It's the worst
When I first move to this complex everything was fine. (I moved from Durham, so you can imagine)Then after I signed another years lease it's like all hell broke loose. One guy that stayed in the next building, his car was broken into and rims taken & not a month later someone kicked in his door and stole all of his things IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. Then I live on the first floor and its like I can hear every sound outside, upstairs, and all around. And its like they landscape every freakin day. It's not that much grass to cut everyday!!! If not landscaping they are doing some type of construction or something over here. Its always something. i would strongly suggest, if you're thinking of moving here, DON'T!!! Something is bound to drive you crazy!!!!

I would never move there
I lived in this apartment complex for a year and it was HELL!!!! The day I moved in i noticed the lock on the front door wasnt working properly. Then the next week my kicthen sink got stopped up and one of my neighbor's got robbed.the nieghboor above me complained about me making noise to the office, but it was hours I was at work. The layout for the 2 bedroom sucks!!! The kitchen is VERY small and so is the dining room!! There is NO counter or cabinet space. The master and guest bedroom and bathroom was an okay size, but the living room was small.

Cracks and nailheads busting out!
I moved in and signed a lease for a two bedroom at $499 a month. I loved it. The apartment worked well for me then. I was a single mother of two little girls. PROS: I loved how the bedrooms were on opposite sides of the apartment. Loved the fireplace, and loved the vaulted ceiling in the third floor apartment. The guest bathroom was big, I liked the big linen closet in the bathroom. The walk-in closets were huge. The closet in the guest bedroom is big enough to sleep in. The patio is big enough for a hammock...Trust me, I had one on it. CONS: The check-in list is for what? They are supposed to fix those things within a couple weeks of you moving in, right? Wrong, not at this place. I asked several times, and kept record of how many times, to get several things fixed. I had to eventually write to the regional office, and the office staff hated that, but things got done. If you don't move into the bottom floor, have fun moving your stuff in with the pulley system. The layout of the two bedroom apts suck when you walk in the front door. We had to PULL my couch in through the sliding glass doors. Throughout the whole apartment, the nailheads were popping out of the walls. Leaving chips of paint on the floor. The wall was cracking at the ceiling, showing the poor construction. The screen never stayed on the sliding door track. The dishwasher sucked. It never cleaned the dishes. There was no counter space to put a microwave. I had to buy a stand to put it on. My best friend put her microwave in the pantry. The doors at the laundry connections would NEVER stay on track. It was really hard to put the appliances in and out of the room. I liked the location of the unit, but they should have made it larger. I moved out, and they charged me for the carpets... I lived there for 2 years, the carpets were NOT brand new when I moved in. They said I had "excessive wear and tear" on the carpets. I could understand on brand new carpets, but they were not new, and I had a 2 & 3 year old... I could go on and on about the cons of this place. I can complain now, because I don't live there. But when I lived there, I paid less than market value, and I paid for what I got. I signed at a deal of $499 a month with a $99 deposit. I re-signed for a second year, and my rent went to $549. So I couldn't complain about the price. It was just right for a single mother of two. The one great thing that Equity offered halfway through my stay... If the maintenance staff does NOT fix your work order within 48 hours (sometimes they had to order parts, they had to at least assess the problem within the 48 hours), you were rent free until they fixed it. I now live in another Equity property in Raleigh, and I paid half the rent the sixth month into my lease. They didn't fix several things on my check-in list, and never fixed a lighting problem in my guest bathroom. That's right, I reported it FOUR times, and nothing ever got done. I finally was disgusted about it and called and complained and stated the exact dates of reporting it, and literally got half my rent knocked off. So keep track of when you report work orders. It comes in handy when trying to live rent free. Good Luck.

not worth it
The apartments are old, my car got vandalized, and i was misled about the terms of my lease. i took for granted that the staff was being honest, that was a mistake. READ THE LEASE AND KEEP A COPY!!!

I love my apartrment
I have lived at Sommerset Place in 2 different apartments - a 1 bedroom and now a 2-bedroom. I love the layout and the balcony. The office staff is friendly and helpful as are the maintenance folks - I have had all of my requests attended to in less than 24 hours. My building is pretty quiet, and the buildings around us are as well, and I have never had a problem with noise from my neighbors other than the usual day-to-day "living" noises. My only concern is that the rent is increased a fairly substantial amount each year, and pretty soon it will be cheaper for me to rent a 3 bedroom!!

calm & pleasant
I have lived at Sommerset for 7 months. It is a nice place to live. I have not had any ongoing issues with maintenance. They have replied to all of my requests very quickly. There is sometimes an issue with parking if you get home after 9pm, due to neighbors having guests & 2-4 cars to a house. Other than King Kong living upstairs & music lovers living next door it is an ok place to live. I have gotten used to my loud neighbors & they seem to have gotten used to me. It is a safe place so far. I haven't witnessed any crime or police calls. This is definitely a place I can live in for a while, until they surprise me & raise the rent tremendously. Being that complexes charge soo many fees when moving in, I don't see why they would raise your rent anyway.

OK
I lived here for a year. The place went down hill as time went along. It is in a good part of Raleigh, but the actual apartments are not that nice. There are a lot of cracks in the ceiling and walls. Although I never heard by neighbors and it was a quiet place over all. The apartments are just getting old and have not been well cared for. Maintainence was an issue. They lied some and there was a period when I did not have air in the middle of the summer which was a total nightmare.

No way ...
The apartments are small and showing their age. The appliances in my unit were old and had to be fixed or replaced often. NO insulation in these apartments, which made for very high electric bills, especially in the winter. Management's fix for this is to cover the windows with plastic, which is inefficient and unattractive. Along with zero insulation, the walls are very thin so you will hear EVERYTHING your neighbors are doing.
Management was nice and helpful first, but after about a year there were new people in the office that were not so friendly. Maintnenance was usually very prompt and they did a good job.
Overall, this place is not worth the money. Look elsewhere.
Grade 'C' at best
I lived at Sommerset place for about one year, and am happy to be gone. It looked like the perfect place for me, especially because of the quiet, secluded appearance. However, this secluded complex lended itself to crime, and I can't think of a single weekend during my residency where the police were not putting yellow tape on a door in my complex (great place for meth labs, by the way) or asking me questions at 2 a.m. about the most recent mugging.

The staff, nevertheless, was often helpful and courteous. The maintenance crew was prompt, yet the "fixing" part wasn't up to par.

The complex is well-lit at night. Well-lit, that is, with creepy, orange bulbs that light up the interior of each bedroom as if it were a scene from the "Halloween" movies.

The buildings are very old and not insulated at all. I do believe that construction paper separated me from my neighbors. I recommend using 4 or 25 box fans to help take the focus off the noises--to include singing, riverdancing, dogs being tortured slowly, and deprived circus monkey sex--that tend to occur between 10pm and 10am ("Quiet hours").

The price went up, the quality went down, and I said "bye-bye." I strongly recommend finding something else--an extra $50/month elsewhere may truly help keep your sanity.

Equity Sucks
When I first moved into my two bedroom, I thought I was getting a great deal. They were alright at first. Their maintenance staff is incompetent: they had to fix things 4 and 5 times, if at all. By all means, don't leave anything next to your front door - $25 fine. The kicker was when we moved out... we turned in our keys a few days early, and even though we had rent paid until our lease was over, they still charged us an early termination fee. Equity Sucks and I will never rent from them again.

Couldn´t Move Fast Enough
We lived in these apartments for several years. At first they were pretty decent for the price but as years went by and rent continually increased with no improvements, we decided enough was enough. Our third floor, two bedroom was supposed to be one of the nicer plans. Unfortunately, the floor is so unlevel that your furniture won´t sit without rocking. The entire building vibrates sometimes so much that we genuinely feared we lived on a fault line. The walls are so thin you can hear your down stairs neighbor singing in the shower (at best)amongst other things... all calls to mgmt are returned eventually (if you can find them open) but nothing really ever gets done. They never could/would explain the weird vibration and it is not subtle, items literally moved across the tables and countertops. The neighbors definitely declined with many broken down cars, people leaving trash out all over and the dumpsters seemed perpetually overflowing. Security lights seemed to stay unfixed making me fearful to come in late.
Overall, for the amount of rent we were paying this place is a dump.
