I lived at Madera Point Apartments from August 2011- October 2012. First, the property was managed by Allison-Shelton Reality, and then managed by MEB Property Management. I am an individual who requires emotional and physical assistance from my dog (a trained, female, American Pit Bull Terrier)as my condition greatly affects my ability to carry out my daily responsibilities and the physical task of picking up objects that have made their way onto the floor. The Allison-Shelton Reality group made it possible for me to remain supported by my dog, and MEB Property Management honored the agreement with absolutely no interference. It is a true blessing to have a management company who understands the tremendous need for a disabled person to have the help of their companion without forcing a (sometimes ridiculous) breed restriction on the owner. My dog fulfills my needs and so has Madera Point. As for the property grounds, construction, staff (maintanence and office), noise and parking- I never had ANY problems (only the loud neighbors who would leap and bound up the stairway..but thats IT! and that is not the fault of the apartment or managers.) I would recommend these apartment homes to family and friends.

DO YOU LIKE YOUR PLACE CLEAN? DO NOT MOVE HERE

THIS IS NO JOKE! I'M A CURRENT RESIDENT, MOVED HERE THINKING IT WOULD BE NICE. THE OFFICE, POOL, SHOW ROOM LOOK IS NICE, STAFF ACT NICE AT FIRST! BUT WHEN YOU STAY THE FIRST WEEK YOUR JUST ANOTHER NUMBER TO THE STAFF, MAINTENANCE, AND TO THE NEIGHBOR HOOD. INSULATION IS SO BAD YOU CAN HEAR NEIGHBORS RIGHT THROUGH THE WALL, YOU CAN HEAR NEIGHBORS UP AND DOWN STAIRS. WHOLE COMPLEX IS IN ABSOLUTELY POOR CONDITION, IT'S DISAPPOINTING DECISION. DO NOT MOVE HERE!! ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE A NICE QUITE APARTMENT!! AGAIN DO NOT MOVE HERE!! IT IS JUST A WASTE OF YOU MONEY!!

Dear Missroseaz2012, I am so sorry to hear of such a horrible experience here at Madera Point. As you may be aware, MEB now manages Madera Point. My name is Lea and I am the Property Manager. I would be happy to sit with you and discuss your concerns. Feel free to contact me at anytime. maderapoint@mebapartments.com

I have read most of these comments and wonder if my side of the apartments is better than yours because many of these comments aren't right. I have lived her about 6 months, met the girls in the office which are really nice especially the new assistant manager Diana, the maintenance guys have been really cool too. Maybe some people need to get real and start living within their means(you can't afford a home on 2 acres with no one around and live in an apartment) like the ones who complain about other people or noise and even an order taking 40 minutes to fix. Move to a house so you can pick up your own trash, mow the lawn, pull weeds & fix your own problems(a/c, toilets, leaks, etc etc)! Wonder how long it would take to get things fixed that way plus you can also sit outside on your driveway and watch your car all night the way you expect the manager to do here. Get real people. I have had no problems here other than the light not working outside but when I called the office and told them they had it fixed. That is how it works people!

Thank you for your response. It is possible that some areas of the property are more desirable than others. It is my job to make sure that each resident is taken care of to the best of my ability.I appreciate your kind words.

Overall, not a terrible place to live

I have mixed feelings on the year I spent here. I didn't exactly have good or bad experiences but there are some things worth writing about. This "gated" community has serious issues with the quality of their gates. I can safely say that the gates are broken and left open more often than not. The main entrance gate was open for several months at one point before it was fixed. This wasn't something that bothered me particularly (I didn't have to stop to put in a code when I came home) but if I am paying to live in a gated community I expect the gates to be functional on a regular basis. I did not feel particularly safe when walking outside, day or night. I had instances where random men would follow me to and from the mail boxes and one man repeatedly came to my apartment for random favors like asking to use my internet. He would just "happen" to be around when I got home from school or work. I told him I didn't appreciate his visits and he was making me uneasy and thankfully he left it at that. I saw police vehicles in the complex on a regular basis, I never knew why they were there but I assume they weren't just visiting. The grounds are kept reasonably nice. I had huge issues, however, with the people living around me that had dogs and refused to clean up after them, even with the "pet centers" scattered around that had FREE bags to encourage clean up. That obviously didn't work. I liked my apartment itself, the kitchen was incredibly tiny and I had no counter or cabinet space but I was in the smallest unit and I understand you have to make up space somehow. My dishwasher was complete crap and the sink would clog regularly without me having done anything to cause it. The garbage disposal was very touchy and only worked half the time. I would attempt to use it on the days when I went to turn the water on and it wouldn't drain, on these days the disposal would also be nonfunctional. One thing I really hated about my unit was that I had the outside staircase on the opposite side of the wall from my living room. DO NOT live in one of these units if you choose to live here. You can hear every single footfall on those stairs (most people stomp up them anyways) and for whatever strange reason the staircase is connected to the wall, therefore the entire wall shakes and makes huge thumping sounds every time someone walks up or down the stairs. I liked the old office staff. The new girls are a bit rude and I hated having to go in and deal with them because they made me feel like I was an inconvenience. I came in one day to pay my rent to find that they had closed early. I knocked on the door until the girl looking at me through the window finally got up and came over. She rudely explained to me that they had not had any breaks that day so they had closed. I'm sorry your job that consists of sitting at a desk all day was so rough for you but on the day rent is due you really shouldn't close early. The far side of the parking lot where I parked was seemingly much lower than the nearer side and would flood very badly when it rained. This wasn't a huge problem for me since there was usually enough parking closer to my unit. But if you happen to get home late during monsoon season you should probably keep rain boots in your car. I had one maintenance issue that really irked me. I work nights so I go to bed very early and was awoken around 9 or 10 one night and the ceiling in my bathroom was leaking quite profusely. I called the emergency maintenance, they got back to me after about 30-45 minutes or so and told me to go talk to my neighbor upstairs and see if he had flooded anything. Apparently the maintenance staff DO NOT live on the property for some strange reason and he didn't want to come out unless he really had to. My neighbor hadn't flooded anything, the maintenance guys recaulked his bathtub anyways the next day and when the leaking continued into day 2 they finally came into my apartment and fixed the problem. Apparently it was condensation leaking from my air conditioner, they vacuumed it out and I didn't have any more issues. The complex is reasonably located close to shopping and the 101 and the 60. I enjoyed living here all and all but I work and go to school in north Phoenix so it was very unreasonable for me to continue living in Mesa.

Dear Morgy346, Thank you for your honesty. The property is now managed by MEB. Our staff will do whatever it takes to make the residents at Madera Point feel welcomed. There has been several changes in management and I do apologize for any inconveniences that you may have suffered during your stay. I am not sure if you are still living on site, if you are I would be happy to help you with any issues you are still having. Thank you, Lea Community Manager Madera Point Apartments

            DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY

This place is not a good place to live. They messed up on my lease, undercharging me for four months before catching the error. Then overcharging me on month five. The rest of the lease was on target as far as rent was concerned. The maintenance is horrible. A "maintenance emergency" takes over an hour to respond to. My toilet and bathtub have backed up twice now and maintenance just takes their time. This place has soured me on apartments forever.

------ Apartment Complex with High Crime

I have lived here for almost a year and will be leaving once my lease is up as have 2 of my neighbors in this building. Oh, and two other neighbors say they are leaving when their lease is up as well. The management is all about filling the quota by having the apartments leased. They lease to ANY ONE!! This place has rotating doors on renters. Had drug dealers living here and other tenants that have parties and doing drugs and drinking outside around the pool or on their patios. It is noisy, dogs always barking, college kids having parties; when you complain to the office they want YOU to tell them the apartment number or go and find out the exact apartment where the trouble is!!! Hello??!! I am not the manager. The staff is lazy; they don't go over the contract when you move in and tell you things- several tenants have gotten their cars towed because they didn't inform them that it is paid parking under the carports. They do not walk the property and see all the trash, they have maintenance and grounds keepers ONLY Mondays through Fridays!! So the parties on Friday that trash out the place stays till Mondays. The crime is high per the Mesa Police Dept. Cars getting broken into, bikes and scooters stolen, drug busts! The gates on the property have been stuck open THREE times in the past 5 months and the staff just says, "A work order has been placed to have the motors replaces". PLEASSSEEE!!!! Right now two gates are broke open and ANY ONE can come into this community. There are so many issues that I could not list all here; the lights always out on the sidewalks, the single women that let their kids run all over the community doing what they want, lack of professionalism and they charge you for the water and heating of the pool and lawns!! This is a problem since they don't keep it clean, the sprinklers are always broken and so is the hot tub. My apartment carpet is stained and dirty, several things broke when I moved in, I made a long list and only part of it was fixed; several of those issues are still issues and have been worked on more then two or three times!! This is not a place for people that want safety, quiet and peace of mind!!! I AM SAYING TO STAY AWAY AND DO NOT RENT HERE!!!!! Unless of course you do not care or you are someone that can put up with ------ conditions.

Positive Review for Madera Point are Blatant lies!

Something that sounds too good to be true usually is. I know this for a fact regarding Madera Point because I lived there and It's the ------- from the unprofessional on-site management to the tacky, inconsiderate tenants. The grounds are not well kept and that includes laundry facilities which are shoddy. Sure, it looks good from the street and the rental office and lobby. But beyond that, don't be fooled.

The Worst Apartment I Have Ever Lived In, DO NOT MOVE HERE!!

I am not one for publicly bashing companies but Madera crossed the line at neck-breaking speeds THE DAY I MOVED IN! The keys were not ready nor was the gate opener. The apartment was in horrible condition (ex: All the light switches in the apartment were not even connected to anything, they had to rewire the entire thing.) I listed 8 major problems that needed to be fixed ASAP and dozens of minor issues that I could live with until they got around to it. But it has been 3 weeks since then and I am still waiting for those major problems to be fixed. I am 23 years old and in college so I am very familiar with less than desirable living conditions and it takes a lot for me to do this but it definitely needs to be done. I could continue for pages, but the bottom line is THIS PLACE IS BY FAR THE WORST APARTMENT COMPLEX I HAVE EVER LIVED IN!

                      Love it here!

Madera is a very nice and friendly complex. I find it unfair that people give the complex a bad review when they just happened to move next to awful neighbors. The property can't help how residents behave and act. It's called "apartment" for a reason. If you don't want noise, or to be able to listen to other people through the walls -- don't move into an apartment ANYWHERE. I personally do not find this complex to be very noisy or inappropriate at all. Go live in a trash can or a house. Anytime that I have needed maintenance issues resolved, they are awesome and it's completed in a friendly, timely & professional manner. The management is fantastic! I have been living here for two years, and I do not have a single complaint. I am a very happy resident.

                      DON'T move here!!!!

Do not move here. Madera point was awesome when Aimco managed the property but when greystar took over everything started turning crappy. We had our car stolen right after the new management came in. AND the office was just plain rude to us. We had packages in the office they never told us about, mantience guys weren't nice at all. We had lived in Madera point 18 months before new managment came in and they new managment treated us like we were nothing. And to top it all off when we went to move out.. we paid through when our lease was up but moved out a week early, I left a few things in the apartment, like cleaning supplies and a full fridge of groceries AND when I came back to get my stuff they had already changed the locks and all my food was gone. Needless to say they left a horrible taste in my mouth and I am still pretty mad. Please do yourselves a favor and DO NOT move here.

The old mgt team was very nice and cared about our concerns, the maintence guys were the BEST!! I would have stayed there if those guys were still there but the new maintence guys don't speak english and are inexperienced. We are not renewing our lease because of the new mgt.

Well if you value anything you own you don't want to live here. Had a car stolen on January 20, 2007 from my assigned parking spot. Of course the gate were not working and the staff seemed unconcerned about the whole thing. The staff is very unfriendly here and only could say I hope you had insurance. After the car theft the gates had still not been repaired only to leave those whom stole my car to re-entry and steal somemore....I would run while you can. Apartments look good on the outside but looks are very deceiving.

None of the mantience people really know english either, the previous manteince people said hi to me everyday and always asked how things were. I am moving to a new apartment owned by Aimco when my lease is up. But If you dont mind people not talking to you and management not friendly then this is the place for you :) Like I said decent for the doller spent.

Mgt claims it's only hotter because no A/C vent but in winter it's much colder also. I'm going to have to buy insulation and try to seal it up myself since "there's no problem". My neighbors say they don't have this issue so I'm the unlucky one.
-The floors must be thin. The neighbors downstairs often play their TV/Radio loud enough for us to hear and the floor vibrates when they slam their front door. I won't complain since I'm sure our little daughter gets even when she starts running around.

Imagine if the other 200 happy residents of Madera Point logged on and told you how great their experience has been. I have lived at Madera for 2 years in a 2 bedroom and think it is wonderful. Sure the walls are a little thin, but what do you expect when you live in an apartment? The staff is nice, the grounds are well kept, and maybe the surrounding area does not look that great but madera point is a true diamond in the rough. Management does care...and i am glad to see Heather has returned because when she was here before she always addressed my concerns.

Whatever You Do, Don't Move Here!

My husband and I moved to Madera Point from another Aimco owned community in Michigan in September 2004. (Yes, the one in Michigan was not so great, either, but we saved a bunch of money through the transfer program.)

Our troubles with MP began before we even moved. We had been in contact with them over the phone and internet regarding a ground-floor apartment several months before we moved. We wanted to ensure a bottom floor apartment, as lugging groceries up steps in 120 degree heat is not our cup of tea! We were asked to send them a $99 check as good faith money a couple of months before we moved, which was no problem. Shortly before we were ready to move, I noticed the check hadn't cleared, so I called MP to ask why. They said that they wouldn't be cashing the check until after we moved in. I said, "How can we move to Arizona and still have our Michigan account open? You guys either need to cash it now before we close the account or I can give you our credit card number." They said they'd take the credit card number, which I gave them.A couple of weeks went by, and then someone from MP called asking for our deposit. I said, "I gave you guys the credit card number a couple of weeks ago." They insisted up and down that that was against policy and that they would never do something like that. A heated argument ensued with me insisting that I know I wasn't dreaming when I gave them the CC number. I was so ticked off that I called 53 other apartment complexes in the area, but none had washer/dryer hookups, which we needed. So we were stuck with MP.

Just before we moved, MP told us to call when we got into the state so they could have our keys ready to go for us when we got there. We called when we got into Flagstaff to tell them we'd be there in a few hours. When we got there, they didn't have our keys ready and our cat was sitting in the hot car for about 15 minutes (DH was driving the moving truck, I was driving the car). This was September and it was well over 90 degrees. The girl in the office said she didn't know where the keys were and that I had to wait for the manager, who was showing an apartment.

That night, DH and I got the moving truck unloaded and started putting things away. When we couldn't move anymore from exhaustion (we had driven from Albuquerque that day), we went to take a shower. The water stank like rotten eggs.We called maintenance. They came over and said that, since the apartment had been sitting empty for 4 months, the hot water tank had been sitting idle the whole time. (Which probably meant that the apartment was cleaned about 5 months ago and not again since!) They said to keep the hot water running for two tanks of hot water. Mind you, we were exhausted, sweaty, and dirty. We just wanted to take a shower and go to sleep. But no, we had to wait another hour getting the hot water to stop reeking. Also bear in mind that at MP, you pay for your own water, so we had to pay for those two tanks of water that was unusable. Now I ask, why couldn't they have run the water *before* we arrived? They knew when we were coming!

Speaking of water, our bill there for a one bedroom was $35-$40. Since we have moved into our house, where we run the lawn sprinklers at least twice a week, the bill hasn't been over $35. Something's fishy there.

When I gave the apartment it's first cleaning, there was so much dust and grime on the back of the refrigerator that I'm shocked it didn't catch on fire. We also found rusty nails and acrylic fingernails all over the floors. Shows you how well they clean around there.

The noise level at MP was horrible and was definitely our principal complaint about the place. Our apartment was facing the gate and the parking lot, so we heard that gate creaking open at all hours. People constantly were going in and out with stereos at full blast. Neighbors had loud parties, and we called the police about that a lot. The lawn people started their noisemaking machines at about 6 AM. The walls were very thin and we could hear our upstairs neighbor (who was the nocturnal type) simply walking around. We started sleeping with earplugs.

In order to send outgoing mail, you have to put it into a basket in the office during regular business hours. I never trusted those people not to accidentally/on purpose lose our mail somehow since we had a hate/hate relationship, so I always took ours to the post office.

We asked management to have maintenance come over to fix the ceiling fan in our bedroom and to make sure they removed their shoes, since this was during the wet winter we just had and we didn't want mud all over. They refused, saying that was a "health issue", even though I brought up the fact that our last Aimco community in MI never had a problem removing shoes. So the fan never got fixed.

Our recessed light burned out in our dining area. I went to the office to get a new one, and they tried to hand me a regular bulb. I said, "That's a recessed light, y'know!" The woman was all confused, stuttered around for a minute, and then said she'd send maintenance over.

We changed our phone number and called to give it to management. They lost it and we got a nasty e-mail stating that we never gave it to them and that we were in breach of lease. We refused to give them the number again.

Finally, we had enough, plus we needed to jump into the housing market while we could still afford it out here. We moved into our first home in March 2005. A couple of months after moving, we got something in the mail from MP. It was a copy of an estimate from a company to fix their retaining wall.A note on the bottom said, "U-Hual (note their misspell) verified the damage." Huh? I called MP and they said we backed our moving truck into their retaining wall when we moved and that we owed over $1000. I said, "We never rented a U-Haul. We got a moving truck through Remax, our Realtor." Well, I can tell you there was dead silence after that! They were caught in a lie and knew it. Boy, I wish I could've seen the look on that woman's face! As extra insurance, I had our Realtor fax them a letter stating that there had been no damage to the moving truck so they'd leave us alone.

In closing, don't move into MP if you are considering it at all. (Unless, of course, you enjoy hearing and/or making noise, in which case you'll fit right in.) The management are twits, many of the residents are of questionable character, and you won't be able to sleep.

I used to live at Madera Point for 1 1/2 years. My brother and I shared a 2 bed/2 bath and it was nice. There were the occasional fixer uppers, but maintenance was great about it. They handled it in a timely manner. Our location was nice, we had the amenities we needed and management was cooperative, especially Heather, when she was there at the time.

After I moved, I got a notice in the mail from them listing INCORRECT charges for my early lease termination. She listed charges for a pet. I never had any animals the whole time I was there. She also tried to charge me for a window fixture which management never had in the apartment since I moved in. Don't be fooled by their cheap move-in price and kindness. That all changes once you sign the lease. The management are young, ignorant and money greedy. They are also rude and inconsiderate.

The office is horrible...don't bother to complain or suggest anything because they are quick to tell you that your under lease and they can evict you!

This is only my second apartment, and I tried to get a safe mix of good cost and a satisfactory level of living. The cost was pretty reasonable at Madera Point, and the staff is friendly. One of the annoying things is the noise level of the apartments (big two bedrooms) right next to the street on Dobson. Unfortunately their nicest apartments are also the noisiest.

We had a few initial problems with maintanence but since then everything has been running smoothly. Madera Point is owned by AIMCO, and that company has a policy that they will respond to a maintenance request within 24 hours. That doesn't mean they'll fix it within 24 hours, but still...

The apartments have a cute cottage-y feel from the street, but once inside or with a close inspection they reveal themselves to be moderately well kept older apartments. Nothing fancy, and kind of aged but the grounds are nice and green and clean.

There isn't too much noise except the huge problem with the street. All hours of the night I hear cars squealing and honking and whooshing by, and in the middle of it seems every night a train goes by at some point. Ick. But the population of Madera appears to be adults and the tenants aren't too noisy.

The neighborhood isn't very good, I do a lot of walking and it seems like daily I am accosted by the same neighborhood transients, all of whom are not friendly. Right next to the complex is a seedy Circle K gas station and on the other side is a retirement trailer park. I locked my bike up and the next day I came out and found one of the wheels gone as well as the bicycle seat...

As for security- at night it could be much better lit, and though the complex is gated it seems that the gates are always breaking down and getting vandalized somehow.

Life at Madera Point is fairly mediocre. It could be a lot better- it could also be a lot worse. I don't have any real bad experiences- but I don't have any real good ones either. I probably won't re-sign my lease but I'm glad to have found a place inexpensive and liveable for the time I have been here.
I lived here for two years. Once I looked at this site, I knew I had to write something about Madera Point. I lived on a 1st floor, 1 bedroom apartment. I could hear the upstairs neighbor walk around, use the bathroom, talk on the phone. The worst problem was the roaches. You never knew when you would find one...hiding in the kitchen pantry, walking across the floor, in the bathroom, etc. It was awful. I kept my place immaculate, but that did nothing to keep away the bugs. Lastly, my car was stolen one night from my parking space right outside my apartment. That was it for me and I gave my notice to move. The complex looks nice and that is what motivated me to move here. Heed the warnings and look elsewhere!
