seriously, some of these reviews sound like whiney children are writing them. yes, its an older apartment, did you not take a tour before you signed on the dotted line?! guess what, you get what you pay for & this is an excellent apartment for the money. besides that, the walls are practically sound-proof, i loved that about these apartments. i never heard my neighbors ONCE. and ONLY ONCE did i have an issue with a crotchety old woman neighbor whining about hearing me. not too shabby for an apartment. i lived there for 2 yrs, from may 10 - april 12 and i only moved because of work. it was fine. maintenance took care of everything almost immediately, parking was ample, i think i DIDNT get a spot directly in front of my apartment maybe 4 times the entire time i lived there. the office staff is incredibly nice & reasonable. even after i moved out and left a mess, they are still working with me on a payment plan for what i owe. i would move back here in a minute, if the location worked for me. im a single mother and i have no qualms about this complex whatsoever. (also, regarding the bugs - clean your apartment to minimize it, otherwise realize the fact that you LIVE IN AN APARTMENT!! if someone else is dirty and has roaches, thats not complexes fault! call them and tell them to have the pest guy stop by your place, duh.)

I love this Place!!

The office staff is wonderful, they have treated me like family and not just like another rental number, I love my new apartment and it is BIGGER than I expected it to be not smaller. My neighbors are great and I am excited to be a part of this community.

Great apartments and community

Lived there in 2009-2010. Very nice apartments and scenes and I enjoyed living there. They do great things for their residents, the grounds are kept clean, it's quiet. Nice area. Screened-in patios and W/D connections are a must in apartments and they provide that, which is nice. The staff is helpful as well, professional and care about the community and residents.

Awful place, not safe, rude staff.

This place has been a pain in my neck since well...almost immediatly since I moved here. There were a few things that didnt seem right when I was signing up and everything but I assured myself it was just me being paranoid. They didnt have my apartment until a week after my move in date and were very rude and didnt even apologize for their own mistake. Cost me so much due to the rented moving truck, my electric had already been set up & was ON in the apartment while I had to wait for them to have it ready for a week. Finally after moving in my air conditioner broke after two days and they didnt consider it an "emergency" so I had to sweat for two days until they sent someone out. It is loud and lots of teenagers/college kids hang out there and theres a party at least once a week. Beer bottles litter the streets and you can tell drugs are being used cause theres bags and once I even saw a crack pipe in the lawn. Not safe, all around dump, will be moving out soon though I'm so excited!! Beware because the staff likes to come on here and respond to these complaints as if they are real renters--disagreeing with how awful the place is!

Great value in Tampa

I loved my stay at Newport Apartments & would definately recommend this to someone on a budget. This location is the BEST! Very close to everything & easy to get in & out. Maintenance did take care of my issues promptly. I enjoyed walking my dog around the lake in the mornings and sitting on my patio in the evenings. I was lucky - great neighbors as well made me treasure my experience at Newport.

Try it again...

Ok, I gotta giveit to the new staff @ Newport Apartments. I came in here back in Sepember and I have to say I was not impressed. They called me back to see if I had found an apartment, which I hadn't (still livin' w/ the parents and saving money). So a few weeks later I thought I would swing by. I was impressed with the new girls in the office. They were happy to greet me. I took a look around and saw that they are making improvements and the apartments they should me were in great shape. Thanks Lisa for taking the time to show me around. I am definitely considering moving to Newport Apartments!

i visited for two weeks to see if i wanted to move there from Jersey

I liked my nieces apartment at napoleon court. we had plenty of space to park, but the pool does not look inviting at all. I saw too many people drinking alcohol early in the day out in public which i am not use to since jersey has laws against that type of stuff. What i did not like was too much noise outside our bedroom window. I am by no means old and cranky but i work full time and go to school full time and need tranquility. I could give you some ideas on how to make the place more welcoming if you ask.

Enjoyable place to live

I have lived at newport for like 4 months now and i dont have any problems or complaints. The maintenance guys here are some of the best i have seen because they take care of the problem the same day. The people in the office are actually friendly and they really do get things done. I know this first hand because I had an extremely noisy neighbor that lived upstairs from and me that would throw parties all the time. After I made a call to the office its like as if the person doesnt even live there anymore. I was reading on here all the negative things that people write and i could say that in my opinion i dont think any of that is true. I would recommend this place to my friends and i say check it out for yourself before you make any decisions.

Do not move here (buyer Beware)

The apartment looks nothing like the model. there is a 3 inch gap in my door to let out all of the air. the dishwaher leakes puddles in the kitchen, and the A/C works when it feels like it... The management does not work with you, and get mad when you fill out a work request, actually saying "what else do you want from us." I would not recomend this apartment to my enemy.... very bad...

Great Staff!

Ive been living here for over 1 year and I love it! When I first moved in, there were only a couple minor problems with the apartment but were fixed before I finished unpacking. Every time I call in to ask a question the office is more than happy to help me out. The prices are excellent for the square feet you get and the pool is beautiful!!! They just started a thing called "resident appreciation night" where they have Papa Johns Pizza in the parking lot so as soon as you come home you dont have to worry about cooking! I also got $200 from the office because my best friend moved in too. Live here! Its GREAT!!! :D

Took a chance that paid off

I took a chance and moved into Newport Apartments last June even though my friends told me they had heard bad things. The area is great and the floor plans and prices were good too so I took a chance and moved in. After I moved in they got a new manager and everything is great. The response time for maintenance is quick, the property has new flowers and landscaping and the new manager is very nice. I am glad that I moved here and I am going to renew my lease. The area is really great and I have been really happy here.

Horrendous Experience

My wife and I lived at Newport for about 18 months, and overall, it was probably the worst experience either of us have ever had in our many years of apartment living. In all fairness, however, I must give credit where credit is due and praise the complex for the few things it does have going for it: 1) It is very quiet. Most likely, this is due to an increasing number of shrewd potential residents read all the no doubt truthful horror stories on this web site and then wisely choose an alternate place of residence. 2) Parking is widely available. 3) Each unit has a monitored security system. Now for the negatives...if you would like to use the restroom or grab a refreshing beverage, now would be the time to do so: 1) Maintenance. When we first moved, there was a maintenance worker by the name of Tim who was ridiculously helpful. He once came and fixed a possessed toilet at 1:00 in the morning. He left a few months after we moved in though, it was all downhill from there. I think the best illustration of the utter incompentence of the maintenance staff occured about one month prior to our departure in August. Our water heater ceased functioning entirely, and despite repeated visits and verbal requests, it remained out of commission for seven days. Had we been wise enough to put our original request for maintenance in writing, then the complex would have been in violation of state law for not repairing it within a three day time frame. 2) Staff. The staff follows what is likely a business model at many second-rate apartment complexes. Their treatment of their residents becomes increasingly worse the longer they reside there. The turnover rate in the office is absurd. Every few months saw at least one person leave to be replaced with another disinterested individual. 3) Management. Here is the real kicker. The original manager of the complex (who was overall pretty good) left literally right before we found out we were going to be moving back to Texas because of a job transfer. It was, therefore, on the new manager's second week at work in the summer of 2008 that I spoke with her about our need to break our lease because I was getting a new job in Texas. I spoke with her on the phone about breaking the lease, and I asked her if our provision of 60-days notice would be sufficient for us to be able to avoid paying the duration of our rent, which would have been nearly $6,000. She was very accomodating and assured me that because we were providing enough notice that we would not be held accountable for vacant rent. Being from Texas, where a person's word actually means something, I made the mistake of believing her. Then, nearly a month after moving to Texas, my wife and I received a letter from a credit reporting agency, notifying us that we owed Newport nearly $6,000. We then pored over our lease and realized that, sure enough, the jerks had us backed into a corner, and that, no matter what the manager had told me, we were legally obligated to pay that money. Ultimately, the issue is not one of legality but one of professionalism and basic human decency. When I spoke with the manager on the phone, it is pretty clear to us now that her intention was merely to tell me what I wanted to hear, all the while intending to stick it to us once we were out of the state. In other words, she flat-out lied. Here is where the prospective resident needs to be forewarned. While we possessed no legal recourse to remedy our situation and paid them the money that we owed legally, we do feel morally bound to ward off potential future victims. As you converse with the manager, you must constantly remind yourself that she is a nothing more than a liar. If you're okay forking over 25 percent of you your monthly paycheck to a liar, then that's your problem. If you would rather deal with someone who is genuine and honest, then PLEASE rent elswhere!

The worst management ever!!!

Please do not move in this apartment complex. Management is not more than headache. They don't help for anything and create problems to their residence. They start to hire people who look very dangerous. Community is not safe at all!!!

Very Unprofessional! Don't move here!

Newport Apartments possess a very unprofessional staff with minimal leasing knowledge. I moved out in July of 08 with a zero balance. The apartment community never sent a certified letter stating why they did not return my deposit. This is a Florida law! I received a phone call on Oct 6th from a collection agency stating that I owed $1000. FYI to everyone out there, if you do not receive a certified letter within 30 days of moving out you are entitled to 3x times the deposit. I will be taking them to small claims court and will be writing letters to the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Reports, and Channel 9. The only reason I'm going through this much work is so that maybe I'll save some new residents time and money.

Never been so disappointed!

Well apparently the only thing Newport has going for them is ample parking! The maintenance doesn't have a clue in what they are doing - why not just hire a monkey to do your job (and I bet they could do a better job!), the staff are a bunch of morons that they just picked up off the street, nobody knows what they are doing, or just say they'll be in to fix the problems (a/c has been leaking for 3 going on 4 months, mold growin in utility closet, leak above shower head - and now have a whole in ceiling for them to repair, but they never did-now have bugs coming out of the opening!) - they set up appointments and don't show up, or they just have their thumb up their --- 3 quarters of the time. Apparently us residence have to sit their and take time off work (which i've done on several occasions - maintenace lost the key to my apartment and they wanted me to bring mine in to make another copy!) Made them change the locks! I definitely would not recommend this apartment to anyone unless you like well below living with the high price of living luxury! I have now contacted Hillsborough County Code Enforcement and I'm sure I'm not the only resident this is happening to!

You'd think your living in the ------

I lived here for three years, over the past year this place has gotten worse than section 8 Apartments. The pools so dirty that i got E coli from it . three months ago a water line broke in the apartment adjacent to me and it took the management here four weeks to deal with the mold problem and all they did was get some labors to spray bleach on it and paint over it .

DO NOTTTTTTTTTT RENT HEREEEEEEEEEEEEEE STAY AWAYYYYYYYY this place is a black hole there is only one maintenance man for 350 apartments and the pool is green all the time the leasing office got broken into the other night and some ladys car window was broken and things were stolen. The grounds are filthy and there is litter everywhere broken beer bottles and empty drug baggies all over the grass there are young kids who hang out at the pool and smoke pot and curse with no regard for who is around children or elderly alike the gym has OLDDDD equiptment that is rusted and falling apart this place is horrible they never replace anything here they are cheap and in my opinion they are headed for chapter 11 if you know whats good for you you wont rent here plus the prices here are not great the staff is terribly rude anita has no people skills and angie has no idea what she is doing there i think she got what ever degree she has from a cracker jack box they are all rude over there all they do is sit around smoking out front and god help you if you have a problem your on your own there is a huge alligator in the lake that people feed raw chicken to and one lady told me that some lady that moved out of here got her dog eaten by the alligator. i dont not feel safe here at all they let all types of thugs move in here lately there have been about 7 domestic disputes here in the last 2 weeks someone got beat up pretty bad right out side my house and they left the blood on the floor and my dog tried licking thats pretty gross so like i have 2 more months in my lease and im out of here id rather live in the sheltter than this place its probably safer there this place is horrible dont walk run away from here dont sign a leaseeee

This place is ok.. The office staff is ok.. Not the best but with so many changes in mgt what can you expect. I believe the Maintenance supervisor quit about 2 weeks go.I have not seen him and he was very good worker and very professional... Ever since he left the pool is GREEN.. Things are not getting done.. Now there is someone new and has no idea what the heck he is doing..... They need to check nd see who works for them at least a more qualified person to do the job......

Unhappy renter!

Newport apartments is by far the worst place I have lived! Sure it's cheap, I only pay 600 28 for water per month. However, before signing the lease in front of us, Karen told us our water was free. We said, great and signed. Two days later we were called by Karen and were told our lease had been re-done and needed to be re-signed because we have a "view" and our water is NOT free.. Okay, so $28 a month is not much BUT this was not our mistake..why should we be punished? BTW, our so called view.. Hillsborough ave.. traffic at all hours, motorcycles and semi horns at 3am. Some view I tell ya! So, the inside? more than half of the electrical outlets do not work. I believe our stove and dishwasher are the original ones from 1985! The dishwasher is not bolted in and falls forward all the time. The refrigerator is VERY yellow with stains that refuse to budge. The stove has broken twice in the 6 months we have lived here. Instead of giving us a new one, they come to my apartment make a mess while trying to fix it. My bathroom! Before we even moved in, I noticed how dirty the bath tub tile looked.... In need of a very good cleaning! I have discovered, its not worth cleaning.. after bleaching.. the mold/mildew is back within a week.. The parking.... you are lucky to be able to park 3 buildings away, 7 buidings if you come home after 8pm! Oh the noise, the horriable noise! There are new people in one building over (still attached to me though) are always playing loud music and argue very loudly! One night I heard a woman screaming so badly, I though she was being killed. After about 10 minutes of this, I went outside and and spoke with several others who informed me the police were on the way.. not 2 weeks later they were at it again. They will let anyone live here! Needless to say, our lease will not be renewed. We can't wait for this to end!

My fiancee and I moved in over a year ago and our lease is up--however we are not renewing. As others have stated, the "show-room" apartment was immaculate, however, the rental apartments isn't as great. These apartments are old, and as with any aging building comes wear-and-tear on the apartment. The electrical outlets are falling out of the wall--there are cracks in the counter and there is a never-ending issue with roaches (pest control only comes once every three months). We have to kill roaches every other day, and it's disgusting when you find one crawling on your counter. Maintenance is good, they're usually prompt. Someone amateurs attempted to break into my car in May (caused damage but didn't make off with anything because they couldn't get in)--and that's the ONLY time I've seen the cops out here because I had to call them. This complex would do well if they'd invest in a controlled access gate. This complex is under contract with a crappy cable/internet company called Ygnition--so you'll do best to get a satellite dish and Verizon high speed. Apartments are well insulated, and we didn't have to run our heater during the winter. We're only moving because the apartment is so old and the kitchen is unbearably small.

UNCLE

I have been here for two years. The apt I rented from out of state looked great when i visited they showed me a pristine model apt and I was thrilled to get into one. When I arrived, the unit was not ready, the carpet was DISCUSTING, the bathroom mirror was Rotting off the wall and MOLD was everywhere! Because I had no choice or extra cash I had no recorse and was forced to live in the nastyness. Last summer I stepped out my front door to have the man that lives up stairs urinate on my head when I went to the office they did nothing! I had given up on the place and decided to move to a different complex. The manager was reluctant to make any allowances for this move and offered me a larger apt at a great price so I accepted and they have had three months to get the new unit ready. Fri June 27th was my move in date and I spoke with the managers to make sure preperations were complete. I arrived at the office in the morning to dicover we had had a change in mangers and no one in the building had any idea of what I was taking about. No keys no lease, no apt was ready! Now what do I do?

Stay away!

The place was decent when we moved in last year, since then it has gone way down hill. Last week the cops were here 3 days in a row, two break-ins (in broad daylight!), and a homeless man being thrown down a set of stairs. Last night I was awoken at 2am by someone across the street banging on a door from the outside for over 20 minutes. Management is horrible, and with one exception they seem like they have never dealt with the public before. Anita is without question one of the rudest people I have ever met. How she got this job I will never know. We complained for months about the people on the other side of the wall. They screamed, yelled, and slammed into the wall late at night on most nights. Nothing was done. Finally, after 6 MONTHS of unpaid rent they were evicted. Pathetic. The maintanance staff is pathetic. Slow to respond to anything, they sit at an apartment and drink beer during the day. Does management know? Yes. Have they done anything? No. I don't feel safe having this maintainance crew anywhere near my apartment. We already feel like we pay too much here, and now rent is apparently going up by $100 and water is not being included anymore. We will be moving out when our lease is up, without question. My apartment has almost been broken into once, and my fiancee does not feel safe, so if anything else happens we will be breaking our lease. DO NOT RENT HERE! YOU WILL BE SORRY!
