They will tow your car with NO notice or sympathy

I moved into the masters about 4 months ago and have really liked it up until now. This past Wednesday (my only day off mind you) I slept in and got up around 11 to go for a full day of running errands and dinner with the parents. When I got outside a tow truck was blocking my way. I came to find out that my plates were expired and the car was going to be towed. I asked for a police report but he told me that no police had been involved. The property mangement had called to have my car towed, knowing full well (through documentation I filled out before I signed my lease) that that was my car and belonged in front my apartment. They didnt even call me to say, "Hey, your tags are expired and we will tow your car next week" There is tons of parking at the Masters and I drive my car everyday so I see no need why they would do this. When I called the leasing office expecting to hear that they made a mistake the girl laughed at me and told me I should be more responsible. Since I had to pay 360 bucks to get my car back I will not be able to pay rent on time. They said they will not waive the late fees or work with me in any way. The worst experience I have ever had in customer service. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!!!

    Absolutely awful

I moved into the Masters several weeks ago. My front door would not shut all the way, my dishwasher flooded all over the kitchen, my clothes dryer did not work, and I have a neighbor who likes to play the bass guitar and rattle my floors. I can't wait to move out.

      Wow, what a dump

It's funny because I was so mad when I moved out last week that I planned to do everything I could to get their rating down on here. Turns out I don't need to do that at all. I mean I could go on and on about the robberies, solicitors, inept staff, and the false pet charges but it would seem others have already done it. I only wish there had been more reviews like this when I moved in a year ago. I can only hope now that other's will be smart enough to look at these reviews prior to even considering moving in there. Please beware! The staff will come off as nice and helpful but once you sign the lease kiss that goodbye. The security team that seems like an added bonus will never respond in a timely matter. I found it was better to call the real police. Oh yes, the security are sheriffs and they live on the property but they are a joke!!!! When I moved out the staff were very polite right up until the $800 dollar carpet replacement bill. Apparently, like many others on here my dog can move furniture and pee in spots that I can neither detect or smell. Although apparently their crack managment team with their super smelling powers can detect. I mean of course it had to smell like pee or they would not have pulled the carpet up....right? Hmmm, I'll end by simply saying DON'T MOVE HERE!

        Mold Problem!

This place is awful! About a month after living here I became very ill. I thought I had a cold or the flu. After months of going to different doctors, I was asked about where I live (Is there a problem with mold). I told the doctor that upon moving in I had found mold and mildew in the bathrooms and kitchen. Well, it turns out that the mold in the apartment was the culprit of my illness. A couple of months after moving out, I started to feel much better. Now, I am symptom free!

If you have pets, DON'T LIVE HERE!!!!!! RUN!!!!!!

This is probably the worst place I have lived (I have lived in a lot of apartments). Oh how I hate this place, let me count the ways... 1.) If you have pets don't live here! A month after moving out, I received a letter in the mail saying that I had to pay to replace the carpet because of pet stains. They garnished all of my security deposit and charged an additional $500. My dog has been potty trained for several years. The places they said had urine stains were under my couch, dresser and tv stand. Unless my dog moves my furniture there is no way he peed in those areas. I personally think they wanted to replace carpet in vacant apartments but did not want to have to pay for it. I noticed several other reviews that mention this happening to them. 2.) It was dirty when I moved in...I found pubic hair in both of the showers...GROSS! 3.) The office staff is useless and rude. I called multiple times because of the smell of pot smoke in my apartment from our neighbors next door. The girl in the office just laughed! 4.) It is not safe and security is a joke! I called security after a gentleman was trying to sell me something and when I told him I was not interested, he freaked out. I was not the only one who called about this man but yet security did nothing, even though there are no solciting signs. The entry doors into the apartments are literally falling off the frames. Their idea of a window lock is small wooden dow rod that could easily snap in half. 5.) It feels like Antartica inside the apartment in the winter. The windows are horrible!!! They are coming off the track and the seals have rotted. My furnace ran all of the time but it was still freezing inside. I think there are a number of nights I could see my breath! 6.) In the winter, be prepared to ice skate or ski through the parking lot because they do not keep anything cleared off!!! I lost track of how many times I fell in the parking lot. 7.) Parking SUCKS!!! There was never anywhere to park. I often had to park up at the leasing office visitor parking and walk to my apartment. 8.) The diswasher is pointless. I think the dishwasher that was in my place was probably one of the first dishwashers invented! It actually makes your dishes come out dirtier than they were when they went in. So if you move in, get used to handwashing all of your dishes. 9.) Noise is a major issue. I could hear my neighbors every move. I didn't feel like I had much privacy! 10.) Maintenance only does bandaid fixes. My water heater was going bad and several times I was scalded because of this. I called maintenance many times about this and instead of replacing the water heater they would do a temporary fix. About a month would go by and again I would get scalded.

            Biggest Mistake

Please be warned if you have a pet DO NOT MOVE HERE! I lived there for 2 1/2 yrs. While it was never the best place to live from day one ( problems with management, security, & solicitors)the real kicker was when we moved out. I have a small dog who has been potty trained for years. I know he did not pee in that crap hole. I have lived at several other apts. and never had a problem. Yet when I moved they claimed my apt. smelled like pee and that they had to replace the carpet. When I asked to see the so called stains they said they were not visible to the eye on the carpet side but showed me the pad with stains. Stains which could have been there for years. One of the stains was even under my tv stain which I thought was really interesting. Yet it was my word against theres & they were not reasonable at all. Not that I should be suprised as they were always incompetent and rude. Please whatever you do learn from my mistake and avoid this craphole!

              A HUGE MISTAKE!!!!

Upon moving into our apartment, I had to spend two days cleaning the place because it was disgusting! There was mold and mildew in both of the bathrooms(toilets, sinks, and showers) and the fridge. We had been told they had painted before we moved in...I find that one hard to believe!!! The walls were a filthy yellow...they were supposed to be white!!! In the winter, have fun trying to get around in the parking lot and on the sidewalk. They do not do a very good job of keeping everything clear of snow. Also invest in some plastic for the windows if you live here because they still have the original windows, which are coming off the track and have 1/4 of an inch gaps. Our apartment was so cold even with two layers of plastic and heavy curtains on the windows, I swear you could see your breath!!! Be prepared to have your door knocked on several times a day because even though they have a no soliciting sign, they do nothing to stop the people from bothering tenants. I had one man knock on my door and when I told him that I was not interested he became very angry and called me a number of things. When I called the leasing office and security hotline, they did nothing. They actually told me, "Well, don't answer your door the next time someone knocks."The security is a joke also as well as the office staff. I did not feel safe living there. Oh, and if you have a dog be prepared to pay for new carpet even if your pet did nothing. They places my dog supposedly had an accident, I know for a fact was not possible unless he moved my couch, bookcase, and dresser. If you have a dog, I highly recommend either not living here or not telling them you have a pet. This place is SHADY!!!!

Not a safe place to live!!!

I lived there for one year and I was so happy to move. They have a number for security for people to call if they witness crime or to report solicitors. They tell you don't call 911, to instead call their security number. I saw someone break a window, trying to rob someones apartment. I called their security number to report it. It took security a half hour to even call me back and then a total of one hour to even show up. I had called security a number of times to report the numerous solicitors there and it did no good. Even though they have signs stating "no solicitors" expect to see a couple per week. I had my apartment broken into. The office didn't seem to really care, just a "we'll send security there." I suspect it was the solicitors. Parking is a nightmare. Good luck finding a spot after 6pm. The cabinets in the kitchen are small. The washers/dryers are outdated and very small. What should take five loads takes ten loads. Had them out numerous times to look at my dryer as it took two hours to dry one medium sized load. They wouldn't replace it, just said its clogged with lots of lint. Save yourself a headache and look elsewhere!!!!!!

Don't move here if you have pets

This was a horrible place to live from day one. The solicitors were constant & the security useless. The staff is polite until you move in then they are rude and not very good at their job. We moved out and we're told our apartment smelled of urine and the carpet had to be replaced. Despite the fact that it is not new carpet and the stains are on the back side, a side I did not see when I moved in. However, it's my word against those liars so I'll have to pay the extra $450 plus my deposit. One of the stains was even behind my couch. I really don't think my dog can move the couch & pee there. I have never been so glad to move in all my life. Please don't make the same mistake.

                    Horrible Managment and laughable security

I moved into the mistake called The Master Oct. of 08. I have never regretted more that decision. From day one I had problems with managment when we received calls regarding our renter's insurance that we had already given them a copy of. The problems continued when IPL was not switched over from them to me. I was assured upon moving in that this would be taken care of but it was not. I called and took care of it after multiple request to various staff failed to get it taken care of. IPL transferred the amount to me and I promptly paid it off. I was also told by IPL that they informed the Masters of this. However, I then received for the next 3 mos. bills asking for payment of this amount. Despite continously referring them to IPL to get it resolved. Besides that we were robbed only 2 os. in to our residency there and the staff and so called security did little more then file a police report. We we're told it was possibly the solictors we had the day before. From then on we were prompt to call security on all of our numerous solicitors. Usually the security would not even respond but when they did they did little more then talk to them. Despite signs indicating no soliciting on the property. Which frankly is a joke as I had more solicitors in the 7 mos. I lived there then all my years of aparment living. We even witnessed another residents apt. being broken into. Luckily my finace called the police as the apartment security did not even bother to call back for a half hour and still did not respond to the location for another half hour. I would not recommend the Masters to my worst enemy. This was hands down the worst aparment complex I have ever lived in and I have lived in quite a few. Do not make the mistake of moving here!!!!!!!!!!

                      Run Forest Run

After living here for a little over a year, My Wife and I have come to the conclusion that it is time to move on. After the wonderful exp. of raccoons living in the soffets above my head for a night, (they claim that it happens, and its normal) and the mold problem that has kept me sick since January and the old dishwasher that dirties the dishes more than when you put them in, and the itsy bitsy cabinets that hold 3 pans and 2 forks are annoyingly small. The parking has gotten terible... There is this one person that pays for a car port but if there is a spot open not under it she will use that one so she can save 15 steps. (believe me she can use the excercise if you know what I mean.) How do I know about that? She told me, and my neighbor. I love waking up to Bob and tom in the morning, but my neighbor thinks it is his job to wake us all up with the ALARM WITH B&T SO LOUD THAT I want to take a sledge hammer and beat the door in to turn it off. THe odor outside n the main upstairs hallway is one of the most foul smelling things that I have ever smelled, and it changes daily... I just thought that you should know a little bit more than we knew when we moved in, and oh yeah, Hollie was great, and crystal is still a moron.

I have lived at The Masters for about 2 years. So far it has been great. Our apartment is quiet and we can barely hear our neighbors (every now and again you'll hear a dog bark) even though all the units are rented out. The parking can seem limited but I've never had to walk more than 2 minutes to my building and usually can find a spot right in front of it. When we moved in we had updated appliances including a new washer/dryer and new lighting fixtures. For new tenants moving in they now are also putting in new cabinets which is probably the only compliant I can find with what we have now (they are definitely outdated). I love the area and they are reasonably priced for the north side. I haven't moved out so I can't attest to what that is like but I do think they are being unfairly slammed. I haven't interacted a ton with the office staff but every time I do they are pleasant and helpful. The maintence is also great any time I've needed anything they have been there the same day. One time our air conditioner broke in the middle of the night during the summer and the emergency repair guy actually came then to fix it. I would definitely recommend the Masters to others and I think it's important to remember that a lot of people who are motivated to write reviews had really BAD experiences. People who had no issues aren't super likely to write a review that it was "good".

I moved out of the Masters Apartments a couple of month ago. My apartment along with three others were broken into in the middle of the day. They did not even phone me to let me know after the cops had been there to inspect my place. They did nothing more to make the apartment any safer and expected me to still live there. The robbers kicked right through my front door. When I asked about them letting me out of my lease becuase I did not feel safe I was told I would have to pay three months rent. I lived there for 2 years and expected they may be understanding. I was living alone and had 3 guys in my apartment going through everything and taking lots... The staff was not helpful and they acted like this was an everyday occurence there. Things were going downhill quickly there. I would not move back there for anything..

                            office staff are awful!!!!!

I've never seen such terrible work ethic from an office staff! I had a neighbor who's dog would urinate on the second balcony. It would drip onto my furniture and hanging plants, and once ON MY HEAD! I complained three times, and was told, "well, the dog is old." My patio furniture was ruined, my plant died, and my clothes ruined, but they just left it alone. I had to replace carpet in my one bedroom because of a "pet stain" in the corner. They would not let me be present for inspection and I had to take their word that the pictures they showed were from my apartment. I was told by the property manager (at that time) that I would not have to pay for the carpet. THen I was sent a bill 4 months later! When I spoke to the (once again) all new staff, they said "I'm sorry, but I wasn't employed at that time, so I can't help you." Upon ending our lease, I expressed my frustrations with a staff member, and she said (once again) "I wasn't employed here at that time, so I cannot address this problem with you." No one ever works there long enough to address any problems. I was sick of it. Just like most other reviews, it started out great, but it was a downward spiral the whole time I lived here. If I had the time, I would go door to door and warn new residents!

                              Has definitely gone downhill

I lived at The Masters for almost 2 years. At first, it was a good place to live as far as apartments go. The office staff was friendly and helpful (except 1 office girl who was always rude...I'm sure most people know who I'm talking about). Holly was great! And then the new leasing company took over. The office staff all changed and of course they kept the 1 office girl who was rude. The grounds were never picked up after anymore. The quality of residents went way downhill. The same-day maintenance guarantee is no longer true. I put in a maintenance request because my ceiling had water damage. They came one time and didn't really do much. They came 2 other times and didn't even call first. My boyfriend came home one day and the maintenance guy was in our apartment. One of the times they came, they left a note on a piece of paper towel. Also, I know most people including myself judge apartment complexes by the vehicles in the parking lot. I definitely wouldn't rent there now because of this. There are many rusted, wrecked vehicles now. This complex is one of the most expensive on the north side of Indianapolis but is not worth it anymore. The place overall went way downhill after the new leasing company took over.

                                Agreed...Do NOT Live Here!

I've lived at the Masters for nearly two years now. Living here started out very well, but everything seems to have gone downhill in the last year or so. I completely agree with everything the reviewer from 12/29/07 said. We've had more break-ins than I can count in the last year, and management doesn't seem to be doing anything about it! A fellow resident told me she went for a walk, and her tv was gone when returned 15 minutes later. The staff is extremely rude and confrontational, and parking has become a huge problem. You're expected to walk halfway across the apartment complex if there isn't a spot on your street. Given all the break-ins we've had, it certainly doesn't sound like something I'm interested in doing. I went to the management office today to discuss a problem I've had, and the manager laughed at me and made fun of me! There is absolutely no reason to live here given all the other nice places in the area.

I enjoyed dealing with her through the entire process, and she made the process smooth and easy. A few months into my lease Holly took a position in corporate so now I am stuck with Crystal, ugh. If you are looking at moving here, DO NOT deal with her. She is an exception to the rule of The Master's. Everything and everyone else here is incredibly nice. The apartments are wonderful, and at a decent price. Maintenance takes care of things promptly and correctly. This is definitley a place to check out! Just hoping they have a one bedroom ready for me when my lease on this two bedroom is up!

This apartment complex was the biggest waste of time and money. The maintenence people were friendly but they had to come back mutiple times to fix problems. We had to move because we have an American Staffordshire Terrior and they tried to say the breed is a show pit bull. Amstaff was one of the breeds used to create a pit bull, but its definately not same. We lived there for three months when we moved out. Now they are trying to put charges on to replace the carpet due to pet damage. There was absolutely no pet damage to the carpet. There were stains on the carpet when we moved in and we have the documantation to prove that. The people who work in the office are rude and argumentative. Parking is horrible. The washer and dryer are so small we had to do seven or eight loads on laundry day. We had a really bad experience living in this complex and I would not recomend it to anyone.

                                      About to move in...

I have to say that I already recommend this place because I have an aunt, grandma, and boyfriend who live there. I'm also about to live there. I spend extended periods there already, and I have to say that they don't have complaints, and I can't say that I will either. I love that you can pay rent online which saves so much time rather than running a check to the office. My loved ones LOVE it there. It's close to all the major Castleton areas of interest and kinda out of the way of traffic. Compared to where I'm moving FROM, it's a dream come true. I read some of the reviews that talk about security. Well, it's Indianapolis, not SmallTown USA, so what do you expect? Crime happens, it's not area specific. And the washer/dryers? It's an apartment! What do you expect? Apartments are not houses so of course there are space restrictions. You're just lucky you have one already in there. Plus, apartments fall into disrepair over time, but I just watched their progress on fixing the outsides of the buildings this summer to make it look nicer. You can't build them new every year. I think people forget about that. I have to update this post. LOVE it here. The management changed between when I put my deposit down and when I moved in, but so far no complaints. Nice side of town, close to everything. It's been totally cool. Also nice to be close to my aunt, grandma, and b/f who live in this complex. It's a nice place, same location as the pricey apartments, and are kept up even though they've been here a while. Waiting list is HUGE so if you're even thinking about moving here, get on that list ASAP.

I've lived here for four years, I was a hesitant at first to move to the Castleton/Fishers area because of the traffic, but I have been very satisfied with the maintenance and the quick response that I recieve when I have a problem. The office staff is always friendly and collects my mail for me while I'm out of town. I'm glad to call The Masters my home!!!

I can only say wonderful things about the Maintenance and the staff. If I call in a work order they respond with in an hour! I plan to stay at The Masters until our home is finished.

I have lived here for over a year and have loved it! I have only ever had one problem and that was with a lady allowing here dog to poop in front of my patio. The office staff responded immediately to that by writing a letter to all the pet owners saying that if someone was caught not picking up the droppings then they would be handed a $25.00 fine. I have enjoyed my experience at the Master and I love the office staff!!!

I lived at the Masters for 3 years and really enjoyed it. Maintenance always fixes everything asap. yes there are some minority, but its 2005 where is there not? I felt safe but always took extra precautions, again its 2005 anything can happen anywhere. I just wish the staff could stop the people who don't live there from dumpster diving, and the guy that loved to fish and parked his truck in the yard by my patio. Convenient that they always show up right after the office closes or before they open (sneaky, sneaky) Loved my apartment and would still be there if I did not have to transfer with my job.
