Ross
I was really skeptical about living here because I had read all the horror stories of apartments being mysteriously open, trashy halls and trash rooms, and bad parking! So I took the advice of some one below and actually went and looked at the place, and guess what I really was impressed! I actually asked the leasing lady if I could look in the trash rooms to see if they smelled and they were clean and smelled fine. I asked about people getting keys to other peoples apartments and she told me that there is a lock box that has the keys in it, and it records what keys came in and out of it and who took them out! Now about parking I did notice that the spots were kinda small, but I did see people parked in there that had trucks and suvs and they fit. I decided to lease at 1001 Ross and have lived here now for about 2weeks now and havent had any problems! They actually have people that live there that come welcome you to 1001 Ross and invite you to outings and get togethers in the clubroom. I like that. Oh and as far as my parking since I live here I initally had gotten a parking spot that I did not like, they showed me all the vacant spots and let me pick which spot I wanted I have a good one now! I like my apartment and got it for a really good deal. So far I really feel at home!

Terrible smell and high level noise
Since it is next to the aquarium the fish smell is 24/7 and horrible. In addition, the aquarium has birds that make noise 24/7. Also, it is close to the fire department therefore every single minute you will hear the siren

This is a great place to live.
I have lived here for awhile and I have never had any one shove Christianity down my throat. I have never even had any of the staff or any one really talk about that with me. I dont know what that guy a few below is talking about. Sounds to me like someones a little parinoid. Anyways I really like it here! I have a great Downtown View from my apartment. I love the courtyards, they are so relaxing to lay out and read a book, or hang out with my friends with a few drinks, next to the outdoor fireplace. I really havent had any problems, expecially since they got new staff about a year ago. There really nice to me and will go out of there way for me. Its a great place to live. Love it.

before you move in!
I lived at 1001 ross ave. and before you move in check this out! 1. If you are a christian and a christian only, you will love it here! They have bible studies and or "fellowship meetings", and you will get little flyers in your door about it to. The group is ran by a practicing preacher and his wife, I really wish they would leave the bibles out of it, and just have a "tenant meeting" open for all types of people with different races and cultures, but with their over the top christian (forced down your throat ways) it makes it impossible to want to live there and be happy with it. By the way they like to deny this, but you will see it if you live there. 2. They will screw you on your lease! The lease I signed said I had wireless internet, I NEVER DID! THE PARKING WAS HORRIBLE. The elevators break down non-stop, and the security they "promote" having, is not what they promote. In fact the security does not seem to secure to much except I did see them always with a girl on their lap when passing by (and several times asleep). Also I would see these "gangsta wannabees" walking around alot and a few times while in the "computer room" I saw them starting fights with someone else in the computer room, and the security guy knew about it and did nothing, he just laughed about it????! 3. If you have a complaint about something, they really do not take care of it. They like to act corporate and fake and say they are going to take care of something but they dont. 4.The security pass and all that stuff does not work, people get in all the time, they roam the halls at night waking everyone up, setting off fire alarms, there was always drama and someone acting up at night! This place is way to over priced to deal with all of this, If you are going to live there make sure your windows are closed when you want to sleep, make sure you have earplugs in if you cannot sleep with noise going on around you, I would also suggest entering from the back of the facility, and never speaking to the security or management, just keep to yourself until your next place!

Get rid of your car to live here!
The guy two below this review is right, if you live here you better drive a motocycle otherwise your going to hit your car on the pole everytime you try to squeeze into tiny parking space. Ive scratched my car several times because i drive a full bodied sedan and management doesnt care

Love Downtown Living
I have lived here for right at 2 years and still love it, love it more now actually. I am the first person in my apartment which means I have been through several rounds of office staff and neighbors. I really like the new staff, they seem really nice and actually remember my name and apt number without me telling them, may not seem like much but i've lived in lots of places. The neighbors seem to be better than ever as well, other than the ones that think it's cute to move the door mats around and ring door bells from time to time. Overall I really like it here. The maintenance is quick and kind, the staff is very sweet, the security is efficent. Get downtown before all the others do, this place is going to be happening in about 2 years. Get it while it's still here! Oh, forgot, the parking isn't great but seriously, who thinks its a good idea to have a hummer in freakin downtown. Parking spaces are huge but comeon, learn to park or do like me and walk most of the time.

I really love living here
I have lived here for oh about 6months and I absolutely love it. It is not a really big place so you can get to know your neighbors pretty quick, great for me because I was new to the Dallas area. Most of the residents are very nice and so is the management. The apartments are really modern and very good priced for Downtown Dallas. Ok yea and maintence is really quick at getting things taken care of, they even come up on their day off to fix anything urgent or important to the resident. The only thing that I have noticed that was not that great was the parking situation. The spots are not real big. But it does have gated underground parking which I love. I havent noticed anything unclean. I see someone cleaning all the floors every morning when I leave for work. Anyways as you can tell I love 1001 Ross.

Not for the price
The apartments are okay. They tend to be a little cheaper than other apartments in the area. It is nice to be able to walk to the House of Blues and American Airlines center. The apartments have a nice decor. The management is okay. I found them very helpful when I moved in. They usually respond to any concerns I have fairly quickly. The complex is dirty in the trash rooms and hallways. If it is Sat or Sun the parking garage is filthy and the trash cans always stink. I find most of the problems with this place is the maintenance guys. They seem lazy. They apear to never be working. I don't think they really care that we as tenants have to live here. They don't care if it is dirty or not. I have also had my door mysteriously unlocked. The property is loud. The walls are thin and if you live anywhere around the trash room or stair case the doors slam all the time. In my opinion I pay too much for this apartment. It is noisy and dirty. If I could move I would. If the dirty property and noise from the doors slaming doesn't bother you, than you may love this place. It is a great location. If you move uptown you are going to pay more for an apartment the same size. After living here, I would pay the extra money for a cleaner more quiet place to live.

Former Resident Would Not Recommend
I would not recommend this place... they promote this place as "luxury living", but it is far from that. The trash room is always in bad shape, the hallways are dirty and the garage not clean. I would suggest a different part of Dallas, maybe closer to McKinney Avenue, as the West End is not particularly exciting, and more oriented towards tourists rather than proper residents who will be in the neighborhood year-round.

Best Place in Dallas
1001 Ross is a great place to live.
The location is great. You have chipotle and the Walrus(Cool New Bar) next door, and west village/ Victory Park is a cheap cab fare away. The staff is very friendly and reliable. The floorplans are some of the best in Dallas. The price freakin unbelievable. It is a great value. I was shopping the upper tier apartments in the downtown west village area and 1001 Ross blew everybody away on value. Security is pretty good. Parking is good. The hallways and elevators are always clean. The maintenance guys are on top of things. Also, the walls are very thick. I have never heard a sound from my neighbors even though they say they play their music loud at times.
Illegal Apartment Entry
I lived here for several weeks in corporate housing due to relocating for work. One day my spouse came home to find someone else's clothes in our wash machine. Later in the day, someone attempted to use a key to enter our unit, but we had locked the second lock that is not accessible on the outside of the door. We looked outside into the hall and saw two people running; they didn't work for the apartment complex or our corporate housing company. Not sure how they received keys, but the management company refused to acknowledge our situation and were not very concered.

Coolest Property
I have been living here for about 6 months and will definetly be renewing my lease. The staff is super nice and always helpfull. I love my floorplan, it is so modern. I've lived at lots of apartment complexs and this one is so clean and well built. Don't mean to sound like a dork but, no one ever comes on here to say good things. Thought I would. Love it here!!

Do NOT Move Here!!!
I lived at this complex for over a year, moved in when they were BRAND NEW. Over the course of my lease, the complex grew increasingly worse (inside and outside). Some of the residents were rude, even hostile, and management was too cowardly to adress these problems. I had to call the police a few times. The on-site security guard is a JOKE. The complex is OVERPRICED and DIRTY and full of CIGARETTE SMOKE. The place is so filthy that I have been embarassed to bring guests into the corridors, garage, and elevators to get to my apartment. There were always pet stains and the place smelled. The trash room overflowed and even backed up over the weekends (with TERRIBLE smells), and the stairwells were also filthy. I asked management to clean them (which included a tampon in the stairwell) and they never did. I asked management to post no smoking signs in the elevators and they flatly refused. The elevators are frequently not working, extremely slow, and tenants receive no notification when the service elevator is on hold (even when it is not being used by anyone). The stairs are faster. When I moved in, they did not even have the elevator put on hold for my use, but they did for other tenants. The other tenants are so loud that I had to step into the hallway several times at 2, 3 and 4 o'clock in the morning to ask them to be quiet. Also, the windows are VERY drafty and the floors are not caulked. I had to put in a maintenance request to get them to caulk the tub with water-proof caulk, and had to request pest control several times. Also, my dishwasher was not working when I moved in (despite these being new apartments) and I had to make several maintenance requests before they finally fixed it. The cable television service (SBC, now AT&T) always went out with the SLIGHTEST of storms or rain or high winds, and for several months I could not receive all of the channels I was paying for. Parking is bad. Though spots are reserved underground, other inconsiderate tenants frequently park in your spot, and management does little or nothing about it (though I was paying $100 per month for parking). I was not informed of the extra fee for parking underground until after I had fill out an application and paid the deposit and came in to sign the lease. The first management also altered my paperwork AFTER I signed it, without my knowledge, and then lied about it. The only way I could prove this was by giving verifying information (they refused to give me copies). People also park in the ground-level garage that are going to the American Airlines center or visiting the West End so your guests often have problems parking, and that's when the garage isn't blocked by large moving vans/trucks. I couldn't wait to get out when my lease expired. I moved out 6 months ago and still have not been reimbursed for over-payment of utilities. The complex switched management with no prior notice to tenants. They did not send out new leases with the new management, and when I moved out, they "lost" my paperwork and move-out notification. The management is incompetent. The place could have been really nice, but it is not.

DON'T LIVE HERE
I have lived at 1001 Ross for almost one year. Overall, the experience has been ok but I would definitely not recommend this place to others. First, the quality of construction of the building is poor. The complex is always trashed (lots of SMU students live here and treat it like a dorm) and smells of urine and trash. Second, there is only one internet/cable provider for the complex. It is extremely expensive. You will be gouged! Third, rent is very expensive. It is not worth the money that you spend. Also, you have to pay an extra $65.00 per month to park. The spaces are so small that a truck or SUV will be an extremely tight squeeze. Most of the cars in the garage are scraped and dented due to the close proxemity of each space to other cars and the concrete pillars. The surroundings are also very loud. If you want to sleep past 6:30 am, you are out of luck. The complex does have a pool/spa located in a court yard in the center of the complex. The pool and spa are surrounded by the windows of each unit. There is no privacy and anytime you go outside to lie out or swim, people watch you out of their windows. It sucks! One good thing about the complex is the staff is very nice and takes care of any requests very quickly; however I will not be renewing my lease due to the above reasons.

this place is the shitzznit
I have lived here for about 6 months and i love this place. we have bad --- parties all the time and the cops never show up, unlike the dorms where they always do. If you happen to be a student at smu you should really consider living here because we get trashed all the time and walk to subway and get food and there is always funny homeless people to scream at. You should come see Crazy Larry, that man is a god. he dances for nickles. The only real problem is this damn leppercuan (spelling?) that is a horribel neighbor, and some other uptight people who decided to come an up and coming residence in the heart of downtown to retire for some reason. Other wise the service is great, the staff is really friendly, maintance is perfect and the place is clean 99.9% of the time. Security does take care of things.

Love it!
I moved in about 3 weeks ago and I love it here. The only real issue I have encountered is the parking spots. They are amazingly tiny but if you can get the right one, it's not a problem. Everything else is great! The apartments are nice and the appliances are very nice. I don't know what the other people were talking about with the trash in the halls and cigarettes, I've never seen any of that. Apparently JPI hasn't owned it for very long, but I find staff to be incredibly nice. They are very prompt to. I have ordered 3 service requests (mainly for things my fault). I order the request online in the morning, and it is done before i get home from work at night. I love it here and would highly recommend it!

Alright
Rent is moderately high, but the location is nice considering proximity to DMA and West End. Parking is expensive (one spot per bedroom, $65 any cars thereafter I believe). Parking spaces are narrow, and your automobile will inevitably succumb to damage of some sort. Appliances are good quality, and the appearance of the building is kept up very well.

As an addendum, if you live or are considering living here, the OREX Printing downstairs is a complete rip off. I hope you read this just so you never visit the store. HORRIBLE SERVICE.

Several issues
I have several problems with the apartments but I will only mention the main ones. The actual apartments are nice inside, but the hallways, elevators,& grounds are always trashed. It is mainly due to some residents that are inconsiderate to others by trashing the place and being extremly loud. The other main issue are the fire alarms. They seem to contstantly go off at all times of the night/day. I believe just this past weekend the alarms went off 3-4 times, it get very irritating to have alarms constantly go off. Even though the apartments are non smoking (except only in renters apartment) the halls, elevators, and stairwells constantly smell like smoke with cigirett butts in the halls. The residents who smoke in non-smoking areas could very well be part of the fire alarm issue which should be addressed either way. There are several problems that need to be fixed before I would recommend anyone moving here.

not terribly impressed
unless you want to live in a college dorm, don't move here, otherwise it is fine. they need bigger trash cans around this place. trash piles up over the weekend. security guards are worthless. not really their fault, but some of the people who live here are flat out idiots. they need to respect where they live and those around them. also they need to be responsible for their guests. be prepared to be asked for change everytime you step outside. of all the areas of downtown to move to this is probably the worst. the lot to the south needs to be developed, bad. it looks like some third world countries. CVS down stairs opens at least 5-10 minutes late about 2 times a week. cold stone is great as well as subway. elevator on the north side sucks, either broke or locked out for move in -move out. not thought out very well in my opinion. staff are generally friendly and helpful. nothing cool about living in the west end. nothing cool about the west end for that matter. maybe victory will help that.

nice
I just moved in this week. I live in the A3 floorplan with a balcony overlooking the courtyard with the fireplace. Huge balcony. The leasing staff esp. Brett are all nice. Maintenance is taken care of same day. Parking is ample with elevators close to your residence. Gym is small. Subway and CVS are downstairs. Walking distance to overpriced resturants in West End shopping area. Walking distance to downtown. Secure building, need passes, has security guard and cameras. Appliances and interiors are modern, not lofty.
