This was the second apartment complex in which I lived in Raleigh and, though I know my experience is limited, I have to say that this is the absolute WORST. The entire thing is a poorly maintained sham of an ideal living situation. I already knew it was a step down from the Camden apartments I lived in for 3 years but the price seemed to be worth it. It was not. We were not allowed to see our particular apartment before we moved in, and its condition was nowhere near the condition of the model we had seen. We later learned from one of the maintenance guys that the tenants before us had been evicted for their living habits and it was evident that Sommerset Place did not try very hard to get it ready for us. Ownership of the complex changed halfway through our lease and I was excited to have a more hands on management company, but Pegasus is actually worse than the previous owners. It took them over FOUR months to get their website set-up, so you could not pay rent or get anything fixed in your apartment online. We had a bug infestation problem that took them 3 weeks to fix. We received notice in March to please remove personal belongings from our porch, because they were repairing the outside with paint and new siding and promised it would take 5 days. Work is still going on now and it is June 7. And it's ridiculous to even call it work... Some buildings have splashes of paint on them and some are halfway completed and some have not even been touched. The kicker is they suddenly pay attention to detail when you are moving out and they want to screw you. I have never been moved to write any sort of review online at all until this morning, because I have had it with this company and hope that people stop renting from them and they tank. Do not live here, there are so many beautifully maintained places to live in Raleigh with caring and attentive staff. This is not one of them.

DON'T MOVE HERE!! Save your money and go somewhere else. I have to agree that the bug problem is the worst I have ever seen. They show you a model that is so clean and perfect that you have no idea what you are getting yourself into. The management and staff are also extremely rude and disorganized. Both the old and new management are bad. They treat you like trash, and then pretend to help you. If you have a problem and they promise to get back to you, good luck, that will never happen. The laundry room is very dirty too. If you end up bypassing these comments and choose to move in, keep copies of absolutely everything you sign and take pictures of what the apartment looks like upon arrival. They are so disorganized that they lost my checklist from when I first moved in and blaming me and the old management. The manager made a mistake by mentioning to me that tungsten were several different people's papers and folders "misplaced". I broke my lease early because it was such a bad place. There is no way to get rid of he bugs either, I have tried everything. Don't trust the new management, they are worse than the first. And the girl at the front desk is so immature she starts crying when you ask her a question. This place is dirty and unsafe. The lights never work outside no matter how many times you ask for them to fix it. and their website is constantly down and they blame it on you for not checking, even if you do ask the front desk about it. SAVE YOURSELF AND DON'T MOVE HERE. IT WILL BE THE WORST DECISION YOU HAVE EVER MADE!

First let me say that this review is based off the old management. New management took over in December and it was too soon to determine if they were making a difference. All I can say is the bug situation was horrendous. The amount of cockroaches I would see was just unfathomable. I remember specifically one night eating cereal in my recliner and a cockroach fell off the ceiling into my cereal bowl. Additionally, my roommate encountered two incidences where he noticed cockroaches walking up his arm in the middle of the night. I had originally lived in a first floor apartment near the woods. The management at the time attributed my bug problem to that. After the lease, they moved me away from the woods to a 2 floor apartment, yet the roach problem still existed. If you're considering this place, if you can wait, I'd suggest waiting until closer to summer, when the roaches do come out again, and try to do a 2 night stay. I think some apartment complexes in the area let you visit for a couple nights to determine if the place is the right fit.

Don't do it! I have lived at Sommerset for two years. Yes, there are bugs. Maybe people that have lived on the 3rd floor have not had as much problems, but there is a major problem with bugs, flooding and recently.... the office staff. In December a new mgmt co suddenly took over and they are pitiful. Especially the primary manager. She has nothing better to do than agrivate and badger tenants who have been long-time customers. She is a control freak that has single handidly made me decide to move in the next month. I lived to Sommerset because it was quiet, convienient and filled with working professionals. Now, I can't come home without a notice on my door about something completely rediculous. I never have had a single problem or complaint in the past two years and now I constantly feel harassed. Listen to the other tenants and run far away. The 5's on here are probably the control freak trying to up the stars....

This place sucks! It is loud, the office staff is rude and doesnt care about the people at all. My roof caved in and when they came to paint, the paint got all over my stuff! The bugs are horrible and it is so loud. You can hear everything you neighbors do. It is horrible. Wall are cracked... the tiles have fell off in my shower, my windows cracked twice and when they came to replace it they stained my carpet! I can never find a parking spot if I get home after 5:30. The trees leak sap and my neighbor had to pay $500 to get to get it off his car. Tree branches are always falling off the trees and onto cars. People dont pick up there dog poop and I have stepped in piles like 6 times in the past month while walking my dog who I clean up after. My laundry room door has fallen off weekly! They have over charged me by $20 the past 2 months an my neighbor by $100 and when I say something to them they say opps just don't pay that. Then the next month its a "late charge". I stil have to live here until October... wish I could move out tomorrow! I could keep going on and on and on with how horrible this place is! DONT MOVE IN GO FAR FAR AWAY!!!!

Bugs Bugs Bugs...I don't care how many times they have sprayed the water bugs won't go anywhere. I had to buy Raid myself to help eliminate the bugs its embrassing company having bugs crawl on them you will find one almost every week. I got a washer/dryer but before I did I have used there quarters only no machine to get change and they won't provide none at the office. The neighborhood is surrounded by trees so they are a lot of spider webs on people porches and everywhere. Neighbors aren't friendly and they don't know how to park. Wouldn't recommend nobody to stay here horrible for this amount a rent a month.

I have lived in sommerset place for 9 years. The first few years was adequate, but the last year has been terrible. New tenants upstairs has no respect for others. There have been several complaints about them leaving trash outside their doors and dropping cigarettes butts on other people patio. They have left an undrivable car in the parking lot for several months. Tenants stomp at night and sound like they are moving furniture around. I have complained to management on numerous ocassions, but the problems continues. The apt building is 6721. The unit I'm referring to is b6. The waterbugs are like roommates. I will be moving out and purchasing a home worth the money. If you like having waterbugs for a roommate and disrespectful tenants then sommerset is the place to be. The rent they charge each month is ridiculous for this apartment. Not worth it.

Happy
I moved in here this past July and I have had very few issues. I have seen 2 cockroaches the whole time I have been here and I talked to the office about it and my apartment was sprayed that week. They are also very good about maintence issues. They always come the day I put in a request in. The kitchens are nice and everything is new but they are small (but I knew this before I moved in). It is nice and quiet which I love. The parking is horrible and I never can seem to find a spot (I live on the side by the tennis courts). The girl in the office is not so nice and always very short with me. I always feel like I am bothering her. The guy is very nice and always chatty and up for finding a way to help. They got rid of the drop box for rent payments which is very annoying but over all it is a very nice place to live.

Stay Clear of Here
This is one of those apartment communities that change management frequently and the maintenance staff are unfriendly. I have live there 2008 and my maintenance needs were addressed, however, nothing changed. I spoke to them about the draft under my door and it was halfway fixed. I spoke to them about BOTH toliets having poor flushing quality and that they were leaking and that was halfway fixed. The list goes from there. The apartments are not worth price you pay because they are really small and there are very few amenities. If you have children, do not live here because there are no children in the neighborhood. Well, there are but you never see them unless they are walking inside their homes. The bugs are nasty and OMG the spiders! They have everybug there in that area. If you do live here, do not get a downstairs apartment because it will flood. The whole area floods badly. I cannot wait to leave here!! UGHH!!

Not a bad place if you don't mind cockroaches and loads of other insects.
On the plus side, all the staff are really quite friendly. However, the bug infestation is just ridiculous. At the beginning of the year, I was seeing giant centipedes (I think that's what they were called.) almost every day in my apartment. A few months later, I started seeing cockroaches on almost a daily basis. And then, a couple months after that, there was an insane amount of crickets everywhere. My outdoor patio closet was literally covered and I could not get my lawn chairs out because it was just absolutely disgusting. I had to wait for the exterminator to come before I could go in and get my stuff. Like I said, the staff are really exceptional people and are always attempting to take care of the insect problem, but have still been unsuccessful. I would really advise people to stay away from this complex. The bug problem here is absolutely horrendous.

AWESOME
We moved to Sommerset last year and then, this year, got a bigger place within the complex. The staff is ALWAYS positive, helpful, and generous and the maintenance crews are always available in a timely manner--they even helped us move to the new place by providing a pulley system for new furniture! The newly renovated apartments are gorgeous--the fixtures and appliances are FAR above other complexes where I have paid more money.

Love living here
I have read all the reviews about bugs and bad management but I have not had that experience. Anytime I have a problem, the office addresses it immediately. I don't have bugs but I keep a clean apartment. I also live in a renovated apartment and it is way nicer than my previous more expensive ITB townhouse that had more bugs and they wouldn't fix anything. I never have to walk far to find parking and I do hear my neighbors walking around upstairs but that is to be expected. People, you get what you pay for. This is a nice place with nice management. If you can afford to pay $1200 a month at the Alexan, then go. This is a great place for people that can't afford such high rent but want to be close to everything. If I didn't have to relocate for work, I would stay.

Good if you can't afford anywhere better...
I live in Sommerset for two years and it was ok since I couldn't afford anything better. I had problems with everything from roaches (big time), to my toilet, water heater, AC, faulty doors & light fixtures. Everything is so old it is bound to break at any point. That being said, the maintenance crew responded promptly (usually the same day) but anything that could be patched was. The repair work was poor. Only when it couldn't be patched would they replace it. I had to get a HOLE in my water heater before they would replace it, and then the new one they put in took FOREVER to heat up! (I'm thinking it wasn't new even though it looked it). They are under 'high dollar' new management now and as a result they are doing some remodeling on the apartments which looks nice (they needed it BADLY), but they wouldn't let me upgrade to a new unit without a MAJOR increase in my rent. All in all, it's a quite safe place in a good location if you can't afford anything nicer, but if you can I would look somewhere else.

I had to move out of North Hill Terrance, because they tore it down. I was looking for a place that I can call a second home. I find that in Sommerset Place, I came out here twice. I decided to see how the apartment was doing the day and night. Both times were quiet. So I decided to move in. The staff here is very friendly and when something needs to be fixed in the apartment, it is fixed right then. It's not two or three days latterly that they fix it. Some of may friends complain about the apartments they are in. I'm happy here. It's very quiet here.

Wonderful Apartment Community
The best deal in town for this location: North Raleigh - where you are central to great resturants, shopping and entertainment just up the street from North Hills with easy access to 440 and 540- I've lived in Raleigh now for about nine months, eight of those nine at Sommerset place. At first clance I did not think that I could afford to live here since I would be maintaining two residences- this was my preception from just looking at the outside of the building and where it was located. Only to my dismay- I chose one of the renovated unit, which is very comparable to a very small section of my home in Florida. This community is clean, quiet and they are well built with a very limited noise factor which should be exptected from any apartment community. The staff is Great (John You Rock) Stien and Bruce the Maintenance Men they are the best - what few things I've needed taken care of-- I only need to mention it to one of them in passing on my way to work and its taken care of without a call to the office-this really amazed me! I am a single female and I feel very very safe here- there is no loud music nor are there loud and aggressive people living within the complex - they only way that I know children live within the complex is when I see them walking to the bus stop which is amazing- this means the ones that are here are very well behaved! For the price, location safety and limited amount of noise and the accomadating management and staff I highly recommend this community. It is now my home away from home!!!!

Never Again
I'm not at all surprised to see that Sommerset Place has a 37% rating.. They deserve less than that!! Me and my wife lived at Sommerset for 1 year. We had several issues as follows: 1. Extremely noisy tenets above and below us. We were at ground level and had people above and below us. Imagine from 12am-6am non stop music and marathon running above our heads. And all during the afternoon piano/keyboard music being played below us. 2. Every complaint I or my wife made to the office was totally disregarded.. The apartment manager would always say "We are sorry, we will talk to the other tenets and make sure the noise stops.." But every single time we would complain.. The music and noise would just be 10 times worse. 3. I do a lot of traveling and sometimes end up getting back a little bit later in the night.. between 11pm-1am and every single time I got back there was absolutely no parking at a reasonable distance from my apartment home.. There were several cars that just never moved also making the parking very irritating to find during the evening hours. Me and my wife have already found a better place to live. We are just waiting for our lease to run out.... Then we are going to be out faster than lightning.. We have already packed and cannot be more excited to leave here!!!!!! I have no problem posting this review before we leave.. Our time here has been so horrible that it could not get any worse than it is right now. Please everyone looking for a nice place to live... DO NOT CHOOSE HERE!

Horrid
Sommerset Place is definetely the best place for low class people to live! Honestly and truthfully. I am from NYC and I have lived on several not so great apartment homes.. But nothing adds up to the lowest form of low class apartment homes being sommerset place. As of now they have a 2.4 out of 5 which obviously says something when 60% of people that have rented from them also think of them at the lowest. I lived at sommerset for 1 year and it was the worst experience I have ever had. The scum of people that you find in alley ways in NYC is nothing compared to the vile people living at sommerset. I have seen people selling mysterious shoe boxes full of stuff out of big suv's.. If that isn't enough.. The complex manager is as smart as pre-schooler... Who obviously doesn't have the mental capicity of running a coffee pot.. Idiots!! The maintenance people are the only nice people there. I have bought a home now and having a huge house to myself gives me enough reward from choosing sommerset to live at while my home was being built! I reccommend sommerset to no one!!

Nice comfortable units and staff is great. Grounds and buildings are well taken care of. Staff has always been super responsive, friendly, and attentive. Location is oustanding: Love the schools and great Capital Area Greenway Trail is only a short walk from complex. Also, plenty of groceries and restaurants, etc... close by.

Best Place To Live In Raleigh !!!
I have lived here for over 2yrs, very pleased with the management, maintenance crew, and never want to leave. The units ahve been recently remodeled, and now they are very luxurious. The office staff is courteous, and very helpful to me, maybe because I try not to be late with the rent each month !!! No bugs in the units, and that is definitly a plus !!! So head over to Sommerset Place, before all the good ones get gone !!!

Literally Hell On Earth
I have been gone from Sommerset Place for almost a year now. I am so happy to be gone!! This place was nice to move into... Brand new carpet.. nice and bright inside.. The main bad thing was the paint chipping and the nasty looking bathrooms.. After a month of living in silence a new neighbor moved in.. Then the next 11 months were absolute HELL. I found myself in the office for a good majority of living there trying to get the noise to stop. The Office staff seemed friendly to start off with.. (Of course.. they all want money money money.. any Realtor would lie to get someone in). After moving in the Office Staff did not do ANYTHING.. "oh we will have a talk with them" "oh, I am sorry there is so much noise.. we will investigate" "we have talked to your neighbors and they have agreed to be more quiet" ... UM NO! 11pm-4pm EVERY NIGHT slamming crap on the floor.. moving furniture.. Throwing each other against walls... OUTRAGEOUS! The only GOOD thing was the maintenance workers.. The two guys there need to be transfered to a good facility and EVERYONE else working at Sommerset Place needs to be fired IMMEDIATELY. When you live somewhere... anywhere... you should be able to have a HOME to go home to every night.. not extreme HELL and TORTURE! I am so glad to be in a different place. I would never recommend ANYONE here at all.. Absolute HELL

Nice place
My girlfriend and I have lived here for about 4 months. It's a nice place and well kept. We have definitely noticed a difference. There's been a lot of improvements in both the upkeep of the grounds and the apartments. We are considering moving into their renovated apartments. For me, I love the location. I work in RDU and it's an EASY commute. Getting to downtown is easy as well, if your looking for dining and nightlife. What we are most impressed with is their maintenance staff. Last week our air conditioner went out at 10:00 in the evening. We called their emergency line and the maintence guy was at our door by 11:00 that night. The next morning they installed a brand new unit. It doesn't get much better than that. We definitely would recommend this place.
