It's borderline ------ but could always be much worse
I've lived at the Masters for almost 2 years now. The first apartment I lived in was a remodeled one and it was pretty awesome. The second one is the one I'm currently in and it is quite dated. The washer and dryer are new but I don't know what's going on with the heater/ac. Last summer there was a day where I sat with on the couch with a fan pointed at me and my dog and a bottle of water to mist us both. Maintenance came out 3 times to no avail. I just started boarding my dog during the week so he didn't have to sit in that heat as I was genuinely concerned, it was about 95 degrees in the apt. Now it's spring time and still pretty cool but our heater just got stuck to on and was up to 80 degrees when I got home from work. I had to turn it off with the breaker bc it was already switched to off. The closet housing the heater burned my hand when I tried to open it. Maintenance will be out tomorrow. They offered to come today but I figured this will be alright. So that's a plus here. There seem to be lots of problems but Maintenance is johnny on the spot about coming out whenever I call, which unfortunately has been 5 times this year and it's only March. As far as safety there's only been one robbery in the apt complex in the almost 2 year span of me living here and they caught the guys immediately after wards. That's alright by me, I lived right off the Broad Ripple strip for a year before this and was mugged at gun point twice. In short, there seem to be a lot of maintenance problems with the older models, so try to get a remodeled one, but if you can't the repair guy is really nice and will come immediately if you ask him too regardless of if it's listed as a maintenance emergency. The rest of the staff is very nice, friendly, and understanding. Safety-wise I think it's about what you'd expect for being so close to Castleton Mall and a few other slightly seedy areas. Occasionally a light burns out as they are known to do but they're changed almost immediately. Hallways are vacuumed and cleaned on Fridays. There are constantly people attending to the decorative foliage. The pool is deserted during the week which is awesome if you hate kids and have weekdays off/work weekends. The gym is small but alright. The tennis court is well kept and I use it as fenced in area to play with my dog at, just make sure he goes potty first.

Do NOT live here if you want a clean apartment
This place is a dump. They slap caulk and paint all over everything to give it that fresh look but it doesn't hide the mold & mildew around the showers. All of the cabinet shelves are barely staying up(we've had 2 fall in less than 2 months. The bathroom exhaust fan was as loud as an airplane, so maintenance came to put a new motor in it and proceeded to put it in backwards nearly causing a fire. The garbage disposal sounded like a passing freight train because of all the paint and caulk dumped down the drain. Maintenance came to "fix" that by removing about half of it and said "that should do it". Needless to say, my neighbors can still hear it every time we turn it on. The previous owner obviously had cats because that's all you can smell every time you walk in the door, not to mention it used most of the porch's wood trim as its personal scratching post. Half of the old metal bi-fold closet doors fall of the hinge when you open them and the sliding glass door is so worn that it has virtually no wheels and just slides against the metal track. Also, the air conditioner doesn't come close to keeping it cool. If it's 90 degrees outside, you can bet it's at least 90 in your apartment. They've been to look at that for us 3 times in less than 2 months and all maintenance ever says is "We added some freon to it for you so that should take care of it." Plus, it's waaaay overpriced. The only good thing I can say is that they replaced the carpet before we moved in, but that's little consolation when the subflooring has been soaked with cat piss. This place is horrible. Do yourself a favor and look for someplace, anyplace else to live. Have a good day.

Worst Experience of My Life
Well, let's make a super long story short. While I lived at the masters for 6 months, I had my car ripped apart and robbed, almost stolen, $2,000.00 stereo system that I never turned up so nobody knew I had it, GONE. 3 apts. were also kicked in and robbed in that time period, as well as our $2,400.00 that it cost to get out of lease when my car was robbed. Security lights were broke around the complex and never fixed, as well as the on patrol officer told me they didnt have the time frame covered that my car was robbed during. First night I was there our neighbors pounded on our ceiling with a broom and we werent even being loud, just putting clothes up. I told the office and one of the ladies said those tenants are crazy, just ignore them. Microwave, stove, and washer dryer all appeared to be from the late 1800's and their office staff kicked me out of their office permanently after MY CAR was robbed, because they felt intimidated lol I didnt raise my voice once, just asked them what they planned on doing for a solution. They have no solutions, and I wouldn't recommend bin ladin to move there if he was still alive. I'd rather live in a cardboard box. Please take heed to this review, it is all 100% the truth.

Amazing Place to Live
I researched apartments for weeks and then visited over a dozen. The Masters was by far the best place I visited. I have now lived here for about a month and could not be happier. The view of the lake keeps me on my screened patio most of the time enjoying the serene atmosphere. The office staff is very friendly and helpful and Holly, the Manager, truly went out of her way to find me the perfect apartment and it is absolutely amazing. Maintenance is wonderful and goes out of their way to help even with such things as hanging a ceiling fan or hanging a heavy mirror that I could not do by myself. My drains in the master bathroom were running slow and he was here to next day to take care of it, they truly strive to respond within 24 hours which is exceptional. Parking is excellent and I have never had a problem parking right in front of my building. If you are looking for a great place to live in the city but with a country atmosphere minutes from everything you could possibly want to shop for The Masters is perfect. I would give The Masters, Holly, maintenance, atmosphere, convenience, location, view, quality of the apartment all FIVE stars!!!

Couldnt Ask for More
I just moved here from MD a month ago and have been living at The Masters since. I must say this place is AWESOME compared to the other places I looked at. Holly the property manager is The Most Awesome person in the entire state of Indiana that I've met so far. She has been nothing but helpful and has even been helpful with alot of indecisions on from my roomates. Its been a back and fourth battle with them haha but she has always been there to help! Now about the property I have had no issues what so ever. Also just to reply to the review where you could hear your neighbors.. I completely disagree unless youre in the hallway but who really stays in the hallway? Yesterday I went out to my car and once I was in the hallway I heard some people in one of the units Talking loudly and could hear them for the most part pretty well, But once I came back into my apartment I couldnt hear anything. That to me is how it should be. I never hear people to the right of me or above me. (If peopole walk loudly above you, you will hear that but that should be expected) Its a quiet development with really friendly people. The maintenance staff is super friendly, The mailman is even a really good guy. I would reccomend this Development to anyone looking for a reasonable priced place in a safe area, Its also a perfect central location to anything you could want. We have 82nd st on one side with Castleton Square and we have 96th st on the other side which has the Grocery, More restaurants, and Home Depot. Also is easy access to 69 and 465. I couldnt ask for more. With Holly as property manager there is no where else Id rather be.

Not bad, but needs some work
I'm only here with a friend for a short time but I have growing concerns. Most of the problem is the noise, not really noise that's outside but within the apartments. I can hear everything in the apartments surrounding me. The people upstairs sound like they have parties sometimes with all the noise happening. The people next to me can be vaccuming and it sounds like they are vaccuming my apartment! These new people moved in the front apartment in my building and for 2 straight weeks they were in and out yelling at eachother. It was ridiculous but they have moved out, within a month, so I'm not sure what happened. The old neighbors above me would smoke and then drop the cigarettes on the deck which they would then fall down and get on out porch. We reported this and it took the second time to finally get it corrected. The new neighbors just run around and listen to music a lot, which is less annoying than the old neighbors who would play techno music nonstop. It sounded like there was a club going on everyday. Other than the noise it isn't too bad. The grounds are pretty well kept, just little things are seen here and there. There is always trash in the pond they have behind my apartment. There's plenty of closet space and I like the storage because it's pretty big. The patios have screens so it helps with the security factor but the my door knob is extremely wobbly. I'm not sure if it's every door or just mine but it seems like with the right jiggle it can be opened easily, with it being locked. The staff seems nice but I haven't had too much interaction with them. Maintenance is pretty quick, we had a leak from upstairs and they fixed it within a few days. I pretty much like the way the apartment is setup, separates areas pretty nicely and the rooms are decently sized. The master bed also has a really nice walk-in closet. There's also a lot of bugs. The walkway leading to the apartments is filled with various spiders and creepy-crawlies. The apartment has a spider here and there often enough. Also I've seen water-bug type insects in the apartment.

Great Place
I just moved to the Master's a few months ago and all I can say is that I'm glad I chose this place to call home. I never have to worry about any of my maintenance issues because they are always there with in minutes of me calling. The office staff is super friendly and helpful. I love the fact that they already have a washer and dryer in the apartment and the only bill I have to pay besides rent is electric.

Not Great, Not Awful
I have lived at the masters for awhile and mostly like it. The staff is very friendly and for the most part helpful. Recently there have been some shady people wandering around the grounds at night and the security officer is nowhere in sight. There are less break ins than in the past which is a good thing. The only problem I have is all the dog poo. It is everywhere. Nobody picks up after their dogs and it smells like a toilet. The staff is more concerned about people feeding the geese then dealing with dog poo.

Maybe it is better but I doubt it
I lived at the Masters for over a year in 2009. I had many of the same problems as the other people who wrote reviews. I thought it was going to be a great place at first. The staff seemed courteous and friendly. It seemed really dog friendly and like a safe area. Now I do realize that robberies happen everywhere but it did seem to be a common occurence when I lived there. I believe that is why the courtesy officers were hired and the neighborhood watch program attempted. It really didn't seem like it should be a bad area but for some reason there were a lot of break ins and attempted break ins. There were also a lot of solicitors and when I called and complained about this little was done. I even called and had one of the courtesy officers come out when one came to my apt. They did little more then talk to them adn they did not even send them off the property. I was single at the time that I lived there and I have to say after hearing of all the break ins and the solicitor problem I just did not feel safe! At least it does seem they are upgrading as when I lived there my appliances were so out of date. The stackable washer/dryer was also a total joke. Took forever to dry and my electric bill was always high.I would just make sure you get an updated apt. However, the last problem I had was on move out. I won't go into it as it has already been said. They will kill you on the carpet replacement bill if you have a dog. I think that is why they are so dog friendly. Just don't buy into the refundable pet deposit. You will never see it. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place renovated or not!

so far, so good
I recently just graduated from school and moved to Indianapolis for a job. I had looked at apartments all over the northeast side for weeks, and the Master's really is the way to go. I did my research and asked questions, look at police websites, they are one of the safest complexes (my number one concern). I have been living at the Master's for about a month and really don't have any complaints. The renovated apartments are really the way to go, totally worth the extra money - and the lake view, it's very peaceful, even though it's 25 extra a money, that's less than a buck a day, def worth it. Make sure you get the side of the building you prefer - if you're not a morning person don't move into a unit where the sun shines in at 6 a.m., the blinds are standard, so they don't do much. The office staff is very friendly and service oriented. During my walk-through there were some problems that were supposed to be addressed before move-in and only about half of them were taken care of, the ones that weren't I filled out a maintence request for and they were taken care of within the first week I moved in - nothing to major. A very nice unexpected surprise at move-in was they had necessities waiting in the kicthen - a roll of paper towel, garbage bag, roll of tolient paper, candy, bag of chips, local coupons, and bottled water in the fridge - a great touch of service that were all needed and put to use! All of the neighbors in my building are nice, no noise complaints, only the occasional dogs barking when exiting and entering the building. The buildings were built in the mid-80's so the walls are pretty thick / sound proof, haven't heard anything through them. Haven't been to the pool yet, so I can't really comment on that, and the weather is been too hot to enjoy the tennis courts / basketball courts, but they look good from a distance. The one bad thing is the gym...or lack there of...no weights or lifting machines, only one bike, one treadmill, and one eliptical - no tvs or music in them either, machines are old...lifetime fitness is close by but pretty expensive - lifestyle and la fitness are about 2 miles up the road, but a quick drive...just be willing to fork over money for a gym membership. They say they are going to re-do the entire clubhouse hopefully within the next year, but that's all I've heard. Screened in porch and storage unit is great - standard on all units, along with washer and dryers. The property management seems to have a good policy, washers and dryers are replaced if they are older than 7 years, kicthen applices are a little longer, but my unit had a brand new stove in it. Had some minor flooding problems with the dishwasher (is def older), but was fixed the same day I reported it. Some other perks...they have a free personal trainer that is her a few days a week, you can pay rent online, if you pay before the 1st of the month you are entered for a drawing to get $100 of your rent the next month, they have a good referral promotion, parking isn't bad at all - very safe and well lit, garbage is collected Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so they are never over flowing and don't look bad, grounds are well maintained, I could go on... If I am as happy as I am here for the first month, I will definetly be re-signing at this time again next year! I highly recommend the Master's!

Couldn't be happier!!!
Some people just can't be pleased, but we have lived here for 6 years and love it. The office staff was friendly and helpful from the get go and that was a requirement for me due to our previous apartment staff. We've really gotten to know our courtesy officers and maintence people and at anytime we need anything they always go above and beyond. We love the improvements and can't wait to move into our new renovated apartment in The Masters! As far as the crime some people have mentioned.....it happens no matter where you live. The difference is we actually have sheriffs that care and are out all the time and if you take the precautions to protect your apartment and the time to get to know them you won't have any problems! I wouldn't have stayed this long or about to sign another 22 months lease if it wasn't a great place to live.

Run away as fast as possible!!!!!!!!
Where do I start about all the problems??? The old and outdated appliances that I had to call maintenance numerous times to fix, the numerous break ins including my apartment and my neighbors, the office staff inability to do anything without being told several times, the thin walls so that you can hear your neighbors conversations and hearing them coming/going. A month after I moved into my new home I received a letter stating I owed 700$ for new carpet that the office claims my dog ruined. I went to look at said ruined carpet and noticed the stains were where I had my tv and couch. I don't believe my 20 lb pug could move the tv and couch and pee under there. After reading numerous reviews on this site I truly believe this is a con the masters runs to get extra money upon residents moving out, especially since the masters has such a high turn over rate and the fact there are so many vacant apartments. One bright spot, there is plenty of parking since there are so few residents that live there. Also I am convinced its the "wonderful" office staff writing the positive reviews. IS that you Ashley?

If you own a pet, do not move here.
After college, I moved to the Master s Apartments for my first real job and could not wait to move out of there after several months of bad experiences. The first one was seeing my apartment for the first time, as it was nothing like the one I had been shown before deciding on this apartment. Granted, this is my own fault for not asking to see the actual apartment, life lesson learned, but it was totally out-dated compared to the fancy renovated apartment I was shown. So yes, the oven, dishwasher, fridge, washing machine, dryer, water heater, air conditioner, furnace, and most of the fixtures are old, not new like in the model or in advertisements, and they do not come with a microwave. This should have been my first warning, the rest of them are following. On move in day, we did an initial walk-thru with the office manager. We noticed several light bulbs were out and the manager asked us if we wouldn t mind taking care of it, so the first expense was light bulbs so we could see at night. We were also informed that the washing machine was brand new, and I was thrilled. To my dismay, the washing machine was not new, as the filters were completely coated in filth and there was a strange smell later discovered. On a side note, the washing machine and dryer are very small, inefficient, and make terrible loud noises. The next warning is in the electrical wiring of the apartments, even the maintenance men complain about it. After moving in, I discovered that several outlets did not work; these included the ones in both bathrooms and on the patio. When these were later replaced, the maintenance man who is very rude asked me what I had kept plugged into the outlets and didn t believe me when I said that nothing had been plugged in, they had never worked. The wiring also affected vacuuming, as there were only two outlets in the entire apartment that you could plug a vacuum in without having to switch the circuit breakers. This was a problem because the vacuum doesn t reach all corners of the apartment. Venturing into the kitchen, one will find that not all things work. For example, the one of the large burners on the stove top worked about a tenth of the time, and the alarm clock and timer did not work (and are also not digital, hence the old age). Once my husband tried to clean the oven and gently moved the door latch and it stuck... later maintenance accused me of intentionally trying to break it to get a new oven and then went to brag about how he made sure he had a brand new oven when he moved in because these are so old. He also mentioned that the oven had been worked on many times before, and as you can guess, we never got a new oven. Something else that did not work in the kitchen was the dishwasher. I told them the dishwasher did not work and the maintenance man said something on the lines of the disposal line being clogged, which apparently had been clogged before I even moved into the apartment. After this, the dishwasher still did not work; one could literally take clean dishes, wash them in the dishwasher, and have them come out filthy. The dishwasher was replaced with the exact same model, and it also did not work. When I informed them that it also did not work, they would not fix it because they said they knew that it worked, so plan on doing your dishes by hand. Also, you cannot adjust the temperature in the old fridges, which is awesome because everything on the top shelf of the fridge freezes. The kitchen cabinets were so warped when I moved in that some cabinets could only be used for Tupperware out of fear of them collapsing. There was also a cabinet that is completely open on the inside to the side of the stove, which translates to anything that spills over goes directly into that cabinet. Furthermore in the out-dated kitchen, there is only one drawer that is capable of fitting a silverware organizer in, but to your excitement it can only be opened after you open the oven door! The master bathroom had several issues. One is the shower temperature, the old fixture allows for the water to either be scalding hot or cold, there is no possibility of having a temperature in between, which is very uncomfortable. In addition, the tiles on the wall were not completely caulked, so they looked terrible. The final bathroom problem, which pertains to both bathrooms, was that neither of the sink drains drained properly, they just filled up and slowly drained over time. We remedied this by buying a sink snake and cleaned the stuffed drains ourselves. Next, let's talk about our upstairs neighbors... a family of about 10 lived above us in a two bedroom apartment and they were the loudest people you could ever possibly imagine. The parents would leave the kids and go out at night and let the kids do whatever they pleased, which included fighting with weapons and stomping on the ceilings for long periods of time so we couldn't even hear our own tv. As far as we know based on talking to the neighbors, everyone in the building made noise complaints about them, and the office also confirmed that there had been several complaints. The courtesy officer never took our complaints seriously, even when they threatened our lives, which is when we just started calling the police. According to the lease, you are evicted after three, we called the police on them three times and they still weren t evicted. We made several noise complaints, and also complained about their dog that they never took outside. The dog used the outside patio to do its business and urinated on everything we own, including our plants and on me, it wasn t taken care of until the dog moved out. Be prepared to not be taken seriously and to have the rules bent for other people. And don't be fooled by the discount movie tickets, as they cost you $6.00 and the movies cost $5.50 at the cinema. My final advice, take pictures or videos when you move in and when you leave, another life lesson learned. We are now being charged over $700 for a 3 pound dog as they state, "carpet needs replaced due from pet damage and need to deal floor from pet urine." First of all, this doesn t even make sense and how can a 3 pound toy dog that is walked at least twice a day, singlehandedly destroy over 1,100 square feet of carpet? They showed pictures of huge stains underneath where the entertainment stand and computer desk were the entire time we lived there. I m pretty sure they either never change the carpet padding or they use photos of another apartment to prove you ruined it. There is no way my 3lb dog moves furniture and makes stains that are larger than he is. It s amazing they didn t have any photos of stains anywhere that was not permanently covered by furniture. Enjoy having your money stolen, it is a rip off. I could go on, but I won t PLEASE don't move here, there are many apartments in the area for the same price or cheaper that offer more open floor plans, full size washer and dryers, washing machines that work and are newer, ovens not from the 60's, etc... I couldn't love the new apartment anymore!

Great Place! Great Location!
I just moved here from St. Louis for my job. Not knowing much about Indy I went searching through the internet and came across several apartments that I made appts. with. By far The Masters staff was so nice and helpful to me. I never thought I'd feel so welcomed. I have been here for 3 months now and love my apartment and the location! I can't complain! Great job Masters! Mike

Not sure what is going on
We have lived at the Masters for 15 yrs. We have never been the victim of any kind of crime. We have always felt safe here. There have been times when I would not have had a place to park if I had not had a carport. We have always had our maintenence problems addressed the same day. I think the people who have written negative reviews are trying to blame someone else for their problems. We have had very few problems with neighbors, and the ones we have had were addressed promptly by management. The recent upgrades to the streets, sidewalks, carports, landscaping, etc are welcome. That being said, we have begun to feel a bit uneasy lately. Can't put my finger on it but something just doesn't feel right. We are moving soon because we have built a condo. We would have moved anyway because of the uneasy feeling. Overall we have been quite satisfied with our years at The Masters.

Kudos
I have lived at the Master's for three years and I must say, I'm probably one of their biggest fans. I appreciate the location, my apartment is adorable and the screened in balcony just extends my living space. Recently the landscaping was upgraded and additional waste stations added to the complex for the dog owners. The lighting in the carport is a much welcomed safety feature when you arrive home late in the evening. I have NEVER had an issue the management did not address. Keep up the good work Holly and your crew..some of us think you're the best!

Don't move here!!!!!!
Sneaky little staff writting reviews about how wonderful this place is. Nothing wonderful about it. I lived there for about a year. I dealt with the ineffective staff who couldn't keep track of anything. It's no wonder no one is renting there. A $400 referral fee is being offered now.Hmmmmm, wonder why that is. Perhaps word has gotten around about their ever rising crime rate. Maybe it's the security staff that is there because of all the break in's, solicitors, and suspicious people. Of course that is when the security staff actually responds. As for them being dog friendly, oh yes they love dogs and they love the ridiculous carpet replacement fees they can charge when you move out. You can't prove that stain was on the carpet pad before your dog adn they know that. Read all the reviews on here already about dogs who apparently can move furniture and take a large pees without their owners ever knowing it. Then when you ask whatever would bring them to lift up the carpet in the 1st place prepare to be insulted. Apparently, you live in an apt. that smells like pee. What, you didn't smell it! Why I should even be suprised that the staff are now writting reviews I don't know. I mean they must be very desperate to rent all those empty units. It seems like people are catching on to what a poorly run place this is. The only honest thing is that the maintenance staff are timely and polite. They should really look for better jobs.Of course if you are brave enough to rent there I wish you the best. Just please write back when you are ready for your I told you so. This place is a joke. There are a lot of nice apts. in the area. Check them out. Trust me you'll be glad you did.

I LOVE my apartment
I moved into one of the remodeled apartments here and I love it. I expected it to be much more expensive for all new! The screened in patios are so nice and the complex looks nice - the maintenance & management here are really good - you never see trash on the ground and there are dog stations with bags for walking my dog - really nice! I moved out of 3 different apartments because I couldn't get maintenance problems fixed at all some times and taking forever at other times. One thing that attracted me to the masters is they have a 24 hour maintenance guarantee and so far I am very impressed. I read some of the reviews and just want to say that I feel very safe here as a single female - there are break-ins everywhere and if you believe otherewise - you are wrong

Be warned
I lived in the Masters apartment for 4 years. It was nice when I first moved in. The staff seemed really friendly and it seemed like a very dog friendly atmosphere. However, by the time I moved out it was really becoming a crap hole. The staff are friendly enough but pretty useless. I moved out because it seemed like their were cars coming in and out at all hours of the night. I really think a couple of my neighbors were selling drugs. There are always people knocking on the door trying to sell crap despite signs saying they were not allowed. I was starting to get scared because of the stories about robberies and as a single female that isn't what you want to hear. I just think this was a nice place that due to ineffective managment and an increasingly bad area of apts. around it is going downhill. There are so many empty units. I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Maybe if the management were to change.

Overall Good
I have lived there 7 years and I have always been impressed with the maintenance crew. It is within the 24 hour time frame and they have always fixed and improved when needed. I've never had a problem with them fixing any of my appliances or communicating the issues with them to me. Keep up the great work!!!

no complaints
I've lived here for five years now. The office and maintenance staff have always been great at solving any issues that I've had. There have been very few issues I might add. Security is great, they patrol the grounds on a regular basis. I've NEVER had an issue with my vehicle. I'd recommend The Master's to anyone!

So Far So Good!
I just moved in about 3 months ago. I absolutley love my apartment! The staff has been nothing but great with me. I had some curtain rods that I couldn't put up so I asked them if anyone could assist me. The Maintenance Guy came right over to help me. I was thinking it would be a week before they could help me out....I was wrong! My cat loves the screened in patio and the washer and dryer in the unit is a PLUS! I refered one of my closest friends to move here...she is moving in thi June in a 2 Bedroom. Mandy contacted me to let me know once she moves in they would send me a $400 check. NICE!!!!

Run!!!!!
This place is a total dump! I called maintenance to look at the microwave (it was smoking profusely) and the maintenance told me there was nothing they could do about it until after I moved out (that was going to be in 3 months). The sliding door popped off of the track everytime I opened it.
