Maintenance is great
I really liked it there. I moved back to Michigan, because of the prices out there. I actually worked there for the last three months we lived in Wa and , I must say that they really have got it together. The maintenance staff which i was part of really cares about the tenants and the office staff does as well. It is very quiet and most of the other tenants are polite and friendly. The company that it is owned by( Equity ) is a very good company and it would be a good choice for employment as well as for living. I really miss it there as the staff are great people. Dont listen to any of the other jerk offs that trash the place. Its the cheapest apartments with probably the most gorgous property you will ever see since it is 20 years old and the trees are fully mature. Anywhere else in Edmonds is $1400 plus. Although its a little older, its a great place to work and live.

**WARNING**WARNING**
The Edmonds Police say "the Firdale Village apartment complex takes 27% of police resorses". There has been many car thefts, car prowelings and various crimes commited there.
The managment is very rude and utterly incompitent, the appartment buildings are all equiped with 'caddet heaters' they are a widely known fire hazard. I awoke one early morning to a fire in my living room on my carpet! The heater was spitting out glowing hot embers. The carpet was taken out of my damage deposit.
You are probably reading this as a result of the above described managment, Let this be a lesson to you, as it was me. Read appartment reviews before making a deposit.

Look Elsewhere.
Ive lived in the Firdale village apartments for under a year and i already want to leave! The scenery is beautiful but dont let it fool you. The management is horrible and the security sucks. They sit in their car sleeping or talking on there cell phone the entire time they are there. They Will raise the rent on you in the middle of your lease and make it hard for you to pay it. The hot tub is never open. The sauna does not work and the barely ever keep the pool open other that may, june, july, and august. Cars are constantly being stolen. My neighbors corvette was stolen a few months ago. That office staff looks in people car and digs around in them if you leave your window rolled down. The raise garbage and sewage on you. Loud neighbors. Pot heads everywhere. When you walk through the fields you smell drugs. Teenagers partying every night . Dog poop everywhere. The only thing that is nice about this place is the location . Plzz looke elsewhere!!!!!!

PLEASE DON'T RENT HERE!!!!!!!!
Management is very very very poor, very unorganized. The people from the office drives around and checks out peoples cars, also looks inside of them during the evening. They will tow your car if parked to long in one spot, even if you live there! Rent increases all the time. I had cat urine stains on my carpet when I moved in. paint missing on the corners of my walls.Utilities every month are very expensive. Your paying a company in california for your utilites. appliances are very old. light fixtures sometimes make crackling sounds when turned on. But yet they want to increase the rent. Apartment rental changes every week if you want to rent. It's never the same price as listed, it changes all the time. The apartment that I wanted I made a deposit for it. The next day I go to sign my lease they gave the apartment to someone else. There excuse was "They got there first!!". When ever you want to use the hottub, it's always out of order. It runs for 2 days then it always something wrong with it.
People never pick up after their dogs. Always dog crap on the grass. Sometimes you can smell it when you have your doors open.
Security sucks!(or as I should say what security?) They never come around during the night. If they do they usually park and sleep in the car or talking on their cell phone. Peoples cars being broke into constantly. If you have a great alarm on your car that is sensitive, they will constantly complain to you about it being noisy. If you want to speak with the manager you usually have to make an appointment to meet with her, if your lucky!!!. She is usually gone, or never in the office. Tenants that live at firdale village also have told me that one office lady went into their car to see who owned it. Another tenant was 10 cents short on her rent, they gave her an eviction notice!! NO LIE!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!! DON'T RENT FROM HERE!!!! MANAGEMENT IS NOT HONEST. CONSTANT LIES ALL THE TIME!! IT'S LOUD HERE!! DRUG DEALING!! STEALING. IT'S NO LIE!!!!!!

Management Says One Thing Does Another - All Schmooze
Management will initially sound nice and tell you they will help you anyway they can...this is all BUNK. The management turnoever in this place is unbelievable! They are gossips, will take advantage of you, have some boundary issues, will harass you, and, if you ask to speak to anyone in upper management you will get continously blocked, AND, sent to a whirlwind of voice mails where your calls will not be returned. What will be returned is retalilation and disrespect from management. Look at your landlord tenant laws befor you rent here and know your rights. You will see many of the management's behaviors here are illegal. They do go into apartments without your knowing they were even in YOUR apartment. The turnover for all employees and in the Manager's office is unbelievable! You will be in a constant state of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. One management person will tell you one thing and another will tell you the opposite. They act like they are truly caring and genuine, yet, this is only a put on. And, the noise level is ridiculous, the parking lot is not safe, there is no safety patrol, and there are weird neighbors. Read other reviews!

Turn away!!
I have lived here for3 years and am moving out at the end of the month luckily. Firdale looks okay from the outside and the staff may appear helpful in the beginning...but be forewarned...you will hate it here after a few months. Unless you like loud noises waking you at 6am(even on the weekend, stepping in the dog poop from your inconsiderate neighbors and terribly unhelpful office staff. If those are on your list for what to look for in an apartment..then Firdale is the palceforyou!!

LOOK ELSEWHERE
Do yourself a favor and move right past this place. We've lived there for 3 years and in that time we have VERY LITTLE good to say about this place. In fact the only good, is the maintenance staff who are always working and always willing to help if you have a problem. Unfortuntely you can't say the same for the managing staff. Rather than just rant, I'll just list ONLY SOME of the things you will deal with if you decide to move here....

1) Both our cars have been broken into multiple times and one was stolen...the hired security is a joke (sits in car sleeping).
2) Dog crap everywhere you go...those are the kind of people that live there.
3) LOUD, LOUD, LOUD
4) They will raise rent on you every single time, and not just a little bit.
5) Old (grandma old) appliances that will ruin your things.

I could go on forever, but instead just listen to all these reviews....LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!! RENTER BEWARE!!
NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
I don't recommend this place to anyone!!! The apartment was dirty when we moved in, the carpet was stained, the fridge was nasty, the floor around the washer/dryer disgusting (large brown stains of I-don't-want-to-know), the tiles in the kitchen and bathroom were stained (still are, I could not get the dirt off, no matter what I tried), the appliances are old, we have a BIG mold problem. Many people who live there are loud and obnoxious. They speed through the parking lot, they are having loud arguments outside the apartment in the middle of the night, our friends' car (who also lives here) got broken into twice and finally stolen... the list goes on and on! It is way too expensive! Don't move here! We can't wait to move in a couple of months.

Firdale Village is a good place to live
I have been living at Firdale Village for a couple of years. The office staff has always been so nice to me and made me feel like they really care. My neighbors around me are always very talkative. The maintance has always been very prompt to get out to me apartment. They also fill me in on what was wrong and how they fixed it. I really like living here!!!

Suitable for younger ages
I have not had any problems living here. The staff has great customer service and does assist in a timely manner. The only problems I have encountered are the 1st floor BBQ's that burn directly into your open windows and the residents living above. Both of these are not Equity's fault but the residents living there. I recommend this for college students first starting out or adults under the age of 65. I do not recommend this for kids.

Not so bad...
We have live at Firdale Village for almost two months now. So far I only have two complaints...There are several pet owners who do not leash their dogs or pick up after them. The poop situation is so bad that my kids can not play in the grassy areas..or cement for that. The other complaint is the terrible play ground. We were so excited to live close to the playground, but once we moved in, we realized how unsafe it is for children.

As for the staff and parking, we have had no problems at all!! The management has been wonderful from the very first visit up to now. When we put in a maintenance request, they were here right when they said they would be and had everything fixed in a matter of minutes. Since then, we have not had anything break down. We are very happy with the apartment and staff.

Not what it seems!
Firdale Village may look nice, but it's far from it. Many of the people that live here are undesirable weirdos - it seems like they'll let anyone in with a $300 security deposit. Eviction notices, late rent notices, etc. posted on doors... I'm embarresed to invite anyone over! I should also mention that I've had to call the cops numerous times for the loud parties or late night arguements that my lovely neighbors like to partake in. The night patrol they have is a JOKE - I've never seen anyone around patrolling! The people here drive so fast through the parking lot - even though there are speed bumps and posted speed limit - I wouldn't let my kids play outside here. There is a "playground" - that's a laugh, you're better of driving to a park. Many also like to play their music loud from their car or apartment any time of the day. Our apartment needed new flooring in the bathrooms and kitchen... but of course they didn't replace them - they're so worn & stained, it's a disgrace! Oh and parking - forget about it... nothing to be found since everyone here has 5 cars per apartment - they should have assigned parking... but then if they had that who would buy the covered parking?!?! I will say the maintanence has usually responded quickly - not really a problem for me there. Management has been ok... I don't have much to say about them. Just mostly the neighbors are something left to be desired. I can't wait to move!

Horrible place to live
These apartments are WAY too expensive for what you really get! I live on the second floor of a 3 bedroom apartment and I can ALWAYS hear the neighbors walking around upstairs. Sometimes I can even hear the baby crying at night. Parking is terrible. There are always notices about people's cars being stolen or broken into. Maintence takes forever to do anything. Everyone hauls --- through the parking lot. People let their dogs crap all over the lawn without picking it up. I can't wait to move!

Do yourself and your family a favor! AVOID THIS ONE
I've been a tennant here since Dec. 03 on a year lease. TICK-TOCK! December 04 can't get here fast enough. I am ashamed of the fact I live here, NOTHING good has come of this. Between the riff-raff, management and maintenance staff I am disgusted, disappointed and worried everyday I live here. INADEQUATE PARKING,UNSAFE,LOUSY PLAYGROUND (you can't even call it a playground)and PEOPLE DRIVE WAY, WAY TOO FAST through the parking lot. If you love your kids don't put them in harms way by moving here! You will be much better off spending a little extra money and go somewhere else.As people have said in other reviews, This is a "WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHES" and It's not me "crying wolf." This is genuine advice from me to you.I'v been meaning to post since January. My apologies to those who didn't read this before then. If I save one family from moving here by posting this evaluation, I have helped them more than the'll ever know. This is my humble opinion yours may differ.Good luck and godspeed my friends.

Don't plan on getting any sleep.
Firdale Village management is trained to be very nice and accomodating to people just untill they signed their lease. Everything beautifull about the place is purely exterior, that's what they are spending most of our money on. In stead of using the money they make to fix problems and provide proper utilities they use most of it to keep the place looking atractive for potential renters. That's where you won't get any sleep.

This week our great management has decided to have the asfalt on the parking lots and roads re-sealed, which basically means the good-quality asfalt gets a make-over whereby everything looks equally black again, looks pretty. Every morning for an entire week from 7 till 8 or even 9 towtrucks were honking people out of bed trying to get them to move their cars! Now this was communicated to the tenants a week upfront, so if you leave a car while going on a holiday (it is summer right now) you can pick it up somewhere else after paying towing fees (knowing the management they'll just send you the bill).

Another great thing about sleeping out in Firdale Village is Landscaping. Every night hundreds of sprinklers start spraying for about 20 minutes to keep the grass nice and green. The one under my bedroom window started every night at 3:30 untill 3:50. How do I know? In the summer I like to sleep with open windows (not unreasonable) and every night at 3:30 for a couple of weeks this sprinkler would squeel like a tea-kettle! I communicated this twice to the management and once to Equity Residential (who owns the place). Nothing came of this, so now the sprinkler will never ever make any noice any more as I took care of it myself (yes... at 3:30 at night). I also don't care having a yellow spot of grass in front of my window, as long as I get my sleep.

Then there is me going to the management to report a constantly beeping fire-alarm box (beeped all night, right next to my window). It was on a sunday and I might as well have reported it to the Smurfs because they wouldn't do anything about it either. Another sleepless night followed. In this case an e-mail to Equity residential the next day got someone to call me. The guy told me he talked about this with our management and it should be fixed within the day. In the evening I got sick of the beeping and a check with the management told me that nobody knows what the heck I was talking about! And now we are talking about a faulty fire alarm system, not just sleepless nights! The guy who came over half an hour later fixed the problem within minutes (without tools, without parts). Thank you very much.

Oh... the fact that EVERY MORNING at 8:00 AM the landscapers mow the lawn, weed-wack around and blow leaves should also be mentioned.

As for other tenants...
Dogs are allowed around here, this means a bunch of a-socials put their loud barking dogs on the balconies at night. I've also seen people BBQ-ing on their wooden balconies with flames going several feet high and I've seen (and heard) people try out their new home-cinema sets at 2:00 AM at full blast ahead. A lot of people here socialize till deep in the night outside mine and other bedroom windows while smoking one cigarette after another, stinking up our bedrooms.

Have a good night all!
Not even if it were free. RUN AWAY ! ! ! ! !
From the personal liability insurance that you must pay for your self due to the fatality fire they had here, to the dishonest manipulation of the office staff and very poor maintenance people. To the ever increasing lack of parking due to letting in every one they can with there “only $200 to move in” and hitting you with a increase in rent to a ridiculously inflated “fair market value” and additional $100 on top of that if your lease expires. Total $900 per month and hitting you with every kind of fee and charge they can think of on top of it.

Do I feel safe here? A fireman at the Edmonds fire department told me that the reason the fire alarms went off every time the power went out was due to an antiquated alarm system and were actually tired of coming out all the time (4 that I know of) and it taking four or five attempts to get it to reset.

The staff in the office is very dishonest for the fact that they will tell you any thing to get you to move in and then do nothing but hit you with BS notices and costly fees for crap once they get you on the lease. If they had fixed the alarms the crack heads that started the fire would possibly not have died, and all that lost there property and homes would have been better off. Not to mention the rest of us paying hundreds of dollars in insurance to offset Equity’s premiums.

If you doubt there honesty look at the posting that said this was a good place to live by “Smirfgirl”. Consider the wording carefully. Yes, its one of the office staff! The wording reads just like there brochure and news paper adds. How’s that for lying manipulation. I even suspect I know which one it is as I live here right now and am dieing to get out myself. I am not sure but I shall when I talk with my attorney tomorrow but what I am told is that they do things to make the extra buck that are actually illegal and then back down only when challenged on the item. Fear tactics. Yes, I’m very afraid right now of retaliation from them just for writing this!

RUN AWAY VERY VERY FAST! IT’S A TRAP IF YOU SIGN A LEASE!!!
FIRE FIRE! READ THIS FIRST
Families of Firdale fire victims file suit

By Jim Haley
For the Enterprise

Relatives of two people who died in a 2000 blaze have sued the owners and managers of the Firdale Village Apartments in Edmonds, alleging negligence for failing to provide "a reasonably safe" facility and an effective fire alarm system.

Billy Joe Clenney, 21, of Edmonds and Jessica Hanks, 20, of Snohomish died in Clenney's apartment of smoke inhalation. The fire started in his living room and did extensive damage to a 24-unit building of the 389-unit complex on 244th Street SW.

The Dec. 26, 2000, blaze ignited a call by local fire officials and legislators to require owners of older, larger apartment complexes to install automatic sprinkler systems, but efforts thus far have failed.

The lawsuit was filed last week in Snohomish County Superior Court, seeking unspecified damages. Defendants include Equity Residential Properties, a Maryland real estate investment trust. Also sued were ERP Operating Limited Partnership of Illinois and a Japanese corporation, Hochiki.

It alleges the defendants failed "to provide and maintain a reasonably safe premises for its residents and guests." The lawsuit also alleges the apartment's alarm system was not "in good repair so as to be operational, functional and effective at all times."

State Rep. Mike Cooper, D-Edmonds, 21st District, a Shoreline Fire Department officer, used the Firdale fire as an example in his effort to make older apartments safer. For two years he led a fight to require owners of older apartment complexes to retrofit them with automatic sprinkler systems designed to extinguish fires before they cause extensive damage or death.

Legislative efforts in 2001 and 2002 failed, partly because of the high cost of adding sprinklers to older buildings.

The Firdale complex was built in 1987 under older county codes that did not require sprinklers. Lets go with the consensus
If you have 6 bad reviews and 3 good reviews, Maybe you should look elsewhere. I in fact am a current resident and wish I had never signed on the dotted line. The apartments are falling apart, its hard to get someone to fix problems, and dont get me started on the managment. I wouldnt recommend this place to a bum if it was free rent!!!! Now they decide to make everyone get manditory liability insurance because Firdale doesnt want to carry the cost of it any more. So fees for parking in a covered spot, fees for water, sewer, and trash. Now Liability Insurance. Whats next ? a Fee for calling the front office and asking questions. Its worse than a bank. I suggest anyone who is looking into F.V. to move on, there are plenty of better places to choose from. OH, and I love the fact that they are able to stuff 8 people (I am not making this up) into the apartment next to me and between them own 12 cars, no one has covered parking. So I have to park about 3 buildings away.. what are all the covered parking fee´s paying for?

Management good but, tenants were another story.
Management was responsive and nice. Although, would take a while to get problems fixed (dishwasher; leak from upstairs; etc.). They also would not take into effect, how they placed new tenants in thier facilities as respects the current tenants. We were living on the bottom floor of a two story building. Six people moved into the two bedroom apartment above me. They were very messy and loud tenants and I believe that management should have brought the mear volume of people in a small area into concideration. Instead placing the family in a bottom floor unit. However, the layout of the apartments was appealing as well as the grounds maintenance and over all look of the complex.

Firdale´s a Great Place to Live.
I was surprised by some of the other postings on this site, so I thought I´d write a more acurate portrayal...
I moved into Firdale Village Apartments in mid January of 2003. I found everything that I was looking for as a single woman looking for a safe, friendly community. Clinton and Linda in the office have been there to help me with everything I´ve needed.
I enjoy having a raquetball court, a swimming pool, a steam room, a hot tub, a free tanning bed, and a gym all available at my apartment complex. The two times I´ve requested the help of the maintenance team they´ve been there to fix the problem the next day.
Edmonds is a great place to live... just minutes from the water front and ferries. There´s a Costco, grocery stores, and all sorts of other shops and restaurants less than 5 minutes away. Firdale Village Apartments is on the busline so it´s easy for me to take a bus if my car is in the shop.
The grounds here at firdale are well kept and have been nicely landscaped with flowering trees and lots of grassy areas. Many of the apartments look out onto a beautiful courtyard. As far as safety is concerned... it´s well lit at night and there is a night-time courtesy patrol as well.
I would send anyone of my friends or family to Firdale Village. It´s a great place to live.
