The Shay is an apartment with good amenities and location. Located in Shaw, you are a walking distance to a number of popular bars, restaurants, and clubs along with everyday essentials such as grocery stores and CVS.

I love my unit and the location cannot be beat. However, the process of actually signing the lease turned out to be a headache. Now that I have moved in, I would definitely recommend the community because it is beautiful.

The Shay offers a great community and staff. The access to nightlife, shopping, and food is also great. I use the rooftop and gym a lot - and many times there's only one or two other people using that amenity at the same time.

The Shay is awesome! Everything has been exceptional from the leasing process (**Saudia is a BOSS), to move in, to maintenance, to the amenities to the location. It get's a bit loud on U street friday and saturday nights, but otherwise it's perfect! Highly recommend

The Shay has wonderful staff and the building is fantastic! It's right in the heart of the Shaw community and the shopping, nightlife and transportation surrounds you. Some of the apartments have some noise, but no more than you would have in another downtown location.

The first year here my experience was okay. This second year has been not so good. The money you pay for these apartments is not reflective of the service that you get. The elevators are always out of service. The fire alarm routinely goes off and these are false alarms. Often you don't get explanations of why this is occurring. Poor management at its best.

The Shay is located in a great neighborhood, Shaw, near Howard University. The building has great amenities, the apartment was in wonderful condition and I was able to get a short term lease. This was perfect for me.

The roof deck and pool are beautiful amenities that I use often but never seem terribly crowded. The apartments are well-sized and the appliances new and working well. The units overlooking the street can hear street noise on busy weekend nights but otherwise I have no complaints.

The folks who run the Shay are incredible welcoming and helpful, while also laid back and down to earth. It made me feel at home immediately. They take great care of the space, and I have felt welcome to ask as many questions / request as much help with apartment-related things as needed while settling in.

I've loved my time here at the Shay. The restaurant selections nearby are trendy, and the apartments themselves are beautiful. The maintenance staff is very helpful, and the amount of natural light in the apartments is perfect.

I've had a great experience overall in the Shay. The concierge, cleaning, and maintenance staff are all wonderful and the amenities (fitness center, pool, compass coffee on weekdays) are all great. A few things to note: the Shay, like all brand new 'yuppie dorms' in DC, still has some kinks that are being worked out, e.g. the Transit screen in the East building only works sometimes, they haven't set up the buzz-in feature so you can buzz up your guests, some apartments have slightly shoddy construction. It's all minor and overall the benefits definitely outweigh the costs -- I've been in lots of my friends' apartments in DC and definitely think the Shay is one of the best. Another consideration is the neighborhood and also the other Shay residents and the overall vibe -- it's a very young, trendy, gay-friendly, party-hardy neighborhood, which means that Friday and Saturday nights are VERY loud in the neighorhood, and weekends at the Shay pool can sort of feel like the male version of 'Girls Gone Wild' over spring break. (Lots of alcohol/glass bottles/open containers/ loud music and far too many people in the pool.) In the summer it definitely feels like the Shay should be limiting the # of guests allowed at the pool, otherwise current residents can't enjoy it.

It has been great thus. very clean. fantastic having the rooftop grill. It would be nice to have several more free weights in the fitness center. I enjoy being able to walk out the front door and have access to different food options.

Apartments are new, modern and sleek. The complex has a gym, outdoor pool and several common areas to handout & socialize. Great place to live, especially if you are alone in a new city. Very hip & trendy neighborhood with a young vibe. The neighborhood is clean and beautifully maintained. There are plenty of shops and places to eat.

I just moved into the apartment building last weekend, but thus far it has been a great experience. The staff were very proactive prior to the move in letting me know all of the steps I needed to take, and were very responsive in answering my questions. They were incredibly helpful on the move-in day. While there were a few issues in the apartment when I first got in, the maintenance staff & systems are quick and reliable.
