Resident 2003 - 2004

Response to 11/7/04 "Rent to Own?"

I have been a resident since February of 2003 and I will not be buying because of the construction and design. I don't want to classify it as 'poor', but it's not what I would want to make an investment in. And I can hear the neighbors as if the walls were paper thin. The Fairfield management was poor, but the new staff is worse. If they are any indication of what you will be working with when buying the condo, good luck! If you leave a message after hours, don't plan on having it returned promptly, if at all. And the water run-off from the landscaping irrigation is shameful.

Not bad, but not good either

I lived at Nobel Court for a little over three years. Right after I moved in they fixed the interiors, which was really nice. Also the grounds are well maintained but the garages are not clean at all. However, the behavior of the office staff leaves a lot to be desired. They are unprofessional and sometimes even rude. Although I must say that things have improved over the years. The maintianence crew is better. I suggest that you make it a point to visit the place before you rent; otherwise you will be alotted a street-facing apartment and will have to live with traffic noise, which can be very loud at times. Also ask to see the parking space that will be given to you as some of them are really tiny and fit for only a Miata.

      unprofessional mgmt

just a note. as a visitor looking for a place to live, i would not move into nobel court. after viewing this site it is quite obvious that mgmt reviews the site often and writes positive reviews to counteract the views of its residents. this appears very unprofessional and presents a negative image of this apartment community. everyone has the right to expect good, quality service, regardless of where they live and should not be criticised for doing so. also, everyone should always be handled professionally, regardless, its all about good customer service.

Worst Place I've Ever Lived In

Nobel Court is the worst place I've lived in in over 30 years. Imagine going to sleep at night having to smell cigarette smoke, listening to someone snoring, and on top of that hearing the next door tenate take a leak. Yes the walls are that thin. Unless there is a loud party or loud music forget about the inept office staff or security doing anything about noise problems. If you live under someone who likes to walk around in jack boots and drop his weight lifting equip on the floor, heaven help you. It seems the pipes on the ceiling in the underground parking are always leaking god knows what. There are break ins, too. The parking spaces are way too small, suitable only if you have a VW.

            Average/student place to live

My only REAL complaint is that the office staff are incredibly rude and cold. Go in whenever they have prospective renters in there, however, and you will get first class treatment. If need be, ask to speak with Kyle Phillips because he's the only nice person in the office. I have recently visited other properties in Carmel Valley and I truly believe that it is a FAIRFIELD thing. The amenities aren't first class and beware that the gym closes at 10pm for those hoping to work out at later times. It is generally quiet although the neighbors that we've had all year were extremely noisy. The door by the elevator is constantly broken, probably because people get sick of unlocking it from the garage and I've seen it replaced probably 6 times in the past year. Another odd concern is that I've had two packages delivered to my address here and neither of them arrived, although I can't say whose fault it was. The dampner on the washer/dryer broke so mold grew on the ceiling of the master bedroom and the management refused to clean it. After speaking with them over and over, however, I did get a note written which said that we would not be charged. Also, make sure you figure out which apartment you are renting because if your windows and balconies face Lebon/Nobel then you're going to be constantly bombarded by street/traffic noise until ~1:00am due to the large number of buses and UCSD shuttles passing by. This made our TV nearly impossible to hear at times. Also, since it's by UCSD, you will get a large number of drunk people walking and yelling/singing from 12-2am. Other than that, no major problems. The parking spots are huge compared to other complexes (Trieste, La Cima) so that is a plus.

              First Floor Flooding...

I lived on the first floor of Nobel Court from Sept 2002 to June 2003. The rent was $1335 to start out with, and after my lease agreement ended, they'd raised it by around $20. Aside from the odd hours at which my neighbors listend to their LOUD radios/TV's or whatever they did, the only real problem I have with them would be the TWO times my first floor unit was FLOODED. Basically, water leaked from the faucet, presumably due to some blockage from all the floors above me (the plumbing was such that the top floors dump to the lower floors, etc). This usually happened at night, and both times, I remember the sound of dripping water - REALLY REALLY close by, waking me up. But I was not able to stop the flood before significant damage occurred. So, I called for maintanence, and they handled it within 24 hours. The flood got onto my carpeting both times, but it took them a few days to change that. They also charged me electricity for the humidifier, and they took a bit out of my security deposit to charge for the flooding maintanence fees. The other problem would be how living one floorboard above the gate of their parking garage was a complete nightmare: when I lived there, their gates were so rusted, so that every single time a car entered/exited, I'd here this 2-minute "screaching sequence." At first, I lost a lot of sleep, but eventually I adapted.

Finally, their fake marbled counters (which they advertised) were just plain gaudy.

                  Office Staff - Unprofessional

I dread having to go into the office for any reason at all, and I avoid doing so if possible. When you bring up issues of concern, their first response is to get defensive and combative. I have tried bringing up issues such as maintenence repairs needed in my apartment through letter writing, because I am so uncomfortable going into the office. They do not even do well with letter writing. They do not read the letters, and if they do, they did not think enough of it to comply with any of the specific requests. When you call to follow up on a letter that was sent, they get flustered, defensive and defer responsibility to anyone but themselves. There is no accountability in the office and most of them seem like they are not people oriented and would do better at another job. Just one residents opinion. Yes, the best way to know for sure is to take a look for yourself.

I just came across this site as I am leaving this community and searching for a new place to live in San Fransisco. I am really sad to leave Nobel Court, the past 2 years have been pleasent and an overall great experience. I always get service when promised, the staff is above average in responding to my needs are have always been professional and courteous to me.The grounnds look nice and it is very clean.I think the people who write the negative comments are the one´s who are rude and nasty in general, and have probably been idiots for the staff to deal with. I have had a nice stay here and would moveback here should I return to LaJolla in the future!
Nice property, beautiful new apartments, good place to live!

It is so astounding to me the amount of negative comments for a property that is really nice and fun to live at. I have found that the people that don´t like it here are usually the worst tenants that don´t take care of their apartments, don´t pay their rent on time, or at all, and rude to the office staff and wonder why they might get the same "courtesy" in return. Cars get broken into WHEREVER you go...I had a motorcycle stolen recently, but it is not the property´s responsibility to protect our belongings EVEN in gated parking. (That´s what insurance is for). I have lived here over two years. And the gym -- it is nice, NEW equipment. It breaks because residents don´t use it properly! Security is only as good as the residents let it be! Overall, it is a pretty safe community, comparing everything else in the immediate area. Face it, you live in an apartment community--you rent, not own, in San Diego -- one of the most expensive (& beautiful) places in the county and nothing is ever perfect. If you are unhappy BUY A HOUSE and try to control everything that way, or just move out, but don´t blame your apartment management for things they can´t control or things that are your (or other residents´) fault. I have friends in apartment management -- if you don´t think your management is doing a good job, you should try it. It is NOT easy trying to manage and keep all of your residents happy. Nobel Court is a great property. The only reason I am moving out is because I am buying a house.

                              to poor qual 2-15 IDIOT!

Hey DUMBA$$, obviuosly you were too cheap to upgrade to a newer apartment. I´ve lived at Nobel for almost three years now and I think you are a complete idiot! For the people who are considering living at this nice apartment complex, let me fill you in on a few things before you make a decision. 1)Nobel has remodeled not only the hallways, apartment interiors, elevator cars, landscaping, the south pool area complete with gas BBQ grills and cabanas, they have also painted the outside of all 7 buildings on their property. 2)They also went through EVERY apartment and made the dryers vent outside over 2 years ago. So the complaint about the ventilation is unfounded I´m sure. 3)The carpet fuzzes like that because it´s Brand Spanking New!! Would you rather have old carpet? 4)Most apartments in San Diego as a whole do not have baseboards - I´ve lived here my whole life. 5)Again cheapskate, purchase the additional space for $35 a month, if you need a parking space. Most apartments only give you one if you are lucky. Nobel gives one bedrooms (1) and two bedrooms (2) spaces. If you think you could find a cheaper place in UTC with the amenties, courtesy patrol, assigned parking, new interiors, properly ventilated and people in the rental office that truly give a crap for the renters that live at their place, THEN BY ALL MEANS, GO THERE! PLEASE< SPARE THE HAPPY PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE!

                                Above Average

I have lived at 4 other properties over the years, including La Jolla Canyon, Costa Verde, La Jolla Pines, and Pacific Gardens. First of all there is noise, but are there wild parties going on at all hours? No! Its as simple as everyone leaving their windows open and catching some of this great climate. The place is like a library after 8pm. In the two years I´ve been here, I´ve only once seen the noise get out of control! Thats impressive! Its one of the cleanest properties in the area, the interiors are above average. Maintenence staff is fantastic. They are adding a cyber cafe for residents this summer, which would be a bonus. I think the rent is a hundred dollars or so higher than similar properties in the area, but this is one of the only places wehre you truly avoid all of the utc traffic hassles, and can get in and out of the area because of pristine freeway access. The front office staff, regardless of what people have said has allways been phenomenal.. .I think a lot of the complaints are from people who have relocated here from the midwest and assume that for the rent they are paying they should be living in the Ritz Carlton, there are plenty of more expensive properties in the area that will grant you a much worse experience. All things considered this is one of the best places to live in the utc area. Plus this is one of the few places in the area you can invite friends over too, there´s plenty of parking on the streets.

I have lived here for 7 years and I have to say the the reviews I have read on this site are "bunk"! I think the authors are people who have issues with life in general and need to go buy a house so they can have absolute control over every aspect of their lives! This is a very nice place to live, the current staff is the best we have ever had, the place is clean and well kept. Thier is a courtesy patrol on site each night, they are not police and are not going to catch every would be car thief among the many garages we have here. Car theft is at an all time high in UTC right now and all apartments are getting their share of thefts and vandels, check with the police department, this is a n area problem, not Nobel Courts´ alone. Over all this is a great place to live and I would not take the word of some loosers who are moving out anyway and complaining away!

I have lived here for almost 3 years and LOVE my apartment community! The staff is freindly and helpful, especially the Assitiant manager, Leigh, who is always available to help me out! I love the green spaces and the newly remodeled South pool with cabanas! I would recomend the new interiors, they are awesome inside. A great value for your rent dollar!

                                              NOT WORTH THE HASSLES

The place is extremely noisy, dark and yes, the elevators do break often. On top of this, the leasing management have poor communication skills and are in need of professional training. There were many maintenance issues also, averaging once a month. Not reccomended.

                                                Poor quality

Nobel Court may look nice from the outside, but the apartments are very old and poor quality on the inside. The recent remodel was on the exterior and hallways only, or so it appears. The very small washer and dryer ventilate into the bathroom and create mold and a disgusting mess. The cabinet underneath our kitchen sink is absolutely appalling and has been since the first day we moved in, with its mold all over the back wall. It´s also hard to ventilate the apartment when there is so much loud noise from the street. The carpet fuzzes up if rubbed---be prepared to empty out the vacuum bag a couple times per room. No baseboards either! The location is good and maintenance is fairly quick but the leasing managers aren´t friendly. Parking sucks for those w/o an assigned space. Not worth the high rent--could probably find a better quality apartment in the same area for the same price.

                                                  Nice place to live

Great access to the highway is the key to Noble Court. Near many restuarnts and movie thearters. Close to UCSD and PB and 15min to downtown. Parking is good because you are able to park undearneath the building and feel very oisafe walking my dog at nite. Nosey at nite but i think its because the walls are thinn. But hey you live in a complex you need to expect noise. All in all nice place to live. Also has washer and dryer and maintence has come in a timely manner.
