ISP not so great ...
I'll save my review of CityView until I move out, but it has been pretty good so far. My big complaint is with CityView's only ISP option -- CTC Wireless. I've been stuck with CTC Wireless for over a year now and have lost count of the number of times we've lost our internet connection. There have been regular minor outages that last around 5 minutes, and others that last hours. These minor outages are the most annoying. If you're using any sort of application or service that requires a constant internet connection, any minor loss of connection kills these applications. And by the time you can call their support line, the connection is back up and running. CTC Wireless does offer great upload speeds that other local provides (RoadRunner, Comcast, ...) can't match, but their ability to provide a stable and "always-on" connection is lacking. I had used RoadRunner for several years (since about 2003) prior to CTC, and I honestly don't remember any outages with RoadRunner. I feel that I'm a fairly tech-savy person, and that my issues were not the result of end user error or the computer itself. I have 3 PC's in the apartment, and if one has lost its internet connection, the other two have lost their's as well.

regret
I stayed in CityView for two years from 2006 to 2008. I stayed in a studio apartment. I would not recommend CityView. I will state all the facts and everyone can make up their own mind. For those new residents, read your rental application carefully. The $100 security deposits you pay when you move in are not refundable. And they are going to charge you a lot of fees when you move out. I cleaned up my apartment very well, but they still charged me a lot of cleaning fees. For example, they are currently charging $4 for one burned-out regular 60 W light bulb. And they will threaten to use collection agency if you refuse to pay. I talked to another friend of mine who also stayed there, and he was charged a huge fee too. I was very impressed initially when I moved in. The design of the room, kitchen, whirlpool appliances, and light fixtures are all top-notch. However, one of the major problems is that the building lacks proper insulation; the air condition is not powerful enough to keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I had to call them to replace the air-condition unit in my room but it was still very hot (over 90's). They replaced the unit but it did not resolve the insulation problems. During the winter, my water pipe was frozen whenever outside temperature is below 20's with my air condition running. My advice is to keep some drinking water ready from December to February, and try to spend some time at the Clubhouse if your room is unbearably hot. By the way, my monthly electricity bill routinely goes over $100 dollars.

Very Happy
We love it here. We moved in Nov 2007. I love the design of the inside, bar, kitchen, light fixtures. Staff is always very nice and friendly. Parking isn't the best, but I can always find a place. The landscaping people could do a much better job. The porch is great. We are pretty sure we are going to renew when out lease is up. I really like the little town. It doesn't seem like it is 5 mins. from downtown KC. A lot of police on patrol so I feel really safe.

Supremely Satisfied
Loved this place. Had a studio apartment. Pros: *Great aesthetic interiors and design *Solid building materials *Got issues fixed in a prompt and professional manner *Friendly, reliable staff *Cerner discount and a policy allowing you to break lease if you provide a letter from Cerner saying you have to relocate because of Cerner *Reasonably priced high-speed internet *New fitness facilities and party room *Studios had no one below, above, or on the other side of the wall...so less concern about noisy neighbors Cons: *Minimum 60 days notice for breaking lease. *Cold/Heat Insulation isn't a 100%, there's some leakage of cold air during the winter *If you request a parking space, it has to be for the entire remainder of your lease

I would never recommend this place
I am shocked by the 100% positive feedback on CityView and was compelled to voice my opinion. This is by far the worst place I've ever lived in. Initially, when I first moved in, I was really excited. The interior is very modern with a lofty feel. Very high ceilings, glass block windows in the bathrooms and the light fixtures are extremely modern and attractive. I was just blown away with it's aesthetic appeal. The problem came when it rained. My guest bedroom started leaking one night and I notified the office immediately. It took them several days to make it to the apartment and by that time, the ceiling was falling down. If I could upload pictures, I surely would - it wasn't a pretty site. Eventually, they fixed the ceiling and weeks later, they had roofers come out and redo most all of the apartments' roofs. Apparently, I wasn't the only tenant who had leaks. About a month after the leaking ceiling, I started to notice a moldy smell in my closet. Gradually it became more pungent, so again - I notified the office. They informed me that they'd discovered mold growing inside the outer walls, so they removed parts of the siding and treated it with bleach. Fast forward to the present (5 months later) and now there's another leak - this time, in the bedroom we sleep in. There was a bubble, which I discovered to be water forming, in the wall. What usually happens when water just sits in areas that can't dry out? That's right, MOLD. It's the return of the pungent smell, right on the very wall where our heads lay. Our lease is up very soon and to say that I'm eager to move out would be an understatement. These apartments are built cheap but at first glance, you're so impressed with the nice fixtures and design, you don't realize the poorly constructed building until AFTER you move in. For the money we pay, we shouldn't be experiencing continuous leaks and mold issues. The pool is nice but the hot tub never opened the entire summer. A sign was displayed saying that the hot tub was closed due to it not being approved by the health department. That didn't sound good. One last gripe, which is petty but it was enough for me to say, "let's move". A piece of our side paneling on the kitchen cabinets fell off. Maintenance was called and they came out to put it back on. Rather than adhering it with a liquid gun or some similar product, they hammered it back on with nails. Clearly, nail heads are visible and only leaves me shaking my head and laughing (with sense of humor still intact). ------ fabulous!!! In conclusion, I regret my move to CityView and, at the very least, feel better knowing that I shared my bad experience to inform others who might consider moving here. p.s. I just noticed a place to upload my picture of the ceiling. Uploading now...

Best rental experience I have ever had
I had to move out of town for a job offer in Minnesota recently, or I would have stayed at Cityview longer. Although it is not the cheapest in the area, but that is because it is not only new but excellent value for the money. I had the smallest size unit and there was still tons of room. There was a nice big kitchen instead of the cramped sort that you usually have in an urban apartment. In fact overall it felt like living in a small house instead of an apartment. The maintenance crew is hard working and polite. I see virtually no litter on the grounds. There was some mild construction noise for a while last year as they were still tinkering on the roofs here and there but it looks like that was finished by this summer. The staff has always been so pleasant to me and the response time the few times that I needed maintenance was amazing. There are no secured doors, but the grounds are well-lit and because North Kansas City has a good ratio of police officers to residents, they patrol by often at night and discourage trouble makers. I never felt anything but safe. When I moved in to my place in December 2005, the door was a bit stiff in its frame but nothing that I couldn't live with for a few days. I called Shelby about it from work, figuring since they were a good place it would be fixed in a couple days at most, then when I came home that day, they had already fixed it. Amazing! Give these apartments a try, you will love them and your money will be supporting some people who are really trying to make their tenants comfortable, instead of the indifferent staff that are all too common in the rental market. Maintenance staff is outstanding and has responded immediately to a few minor early problems. The quality of materials are excellent in apartment and now that most of the construction is finished, the grounds are looking better. I feel a sense of privacy and safety here. While living in an apartment results in certain compromises, I believe the most descerning renter would be pleased here if this is the geographic location you seek. Office staff is helpful and responsive.

Why live anywhere else?
No other apartment complex compares to City View! It truly is a wonderful experience. I love all the new appliances, workout facilities (24 hours a day), swimming pool, sand volleyball and the the 3 minute walk to downtown. Just from sitting in our apartment we were able to watch the 4th of July fireworks and the air show at the downtown airport and it is so close to downtown and work. And I don't mind one bit that the police patrol at all hours, it makes me feel safe.

I love this place the only real complaint I would have is the trash being so far away from my actual apartment. Other then that this place and the management team are wonderful, I wish my job was not so far away because I would love to remain here.

North Kansas City's Best Apts, Period!!
City view has the best apartments in Kansas City. I moved here from Florida, looked everywhere. Close distance to Cerner and all the other places, grocery stores etc are so close by.
Staff goes well above and beyond to make you happy and genuinely care about keeping their residents happy. The apartments have all the amenities, washer and dryer, T1 internet line included in the rent. I absolutely love living here. Still do. Other apartments only have half the amenties city view offers and everything is brand new.
Maintanence is good, had no problems with anything and when i had a request, it was taken care of right away.

There's a park close by if you want to go running, library a block away. Since i've been here, i didn't even have to explore Kansas City that much because everything was right there in vicinity that there was no need to leave and explore.

Best Place to Live in Kansas City
City View is awesome place to live! Who wouldn't want to live somewhere that is brand new, modern, and absolutely beautiful! The staff is always friendly and professional...where I used to live the person that showed us an apartment couldn't even remember my name a month later...the staff here is a different story! They are always asking how you are doing, by name, and very interested in whether you are happy. They genuinely care about the happiness of their residents. There are a lot of cool places that are within walking distance from our apartment like the park and resaurants. The neighborhood is quiet and I actually feel safe living here! I enjoy seeing the police patrolling all the time! This place is an awesome location, we saw the fireworks for 4th of July from our patio (big perk since we didn't have to leave our apartment and find parking somewhere)! This place is very well kept, the maintenance staff (if needed) are very fast and efficient, most requests get fixed the same day! I have absolutely no complaints and would recommend this apartment to anyone!

Another Happy Resident
This is one of the best apartment I've lived in. These apartments really have a homey, modern feel to them which is great if your looking for something better than just any apartment. The staff is very friendly and helpful especially when it comes to maintanence. Along with being a great place to live, its also a convenient location with parks, resturants and shops extremly close.

Happy Resident
When I moved in the place was immaculate, I didn't have to do hardly anything. The staff is extremely helpful, they answer any questions I have had and work around my odd schedule. The neighborhood is friendly and peaceful. I have great access to parks and highways. I am in walking distance of downtown North Kanas City with all its charming shops. It's a small time town atmosphere with all the conveniences of a big city nearby.
