My experience at Ahsley Park has not been good. I signed a lease for my rent to be $825 I have been paying $850 since I got my first bill just for the rent. I have told leasing coun sultanas several times but every month it has not changed. I have packages delivered frequently but somewhere between the post office and leasing office someone lost my package. I don't think that I will be renewing this lease.

I have lived at Ashley park for years and loved it up until the management change. The new manager in the office is very rude. Don't let her smile fool you, she's a very nasty person. There's only one person who's in the office that seems to truly care. When ever I have maintenance issues, the maintenance staff alway make you think it's your fault something is broken however they were addressed in a timely manor. There Are a lot of pros to live at Ashley park but I think the cons are enough for me to move

Worst thing I have ever done! DO NOT RENT AN APARTMENT HERE! Lived there for two years started my rent at $730 a month by the end of first lease upped rent $70 a month was fine then the next time tried to up another hundred. So, that takes it up to $900 a month for a two bedroom apartment on the third floor! If your thinking of going here think twice. Not enough room on here to say all my complaints its that bad. 30 year old washer and dryer and the dryer stopped hheating they said it was fine after the 4th service call for it they still didn't fix it. It was still broke when we left. The electric bill is 200 a month for our apartment and the water bill is split between everyone in your bullding not cool

Price for apartment is too high
I have been living in Ashley Park for almost a year now and thought I got it for a good price. until my renewal notice came in 3 months before my lease ends and it went up $50 a month. When I went to the rental office asking why my lease was going up so high, they said becasue I lived in a newer model apartment. Yes, I did have new appliance becasue the person under me almost burnt the whole building but that is no reason to pay over $700 a month for a one bedroom in that community. The maintness staff are helpful but they come unannouced when there going to fix the apartment. i agree with others about the shower staying hot for only a few minutes. I had to call twice for them to fix that. They have a nice clubhouse but won't even let you use it. I keep going but overall I think they are too pricey for not a good area. And the ducks are annoying especially when your trying hurry out of the complex, the ducks will just sit in the middle of the road blocking you to drive around them.

Run away from Ashley Park as fast as you can!
Ashley Park was BY FAR the worst apartment I have ever lived in. That says a lot, considering my first place was government subsidized housing. Everything's gravy when they are trying to get you in the door, but as soon as the lease is signed, any assistance is tossed out of the window. When I first moved in, there was a hole in the wall (insulation showing), the hot water only lasted about 7 minutes in the shower, pantry light was broken, the large eye on the stove boiled water on low... the list goes on and on. After many unreturned voicemails, emails and office visits over a 6 week period, I finally had to scream that I demanded a manager and magically, most problems were resolved the next day. Beware, if you need something fixed, the only way to get immediate attention is to throw a temper tantrum and threaten to call corporate. Over the course of my stay there: 1) Maintenance came into my apartment and took everything out of my pantry while I was out of town without notice to me, claiming my neighbor had a flood. All of my items were left in the kitchen and I thoughtā¦Ā See More>anonymous

things have changed
I have lived at Ashley Park for 16 years and I have seen staff change. The message below is correct about the woman who worked the front desk. She was extremely rude, but the she is no longer at the office. Not sure what happened, but the staff now is very helpful and always nice. All the apartments just had all the piping replaced which of course was a much needed job. I do think it is a nice place and it is priced very nicely.

Awful tenement, DO NOT RENT HERE!
I have lived in several apartments in this area over the years, and I can state without any doubt that Ashley Park is by far the worst place I have EVER lived in my entire life. The maintenance people, while friendly, are utterly incompetent (and very messy). The rental office features the rudest, least helpful staff I have ever encountered anywhere. You WILL have problems here, and the staff will make it very clear that helping you solve them is not a priority for them. In particular, the woman who mans the front desk the majority of the time is PROFOUNDLY rude and unhelpful. If there were ANY managerial oversight here, she would have been fired long ago. The remainder of the staff is far less rude but equally unhelpful. Apartments flood frequently from the horrid water system, appliances are ancient and break down regularly. Garbage frequently is piled mountain high before the lone dumpster, often with giant rats scurrying about the base. There are regular burglaries and violent crimes. The rental office staff is too busy doing who knows what (certainly not working) to keep proper books, so expect to have billing errors every few months or so. Iā¦Ā See More>anonymous

THE WORSE DECISION YOU'LL EVER MAKE!!!!!!
I LIVED IN ASHELY PARK FOR TEN MONTHS-This was the worse decision I have ever made in my entire life. The office staff is super ------, the maintenance men are disguisting. They do not clean up after themselves and there is duck feces everywhere. Intially it looked like a nice complex but that's until you sign the lease-I should have known better when they told me there was a $275 "reservation fee" but it was not refundable when the lease is up. There are bugs, spiders and rodents everywhere. Take it from me.....DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!

Enjoyed most of the time:
My husband and I lived at Ashley Park for two years after relocating to Va. from Mn. I looked at many apts that were affordable and these apartments were far nicer for the money. The trash problem was resolved and we never saw "rats" anywhere. Pest control comes out although we never had a problem. Living on the patio level does allow outside critters like spiders, crickets etc access but no problem to remove them. I never used the pool. I loved the landscaping, the trees allowed me to feel like I was in a wooded area , the people seem to enjoy fishing there and I imagine they throw the fish back, I fed squirrels and loved the geese. Yes, they do poop but it is not like the place is over run with feces.I made my apartment homey and was comfortable. We had water problems but they were addressed. Some problems are timely and difficult tosolve due to the age of the building and pipes etc. but with the prices of apartments now I feel like I received a good deal. The office staff changed but I never had a problem in the 2 years we were there. The is aā¦Ā See More>anonymous

It's better than the alternative
I have been here only one month, but can tell you that living here is not nearly as bad as being homeless. No perfect living situation can be found, so this place is as good as any, with the exception that they gave me a chance that other complexes would not.

Not as Bad as People Say
I have read the other comments and everyone has their opinion on how they would like things to be. I have lived in Ashley Park for a year and plan on renewing my lease this week. I am a teacher, I have pretty good taste and am a young socialite and if didn't think this place was up to my "standards" I would not stay here. I have never had a problem with maintenence. I call, they come withim 48 hours. I had an emergency late at night and he came within 15 minutes. It is very quiet, lots of parking and the office staff is very helpful. One thing I felt was misleading was the fact that the water bill seems way too high and that you share the water with the whole complex. They really should change that. The pool is nice. It does what it's supposed to do, get you wet. The laundry room has working machines. I've never put my money in the washer or dryer and not have it work. My apartment was really nice and I decorated it to make it feel like home. I always get compliments on how nice the apartment is.ā¦Ā See More>anonymous

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.
Everything about this place is horrible. Before I moved in, I asked them how much utilities usually go for since it wasnt included in my rent. I was told water and sewer came to approximately $25 and that electricity came to about $50. What they fail to tell you is that they divide the total units water bill by the amount of tenants, therefore on holidays when I was in Atlanta (which is where I'm originally from) I was still getting water bills for $60. Also, the units are so old and worn out that it uses so much electricity to maintain the place. I never leave my ac on, I always turn off my lights to conserve energy and I still get bills for over a hundred bucks. My bathroom sink vibrates loudly whenever the tenant that lives above me turns on their ac. I'm not exaggerating when I say it vibrates so loudly, it woke my guest up from her sleep. Then there are the geese that poop everywhere and make walking to your car a nightmare. Management doesnt even bother to clean up the mess. As far as safety, there are cops here every other weekend. RUN RUN RUN
This is the worst apartment complex ever.....They have bad busted pipes that constantly leaks...your apartment floods out and they have they nerve to point the finger at the tenants...They do half --- jobs when it comes to maintaining the property. The appliances are so outdated and needs to be updated ASAP. The pool is filthy...Lets not talk about the electricity....we pay double the amount for heat and ac....near $300 in electricity alone...cable is not free...they add it in your rent when it is actually free (just plug the cable line into the wall). The washer and dryer sucks...their is always bugs around...I can go on and on and on...just dont do it.......

A Word to the Wise Should be Sufficient
Don't do it! I realized my mistake within the first 30 days. My lease is almost up and I'm very happy to be moving. It boils down to the deceitful way they do business. They have a hard sell approach and leave a lot of things unsaid. The 13 page lease should be your first clue. These are apartments on a fast decline. Yes, the club house is beautiful and looking at the pool from a distance, it looks like a paradise. Once you get close to the pool you can see it is not properly maintained. The gorgeous waterfall comes over a ledge where the concrete has worn away. The paint at the bottom of the small pool is coming off. The motor between the rocks has worn away and is unsafe - It is a tragedy waiting to happen. The exterior of the buildings that house the apartments are deteriorating. Check the railings for rot. The appliances are old and outdated. It takes 90 minutes to dry one small load. The apartments are NOT energy efficient - you lose a great amountā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Should have left it at 1
My 1st yr living here was great, I lived here back in 2005-2006....i loved everything about it. My 2nd yr....I've never hated a place so much....ever. I feel like for the price that i am paying, I should get more....not just the space, but satisfaction from the property just coming home. The trash compactor seems to break far too often than it should. I would like to see them renovate these apartments....my vertical binds have been missing pieces since i moved in...I reported it twice, but still it was not fixed....so i ended up taking pieces from the side to fill the ones in the middle that were missing :-/....should not have to do that. There are far too many potholes (in the front of the complex) There was problems with fleas around my building from one of the dogs around here and they ended up getting in my apt, on my cat (who does NOT go outside i might add). One night I came home and had just socks on b/c my feet started hurting, when i step right inside the door and turned the light on (I was leaning against my front door still) I saw that my socks hadā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Worst place I have ever lived
In the summer you can walk across the lakes due to the thick covering of algae. Be sure to wear good shoes to the dumpster in order to stomp the literally dozens of large RATS you will run into. I have been a tenant for almost two years and have never been late on rent. However, I kept getting eviction notices and promises of court if I did not pay various sums of money. When I go to the office and deal with the rude and idiotic staff I would simply get a, "Sorry, wrong apartment." Several of my friends have also lived here and had similar issues and even had MAJOR maintenance issues that were ignored until the staff got over their hangover. Maintenance issues included rodents, multiple pipes bursting, mold, bugs, and multiple appliances malfunctioning. This place is absolutely ridiculous, I would recommend the projects over this place. Also, they will continually raise your rent. YOUR ARE NUTS IF YOU MOVE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a great place to live...
When I arrived to Richmond, Va in 2007 I was accustomed to a certain type of lifestyle. Coming from Washington, Dc I was used to housing holding a certain standard. I was afraid that the housing in Richmond's southside would be poor and unkept. To my surprise I came to visit Ashley Park and was thoroughy impressed and have been since becoming a tenant. I have to agree that I have not been totatally satisfied with the timely response to issues regarding maintanence. In the beginning the rental office staff weren't on the page with communication but worked hard to resolve all issues raised. They are courteous, respectful, helpful, and efficient. I appreciate them for their hard work and efforts to meet my needs as a resident.

NOT as bad as these people say
I've lived in Ashley Park for the past year and I can identify with some of the complaints people have written but overall it's not that bad around here. I will agree that Joy, the property manager, is fake, unpersonal, and generally unpleasant. However, Darcy, who also works in the office, is always smiling, friendly, helpful, and never seems agitated if I need to pick up a package. Christy is also friendly. The trash problem seems to be because people don't hit the button on the compactor to start it. My neighbors are all very friendly and for the most part very quiet. I read where someone had a complaint about the fountain in the pond. I think they put that there to control algae. It's more an aerator than a fountain. I did have problems with maintenance at first but that was a different maintenance man. He never seemed to know too much about anything he was doing and came out three times unsuccessfully to fix the same problem before an outside contractor was finally called. The new maintenance guys are much better. Overall it's not a bad place to live. I've been here about a year and hadā¦Ā See More>anonymous

I had no problems during my stay in Ashley Park. I found the office staff great, and they were always responsive and attentive to any questions I had. My only negative with the complex was that maintenance could be a little slow...but they did fix the problem once they got to it. Well, I think they could do a little better job on the fountain, but that isnt a major issue either. My experience there was great, and I would recommend it to anyone.

By far...the most unprofessional staff I have ever encountered!!!
I have lived in Ashley Park for about a year and some change and I must say this is the worst place I have ever lived. The property manager, Joy, pretends to be so professional; however, she never returns phone calls and makes you feel as though you are bothering her when YOU are the resident paying to live in this ---- hole. She also talks smart to you and tries to have Cristi (the only one with some sense and professionalism) do her "dirty work". They are so quick to evict people who may fall a few weeks behind (not me...I have never been late...I hear from other residents); however, there are people who have not paid their rent IN MONTHS, who do not get evicted nor a notice. A few months ago, a neighbor's apartment flooded due to some pipe in the wall and the ceiling is collapsing in their bathroom. The owners of the dump have yet to contact them regarding repair. I also heard that they received numerous health code violations in the past year. Could be why I am always sneezing and crap. Piece of advice to anyone thinking of moving here... DON'T...it will saveā¦Ā See More>anonymous

The most horrible complex I have ever lived in
So it is funny to me that people who live here really enjoy living in the complex. They enjoy having trash overflow out of the one and only dumpster on site. (And it does not happen because people don't push the stupid button) They hire incompetent maintance people, like Doug the old guy that for some reason now doesn't work here. Where should i start with that dumb ---. Everytime they would send him into my place to fix it, he would eiether make the problem worse or break something else before the time he left. Danny the maintance guy may have not had much experience but he did fix all the problems that may have happened or that Doug may have messed up. Althought my problems got fixed they were never fixed in a timely matter. I have been flooded in my apartment 3 times to date. One time the the lovely management staff decided to take shortcut and hire the cheapest contracting company they could and when they got done, I took the first shower and the pipes blasted a hole through my laundry room wall spraying everywhere. And of course it took a total of 3 weeksā¦Ā See More>James
