Very Unprofessional
We lived in these apartments for 1 year and it was the worst plan ever! I won't go into all of the details of horrible management, shoddy repair work (when and if it got done), and the condition of the apartments after the hurricane. We we gave notice and moved out of our apartments only to be sent a letter from the collection agency 6 months later. No other form of contact, just a letter from the agency. How ridiculous is that? This place can't hold down the some manager for more than a few months and it is not worth the headache to even try to live there. Don't waste your time, money or stress level. Parking was adequate. Poop was everywhere so watch your step. IF you are willing to pay an arm and a leg for your electric bill in a one bedroom this is the place for you. The apartments are not insulated well and the air conditioners are older than Moses. There were so many things wrong with this place that I can't take the time to list them all. If you rent here you have been warned.

YOU WILL REGRET SIGNING A LEASE HERE!
I lived at Newport for 2 years. After reading other reviews, I would agree that they will try to take your money! After Hurricane Ike, other apartment complexes were refunding money to their residents because the apartments in Galveston were considered not livable...no water, electricity, ect. The only way to communicate with Newport during the hurricane was through the corporate office. Since the mail was not running and phone lines were down in Galveston, I didn't understand how to pay rent (or if I needed to pay, since other complexes were refuning money). After making several attempts to contact the coporate office (never returned any calls), I decided I would just pay my rent when we were allowed back on the island. I returned home to an eviction notice and a $100.00 late fee! Don't try to get any sympathy from mgmt because they DO NOT CARE! I decided to sign another lease because I didn't have many options due to the devastation of the hurricane. VERY STUPID decision on my part. I recently moved out, and thought everything was taken care of when I left. 1 month after I moved out, I found out I owed $500.00 because I broke my lease by a couple of weeks! I just knew my lease was up in July, I didn't realized it was up at the end of July. The only reason I found out I owed any money is because I called to check on my deposit. I never received a bill or was told to pay any other money before I moved out. In fact, I was given a pro rated rent for the month of July. 3 days after I found out I owed this money, the collection agency called me! I had never received a bill, but somehow I had already been turned into the collection agency!! I was a good resident for 2 years. This place never had problem with me, though it would seem I was the worst resident in the complex. If you want to deal with this type of service pick Newport at Campache Cove.

WATCH YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!
These people have tried to get over $1300.00 from me! Make sure that you know exactly how much your rent is and everything you've paid for. These people will take your money in NO TIME! Also, argue your point because most likely they are wrong! If they try to charge you for something or send your account to collections, make sure you know exactly what they are charging you for and claiming that you did not pay. Be sure to read the lease and make them point out to you why you are being charged for something! Remember.....THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY IN NO TIME!!!!

You will regret signing a lease at this property
I wrote a very poor review about 2 weeks ago and to my surprise it has been deleted. Guess the truth hurts. We have had constant problems with the a/c not cooling and the management has conveniently lost our work order requests and have also incenuated that we are lying about the non-working a/c unit. Well, how do you explain a $368 elec. bill in June and $491 in July. We also have complained of an electrical shortage in the apt. for 2 months and they refused to believe us. After threats to contact an atty., Galv. Housing District and Alex Rodriquez, Yankee baseball player and apt. owner, and Channel 12 News to report that Alex R. is a slum lord, they all of a sudden found the electrical problem and they have attempted to make repairs to the a/c which still does not work. We give up and due to a recent illness in our family, our family physician has written a medical release for the necessitiy to move from the apts, granting legal early dismissal from our lease. We have only lived here since end of April and can't wait to leave this pit. A note of advice - if you turn in a work order request have it notorized and sent by certified mail with request for signed return receipt. After the 3rd request and the problem has not been addressed you are legally released from your lease. Just remember to send all work repair requests as noted above and document all conversations, dates, times and resolutions to your requests. If you have signed a 12 mos. lease I know you won't continue living at the apts. during the duration of the lease. Wish I had researced reviews prior to moving in.

Yuck
We lived in this apt from 08-09, both before & after Ike. The place was just 'okay' prior to Ike...shotty workmanship. Staff is not attentive. Maintenance would not come to have things fixed when they said they would. Although it was one of the nicer complexes on the island compared to many other big name apartments, the price was decent for the amount of sq footage & closet space we had. I was HIGHLY pissed after hurricane Ike that maintenance didn't do crap after Ike. The other comments are absolutely true....I saw many other apts (even the lower income apts) start rebuilding and fixing their units. But not Newport. It took us almost 3 months to get a window that was broken out during the storm replaced. We spent 6 weeks with plastic covering the window...how unsafe is that...that's a red flag to people to tell them to come rob me. Then after many requests & threats, they finally placed corkboard over my window for the next 6 weeks until I got a real window. And after the storm, we realized that our carpet must have gotten wet during the storm, because mold started growing up the walls with avengence a couple of months later. Did they break out the molded part of the wall to replace it? No. Did they address the problem right away? No way. It took them a month to get their butts over to my apt, and by that time the mold had gone from a little mold to A LOT OF MOLD, covering up to half of some of my walls in several rooms. All they did was PAINT OVER ALL OF THE MOLD. My husband & child have asthma...how dare they! What bastards! I demanded to the office that I not be held liable to give a 30 day notice because I wanted to move out of there ASAP after that incident. The office guy, I think his name was Jason, told me that I would still have to give 30 days notice. Reluctantly, I gave the 30 day notice and moved out in April '09. This is sad, because I think most of the Galveston apts are just crappy, and Newport was one of the best options on the island. Now I don't think I would recommend living in any apt complex on the island. And 4-5 months post Ike, they still hadn't done crap to fix any of the abandoned apts at all. Oh sorry, I guess they did get the lobby and pool area fixed up pretty quick so they could have it looking pretty after the storm...but as far as doing anything to fix anybody's residences....forget about it. I'm attaching pictures of all the damn mold in my apt that they painted over. God only knows what some of the people who live in these apts are breathing in everyday since virtually every single unit had damage. This will definitely have awful long term effects to every resident's health. Newport, u should be ashamed of yourselves.

i agree!!
I moved there in 2007 and moved there after I had enough of there broken promises.I also was promised screened patio's, and two years later still nothing,I moved out of there 5 months after ike.yet it looked like the day after the island was hit. the staff thought it was acceptable for residents to live with self boarded up windows and damaged appliances abandons at the entrance of our apartment doors. i personally couldn't even sleep in my own bedroom.a matress on the living room floor is where i slept. trash filled parking lots with not poor lighting more like none at all!laundry room ? ha!dont you dare enter the bugg infested place.oh and maintence? is that what there called cause thats not what they do? you cant even speak to them because the dont speak english!! they must be hiding in the model apartment cause sure doesnt look like there working!!what happened to there original maintence/staff? probably too embarassed to call that dump a home too! i know i was.

GOOD PLACE!
my daughter who goes to TAMUG just moved into these apts in the aftermath of hurricane IKE; they are very nice! clean, fresh paint!obviously, like all places on the island, they are still cleaning up and repairing things around the place but overall we are very happy; not noisey, parking is alittle hard somedays; not gated anymore as IKE took their gates out; not really hard to get to A&M campus as it takes about 15-20minutes.also, i have a cat and i am a humaine society foster mom to kittens but did not pay the extra pet fee for it and no one seems to mind.

Bad Management - Bad Property
I have been living in this complex since before Ike hit (Sept 14 2008). When the hurricane hit, the management (except for one member) hit the road because the damage was so overwhelming. The manager's replacement is extremely rude and uninterested in serving the people that she has been hired to serve. The management company waited until three months after the hurricane to begin repairing anything (fences, windows, mold in apartments) and as of this writing (Feb 4,2009) have only begun to scrape the surface of restoring the property to a livable condition. The complex is also not a good atmosphere if you have children or pets as pieces of insulation and glass still litter many areas. In response to complaints and the suggestion that children could be hurt when such materials are lying around, the manager replied "that's why we have insurance." I would not recommend this place to anyone in its current state and with its current management. They are extremely rude and unprofessional once you have signed the lease and moved in. The complex itself could use quite a bit of work and those in charge seem to be in no hurry to get the major things done, much less the things that one would want done in an apartment for which one pays so much.

Think before you rent here! Worst on island!
I've lived here at Newport at Campeche for almost one year and in this amount of time I have suffered through one month of no a/c during one of the hottest months of the year and I live on the 3rd floor! I was given every excuse in the book, but never an apology - I believe the real and only reason the replacement of my a/c took so long was due to the lack of money! Very poor management! The maintenance supervisor is top notch, but I have nothing good to say about his helper. Take a good look before you rent - yes, everything has been recently remodeled, but the work was done so poorly that the cheap labor is visible in everything new they had installed. My new kitchen cabinets were not installed level causing a huge gap which they tried to cover up with about a 2 inch thick caulking job - my closet doors have never stayed on the track - the new ceramic kitchen and floor tiles were installed improperly causing them to crack and gap - some bright individual made the decision to paint the bathtubs and ceramic tile wall surround - the paint didn't stick so it is peeling badly and looks terrible. I have friends in the complex who have all the same problems - one of them has had the bathtub and shower walls repainted 3 times in a year which is extremely inconvenient - I have chosen not to have this done since it doesn't appear to take care of the problem. During the summer months the pool can more often be found green and murky than clean and sparkly! This place will hound you for $1.00 with notices and phone calls, but try to catch someone in the office when you need them! Very poor management at every level. One more thing - ask to see any amenity they say they have - if they have it, I would be surprised, but if they do - ask to see it. Count on getting a washer and dryer in your apartment because the laundry facility is disgusting, rarely works even if you can wade through all the filth.

We thought about moving closer to UTMB since that's where I go to school, but truly, there's just not anywhere that is as nice, spacious, and safe for the price we pay. you really can't beat it and we plan to renew!

Excellent! Great area, quiet, safe, and pet friendly!
I have lived at Campeche Cove for the past year, and am only leaving because I have to relocate for work. I have had zero complaints during my stay. Staff is friendly and do whatever they can to help and keep you happy. I am a student, and I loved the fact that noise was never a problem here. Located on the west end of the island, there is not a lot of "traffic" around the complex. The lack of non-resident loitering and minimal traffic alos makes it a safe place to live. Often working late nights, I would come home sometimes between 3 and 5AM, and never once felt scared walking from the parking lot to my apartment. There is a local sheriff that lives in the complex as well, which helps I think. Many residents are UTMB medical and nursing students, as well as, a mixtures of families with young children. The pool is nice with plenty of deck space and chairs, and the club house is AMAZING--hardwood floors, leather couches, fooze ball table, pool table, kitchenette, and BIG screen TV! Great place to hold parties or just get outside of your apartment for a while. There is some construction going on right now, but it is minimal and will only help to make the complex a better place. I highly recommend Newport at Campeche Cove. They offer student discounts and are a very very pet friendly residence.

Great Place to Live
I moved to Newport in June 2007. I have loved living here. The apartment is newly renovated and the new office staff, Jamie and Marlene are wonderful. Jamie even took time out during the evening hours to come over and help me with a situation that the previous management had not taken care of. This community staff is so friendly and goes out of their way everyday to make sure you are happy in your home. The community grounds are well kept, the pool is always ready for use, and the lake view is gorgeous. It is a quiet complex and I have never felt safer in an apartment community. The only reason I am moving out is because of work relocation. I have talked with others on the island, and I feel that I made such a wonderful choice when I decided to move here.

Galvestons best kept secret!
This place is down on 103rd and I'm glad I found it. Really nice people in the office. I looked at the Broadwater and that Village on the sea place. Overpriced and think they are the only nice properties left in Galveston. I wasnt impressed. Lucked out driving down just a little ways and found Newport! Its a well kept secret down on the quiet west end- AWAY from Walmart & the noise. Who wants to live next to filthy Walmart! Anyway, check it out. They have a game room with a pool table, dart board, & foosball! And a cool weight room with bench press.

Good Apartments
Good apartments for a good price, when i first moved here i looked at damn near all the apartments in my price range, these were the best ones i found. One complaint i have is the remodeling was kinda shotty, i lived in the smallest single bedroom (A plan), i just recently moved into the largest bedroom (C plan), the A plan had paint over spray on everything, but the C plan had no problems, another complaint is the stairs are impossible to get a washer and dryer up and down, so something to consider is you will have to carry them above the hand rails to make the turns. But overall i like these apartments so far. Also i would like to say Marla and Cedric (The Maintenance Guy) are great people, Cedric saw me trying to move my washer and dryer in the rain, seeing i was making no progress he helped me get them to the 3rd floor and asked for nothing in return.

They are cheap and high rent
The model is nice, BUT move in and you will find out differently. Mold in the apartment. Paint overspray in the fireplace brick, bricks missing. Overspray on bathroom light fixture. New Dishwasher didn't work. Kitchen sink leaked. Paint came off the shower stall and backed up. Cracks in the walls. Silverfish in bathroom and large brown roaches. It smells musty. Overspray on outside window. Cracks in window pane. Fitness equipment never worked. Never was made ready for move in. They got to a certain point and quit. Windows have never been cleaned. It was just the most awful experience for anyone who has self respect for themselves. Management doesn't listen and fix anything for at least 2 weeks after the 1st complaint. Then you have to keep reminding them again and again. Nancy the manager is incompetent, all the other like to make you think they really care. They're lazy. All they want is to get you in and take rent money. Then don't care what problems you have the apartment. And the list goes on. Please listen, don't move there! You will regret it big time.

nice apartments, great views, super people
Oh come on. I just don't believe the reviews by a few disgruntled people are pulling down the scores of this nice apartment complex. These apartments have been renovated and they are really nice inside, new appliances, new carpet, ceramic tile, etc. But aside from that, there aren't too many other places where you can look outside your window and see fish jumping in the lake, turtles swimming right below the surface, and geese swimming by. But the best thing is the staff. The front office is very, very nice and helpful (well, one of the guys is kind of spacey) and the maintenance folks are nice, helpful, prompt and friendly. No apartment complex is going to be like the home you grew up in. Apartment living is what it is. Learn to like it or buy a home.

For every negative....add 10 positives that havent submitted reviews!
Heres the real deal: Newport is, by far, the BEST in Galveston! Have you ever noticed that when things are going great, no one takes the time to right a review...but let one little thing happen that you feel is bad, and you cant wait to let everyone know! Yes, the property went through changes/remodel. But change-especially in this case- can be a good thing! I lived at St. Thomas (now Newport) for over 2 years. Now in another town, I miss the serene, pleasant and QUIETNESS of this place so much. Remodeling is a HUGE undertaking, I can only imagine...I'm sure there were some inconveniences...but the same people you hear complaining about all the remodeling, are the same type of people that complain when there is road construction or an unexpected detour for repairs....never thinking about the End Result...the POSITIVE result! ...and now that is what you will get here at Newport....POSITIVES! I hated to leave, especially after all the wonderful new "goodies" they added. ...and my favorite part...its location on the island. It is so peaceful and quiet. Please dont listen to the negatives...I have a feeling that there is another side to these stories of horror you hear...Just wanted to set the record straight.

Ask the right people!!
Since I've resided at Newport (formerly St.Thomas) for over 10 years, I feel I speak from experience and I hope this helps you as a potential tenent or a new tenent. I have found that if you need questions answered or maintenance OF ANY KIND, your best avenue is to personally speak to Marla or her husband Cedric. They've been with this property as long as or longer than I've lived here and they want their tenants to be happy. I see where a number of you have had difficulty with the manager and some "front" personnel and I'm really sorry to hear that. Please, before you decide that this property is not for you, speak with those "in the know" like Marla or Cedric.

So hard to find something nice on the island!
I had been looking for an apartment on the island for about 3 months when I found this one. I am a medical student and only have so much money to spend on an apartment and finding a cheap one is easy, but one that's safe, nice, AND affordable on a student loan budget is nearly impossible. I had been looking over near the campus and didn't like any of those, and also looked on stewart road where some of my classmates suggested, but everything seemed either sketchy or unsafe. Then I went to Newport at Campeche and was blown away! The staff was so great-the girl in the front showed me 3 different one bedrooms and worked with me for like 2 weeks while i was waiting for my loan information to come in. It was awesome! No one had been that nice to me yet, so I pretty much made my decision based on how friendly she was. The fact that the interiors are completely brand new and they're still working round the clock to make the property look nice makes it even better. I was planning on going home for the summer but i think i might stay in galveston so i don't have to go throught the whole ordeal again--plus i won't risk losing a great apartment!

Sucks
Had to have an apartment really quick due to relocating, they were fixing everthing when I moved in 2006, but as I soon found out, they were just putting band-aids on everything, power goes out all the time due to electrical overloads, air goes out and get use to taking cold showers, they want renew your lease or give your depoait back for no reason, If they have someone they want to live here they will kick you out when your lease is up, just because they can, management changes to much and it takes maintenance 4 to 5 hours to get your power back on, I have actually had to work on the breaker box myself, they don't care. It is not woth what you pay. Enter at your own risk. These are not nice people.
