewing my lease with them when it is up. I lived here from 1997 to 2000 and never had a bit of problem with the staff at all, any complaint or problem was taken care of promptly and in 2010 when I moved back into the complex I didn't have a bit of problem with any complaint not being taken care of or addressed and now it seems there is nothing but problems. Found it rather interesting how the letter from the new company stated they wanted to make it a better community and a better place to live but yet I've seen more complaints from residence who live here.

not what I expected
This apartments are HORRIBLE maintenance for one is horrible they don't see the problem as a whole just what can I fix and get out, when I moved here the carpet was dirty, the closet shelves were disgusting, the kitchen was dirty too, everything was so bad, we told the office and never addressed the problem, parking is so limited, and also the entrance to the parking area is so bad that it feels like my suspension is about to give up on my car. I get other people to park in my designated parking space, and nothing is done about it, the people from the top apartment smoke and I get their cigarette butts and ashes on my porch, this apartments aren't not what I expected I thought they were better and better quality. YUCKS TO EASTLAND!!!!!

You can place a thousand signs with happy messages and promise to upgrade apartments to tenants all you want...but crappy management is terrible service IS unprofessionalism at its BEST. after management change, I decided that i liked Eastland enough to stay, and that was my FIRST mistake. I had been on a "waiting list" for a year for a larger apartment, and when the new management took over, i was told "there was no waiting list, we actually dont have any of your information at all..."as in, didnt know the apartment had me in it.so i was put on another list with new management, and guaranteed the correct apartment. in fact, something was opening within 2 months! too good to be true. When this apartment came about, after i had spoken with both ------- and the higher manager, and guaranteed the correct unit, of course, i wasn't. Not the right unit, number of bathrooms, floor plan...and they'd known that. Response? "What's wrong with it?" With attitude. Well...its the WRONG apartment."Well we dont have the layout for any of the apartments, so you cant hold us responsible." Wait...what?... This is after ive paid my new deposit, packed, and am sighed to LEAVE my current apartment. "you can either take what we have or leave. I don't make bargains." I decided to leave, they decided to tell everyone who history checked that i was in a lease when i had never sighed a single paper with them since they'd taken over. To top it off, they "lost" my $200 deposit, talked to me like i was a LIAR and had never given it o them, when i had a receipt and a CASHED money order from SOMEONE in that office, and found it 2 months later. "Lost" in their accounting files... Good luck with YOUR decision.

Wow. Time to resign my lease? I think not.
Amazing how terrible the quality of service in the offices is. They just through new management/ownership on the property as of 3/12. I couldn't be any more disappointed. Not only is my rent going up 15%, I've encountered problems left and right with my apartment as of late that have had no action taken by the new management. Ants started to creep in through my vents, and while they did spray for them, it hasn't stopped ants from coming in. My refrigerator has dents from fists, and they refuse to replace it. The oven has broken 4 times, and they keep doing some sort of temporary fix. Every time it breaks, by apartment reeks of gas. Neighbors are occasionally loud, but always loud when it's warm and the kids come out to the pool. ------- in the main office is the real problem. I told her all of this, and asked if my hike in rent would allow them to cover some of these problems. Her response? "Sir, I will not bargain with you. If you want to sign a lease elsewhere, you may." I think I might just do that -------, thank you for your help.

Poor office response
I received a notice in the mail in which I needed to contact the office to resolve. I called them first thing in the morning and was told someone would look into it and call me back. Did not hear back so I called again and once again was told that someone would get back to me by the end of that day. Never heard back. Very unproffesional considering I was told by office staff the problem was on their end and nothing that I did wrong. My experience here has been great, up until now. It is not a bad place to live though if you want any resolution to any issues - dont expect the staff to be on top of it.

Would live here again
Living at Eastland did not start off very well with my apartment not being cleaned or repainted before i moved in but other than that an the ancient cupboards Eastland was a decent place. My neighbors were never too loud and I even had a newborn next door. Rent is a little excessive for what you get. The front desk was great with my problems and requests and I never had a problem with the maintenance. As for security, i saw peoples cars unlocked all the time yet there were no break ins. Walls are a little thin so that takes some getting used to. UPDATE: Obviously I moved before the new management started so I am not sure how helpful my outlook on Eastland is because of that.

Don't do it!!!!
First off I would like to say that Eastland has some very nice apartments which is what attracted me right off but I guess you can't judge a book by it's cover. I am accustomed to staying in a place for at least two years. I moved here because we needed more space due to a baby coming and we were on a time crunch. The apartments are well kept including the lawn. My complaint is the residents and staff. There are loud neighbors who don't care about being loud because the staff does not do anything about it. I have called time after time and all they say is that they will check into it and nothing ever happens. Loud surround sound systems, yelling, fights, police being called. This is what you will have to deal with. Maintenance is also poor. The few times that we have had to call they took forever to come and one time they didn't come at all. Totally different than what I'm use to. Bottom line is if you want a place with a good maintenance staff and peace and quiet don't come here!!! I will not be renewing my lease here.

Pretty good
I lived at Eastland for 4 yrs in a loft apartment. The building was a bit older and had some issues like the door hinge to the outside door not holding very well. The roof did also leak once and was never realy taken care of. But when the bathroom toilet broke and spilled a ton of water into my downstairs at 11pm the maintence was over right away. The rent was really affordable, so you get what you pay for. The neighbors were all very nice and kept to themselves. We lived on the 3 rd floor and would barely ever have any issues with noise. Safe and quiet. It's right by 28th st which is a main street but you are tucked back in the woods so it's pretty quiet. There are also lot's of green spaces to enjoy and a nice walking trail behind the apartments in the woods. We had 750 sq feet and a loft area that was so unique. I haven't been able to find another place as cheap for the unique space or amount of space for that matter. It seems like all of the apartments I have looked at are all the same but Eastlands 2 bedroom and their loft layout was so refreshing. Would definitely reccomend for anyone with a family or just getting an apartemnt for the first time.

Disappointing
Rent is relatively low, but you get what you pay for, I guess. In the oldest complex, the parking is cramped, insufficient, and unsafe with lots of crumbling pavement and broken glass. Lots of trash and cigarette butts on the grounds, which are definitely nothing special. Lots of noise from apartments above and below, but not so much from those next to yours or across the hall. Lots of loud socializing and smoking in the hallways. No "Quiet Please" signage in the hallways. Not the most polluted section of town but also not the cleanest. Old Rheem furnaces are inefficient and very noisy. Electricity and A/C are very pricey; basically just the gas, water and trash are included. Outdoor lighting is often in need of repair. No warning paint on edges of steps of exterior concrete stairways. Hallways and stairs are narrow (over-stuffed furnishings will not fit), with unsafely carpetted interior stairs. Washer and dryer have only worked occasionally in over three months. Interior construction and layout okay. Paying rent online is not free. Maintenance has proven on multiple occasions to be nearly impossible to contact and unresponsive. The staff are currently in transition, now, but they have been very difficult to contact in the last eight months. No one answers and often the answering system is too full to take a message. If you leave a message, it sometimes takes over a week for someone to respond, if at all. I hope this improves, but I am not too hopeful. Seriously considering paying the lease-break fee and moving!

Our return
We returned to Eastland in Dec. of 2010 after an un-desired year away from our favorte town. Throught our whole process of coming back, Shawn has been awesome. I've worked with her several other times for things as well and she's always provided exemplary customer service. From the day we stopped in to alert the office of our desire to move back and up-grade to a larger apartment, we were put on a VIP list for the apt w/ our desired square-footage. As soon as our desired apt was available, she contacted us and hooked us up. The size of the apt for our money is AWESOME!!! I will say, however that we have had to file a couple formal complaints on neighbors for excessive noise. SADLY, on one occasion after-hours maintenence was called and did not actually address the problem - he simply stood in the hall and said he heard nothing - that's probably because he didn't come - I waited for the truck and watched for someone to come. Furthermore, it is frustrating to have people driving through the parking lots with their bass as loud as it can get; I am not a fan of having my house shake - particularly at 11:30pm, but anytime is really innapropriate to do that. I did not experience that when I lived in the other two buildings on the property. There is also a neighbor close to me that smokes weed. I have reported that once as well and hope I don't need to again. I know the staff screens everyone the same, but there are some people who put on a pretty good front and just haven't gotten caught being dumb yet. The only other request I would really make is that buildings be separetd into smoking and non-smoking buildings. Overall, however, I've been pleased with the quieter location of the property, the size of our home, and Shawn's STELLAR customer service. :) Even when she's had a rough day, she has a smile for her tenants. :) Thanks, Shawn. :)

Turn away!
Moved into Eastland back in '06. Just turned 18 and needed to get out on my own. Eastland was the cheapest decent looking apartment in Kentwood. They were no ------ people sitting on porches, very few jankty looking cars, no litter on the ground. My how things have changed. I feel like I am living in YORK CREEK now. People yelling loudly at their hood rat kids across the way, the constant smell of weed in the halls, loud cars bumpin their subs at all hours of the night, and people throwing fast food bags and all sorts of stuff on the ground. The ladies in the office, excluding Shawn, are -------. I've been lied to and treated like crap from them. They definitely give you the run-around. Maintenance sucks. Took them months, close to a year, to fix stuff on my work order. 4 guys came in once to fix something, did a half-assed job. They obviously don't know what work is. Half the time, you'll see them standing around talking to each other in the parking lot. I finally gave up and did stuff my self. I stayed until now, 2010, only because I am still young and rent is fairly cheap. Don't expect to get much from this place. Finally moving into a house soon :)
