Apartments in this postwar building are uninteresting in architecture and fixtures. However, the rooms are large and there are abundant closets. The concierge service is great, and the maintenance staff and service are superlative. The rents are very high for what you get, except for the location.

Something this building should have done sometime in the last 24 years I have been here is to replace these single pane, leaky, sometimes rattling window. It could have saved the building mega dollars over the last 20 years and made my office much less drafty and cold and much more comfortable.

I have lived in Carnegie Mews for a few years. The building offers good amenities: doorman, laundry, roof access, is close to central park, etc. However, the street traffic (even on high floors) is noisy, the elevators are constantly broken, and whenever there is construction (for instance - the front door) it seems to take weeks upon weeks to be completed. It's a decent apartment with a good amount of space, in a convenient location, but you can get more for your money elsewhere from what I've seen.

You're not any better off than living on the street. The windows are paper thin and there is never a moment's peace - construction, garbage trucks, ambulances, cop cars, and traffic all day! Management knows about it and doesn't care.

Carnegie Mews is an old building that lack maintenance. Windows are old (single pane) and poorly efficient in terms of noise and heat. Heating system is old and exhaust a lot of dust, causing dry throat. Works/maintenance are sometimes done without warning and from 6:30 am and/or during holiday. The only reason I live at Carnegie Mews is the location, but I will probably move next year for the aforementioned reasons. I would not recommend the building despite rents look attractive.

One of the reasons for having the noise reach top floors is the fact that window frames haven't been renovated in a while thus allowing even a moderate sound travel freely across. Updating windows and AC/heating units should be management's top priority.

Rent is attractive but windows and heating system are very old (draft and dust), so noise from outside can be heard which is unacceptable. I am overall not very satisfied and might move in one year, unless windows are replaced

I have been at Carnegie Mews for 26 years, and continue to enjoy it. Its location is extremely convenient, and the service is great. My apartment faces South and provides a magnificent City View straight down Broadway almost to Times Square. I consider myself lucky to have this space.

Oh wow where do I even begin with Carnegie Mews. Unfortunately I have spent the last 5 years living here and this will be my final year after my lease ends. I've finally had enough of this place. There's so many nuances that I've come to learn to accept them as they come, living in this building. 1 I had to pay late fees one the rent when it was their office that messed up and didn't send the monthly invoice on time. 2 Poor ventilation in the bathroom causes black mold to form on the ceiling 3 Terrible plumbing system causes the toilets to overflow and clog at least once a month, making it nearly impossible to have guests over without first warning them of how finicky the toilets are. 4 The doormen are truly the worst of the worst in terms of service here. The package room is a complete mess and I've had packages lost or misplaced. The doormen are not interested in learning your name or providing courtesy or service, instead they are conceited and indifferent to your issues. If you need to leave an envelope or bag for a friend to pick up later? They cant help with that. Leave your keys at the desk for a significant other to pick up to grab something from your room while youre gone? No. How about having them call someone to help you unlock your door that you accidentally got locked out of? That will be $40. When I come back from work at 6PM, there is a doorman that always takes his time opening the door. (These doors open from a keycard behind the front desk allowing residents to proceed to walk into the elevators) sometimes I even have to wait several minutes before the doorman sees me from the back room. I cant believe I need to wait in order to get into my own place of residence after coming back from work. Management, please switch up your doormen. This is the face of your building and there are two regular doormen that make everyone's life a huge hassle. 5 Constant construction and noise make sleeping in past 8AM impossible. There has been loud drilling and outside noise around the apartment for the last 3 years. On top of that, due to all the construction there are clouds of dust ready to meet your face when you walk out those front doors. And when I mean front doors, this building doesnt have any. They broke since the beginning of summer and its already October, and its still undergoing construction to fix. The upside here is the location, you are getting to live in a place where you are steps away from the park as well as all major subways. Getting food here is quite easy and there are new washing machines now in the basement. There is rooftop access which is pretty nice but there are no chairs or tables. Although I have lived here for quite a few years, I do not recommend this place currently to anyone. For the price, you can check out buildings with better management and staff, PROFESSIONAL doormen at Avalon, Mecedes House, Archstone, Gotham West, etc

Excellent location in a well maintained building. The apartments are spacious (I've rented 2 separate apartments so have impressions of various layouts), good closet space and the kitchen has all amenities. Friendly staff, quick and efficient maintenance. The laundry on-site is in top condition and never a wait time to use it. The downside - the apartments are not properly insulated so they are very noisy and cold - and both are not small inconveniences, they really affect the quality of life here, especially given the location of the building (my guests always comment on how incredibly noisy my apartment is and how cold it is all winter/spring/fall). I am considering (reluctantly) leaving the property because of the low quality of life due to permanent lack of sleep and discomfort, otherwise it's a real gem in Manhattan.

I have lived in this building since November 2015 and I can say the only positive to living in this building is that it is within walking distance to my office and makes my commute very easy. During the winter my apartment was freezing cold and there was ice on the inside of our windows. Maintenance was unable to fix this problem so we were forced to get a space heater. The apartment was still uncomfortably cold even with the heater. The plumbing in this building is awful. You cannot flush the toilet within 20 minutes of the previous flush. The toilet clogs at least once a week. Very embarrassing if you have company over. The walls are paper thin. We can hear the infant in the apartment next door crying at all hours of the day/night. Our biggest complain is the unprofessional, rude, condescending, and possibly drunk door man. He refuses to acknowledge residents upon walking into the building and his demeanor is extremely unpleasant. There have been multiple instances where he has been downright obnoxious to me for no reason. He is uncomfortably rude. I would not advise anyone to consider living in this overpriced building.

Carnagie Mews is a great building in NYC. The location and value are the two selling points. It is unfortunate that you cannot have pets in the building but it is workable. You have access to almost every subway within a few minute walk.

I love living at Carnegie Mews. The apartments are fairly large, newly renovated, and clean. The laundry machines are new and the location of the building is great. Staff is friendly and helpful. The noise level is my only issue. There's some construction on 56th street. Not sure how they are allowed to work all night but they do. I've gotten used to it but it is still a problem.

Don't see much value for the price. For slightly lower price, found a better 1 bed room property nearby. 1. Most of the doormen are fine but there are 2 guys that are extremely rude, angry all the time, yelling, and careless. He always refused to listen when we found issue and requested work order. His face sometimes turned red - not sure if this is more of health problem or he consumes alcohol. Missing package deliveries few times. Very unprofessional. 2. There are multiple construction going on at the neighbourhood and very noisy. 3. They recently changed the washing machines at the basement. Followed the instruction to get our money back of app. USD 150 on my previous laundry card - no luck. 4. Frequent issues with toilet (clogged) and smoke detector (false alarm), etc. 5. Recently just next to the building, given the contractions, lots of homeless people sits around the property.

This time of year again, winter. I dread winter since I moved into this building. My corner apartment is so cold in each winter that I'm always in my pajamas. I always keep the fan on but it only turns on when there's hot steam. Like this evening it didn't come at all. On cold winter days, it comes but briefly. Last winter my room temperature dropped to 55. I talked to concierge and it was useless. I checked with New York City law. 55 is just at the legal limit. I can't do anything about it. At the same time my friends living in other units of the building have complained their rooms being too hot and they have to turn their heater off or open windows. They have no idea how jealous I'm of them. I got the handyman to take a look. He cleaned the filter and no help. Same cold temperatures. I've had enough. Can't wait to move out of this freezing hole!

I do not recommend moving to Carnegie Mews in Midtown West. Even though some of the doormen are nice, there is one who does not like to do any job. Plus, there are much better apartments in the area at a better price.

Been living in Carnegie Mews for 4 years and my wife and I absolutely love it. Great building that's literally close to everything. Not much more you can ask for. Read some reviews with some blatant lies such as vermin and bed bugs? thats ridiculous..obviously the tenants who wrote that have an issue with the management etc. Never ever seen anythng like that. If you want a nice, reasonably priced apartment with close proximity to everything, this is the place to be. The door guys are great, like em all except for 1..hes alright i guess. And the porters especially are great guys. CM / 19th floor

Between my husband and I, we have collectively been residents of Carnegie Mews for 5 years and are about to extend to our 6th year. We have been very happy with the service, convenience, and quality of life in this building. To make it really simple, here are the basic pros and cons of living here: Pros: - Great super, doormen, and porters who are responsive and helpful. I've put work orders in and have had them responded to within between minutes to a few hours, depending on the need. - For the price, you get more space than other apartments in the neighborhood, including great closet space and actual usable space (versus weird hallways and entrances that aren't actually able to be utilized) - Amazing location- you are literally steps from the NQR1ACEBDF and the M57 and M31 - I'm not sure where else in the city you can get east, north, or south so quickly and conveniently. This is particularly convenient when you have roommates or partners who work on opposite ends of the city - Clean, well kept building- Someone is always washing, vacuuming, etc. - The new laundry room is a great improvement - Very safe area, building Cons- - The walls can be a little thin, so loud neighbors have potential to be an issue, but people are respectful and quiet for the most part. The building is mostly working 20s and 30s who keep to themselves - The elevators do break down every 4-5 months, but they are usually back up within a few days. During these periods, the wait time can suck, but I have heard the same complaint from every single friend of mine who lives in an apt building in NYC. The building is also pretty good about letting you use the service elevator during these periods - It's not a luxury building- you aren't going to have a gym, pool, fancy common space, or beautiful rooftop. You can use the roof if you bring up your own chairs and sit out. You used to be able to watch the fireworks or ball drop, but this is no longer allowed - Prices are increased fairly steeply from year to year, so if you think you'd want to stay for 2 years, take the 2 year lease. It's a much better deal. - For me, people keeping to themselves was a con. I would like a little more of a community feel and wish that the management company would help organize it so that neighbors could get to know each other

We cannot say it enough.... it is your choice if you live here, but expect the worst. Our apartment looked like an exorcism had taken place in it when we moved in. Firstly, there is a huge vermin problem here, mice everywhere, which the management (Rose Associates) and RW Kern (owner of building) deny. They run from the bedroom to the kitchen, and they come through the walls, and they breed and breed. If you live here and you complain about mice, the management will first blame it on you, and then try to evict you. The building has violations on average every month in relation to the vermin issue; just google it. Second, bedbugs. They are supposed to tell you if the building has had a bed bug problem within the last two years, and they don't. They lie. They have a bed bug problem in this building. You can google that too. Thirdly, the washer dryers just do not work. You want a hot wash, good luck if any water comes out. You want to dry your clothes, don't bother, line dry, as the dryer does not dry. A few years ago, they installed new machines, but very little water is used to wash the clothes resulting in the clothes not being washed and coming out dry. The building is installing new washer dryers which will be interesting as the prices will probably go up and the maintenance of the machines will be constantly ignored. Fourth, doormen. There is one guy who starts his shift around 4 pm in during the week. He is mean as hell and just is angry all the time. He is nasty to my husband and me. The doormen do not know anything going on and are very unresponsive when you request a work order. Fifth, Rose Associates. There was management before Rose Associates, and they were useless. They would not show their face and divert your complaints to a voicemail. Rose Associates came in, and although they give you a nice talk of how they are different, they just lie. Their property manager spends more time smoking outside the building than actually listening to tenants who pay close to $3,500 in rent per month. This cigarette smoking property manager is useless and if you approach her with a complaint, she will do everything to avoid you and raise your rent on next renewal, or she will threaten not to renew. Sixth, if they feel you are a nuisance, and this means if you request for something to be fixed, they will incorporate those costs into your next rent rise, sometimes over $300. Seventh, they advertise this building as a luxury building. LOL. Eighth, the third floor has roaches in nearly all the apartments. Ninth, there is a heat problem in the building. Tenth, the building elevators are always broken and out of service. Eleventh, sometimes they turn the water off during the day, and give you little warning. So good luck going to work and being fresh. Twelfth, sometimes the water in the afternoon is just cold, so if you want to shower or wash your hands, no warm or hot water. Thirteenth, the hallways smell. Fourteenth, we have heard people in the lobby complaining to the doormen about their repairs not being done for weeks. Fifteenth, expect your toilet to overflow all the time, and yes, it happens when you have company. Sixteenth, they don't like foreigners. Good luck if you're not American. They get the worst treatment as 3 neighbors of ours are foreign and none of their work orders are ever completed. There are laws against housing discrimination which the building owners and management do not care about. Seventeenth, expect to be high all the time. A lot of residents smoke pot. Eighteenth, we won't be here when you move in. We wish you the best with this building. There is even more we can add, but this should do it for now. We expect Rose Associates to write a comment to this post, but you know what Rose Associates, you have had plenty of chances, and this was out last resort. It is unfair that we do not get the service we pay for with our hard earned money. People should know what b-s you give out when you open your mouths, and they should know what to expect if they are thinking of moving here.

Rose Assoc drove this building straight into the ground. I just read another review on Yelp & that guy was spot on; save yourself the headache (literally!) & rent somewhere else. We used to be able to watch the ball drop on New Years but now that Rose Assoc runs the building they locked the door & gave us all 1 week notice; basically to cancel our parties. They said "it could not be avoided"; longer notice could have been. I had 15 people coming after watching it drop for 3 years & I looked like an ---. Ruined the new year. Plus the facilities has plummeted & this construction is unbearable.

there are offices in this building in addition to residences. Means there are all sorts of people coming in and out during the day. No apartment maintenance at night. Single pane windows. If u face the street it will be noisy. Doesnt bother some people but watch for it. Also keep in mind there is no gym. This is an overpriced building; there are better deals out there.
