Rent WILL go up at lease renewal - Parking sucks!

This place is ok now that the noisy neighbor moved out. You could hear everything these people did, and I mean everything! Anyway, maintenance is very responsive and I have always been very happy with them. Appliances here are older than dirt and it takes pulling teeth to get a new appliance. You almost have to wish the appliances would break to get a new one... This place works for now. Rent is ok, but the increases at renewal (at least 8%) are ridiculous when appliances are not updated and you can't get parking close to your building after 6PM on any given night. Management's suggestion is to pay $40.00/month for covered parking located two buildings away from you. They will frequently move new tenants in at a rate much less than what you are paying, then they tell you they can't give you that rate as it is for new tenants only. So, loyalty does not seem to exist with the management (Equity Residential), so that is a downside to living here. We have not experienced any crime, nor seen/heard any reports of crime. I think we have only seen the police here once or twice. They do check backgrounds so I think that weeds a lot of problem people out. The really ------ part of the complex seems to be up in the west/front part of the complex - people come flying out of there in their hoopties all of the time. Overall, this is a typical apartment complex. Nothing fancy, a place to live while looking for something better to live in. I wouldn't plan on staying here forever since the rent increases will kill your budget, while nothing changes. Oh and they will gouge you with the monthly utility bill!!!!!!! Water/sewer/garbage bills every month are freakin' ridiculous! You will pay a ton extra per month paying for your neighbors excess water usage!

    These people are criminals!!!

Living at Firdale Village Apartments was the most miserable living experience I've ever had! We lived there for one year from 07-08. They try to make things look nice on the outside, but DO NOT BE FOOLED! The managers are dim witted crooks. When we left they tried to pin a ton of damage on us that was INVENTED! Cuts in the vinyl flooring, burn marks on the carpet... All sorts things that were not there when we left! You'd be lucky to find a nice neighbor (they are usually the ones that leave as soon as their lease is up!) Firdale Village is crawling with low life scumbags. We received a few too many notices that there had been a break-in in one of the buildings. The cops frequently responded to domestic violence reports near our building. Most of the neighbors could care less about anyone but themselves. As far as the amenities go, the exercise room is WAY too small for a complex of that size, and the equipment is run down and broken. The pool is absolutely disgusting. In April 2007 we started seeing BLACK MOLD in our closet and in the corner of our bedroom. When we let the managers know, they said they would send someone out to clean it up. Want to know how that went? Mr. Maintenance man came out, wiped the mold off of the wall, and left! The managers advised us to "keep a window open". Um... I'm not sure if you remember this, but April 2007 was COLD! Snowing, raining, the works! We also had a newborn! And they wanted us to keep a window open? That's effective. If we were having problems with black mold in our bedroom and closet, I think it would have taken more than a cracked window to solve the real issue. For the amount of money that you pay, you should get a LOT more! (Like, say, the chance to park your car withing walking distance of your apartment?) If you are considering moving here, RUN THE OTHER WAY!

      dont live here

Everything is low budget, run down. Getting anything replaced or fixed is a hassle, and an arguement. At the end of your lease they will raise your rent for 30%. Not a home like environment. I cant wait to move!

          Not a home.

This apartment complex is lacking. Work out equipment is broken, and the steam room/hot tub and pool have been out of order since my lease started. The cleaning supplies in the gym area are always out- so people aren't wiping their sweat from the machines. No one ever wipes down the tanning bed either. The last time I went to go wait for the tanning bed to be free, a gross looking guy and girl walked out together after 45 minutes, giggling. I will never use it again. The employees here are very nosy. I've been here for less than three months and they entered my apartment without my consent. I was gone for 3 days last week, and I came home to a note they had placed on my door on the Wednesday I left, warning me that they were going to enter my apartment "either Thursday or Friday". This really upset me and freaked me out- since i had dirty laundry out. Yuck what if he was a pervert? They have also been posting notes on my door saying that tons of neighbors are complaining about all the dog poop and to make sure to pick up my animal poop- even though I don't own any animals. Money wise... it just seems like I keep getting scammed but can't prove it. I was gone for over a month and yet I had a utility bill for that month for 86 dollars. They were charging me for a parking spot even though I never asked for or signed anything saying I agreed to pay for a special parking spot. All the financial dealings I've had with this place just seem so sneaky and shady. They are asking me to renew my lease for $758 dollars. I currently pay $640. I can't believe that after 3 months they are making me sign a new lease for 758 dollars. I am residing in the smallest apartment in the whole complex- I don't even have any of good stuff like a fireplace. Oh yeah, they also force you to purchase renters insurance here- it is mandatory. The dishwasher only has sprayers on the bottom, so I have to run every load twice in the dishwasher and only put stuff on the bottom rack. My bathroom ceiling has mold. And they don't even have any lights in the living room! What is that?? The whole place just seemed so great in the beginning, I feel like a fool for renting here. I asked the mail man where the outgoing mail box was, and he told me that people keep breaking into the mailboxes so they had to seal off the outgoing mail box, and now they have a basket in the office to stick your outgoing mail in now. So, whenever you mail something you have to trek up to the office when it is open, and stick your mail in a public basket right by the door and hope that no one snatches it. My suggestion would be to find a different nicer place to rent, one where you just have to write a check each month and live your life instead of deal with constant drama and paperwork and bills and rules and crime etc. I'm looking around this area for a nicer place to rent, and I am finding that there are tons of nicer places for way cheaper around here that aren't being advertised- you just have to drive around and write down phone numbers. Good luck!!

            appreciate Firdale

We have lived at Firdale Village Apts for nearly 3 years. We have nothing but high praise for everything from maintenance, to the beauty of the grounds. We have always been treated with the highest of respect. When we were contemplating moving in we spoke with management and they did their very best to please us and wow did they!!We got all new appliances, new carpet, new light fixtures and linoleum. We have a 2 bedroom 1 bath and the beauty out our back doors is like living in a park. When a repair is needed maintenance shows up almost right away--sometimes it is the next day but if possible they come that day. They never leave without solving the problem. We left Ballinger Commons for all the many dreadful experiences we had there and we lived there 3 years. The rent is more than fair here and we really cannot see ever moving from here.

Thefts, Run Down Insides, Noisy, Bad Info From Office Staff

Thefts: 3 times my vehicle has been broken into. Emails advising management go un-answered. Management DOES NOT CARE if your vehicle is broken into. Call the police or your insurance company is their wonderful solution. Where is the security that they (we)pay for??? Insides of units: Could use some serious upgrading, BIG TIME. Better insulation and padding for floors to help with neighbor noise. Newer energy efficient applicances would be nice, instead of 10 year old gross models. Noisy: cars running around at night, dogs barking, bad insulation between floors. Office staff does not care and provides great info to get you to move and then when you move in, they change. If you are looking for a cheap, cheap place to live, this would be it. The rents are ok, but the quality is cheap. Money hungry is right. Could do an upgrade on units to charge more rent if they wanted money so bad. I do have to say that the grounds are very well maintained and maintenance is good.

              Theft prevelent

I'm a current resident and while I didn't mind the place. A little old, run down and they are stingy in replacing old appliances. This latest development takes the cake. My car was broken into last night, along with two other cars on the same complex. The police officer told me he had three car break ins from last night alone. It's not the first complaint of theft either. The mail room gets broken into and there are plenty of other cars. One would think they'd up security in the parking lot. Since they charge me $40 a month for my parking space, there should be security cameras and at least working lights to prevent thieves from getting away with hundreds of dollars in electronics and memories.

                WORST PLACE EVER!

I thought this place would be good at first but I was wrong! The staff are consistently changing, they are not that great and this place is rediculously money hungry! Try moving out or doing a roommate release form is more difficult than need be! Lets just say we had it all filled out to be released no matter what and they voided it with out telling us for 2 weeks after we already thought we were off! now we are stuck with all this stuff that we should not be dealing with after they told us no matter what happens we are off on a certain date no matter what. At least the one in edmonds is a joke for an apartment complex! We moved to a new apartment to expect the same rediculous paper work and invasion of privacy to find that it is just this complex that you have to pay all these extra bills and they wont work with you! The apartment itself has terrible appliances, carpets, everything and dont even think about good parking. The walls are so thin you can hear everyone and everything above you! The first day I moved in there was black stuff all over the carpet and got all over everything, thats how efficient they are. My apartment flooded within 3 months of living there! Not only that there was crime and vandalism every week! had my car and mailbox broken into in less than a week, people being shot, breaking into apartments etc.. not a good place for kids for sure. Dont waste your time looking or living here. It was a nightmare from start to finish.

You want to sleep in and find a great parking spot, think again.

I have lived here for a year and a half. I lived in a 2bed 2bath which was a nightmare, there was no cable hook up in the 2nd bedroom, and only one cable hook up in the living/dinning room. I was always constantly fighting for parking at night soon as it hit 6pm unless I had a covered spot ($40 extra a month) there were nights where I had to walk from the main office. Roommates moved out because they broke up... I moved into a 3bedroom. All we have is complaints. Mold growing, fans in the bathrooms not doing their job, holes in the doors and walls before we moved in where not fixed, parking is still a pain. it takes them 2 weeks to tag and tow some one. if you're paying for parking to hell if you can tow the person who parked in your paid parking spot. the handicap spot, oh it's not even available for those that are handicapped no one cares parking is parking. There have been nights where I come home and call the cops because I can't even get to the walkway there's so many cars parked out front, let alone turn my vehicle around! the drainage on the tubs and sinks horrible!! No one hear cleans up after them self, I had to complain 3 times a week for 2 months for the cig butts to be picked up! I even asked the neighbor WHO SMOKED to pick them up and no one did anything! Someone parked in my paid covered parking for a week I couldn't tow them because I'm not authorized even though it clearly states on my lease I'm paying for that spot number and the vehicle didn't match the description on my lease. Cops won't do anything unless you threaten to do damage to another persons property because "it's private property" So the curb is red, means fire lane, but everyone parks in it! Garbage is a joke, last winter it was waist high and the dumpster was over flowing. You can never recycle because they're always full and everyone just throws recyclable into the trash. HORRIBLE CELL PHONE RECEPTION IN BUILDINGS! My calls drop 90% of the time in the buildings! Doesn't matter who your provider is, your call WILL DROP! Linda and Melissa are about the only two managers left that are nice and try to stay on top of things. OH AND MANAGEMENT IS ALL FEMALE NO MALES!! They come up with stupid --- excuses unless you get Linda or Melissa. Place is a complete joke!

Hell in the form of an apartment

We thought this place looked great. Like you are living in the woods. But then you get in the apartment and its TINY! Things started falling apart right away. The kitchen light fell on my head. The dryer broke the second day and the guy that came to fix it got dirt AND BLOOD all over. He didn't even fix it. It took over a week to get another one and another week to install it. The towel rack fell off the wall, which it appeared had fallen several times before. They had caulked over mold in the shower. The covers were always falling off the plug ins. The managment acted like they were doing a huge favor letting me move in. There was a $600 "depsit" PER PET!! Yeah, that $$ was down the drain, even though the apartment was cleaner then when I moved in here (I don't think they cleaned after the last tenant). I was only there for 3 months, but I dreaded ever time I had to go home. This place is CAPTACULAR!!! Don't put yourself through hell. Spend a little more and save yourself the greif.

well at first glance the grounds are beautiful like heaven. but you can't get anything fixed. oh yea they come out and try to fix things but never seem to finish the job then you never hear from them again. They say they are dog friendly but any complaint will get you evicted for your dog being a nuisance. Management never keeps its word and the staff work appears to change daily. there are always new people working except the manager and the assistant manager. Also they say one thing then deny they said it. while living there many apartments were broken in and mail boxes were robbed . A stabbing occurred next door to us , I had to call 911 and about 4 months ago we got a alert that people were kicking in doors and robbing the apartment. There is plenty of parking if you pay for it. But make sure your tabs are current and it runs and moves or they tow it even if you pay for your parking.

Suggestions if you are thinking about moving here

Ok, I am not here to bash this place nor praise it. I am a current resident, although when my lease is up I am (hopefully) gone. Just wanted to give people that are moving here some tips. 1.) The walls are pretty good for quietness if the neighbors are respectful. However, the ceilings leave A LOT to be desired. If it is at all possible for you, move into the third floor. I am on the first, know the people that live above me, and unless they tip-toe you can track them across their apartment. They are not rude, just the construction of the buildings. Also, if I am in my bathroom I sometimes hear them do their "business" in their bathroom above mine. Quite embarrassing. 2.) The complex is huge. The farther you move into it, the worse it gets. Parking, noise, people. The buildings closer to the main street (244th) are your best bet. Mine is one of those, we have parking, and everyone is polite to each other. I did drive back into the complex when I first moved in to check it all out, and got flipped off by some guy walking his dog. Isolated case, yes. Just my observations. 3)Anything breaks, report it immediately. You can do it online at their website. Of the three things I have reported, only one was actually fixed. The other two were supposedly fixed 2 more times, but they are not. I print out my maintenance request for records. They *WILL* hammer you for EVERYTHING when you go to move out. My time is coming, but I went through it with 2 friends of mine when they moved out. Document every little thing when you move in, no matter how small. Even so, your deposit will be gone when you move, so be prepared. Hope these help. The apartments aren't the worst, nor the best, just mediocre.

You don't want to rent Firdale Village Apt~!!!!!!

If you are planning to rent Firdale Village.... I beg you.......... Please don't rent this place... I lived here for 4 years & management treat you like homeless people. This is whats going to happen if you rent this place. 1. Your rent will go up so much every time you rent this apartment. (at least $100 per months more) 2. if you have a pet you'll have to pay $15 each month on the top of your pet deposit. 3. Mean managements 4. No parking 5. Noisy (bathroom & hallway fans are so noisy and your neighbors will complain because of you turn on your fan for your bathroom 6. So old appliance (doesn't work right). I had to call management and they never fix it right. 7. Your neightbors will call police everytime you make at least small noise. 8. If you invit guest over you'll get a notice paper next day to pay extra. 9. My neighbor told me that their roof was licking and top fell off and they didnt come out right away (very scary). If you care about yourself and family. This is not a place to stay.. Hope you make right choice.

We've lived here nearly four years and each year it gets worse. The management has a lot to be desired, although professional, they don't respond quickly nor do they consider loyalty a plus. Each year the rent goes up dramatically ($200/mo) plus now they are requiring a pet rental fee of $15/per pet per month! The pool hours and workout area have been cut back. Applicances are old and replacements are even older! Parking is difficult to find in the evenings. The noise is terrible both outside and inside. The fans in the bathroom are very very loud. You can not only hear but feel the resident below walk across the room.

                                  Better than reviews indicate

I think the reviews make this place sound a lot worse than it actually is. I've lived at Firdale Village for two and a half years and have no complaints. The management is polite and quick to respond to problems. Due to some work a third party company did on our building last month, we ended up with sand in our water lines, which clogged filters and ruined some appliances. I got a new water heater and laundry machine out of it, both of which were replaced within 1 day. I did have my water shut off for several hours at a time a few times in a month, but this mostly occured while I was at work and had no need of the water anyway. When my water heater broke, they did put me up in a Travelodge for the night. I went there to take a shower and came back home to sleep. There is dog poop in certain areas, but that's really the tenant's fault. Management does provide doggy bags and trash bins on the dog trail, but some dog owner's are just lazy jerks and if no one sees them, they just leave it. I do know that management did threaten to evict a tenant if she didn't clean up the dog poop around her unit, and that area is much nicer now. I can't comment on the hot tub as I've never used it. I have a bit of a phobia about semi-public hot tubs and what goes on in there. I have used the pool and it's pretty clean. Though with all the children who frequent it, I'd estimate the pee content at around 15%. In summer 2006 one tenant had their child throw up in the pool, so they had to close it for a few days, drain most of the water and clean it up. Then the very next week, the same child threw up again just a few feet from the pool. My neighbor went over and yelled at the parents for that and I don't remember seeing them at the pool after that. Parking is hit and miss, depending on which building you live in. My building always has ample parking, but when I walk my dog certain around other buildings I have seen that some people have to park 2 or 3 buildings away from their unit and I'm sure that's really frustrating. Management has raised rent on both of my lease renewals, but I started at $711 and am now paying $750. Not a big deal. I know that they have tried to raise it considerably more for other tenants, and I'm not sure why. I got a good deal on my second renewal because I mentioned I was looking around at other units (and I was) but opted to stay. As with most apartments, I think the biggest problem with this place is the people who live in them. I've had three different tenants live in the unit below me, two of which were smokers. There is nothing worse than opening your balcony door in the summer to let some cool air in and have your apartment fill with smoke from the ----- below you who's smoking on her porch. One morning I actually woke up at 7am from the smell of smoke. Now, I've been woken up by sounds or bright lights many times, but this was the first time something smelled so foul that it woke me up. Smokers are so incredibly inconsiderate. Last summer I had the trashiest neighbors ever in the building behind mine. It was a -------- couple and the wife was a loud, rude, obnoxious idiot. She was constantly yelling, at her husband, her daughter, on the phone and ALWAYS in the grassy area behind her unit, so that everyone could hear her. Of course she was also a smoker. Her and her husband cooked dinner on their barbecue grill literally every night in the summer, making my place smell like charcoal and lighter fluid. The cops were called several times on the husband due to his yelling and throwing things and punching holes in the walls and doors of his unit. They were finally kicked out in August and my life has been much better since. Some neighbors with semi-aggressive dogs sometimes don't have them on leashes. I don't mind if friendly dogs are off leash, but I don't like having my dog attacked by other people's dogs. My dog is semi-aggressive as well, but I always have him on a leash. When assessing other's reviews, I recommend checking out their grammar and spelling. If they use "are" instead of "our" repeatedly, maybe they aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

                                    Do Not Rent Here!

I decided to rent here because I was short on time and the price seemed reasonable. after touring the location I also saw it had a pool, hot tub, steam room, gym etc' and that got me very excited. BIG MISTAKE! First of all, the pool was closed while it was still a warm season (what s that all about?!) then the hot tub was closed most of the times I tried going there. The steam room is the saddest joke of all, it works very poorly. Second, all the appliances broke one after the other in matter of months. Including everything. Parking is horrible. The lawn is muddy all the time. Not grassy. The staff seems nice but is not always honest. Get everything in writing or better don't rent here. The best thing I can say about this place is that they respond to problems in a timely manner, the bad thing is it doesn't always mean the problem is solved. Please do yourself a favor and just don't rent here that way you don't have to deal with all this. They also try raising rent for renewing leases as oppose to lowering or keeping it the same price... messed up.

                                      Great!

I was very taken with this complex when I found it, it seemed near perfect as apartment complexes go. It's aesthetically attractive, very pet-friendly, and in a decent location relative to shopping. I didn't like the rent, but alas, its inline with other complexes like it. The ratings on this site, however, gave me pause. From the car break-ins to the bad manangement stories, I was very hesitant. In the end, however, I've been happy with my decision. Management has been responsive to my needs and responded to a water main issue to my building. Several of my neighbors were understandably frustrated with the situation, but it did get fixed.

Used to live there. TERRIBLE!! One of the unit caught on fire!!!

Thank goodness, I don't live there anymore! It was awful!! I lived there for three or so.. years with my family. I WANTED TO MOVE REALLY BADLY!!! My comment on the mantainance/service: Practically every appliance we had broke(dishwasher, washer and dryer, and the refridgerator!)Everytime something broke someone would come and fix it, and it still wouldn't work..so then they come and try to fix it again..and again...AND GUESS WHAT? It it still wouldn't work!!! SO FINALLY(weeks later)they would bring in a new appliance. They only problem with that, is that sometimes they would work for only a short period of time, and then they too would break! We went through THREE Washers!!! THREE! Finally they gave us a brand new looking one that actually lasted until we moved out! It's NOT like we were obusive to are applicances. We used them like any typical person would..SO, we should of had a problem with them. After all, they were meant to be used..wern't they? Like, the only way they wouldn't of broke, is if we didn't used them!!! And to comment on the Amenties/Recreation center: The hot tube was DISGUSTING.(AT LEAST WHEN I LIVED THERE)They like.. NEVER cleaned it. And the pool was nasty at first--like dirty, and unkept..But i guess they did a better job at keeping it as time went by. They even added heaters! And last of all, the gym wasn't all that great. Some of the machines and equipment didn't work. And to comment on the crime: They were alot of hoodlumish kids that lived there..I guess? Groups of kids would hang out around the apartment complex..AT NIGHT!!!! And were often very noisy. Sometimes they would be a little rowdy and the COPS would show up. Are CD player was stolen, it happen to be parked in the spot were a group of kids were hanging out..shortly before!! Wonder who took it? AND.. we had the RUDEST neighboors. Are downstairs neighboor-in particular-was CRAZY. She was constantly fighting with her boyfriend, and the COPS would constantly show up at her place. IT WAS REALLY ANNOYING!!! AND The worst thing about it(THIS IS KIND OF CREEPY) In 2001 there was a FIRE, in one of the units. Two people died!!! I'm not joking!! AND they NEVER gave an explaination of why or how it happend. Ironically, At the same time there was a recall on the same brand of heaters that were in the apartments. Apparently, they were causing HOUSE FIRES! My dad called them, and they said they fixed the problem along time ago...But who knows? So overall I wouldn't recomend living there, but that's my opinion!

                                          My Horror Stories

I'm in my second year of living here and really, the only reason I live here is the location. Now though, I'm finally moving out of this place. My first big problem was in 2006 when my apartment was infested with Carpenter Ants. After reading up on Carpenter Ants, I knew that I had a big problem on my hands, especially seeing the GIANT! ones with wings, indicating a colony had taken nest in the walls. My whole living room was swarmed by thousands of ants. After informing them of the problem, they sent out their maintenance guy to look at it. I said I wanted it checked by professionals and "bombed" i.e. massive attack on the colony, not some Raid spray. They didn't. First, their maintenance guy tried something. They didn't go away. Then a man from a pest company came out. Well, all he did was drill holes in the wall and put poison in the walls, which is fine if you DON'T have a colony, but a few stragglers. I knew it wouldn't work and said as much. Any idiot could have looked carpenter ants on the internet and read that what I had was a huge colony infestation. Well, finally, a different pest company came out. Turns out the WHOLE complex building was infested with a bunch of colonies and they had to fumigate. Yeah. So, if they had done as I asked the first time, maybe I wouldn't have had ants at my place for ONE WHOLE MONTH. I fought for rent reduction and got it. The year comes and goes. Now, it's late October. Outside my apartment (a different one in a different building in the complex). There was a leak outside our front door in the stairwell. Maybe it's human nature to expect people to do the right thing, for I didn't make a big deal out of it, I just informed staff of the problem. Their solution was to displace the water from the stairwell to a drain in the courtyard. For two to three weeks we've had a hose running across the paths and lawn spouting out water. Then we get a power outage and the machine stopped working. My roommate woke up to a flooded room. Like a swamp flooded. Squish squish. Our front door area was flooded, inside and out. A corner in my room got damp. So that day was a stressful day of harshly criticizing the staff for waiting so long to do anything about the problem, and now a problem occurred that was 100% preventable. A few other apartments were flooded. My roommate and I were put up in a hotel for 2 nights, a ------ TravelLodge, the kind where you consider sleeping in your clothes. No other tenants got such accommodations, and I only think they gave it to us because I threw 2 fits in their office and talked about bringing in a lawyer. When the plumber come out the day of the leak, turns out there was a broken water main and NOT a simple problem with the water pressure like the maintenance staff claimed, no ------- duh. I think everyone BUT the maintenance staff knew that something big was wrong. That's what happens when professionals aren't called out to asses problems, you get dumb guesses by guys who are paid to fix doors and pick up trash around the complex. I'm still in the midst of this fix. The front lawn is all dirt from fixing the water main. Sediment spewed into the pipes and blocked water from getting through. Some people had no water for a whole weekend, though by law, that is a problem that should be fixed within 24 hours. It really sucks when you can't use your own toilet. The management never know what's going on. Um, management is in charge of overseeing the complex, it's YOUR JOB to know. They act all nice and friendly, but never take responsibility, never know what's going on and play "innocent." To anyone who takes residence here: be aware of Landlord/Tenant Laws and ALWAYS, ALWAYS give WRITTEN NOTICE of even the smallest problems. It gives you legal rights that you don't get if you only verbally inform them of your problems. Or don't stay here!

There are some problems like you'd get with any large community, and yes the police are here often. When a man in the complex shot himself, the management handled it well. <br><br>The grounds are kept up nicely. Every day I see staff cleaning up the garbage residents toss around. Parking is ok, though when younger residents are having large parties it can be hard to park near your own building.<br><br>My only problem is the rent increases, and the only reason I will leave is due to rent becoming too high for me to afford.

I've been living there for almost 2 yrs now. I love it - I find the management to be VERY responsive to my needs. I have never had a problem getting any repairs done in a timely manner (even something big like replacing dishwasher, getting new toilet installed). I personally have not seen/heard any loud behavior - it feels very safe to me...
