Leech of a Landlord
To quote a previous reviewer, "The office staffs, service technicians are all very friendly, good and responsive. Only problem is management doesn’t have any intention to return your initial deposit in the name of normal wear and tear, doesn’t matter how many years you live there. Also they will take additional amount from you, be careful." Parking lot was a total nightmare, especially in the winter when plowing wouldnt show up until after working hours. Laundry is also a nightmare, the washing machine would leak and stop working. Maintenance would sometimes take a week, despite suggestions from residents for better washing machines. The building in general had faults, such as leaking on the walls. My neighbor said that instead of fixing the leak, they offered to paint over it. The overall mesaage of this place, like most apartments unfortunately is: the only money that matters is the money you owe to them. Sure, raise rent an extra $200 for resisents. Force residents to move out after years of tenancy. Upgrade the place with charging stations for teslas. Just a message to the landlord: i hope you are happy. I hope your glad that you make peoples' homes into money-making business, scraping every ounce of money hard working people earn, so you can sit and watch. You're a leech.

Love living Here
I've lived here for many years I love that I have a huge apartment. My building is quiet and hallways clean. I bought an EV vehicle and was hoping to be able to charge at home. They told me give them some time and they added chagers eventually.

I lived at the Village of Mayfield Apartments for 4 years, and really enjoyed living there. The buildings are only 2-3 stories, which limits the amount of noise you have to deal with from neighbors. The grounds make you forget you're right off of a busy street, and they provide bags to clean up after the dogs, which keeps dog poop from accumulating. The neighbors were friendly and I met several of them while walking my dog around the grounds. I also enjoyed using the racquetball courts. I learned how to play racquetball while living there and enjoyed playing with friends. I even hosted a mini-tournament one day, and we set up crock pots in the community room adjacent to the court. The pool was a nice bonus, and kept clean. I also enjoyed using the hot tub, even if I was disappointed they didn't keep it filled in the wintertime. Overall, these are the nicest and most spacious apartments you can get in the Mayfield area, and the price point is consistent with that. They were large enough that I could comfortably have a roommate, which cut my rent down below what I would have paid for a one-bedroom at one of the high-rises, and allowed me to save up to buy a house. Overall, these are good apartments for single adults, families, or the elderly who can no longer manage stairs, as long as you can manage the price point.

I recently moved into building 902 Som Center Rd. I was shown a model unit that was said to be identical to the unit I would be renting with the exception of kitchen cabinet color, floor color and and bathroom size. I should have declined the unit when I was denied the opportunity to see it prior to move in. The common area is dirty with half painted walls, holes in the walls and poor lighting. The landscaping is horrible and nothing like the units near or close to the rental office. The bay window outside my unit has chipped painted, rotted wood and clearly unkept and falling apart. The kitchen is outdated with super small useless cabinets that were poorly painted and filthy. The lighting in the kitchen is ancient and hasn't been updated in years The stove exhaust is stained and old, with old worn burners. The appliances are old and dingy. The unit was not freshly painted as there were numerous spots of dirt and poorly painted areas. I feel as though I was purposely mislead with the bate and switch as this particular building has not been updated and barely maintained. I was lied to and led to believe my unit would look like the model I was shown.

I have lived at the village for almost 2 years. Its very quiet a big plus for me my apartment is large with lots of closet space. I enjoy the club house pool and hot tub in the summer. Heather and lynn in the office are very friendly and willing to help with any issues that may arise. The maintenance get things done in a timly manner. Brenda L

I am ending my first year in this community and I am re-signing for another year. The property is in a GREAT location with access to anything you could possibly want in regards to retail, entertainment, hospitals and highways. I have to disagree with some of the negative reviews on the office staff. Heather and her assistant are always available during open hours at the office with smiles, positive attitudes, etc. and maintenance is swift when needed which was very minimal. The property hosts several events at the pool and clubhouse free of charge for community get together's with success as it appears to me. I like others were concerned with some of the extra fees and such but if you step back and consider the safety, kept grounds and the fact that everything you'll ever need is in your neighborhood with most in walking distance. I do have a dog and this community couldn't be more accommodating in regards to animals. I have 2 cars and never have to search for a place to park up on the deck, which is always clean of debris and well kept in the winter. Bill

The apartments are average, the location is nice, maintenance team is friendly...leasing office staff and management are appalling. They aren't worth the time it takes to write a sufficiently negative review. Trust the poor reviews you read, they are accurate.

This could be a nice place if you have money to burn. The complex will "nickel and dime" you to death. Cost extra for parking (ok), extra for storage. More than 4days late with rent, $50.00 late fee. Plus they monitor your utilities, so if you fall behind with them, they tack on to your rent. This place has their pockets deeper in my pocket than I do. Small, lots of ants and mice, snow not cleared very well.

I do not recommend The Village at Mayfield Apartments to anyone! The good: location amazing maintenance staff fast responding neighbors friendly walls thick cant hear people The Bad: -really small apartments -dirty when we moved in -needs new carpeting -pay per person for water -parking garage all rusty and have to pay $35 a month per car -above parking free however, never any spots to park and no lighting at night -mold on bedroom and living room walls -mold all throughout the bathroom (clean multiple times a week with bleach still there) -Bathroom and kitchen very old needs updating very bad -dishwasher is useless -3 things broke within a month of living there (fridge, shower, bathroom sink) they fixed it but still should not have happened -also pay for all utilities (gas, sewer, water, electric) gas, sewer and water are managed though a 3rd party called AUM which charges you an admin fee every month of $5.05 (not much but adds up over time to $60.60 a year) Other Fees when moving in: $500 security deposit (refundable) $75 carpet cleaning fee (nonrefundable) $50 application fee (nonrefundable) management sucks! -never responds to emails -takes months to fix rental payment system issues: 1. had rental payment issue online said I owed less then what my rent was, paid what is said I owed, then got finned b/c I did not pay enough 2. over paid my rent by $50, kept the money never took it off my next months rent, been fighting with them about for over a year WARNING: if you get an employer discount from them it only lasts for the 1st year you live there, after that you no longer get the discount (they do not tell you this though until it happens and your rent goes up)

Staff at the leasing office is not helpful at all, and seems to go out of their way to avoid contact with residents. Maintenance crew is appears to be hard-working and responsive, but not very knowledgeable in standard repairs, sometimes having to return up to 3 times to correct a simple issue. Paid parking is available, but never enforced by the management team, so it is very common to find another car parked in the spot you have paid for. Whenever this is addressed to the staff, they refuse to take action and correct the situation.

There are roaches in my unit. They are in my kitchen and I've found them in my bathroom sink. They were in my food when I moved out. They swore for 2 months that Terminix said there are no roaches. However, through my better business bureau report, I got ahold of Terminix's report that states there IS a cockroach infestation. There are huge spiders outside my apartment door. Maintenance does not respond in a timely manner. Residents smoke cigarettes in the common areas. It is nearly impossible to reach anyone in the leasing office for any reason. You can hear the neighbors through the bedroom wall very clearly. Our building is the least appealing building visually in the development. NO landscaping out front. Just dirt. Only positive thing about this place: location.

Except for the maintenance crew which is quick to respond to problems, I would not recommend the complex. After one year there I was very anxious to leave. Don`t make the mistake of believing the sign in front of their office as they do not love their residents. They do love the almighty dollar, however, and will find reasons to charge you for everything they can. They rarely plow the parking lots in winter and the garage is so filthy you may not want to park your car in it. The cabinets have not been updated for 50 years and they look it. There is minimal cabinet space in the kitchen and all the cabinets are cheap looking. If you live upstairs your electric bills will be very high due to poor insulation. The community is safe, however, and it is close to heinens.

1-I lived there for a year. It is a good quite place to live in for a family or singles...safe and clean, 5min to the highway (271). Maintenance responds quickly and they are helpful all the time. 2-The thing that bothered me the most is that the utility bill is very high for one person. Water, heat, sewer are combined in one bill. I paid about 50/m in the warmer months and about 90/m in the cooler/winter months. Here is the breakdown for one person in 1100 SF: Sewer $17/m(fixed), Water $18/m (average) -this is just kitchen and shower use-not including the laundry( you pay for that separately) Admin fees $5/m (fixed), gas x$ (varies). You pay it even if you are out of town or travelling. There is no meters for heat or water for each apt so the bill gets divided on the occupants in the building!! 3-parking lots do not get clean very well during the winter. Very messy and dangerous. (garage is 30/m). parking lot doesn't have any lights at all...unsafe if you work late or super early.... 4-know that any discount you get for rent, it applies only for the first year. Also, rent increase every year by about 3%...

The apartments are in a nice area but overall look decent but are very cheap. I am a very clean person and never had a problem with rodents before until moving in here. The parking is the worse, sometimes you have to park a few streets down from your apartment. The rec room is run down and outdated and nothing is ever cleaned. The management is unorganized and doesn't follow through with anything. I love the area but there are many better apartments near by that are better for the price.

Overall, this is a good apartment to live in. maintenance responds quickly and efficiently. It is a safe community to live in and and in a good location. Some down falls: The parking lot and pathways aren't plowed too well during the winter and there are a lot of hidden fees tagged onto the rent (ex. pay for water fee per person)

I have been a resident of the Village at Mayfield apartments for over 10 years. The management staff including the maintenance team, has been here for many years also. They have always been friendly and helpful and respond immediately to my requests for service or assistance. They have helped me provide a true "home like" experience for me and my daughter. The apartments are very spacious (I have 2 bedrooms and a den), the parking is secure (I have a covered space)and the parking lots are patrolled by the police department. I had looked at other properties but frankly, this is the best bargain for the money. It's in a beautiful, park-like setting and I enjoy living here.

HORRIBLE COMPLEX I lived at the mayfield for 1 year and couldn't take it for 6 months!! Bathtub won't drain water correctly!! The manager is never available and won't talk to you unless he is putting a 10 day threatening eviction notice for problems you had no clue about. I can hear both upstars and nextdoor neighbors CONVERSATIONS. Walls are paper thin and inbetween them is mold. But hey the managment Never cares and acts like he owns the place if you don't like it leave. ------ gangsters walking in and out of the complex. I have heard people scream from the top of their lungs help call 911. Watched a man get beat up and had to intervien. Rudest management I have ever delt with I WOULD NEVER TELL ANYONE TO MOVE HER NOT WORTH IT

I will not recommend these apartments to anyone. There are several reasons as I have learned here from the last 9 months. I have 3 more months to go and can not stay here any longer. -----Dead bugs including cockroaches show up time to time. Despite several complaints, staff keep promising to address the issue, but no progress todate -----In the Master bedroom bath, black fungus and mold started to develop after 1 month I moved in. I cleaned the bathrooms on every other day as I had a small baby and wanted to ensure appartment is clean. When I file my complaint, the staff told me that I do not clean sufficient enough. I spoke with neighbours and they told me the exact same story.....awful, awful, awful...... -----very noisy place -----rooms with small windows without enough light

My family and I have been living in "THE VILLAGE" for more than 3 years now. We really love everything about "THE VILLAGE". First of all, the location is GREAT. The area is very safe and within very short distance of everything we could think of ( grocery stores, mall, highway, movie theaters....etc). As far as our apartment, we have a 2 bedroom apartment with a "den". It's a very well designed and spacious apartment that has 2 full bathrooms (one in the master bedroom). The apartment also has a big living/family room with a beautiful bay window. The kitchen is also spacious. The rent, in my opinion, is very reasonable considering everything this place has to offer. The utilities and electricity bills (which are not included in the rent) are also very appropriate and acceptable. We have 24/7 access to a very nice clubhouse that has a new fitness center (that we use quite often), racquetball court, business center and a special party room. Outside the clubhouse, there's an outdoor pool and hot tub that we enjoy so much in the Summer. There are plenty of free parking spots for us and for our visitors in addition to covered parking spots that you could reserve/rent for a very small fee for any period of time ( we usually get one or two spots for Winter time). Last but not least, the HIGHLIGHT of this place is the staff. The property manger, the office employees and the maintenance staff are all very professional and friendly. They have always gone above and beyond to help us and make sure all our needs are met. The maintenance folks are excellent. They are available 24/7 and come to our service promptly anytime we ask for something (including after hours and weekends). To summarize, we are simply very comfortable and happy here at "THE VILLAGE". We have been in different cities and rental communities before and this is certainly one of the best.

We have lived here for two years, and are moving out at the end of the month because we bought a home. After reading these reviews, I'm coming to the conclusion that the authors must bring on most of the problems themselves. I have never been treated with anything less than smiles and helpful attitudes. We have had maintenance come in for multiple things in the past 2 years including our stove breaking twice, our refrigerator, a lock mishap on the bedroom door, and a few other small problems. They have always come out promptly and fixed things quickly, even when they had to order parts for the stove. They have made improvements to our parking garage and also re-did the whole driveway/upper parking while we have been here. We do park in the garage, but I have noticed normal snow removal, nothing different than if you had your own driveway. Yes, the apartments are older and the appliances are very outdated. However, we knew that going into our lease, and they fix them when they need to. We have never made a late payment, been an problem to other residents, or been unreasonable with the staff, so I'm guessing that is why we have had no problems. Also to the poster about the pool, my kids and I were the only ones in the pool most days the past 2 summers! I have no affiliation whatsoever to the apartment complex, but would like to show people that they can have a positive experience here.

This apartment is truly not worth the money. I pay all utilities, no balcony, annoying neighbors play loud music all nights, they do NOT effectively plow snow or shovel sidewalks in the winter. Very overpriced. They consistently give less than 1 day's notice before entering your apartment. Appliances are lousy. Very little counter space. My car damaged in the parking lot. Costs $25 per month for covered parking. Pool very small and fills up with outsiders. We bought a house and there is no getting out of the lease or breaking it. These people squeeze every cent out of you they can. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Can't wait to get out of here.

They really need to remove the sign out front that says "We love our residents". The office staff is unhelpful and condescending, and they are totally unwilling to work with their residents when it comes to a problem. The apartments are completely outdated and overpriced. The stairs to the parking deck are just a death trap and there has been zero attempt to fix them. I will never recommend this complex to anybody. I just can't get over how nasty and rotten the "policies" toward residents are. They most certainly do not care about any of us. There are cracks forming on the walls in my son's bedroom and in our living room, the stove was absolutely revolting when I moved in. It had not been cleaned at all prior to us moving in. I am certain that we won't get our security deposit back even though the apartment is in more decent condition now, at least as far as cleanliness is concerned.

It's okay
My husband and I have been here for 2 in a half years. We really like it because we have 2 dogs and we are allowed to have them (even though the pet fee is crazy). This was a big thing for us. We also enjoy using the raquetball court and pool in the summer. Very nice. We havent had a problem with the maitenance really, they've fixed everything we felt wasnt right. Obviously, yes, kitchen space is small, but it's an apartment, we expected this. We like the fact we have a walk in closet in our bedroom and standup shower. It's nice. The first winter we were here they plowed horribly. We didn't get much snow this year and it seemed a little better. The problem is, there is no place to put the snow and they only have a snow plow on a truck, they don't pick up excess from the sides to make sure all parking is avaliable. Sharing a laundry room with 8 other units sucks. Plus its expensive. 1.50 for wash and 1.50 for drying (since they dryer doesnt work well). If they dont fix the dryer we may go somewhere else to wash clothes. Well, as I mentioned the pet fee, we dont think thats necessary either since we pay a non-refund pet deposit already. I mean in 1 year they mooch $600 bucks off us for both dogs. Also we thought about moving this next term but couldnt find a place and they need to know 45 days in advance what our plans are. If we will move out or stay. We waited til the day of to let them know our intentions and was told our lease would automotically renew wthout us signing anything. Needless to say, we found out they changed a few things. Rent of course went up 30 dollars a month and also instead of 45 days notice you have to give them 60, which is a joke. How can we expect to find another place to rent with 60 days advance notice to our current apartment? Luckily if we decide to move come next term (especially if rent goes up) then we have parent's to bunk with til we find another place. So they can't completely hook you in for another term, there are other ways around it, but it stinks its that long. Like they are forcing you to stay and bring rent up each year. That's the biggest negative, I'd say. So just be cautious. No doubt they gave us a "deal" when we moved in, but they obviously arent trying to keep people long term. Come for a year or two and feel like your getting a good deal when you arent. They'll keep bumping up the rent..yeah, nice place. We pay $930 a month for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment. This includes our pet fees ($25 a dog per month). Electric is around 30-40 a month. Gas is from 30-70 a month (depending on seasons). Sewer is like 15 a month and water is like 20. We pay in total anywhere from 100-150 a month for utilities. So rent and utilities is 1030-1080 a month in total. Luckily we live close to work so its not too bad with gas. That helps, but some people travel 30-40 miles to work and that really sucks for them.

WORST APARTMENTS TO LIVE IN
Before I even moved in, I was having problems with the mangement. I had looked online and saw a few bad reviews, but thought maybe a few people just had a bad experience, but I wish I would have listened, because everything people wrote is true. The people that work in the leasing office are so rude, they don't return your phone calls- you have to continue to call them. I had maintence in my apartment about once a month because something was always wrong... whether it was the dishwasher not working, the garbage disposal, the toilet running, etc. When you walk into the apartment building, it sounds like you're walking into a pound with all the dogs barking, yet the neighbors are quick to complain about noise- and then mangement conviently is quick to send you a note. They are WAY over priced, the apartments are a nice size, but not updated, and definitely not worth the price of rent. There's only one washer and dryer for 8 apartments.. you have to go to club house to put money on laundry card, which is very inconvienant. The parking lots are usually full, which means you have to walk.. I hated everything about living in these apartments, and would never recommend them to anyone!
