The move in experience has been really good so far. The apartment is just as it was presented before we signed the lease, and the staff is very responsive and helpful with all questions we have. The common areas are very spacious and clean as well.

Poor management staff. Unprofessional, rude, and intimidating after lease signature is completed. I think the quality of the building and amenities is great. And the neighbors are mostly professionals and polite/kind. However, staff could use a shake up.

Very nice and new apartments, excellent location in regards to nightlife, good food and other services. Nice amenities, like a pool, lounge, great views from the rooftop but above all it is the responsiveness of the staff that drew me to The Shay.

The community is great but I am not impressed with the quality of the IZ units. Some of the fixtures seemed to be thrown together and my apartment has plumbing issues. I have complained about the plumbing issues since I moved in--Jan 2016 but they persist.

Moving into a brand new community is great, but what really sets this property apart is the staff!! They are so thoughtful, courteous, and a general pleasure to deal with. From accommodating large deliveries, to sending out property communications, we feel very well cared for!

Great location, nice amenities, not the best apartment for the price. Fixtures are relatively low quality. Rooms compared to living areas are very small in proportion. The building has a few flaws. One flaw is there is only one method to get to apartments (via elevators) and they too often do not function properly impeding full and easy access to apartment. Fans in bathroom cannot be turned off, so if you enjoy steam, that is not an option here.

My move was easy do to the staff that was helpful in every way possible.The residents are friendly including security that patrols our buildings.The Shay also throws events that are fun and good way to interact with other residents.Awesome place to live.

Terrible; I do not recommend it. The noise level is unbelievable and the quality for what you pay is ridiculous. The staff here is incredibly nice, which is the only good thing I have to say at this point. I would not recommend this place to anyone

Fantastic staff. They are friendly and responsive. The community areas are modern and always kept up nicely. The location is fantastic close to metro, bus, restaurants, and a grocery store. The units are modern with good applicants and lots of windows.

The Shay has been excellent for the first two weeks I have lived there. I am looking forward to the remainder of my tenancy. Only downsides thus far are small washer / dryer, and some poor design choices in the apartment making it difficult to find correctly sized items.

New apartments are coming up around the area. A new condo building is restricting light to come in into the pool area. A few safety concerns around the neighborhood need to be addressed by the city. A grocery store is lacking.

The Shay is a great community and has everything you could possibly want within footsteps of your apartment. The staff is fantastic and are always very helpful and dependable. I have only been living in the building for 3 months, but I am excited to see the neighborhood develop even more and meet great new people here.

I have seen a couple waves of incompetent management, but the most recent rendition seems to be the best so far. However, there are still very basic professional things that they don't do, which baffles me and is extremely annoying. I have shared this sentiment with multiple previous tenants after many failed attempts with the management to address it. The management often blames first, then apologizes later. I have literally had at least 4 time-intrusive instances where I would point out a mistake and they immediately go on the offensive without investigating. For example, a few months after I moved in, my A/C wasn't working in the summer. I called the utilities company to make sure it wasn't me, then I called management if other tenants have experienced any issues and whether they could come to check it. I have experience with cooling systems and told them that I don't think it's a thermostat issue probably a defective O-ring. I was told that I would get someone sent up immediately. An hour later, no one came, I called again. Again, they said they would send someone. Finally, after calling again and a couple hours later, they send CONCIERGE people, not the maintenance personnel I asked for. And because it took them 3 hours, those personnel went home. They were going to call them back, but I said I could wait until tomorrow and I was assured they would fix it by the time i came home from work that day. When I came back, no notice, no nothing, and my apartment was still in the 80-85 degrees range. I called and the same person I spoke with replied "Oh they didn't come up." Long story short, it was a defective O-ring, the maintenance person never got the note, and it took them 2 weeks to get the new O-ring because they wanted to order through the insurance. Also, this was not the first time an apartment had the same issue in the same month. I had to deal with 80 degree plus in my apartment in the heat of the summer for two weeks, and they "compensated me" with a gift card. The management's pattern is to blame and apologize later. There was an issue with my automatic payment which i set up online, and I had multiple email conversations assuring me that they would take care of the glitch. Next month, I received a hard copy notice slipped under my door that I missed a payment (first time ever) and that they would pursue legal action/eviction if not paid. It literally look a few more correspondence to correct it, and all they said was sorry, even though they blamed me for their own mistake. I had a few other instances where I was locked out (keys in the apartment) and they misplaced my spare key. After the first instance, they assured me they would make sure the spare would be found. A few months later, when I was locked out again, it was still missing and it took them a while to finally get a replacement. Another time, I came home late at night and tried to park in the parking garage which I pay for. All the spots were full, and I called the front desk. The concierge essentially told me tough luck and they could try to reach security, but couldn't do much. It was close to midnight so I asked could I at least park in one of the handicap spaces that no one uses until they find out who is illegally parking. She told me it was at my own risk and I would get towed. This happened again a few days later and I emailed management. NO EMAIL response, which I expected as a general courtesy. Instead they sent out an email to the condo community that illegal parkers would get towed. Baffling enough, the following week, I got a notice on my windshield that I was illegally parked, when my stickers were clearly posted where they required. It seemed I was crazy to expect an apology. Fed up with the parking situation, I decided to get not pay for parking and not use my car in the building so I asked if I could return the garage key and sticker and get prorated. They said I had to wait until the end of the month. I complied and promptly turned in my stuff at the end of the month and I asked the leasing agent IN PERSON for a confirmation email, which he said he would send me. A couple weeks later they still charged me for parking. I emailed management notifying that I was wrongly charged and gave them back everything. AGAIN, they blamed me and said they had no record and the charge would stand. I promptly emailed them with the time/date/person in the leasing office that I dropped off the items to in person. No apology this time, they just took off the charge. Additionally, I've had instances where they lost packages at the concierge as well. I have given multiple waves of management change chances, but this place is ridiculous with how they treat tenants. It's no wonder there is a lot of turnover. We pay a lot for basic service and professionalism. Generally in person, the staff are professional, but words don't mean much with actual action, and it's the reason why I am planning on moving. I've lived in multiple properties in DC and this is one of the most disfunctional managements that I have experienced.

Overall the experience has been great. The amenities are nice and the building is kept clean. The main concierge and cleaning staff are always very friendly. One comment that seems consistent in most most communities in the area is that the W/D gets error messages regularly.

The Shay management team is the worst I have encountered in any apartment community I have ever lived in. The amenities and community are great, but the management staff have fostered a manufactured crisis with another tenant who complains about water on his outdoor balcony below ours, they have threatened us with eviction, entered our apartment without required prior notice, issued us bills in error after they mixed up our electric meter with another tenants, and have repeatedly forced us to burn our own time solving their problems. The lack of professionalism, poor communication skills, failure to adhere to their own rules, and constant harassment has made this living experience very unpleasant. We have been reliable loyal tenants since moving in, have never been late on payments, and we have brought in other tenants to help fill the building. We will not be resigning a lease and we have shared our story with our friends. Do not move into the Shay unless you are willing to spend much of your personal time working to clean up their messes. AVOID.

The amenities are fantastic. The rooftop has one of the best views I've seen of the city. Garage is very convenient. Location is great, has a lot of shops and new restaurants nearby. Very close to the metro. Staff is very kind and extremely friendly

Everyone that works in the building is great but a lot of the things in the building don't work most of the time. The Internet in the gym hasn't worked in a long time and it's not possible to change the channel. The elevator is constantly broken and for some reason there is no external stairwell that is convenient to enter the building. That being said just want to reiterate that everyone who works in the building is extremely friendly and so helpful with everything.

The apartment looks amazing and has a great contemporary feel. The surrounding neighborhood is equally amazing and clean. I love the in house laundry and stainless steel appliances. The hardwood floors give an extra added modern look. !!
