The Staff
we haven't even moved into the apartment yet and already love it. The staff has been so friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable that they have made the decision to move there that much easier. Willing to help in anyway they can. Daisy was our rep and she's been amazing from beginning to end. We can't wait to spend a year here and be treated like real people who actually matter.

Love it!
Eastland is so far one of the best apartments I have lived in. The apartment is layed out nice, with enough storage space... and plenty of parking available. Haven't had any issues with noisey neighbors and no safety concerns. The staff is great...special thanks to Shawn in the office for being ever so helpful over the summer and making the move go smoothly!

Decent place
I was a resident of Eastland Apartments for about 9 months (from August 2009 to May 2010). I moved out because I decided to buy a condo. My overall impression of the place was "decent." The apartments are not luxury-oriented by a longshot, in fact, sort of dumpy at times. The apartments didn't have washer/dryer in-unit, but each building had a laundry room with coin-operated machines to avoid going outside in the colder months with all your laundry. However, the landlord was always prompt to respond to any issues with items in the apartment along with replacing appliances at times when they broke. The main office staff were also very friendly and open to any questions that I had. The apartment is cheaper in rent than many other apartment complexes in Kentwood (and the GR area) and that results in some trashy people taking up residence there. I was fortunate to not be near one of these noisy apartments but walking through the hallway sometimes, you could definitely hear some people playing their music a little too loud a little too late at night. The Kentwood neighborhood in general has declined in terms of quality of life so that also should be a factor in deciding whether to live at Eastland. However, the apartment did have a good location if you want to be close to all the shopping on 28th Street. Overall, I don't regret living there and Eastland is a good 'transitional' apartment complex to live in for about about a year or so while finding a more 'permanent' apartment or saving up money to buy a house/condo. 7/10

EXCELLENT! I never want to leave!
I have lived here at Eastland for almost a year and at their sister apartment, Burton's Landing, for about 6 months. At Eastland, I spent 8 months in a studio and it was a steal. I now live in a Loft apartment. It is AMAZING! The neighbors are quiet and respectful. The maintenance people are friendly and safe. The office staff--especially SHAWN CRITES--are great. Hands down, you need to have Shawn and no one else as your leasing agent. She bends over backwards for you to help you get the best place, the best deal, the fastest, most knowledgeable service and to make your move to your new home less stressful. The apartment is also on a bus line for easy access for the car-less. The area is family friendly and the outdoor pool is utilized by happy children in the summer. The only thing I would change about the apartments is that some of the apartments have older cabinets/closet doors/vanities and cheaper materials used for the bath tub surround. Overall, I feel like this is the best deal in Grand Rapids/Kentwood!

Great Apartments
The apartments at Eastland are really nice. When getting in I dealt with Shawn in the leasing office and I feel that she went above and beyond in helping me out. First she got me approved, then after a couple weeks of dealing with my indecisiveness (always with a smile I might add), she helped me with all the paperwork and helped me get everything in order. She's GREAT, and very down to earth. If anyone is looking to move to Eastland, I would say talk to her. I've been here three days and the community is a really nice place to be.

Good apt - some drawbacks but manageable
These apartments are great, and have treated us well but there are pros & cons, of course. I have a 1 bedroom Cons: My apt in particular has no garbage disposal, carpeted kitchen, paperthin walls, and no water temperature balance when your taking a shower so there are fast changes from hot to cold. If you recycle, there are no convenient recycling options and the parking lot can get trashy because people don't treat it well. The bathrooms are really tiny but you can get by. No washer/dryer. Pros: Close to 2 malls and tons of places to eat. If you want to go downtown, a $20 taxi ride will get you there. Free water and heat, and a great community pool, and a walk-in closet. Cats are allowed anywhere. But, after a year of living here, you're definitely going to want to move. I suggest this place for short-term living.

Best short term lving
When my husband and I were transfered to Grand Rapids from Saint Louis, we needed to find a short term apartment to stay in. Living 600 miles away could have proved to be a HUGE speed bump, and my husband had to get up there quickly. The office staff at Eastland couldn't have been more helpful and flexible, especially Shawn Crites! She worked with us over phone email and fax to make sure everything was set the day he had to be in Grand Rapids. The furnished apartment was exactly what we needed. Not high end furniture but not trash either. Maid service for the towels and sheets was included in the rent as well as all the utilities. The complex was fairly quiet for apartments and is within 5 miles of shopping and restaurants. Overall, I would definately recommend Eastland apartments as a terrific place to live short or long term!! Enjoy!

Eastland Apartments
I just moved into Eastland Apartments and the staff has been AMAZING and SO WELCOMING! The facilities/amenities are clean and up to date. One of the staff members, Holly in particular, has been so helpful with my move and had patience with me and made time for all my questions seeing as though it was my first time living alone. Holly made my move in experience easy, fast and stress free! I HIGHLY recommend this apartment complex!

awful, absolutely awful
Holly and the other staff's graciousness and kindness cannot really cover up how ------ these apartments really are. I have been consistently sick with upper respiratory problems from the mold and poor ventilation. The apartments true colors were definitely revealed when I found that water was leaking into my kitchen, soaking the carpet and creating more mold. It took maintenance months to even admit there was a problem. Then, they ripped out the toilet, cabinet, and all 5 layers of linoleum. Even the plumbers who came to fix the problem said this was disgusting. Months later, the water is still leaking into the kitchen. If money wasn't such an issue, I would definitely get mold remediation myself. It's obvious that they do not truly care about the health and safety of their tenants, but more about how much money they can get from you. Also, be prepared to notice that water is constantly coming thru the windows, and the walls are extremely re-patched (poorly, I might add). And its a good thing heat is free, because you have to keep it cranked all winter to even keep a minimally acceptable temperature. Be prepared to hear whatever your neighbors are doing, whether that be slamming the door, vacuuming, doing dishes, having loud obnoxious sex, or even hearing their cell phone ring. I guess with all the money you save, you can buy some really nice noise-canceling headphones.

I like it here.
I have been at Eastland for two and a half years now. It's been great. The location is good, the people are great. I recently decided to downsize to a studio from a loft. Shawn and Holly had to jump through some major hoops to make it all good for me and they came through fantastically. I have no complaints at all.

I found this place to be very inviting and in expensive. I called and made an appointment for the next day i was in and out within a half an hour and Shawn called me back later that day to tell me i was approved and could move in that thursday. the apartments are clean and nice and quiet. I even recommended a friend 2 weeks later and now he will be moving into burton's landing the sister apartments to Eastland. So far im very impressed with my decision and i dont feel that it will be changing anytime soon. Shawn was extremely helpful and very friendly. She does a good job and helps you find exactly what you need. However i am very upset about the bed bug problem that my building has had for about 4 months. they have bitten me very badly and the fact that we had to have 3 treatments one of which a new company come out to deal with this. i hope the bugs are finally gone because its been one hell of a few stressful months.

Amazing.
I have lived here 6 months and it has been great. The staff is SO wonderful. After a loud night of music playing by my neighobrs, I went to complain and the office ladies told me any time I have a probably contact the emergency maintaince. The next time it happened, the guy showed up 30mins later and told them to quite down. Every other encounter I have had with the staff has been terrific! No complaints there. While I had reservations at first, it turned out to be a wonderful place to live. Relatively no noise, traffic or disturbances. I face the woods and I love it - I even saw a deer run by! I will say that the apartments are older (built in the 70's), but they're pretty clean and seem to be well built. It's not brand new stuff, but there is a dishwasher! The only reason I'm leaving is because I really want a washer and dryer... these apartments only have coin operated. I will say that they have plenty of coin operated machines (with a whole building full for your convience), but I would prefer my own in my apartment. I recommend this to anyone and everyone! I'm a single girl on my own and haven't had a probably with safety or any concerns of that nature.

Eastland is Great!
While I wound up not renting at Eastland, I found the staff to be very nice and very professional. They performed my background check very well. I loved the grounds, and everything looked really nice. I had parked a bit away from the office by mistake, and another tenant out for a walk directed me to the office. I did look at the apartment I was going to rent, and though it was a little small (studio), it was really nice. I also was shown a model for another type studio they have. I would recommend Eastland to anyone looking for a nice apartment. My circumstances changed which is why I did not take the studio I was intented to take, but I am keeping my sites open to Eastland for the near future.

Working on our third year...
My fiance and I found Eastland apartments in 2007. We were just out of high school, had no rental history, and no credit. Eastland took us in, and it has been home ever since. We started with a loft apartment. Amazing evening sun view that looked out over the tennis court and swimming pool behind our building. The loft was a great starter apartment for us. That particular building had some issues with the water. It was off a lot, but was usually fixed within hours. Our neighbors were great. This summer, we decided it was time for a bit more room. We upgraded into a two bedroom apartment. The transition was so easy. I couldn't be more happy with our new apartment. It has been just under three weeks here, and it's great! Central air (as opposed to the air conditioning unit in the loft), tons more space, great view of the courtyard, vanity in the master bedroom, huge walk-in closet... We had a couple of things that needed fixing as we moved in. Maintenance was out our first day and took care of everything. Shawn was amazing to work with. So helpful, and wanting to do everything she could to make sure we were happy. Eastland is the only complex that I've ever lived in, and I couldn't be happier. I would be happy to spend decades here. =]

New Management...Totally Horrible
After reading another resident's review, I decided to share my experiences. On March 8th, we (my fiance) and I resigned our lease. This was before the new management took over. On March 24th, I had an emergency dealing with our dish washer and our sink (it backed up really bad). Call emergency maintenance and the guy who answered the phone said "Yo", how unprofessional. He then told me he would be right over, well he didn't come until an hour later. When he did come, he did nothing but make a mess (used my towels to clean up the sewer like water), then told my fiance there was nothing more he could do and not to use our sink or dish washer. On March 25th, we had a major flood. The neighbors upstairs ran their dish water and from it, it flooded our kitchen. The same guy came back and used more of our towels and used a wet dry vac to get the water up. Well from it, we had water go into our living room and our hall way. We went in and talked to Theresa (the manager) and Melissa (assist manager) about everything that had happened (it was all on a weekend). They were very rude and unprofessional. They took their time getting someone out to get the water out of our carpet, then it took them forever to get it cleaned. We asked for $100 off our rent for the month because of all the issues, and they were rude about it. Pretty much said that it was our fault that it happened. We asked them to replace the carpet in the hallway/living room because that was were the water sat and we didn't want to have to worry about black mold...well nope. They said that it was too cold outside for mold to grow, and there was NO way they were going to replace the carpet. Even though the company they hired said that we should have it replaced. So after all these issues, we decided to not stay any longer with Eastland. Now they are giving us issues because we "re-newed", but our new lease doesn't start until June 1st and our current lease ends May 31st. They are trying to make us pay for breaking our "lease" that hasn't even started yet! Also in the last week our so, we have found two patches (closet and bathroom) of black mold (aka a discoloration as the work order said). They did a horrible patch job in the closet and they haven't come out yet to fix the bathroom. Also, since the flood our kitchen floor has started to peel up. Not happy here any more at all!

Getting the apartment and signing the lease
Because of a recent separation, I needed an apartment that was small, fast and inexpensive. Holly at Eastland, graciously came to my rescure with a very clean ground floor apartment. I was able to see the apartment and get the credit check going on Saturday and by Wednesday I was approved and signing the lease to move in. Holly was efficient and caring and made the entire process easy and fast. The apartment was also very well cleaned and definitely in move-in condition (which reminds me I need some cleaning supplies ;-) ).

Best Value for the money
I lived at Eastland for 3 years and don't have a bad thing to say about the place, other than that you can hear most everything inside an apt if you stand at the front door. Whenever I had a problem, a service person would be at my door almost immediately. The rate of the apt was unbeatable and the space, although small, served my every purpose. My apt was in the back and it was extremly quiet and low key.

I've lived here for 2 or 3 years and have had a great experience and a great service! Every time that I've come to them with an issue or problem it is taken care of immediately and with great care. The staff are the best and very personable. I've felt very safe here and have loved the quiet atmosphere. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for apartments in our area!
