Pretty terrible experience with 21. I only lived there for six months and I was charged damage fees for the past several years - $700 plus my security deposit. I tried to dispute the charges, but they mailed my fee notice to me just before the dispute deadline passed. That way, I would have no time to issue a written dispute. In addition - maintenance was very poorly managed, the "fitness center" is embarrassingly lacking, the electronic front gates were often broken, and the lock on my front door went unfixed the entire time I lived there even though we requested it be fixed multiple times. Considering the number of people regularly killed or hurt at 21 apartments and the trash and beer bottles that pile up on 21 property throughout the week, I would absolutely recommend living anywhere else. The Pointe was much better and dealt very fairly with tenants. Even Aspen, as expensive as it is, would be a better option than 21 Apartments -- especially considering the fact that you'll end up spending just as much money in unwarranted fees at 21 as you would rent at Aspen. I wish I could rate 0 stars.

Horrible is not a strong enough description. We moved my daughter for the fall 2014 semester. The "ready" apartment was so filthy, there was actually dry vomit on the floor, the walls had never been cleaned or painted there was spilled food in the fridge and stove and girls panties on the laundry room floor. It sincerely made me sick, we asked they clean it and after several trips to the office and loud complaints we were finally able to move her in 5 hours later on a wet floor. We turned her ceiling fan on to help it dry and tripped the breaker. Needless to say it never got better, the "gated community " gates only worked the 2 weeks of move in and again the following year when they were leasing again. Horrible customer service, horrible maintenance, horrible experience the pictures posted are of the apartment the day we moved in.

Close to campus, but not worth living here. Fitness room and clubhouse are not cleaned regularly. Horrible management/customer service; probably the worst I've ever dealt with. I was locked out one night after a full day of delayed flights across the country and called the after hours person to let me in my room. My bags were lost on my connecting flights and my keys were in there. The after hours person said she would get someone and call me back. I had to call back multiple times and she kept saying she can't get a hold of someone to let me in and she'll keep trying. No one called me back until 10 am the next morning and I had to sleep in my car. Roommate matching is horrible!!! I specifically asked for someone who doesn't smoke and they ended up adding a girl who smokes to the empty room. It was one of the worst living situations I've ever had! They're after your money and that is all. If I had to do it again, I would definitely not choose 21!

Pros: walk across the street to be on south side of campus. You are responsible for your own lease. You have your own bedroom and bathroom. free printing at the office, just bring own paper. Pool. I am done with this place. If i had to do it all over again i would NOT live there again. the apartment is cheaply made. screen door will not stay on track, our door wont close and lock properly (and this is after 2 years of work orders and them "fixing" it). We have since then given up on getting it fixed. It has now been 30 days since we found our AC does not work and turned in the work order and it still is not fixed. 30 DAYS. We have called and physically gone to the office everyday. maintenance clearly doesn't know how to fix it (after multiple attempts). They finally hired someone to look at it. It just took 29 days to do so. The walls are paper thin and you hear everything your neighbor does. you can count on overages for utilities. The workout equipment in the office is terrible and needs replacing. parking has been unusually tight this year. I would not live here again.

I am an international student who got accepted into MSU for spring semester. My two options for housing were to pay 2700$ for Griffis dorm at MSU. It's a good dorm on campus. Then I found about Pointe and 21 Apartments. They cost almost 1900$ a semester. That's 800$ cheaper than dorms and you get your own private bath a big room and a kitchen. Also you don't need to get a bag of quarters to use the washer/dryer since at 21 apt there's a set in your house. I called both of them in the first week of December. 21 Apartments agent picked up pretty quick and explained me all the features and payments and told me she would send an email within the hour. (I got it in 50 min). Pointe took 3 calls to pick up and finally the "agent" gives me some random information, clearly he didn't have a clue what he was doing and I asked if he could send me an email with all the info. He said sure but I never got that email. I called Pointe again the next day and it was the same thing. I was able to sign a sub lease within 3-4 days. If the staff can't pick a god damn phone and explain couple of stuff, how do you expect them to solve bigger issues. I have already signed a lease for the next year and I will probably do it for years after that.

Overall, 21 has been pretty good. The apartment it self is nice. With nice appliances and decent furniture. The best part of living in 21 is the distance it is from campus. It has ever other apartment complex beat when it comes to that. It is a hop and a skip from campus, which is great. This is my first year in 21 and I have already renewed my lease for next year. As far as the staff and maintenance, I cant complain. Maintenance, from what I have experienced is very fast in fixing things. I made a request one day and the next morning they were their to fix everything. The staff in the office is very helpful and nice. Everyone is very caring. The one bad thing I will say about 21 apartments is that the internet service is one step from awful. You will need an Ethernet, the wifi is nearly useless ESPECIALLY at night. I know this may be something out of the hands of the 21 staff but this has been an ongoing problem that seems to not have a solution. Other than that, 21 has been a great experience.

I love 21 Apartments for all their services and their staff are so nice and proactive. The apartment is just a walking distance to MSU campus. I am an international student and just after 6months of my stay, I have renewed my lease for another year, so instead of 1 year, I will be staying there for 2 years. I decided on this mainly because, staying there have really helped me great deal in so many ways, in terms of academics, soundness of environment and all the good things one can derive from an outstanding apartment. Would have even love to stay more than two years, but my course is for 2 years.

I have had a great experience living at Twenty One for the last few months! The location is great, the staff is wonderful, and the environment is very good! You are only a few minutes (by bike or foot) from the heart of MSU's campus. All of the staff members are very friendly and super helpful. If there is a problem, it will be fixed quickly and pleasantly! The whole complex is gated, the streets are clean, and residents feel safe. The apartments are furnished, and although it isn't top-of-the-line furniture, it is decent. There is plenty of space everywhere--bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living area, laundry room, utilities room/closet. I have enjoyed living here so far, and I plan to be here much longer! *The details for rent in the questionnnaire are incorrect. Here are the real numbers: $440/person for a 4 bedroom/4 bathroom, all utilities included.

I chose 21 because of how close it was to campus and the fact that they had roommate matching. My cable wouldn't work at first but it wasn't hard to get a cable box to fix that. I love all the amenities and being able to ride my bike to campus.

The convince of being so close to campus is really nice and for the most part it's a great place to live. The only disadvantage in my eyes is the electricity overage wich is my fault. Overall great place to live!

I chose 21 because of its close proximity to campus. I enjoy being able to walk to classes and football games. Overall my experience has been good. The maintenance requests get completed very quickly, and everything seems to work well. A few problems with the wifi in the beginning, but they were solved fairly quickly. I would recommend 21 to friends!

I moved into 21 Apartments because of the convenience of being close to campus and the price was reasonable. However, these two qualities alone did not make it a good choice. We had electrical problems in our apartment, it was very noisy, the trash dumpster was almost always overflowing, there was litter scattered everywhere, the printer was constantly out of order, etc. All this considered, the absolute worst part of my experience at 21 was moving out. A month or two after moving out, my final account statement came in the mail. It said my roommates and I owed about $2000 in "damages". Almost all damages we were billed for were tiny blemishes that were already there when we moved in. These damages were so minute, we did not bother to list them on our move in inspection sheet. After contacting the property manager, she was ABSOLUTELY no help. Please save yourself the grief and look elsewhere. This apartment complex is notorious for overcharging people at move out time. In the end, moving into this complex was not worth it.

This property is ripe for a class action lawsuit. I have lost count of how many former tenants have had horrible experiences while living there and especially at move-out. They charge outrageous cleaning fees and for replacing the furniture. Many people suspect they have charged multiple tenants to replace furniture, yet the same furniture was left for the next tenant to use. These apartments appear heavily used and well-lived in at move-in, but generally people overlook the condition in order to live close to the campus. Be warned that they will "document" stains on furniture, floors and fixtures, marks on the wall, etc. and claim you caused the damage. Just because you are willing to live with less than spectacular conditions doesn't mean you shouldn't document them. They will try to say you caused it all, even though what you are seeing is an accumulation of normal wear and tear over many years. The management threatens former tenants by saying they will report them to a collection agency if they do not pay their exorbitant bill at move-out. This is harassment when the charges are unfounded and a tenant's credit is adversely affected. It is plain and simple blackmail. Before you move into an apartment complex, ask former tenants about their experience at move-out. Loss of security deposits and extra charges are acceptable only if a tenant has caused real damage, not for normal wear and tear. If an apartment is left as clean as it was at move-in, this should be acceptable to management at move-out. If you ask former tenants of 21 apartments, you will figure out quickly that they try to screw you over at move-out, even if you have been an excellent tenant and left the place as clean as you found it. My advice is find something else. Based on what I have heard and seen, a majority of people regret having lived here.

Warning! Don't live here! I ignored the terrible reviews from online and from friends and ended up living in the worst apartment. I'm not even the kind of person who writes reviews online, but my experience at 21 was so bad that I figured I needed to warn others from living there. Management there is terrible. Upon moving in the apartment, it was a mess and the kitchen still had expired food from the previous residents. Some sticky red liquid had been spilled in the fridge and just left there. The internet was terrible and only one person at a time could use it. Overall the apartment was nasty, very small, and not worth the outrageous price. Sadly we made a mistake of a 12 month lease and couldn't move out. I don't think I ever got a good night's sleep, every night some apartment would always be playing loud bass music, and since the walls are paper thin, you could hear everything. The few times we tried having a few people over, the guy living under us would come knock on our door and yell at us. Upon moving out, I was charged over $170 for repainting my room and bathroom, $100 for some cleaning, and then another $100 to buy them a new couch for the apartment. I understand why the couch needed to be replaced, it must have been over 10 years old and was disgusting when we moved in. I just don't understand why we got charged for the couch. There is no way they honestly think we had anything to do with the couch being old as dirt. When trying to reason this with management, they told me there was nothing they would do, and that if I didn't pay the charges they would hand me over to a collection agency. I even told the manager I only had 150 bucks in my account and needed it to live off until my next check in a couple weeks. She told me then, that I better start begging my friends and family for some money. She said it was my word versus hers, and that I was essentially powerless to change the charges. I'm not sure why I even went to talk the manager, she just got my pressure up. My only guess for why they would charge me, is they know that I'm a college student and they could get away with it. Also probably because they don't care at all about their residents and just want as much money they can get. After my experience there at 21, I wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy. There are many and much better places to live in Starkville.

BEWARE**** Please take the time to read this if you are thinking about living at 21! This comes from someone who just graduated and was very well-known/respected on campus for the past 4 years! I only want to stop this particular situation from happening to anyone else. If you chose to live at 21 Apartments due to it's "convenient" location near MSU's campus, you need to beware of a few things first! All tenants need to scour the apartment for imperfections. Pick up couches, turn over cushions, check mattress, open cabinets, EVERYTHING! Make not of it if they give you a checklist on move in day AND document it with your camera or in writing for yourself. DO NOT opt out of the final walk thru! 21 apartment will try to prey on you because you aren't there do defend yourself against excess charges. I am writing this because I just moved out in July and am now being charged over $600 in fees due to what I, a reasonable person, consider regular wear and tear (something that an apartment complex is assuming the risk of when they lease an apartment). We were good tenants who took care of their property so I can only imagine what would happen to anyone who is really careless or messy. In addition to these fines that you could incur, I thought that I would also mention that we had the police outside of our door on three separate occasions due to loud screams, that indicated fighting in our neighbors apartments and in the outdoor common area. On one occasion the officers knocked on our door and we had to re-count what we had heard of the altercation. Lastly, we had a light out in our kitchen and when we called maintenance, they stated that "it would cost too much and be too much work to fix that". YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

This is my first year living at 21. At first it seemed like a good place to live. Upon move in day they apparently changed the locks and did not make any keys. So me and my roommates waited around all day for them to make a key for us. It took them like 7 times to get it just right. The entire apartment was dirty. Holes and stains all on the carpet. I know for a fact that whoever did that has been charged for the damages, so why has the carpet not been replaced? Oh right so they can keep charging and pestering people to pay it then pocket the money for themselves. Anyways, the kitchen was disgusting. Our cable does not work even though we have tried numerous times to get help with it. The bathrooms are another story. Just disgusting and grimy looked like they haven't been cleaned in years. The porch was dirty and even had an old broom laying on the ground for some reason. Oh and the staff was incredibly rude when I called to ask a few questions. Also note, you are paying rent every month just to be told which room you can live in because switching rooms in the apartment is a lease violation. Parking has not been an issue yet but all the random charges for things me and my roommates have not done are getting ridiculous. Wouldn't recommend this place for anyone.

Anyone who says they enjoy living in 21 apartments obviously have a very low standard of living. It was the worst apartment I've ever lived in. The apartments are not nice at all, very overpriced for the cheap stuff they furnish the apartment with. People were ALWAYS hanging outside right by my window, so the noise is horrible. I bought room darkening curtains and it still didn't help with people constantly flashing their lights through my window all hours of the night. I don't mind noise on the weekends, but on week nights I think the "security" 21 has should be doing their jobs. I literally did not go to sleep until at least 1 or 2 on weeknights because of all the noise outside and bumping music. The way 21 is built is so bad that it sounds like elephants are jumping up and down every time the person living above you walks around. Not to mention my roommate had a live in boyfriend and they would always go over on the electric bill. $120 electricity cap is NOT ENOUGH FOR 3+ people. Oh let's not forget the excess charges they give you when you move out. Forget getting your deposit back. 21 is an absolute JOKE and I do not recommend anyone to live there. I hope my review can keep someone from spending their money on such an awful place.

I lived at 21 for 2 years and I liked it a lot. Never had any real problems. They did initially charge me with cleaning/maintenance fees when I moved out. But after sending them an email challenging this, they dropped all the fees and I was able to get my security deposit back in full.

Living at 21 was bittersweet. The first day my friends and I moved to 21 in 2010 we found our apartment door wide open and a cleaning crew telling us they weren't finished; keep in mind move in day was at 8 am! After our parents finally just kicked them out so we could move in we realized we were thankful that they were there because we were given the wrong keys! Some of us were missing keys and some keys didn't even match a lock in the whole apartment! I didn't get my correct bedroom key until a month after I had lived there. Upon inspection we realized our carpet had burn marks, couch & love seat had stains, bathrooms were just yucky, the place was just a mess. They tell you to turn in your inspection sheet ASAP, in my opinion hold that thing as long as you can because once the "coverups" have dried you'll see the real damage showing through and it'll be too late to mark it down. Fast forward until that October my father (my guarantor) gets a call saying that they were going to pursue legal action against me because I refused to pay my fees. Well I was NEVER contacted about said fees and neither was my roommates or their parents! They said we had overages from August & September which we knew weren't possible. After I argued with the people in the office they told us it was a standard fee and everyone had to pay it. LIES!!! After we paid them we found out it was not standard and that some of our neighbors didn't get the call or they had to pay a different amount. Maintenance is a joke. Even the new maintenance men they kept hiring. Before calling maintenance youtube the problem and just try to fix it yourself. If you mess it up then call maintenance but be prepared to badger them depending on how serious the problem is. The gate is a joke, half the time it didn't work. The walk-in gate had problems too. My gatekey was frequently deactivated and their reasoning was that I kept it too close to my phone or magnets. I left my gatekey in my car so that's not possible. The printer in the computer room was frequently out of commission. They let you use the printer in their office if you needed to but some of the office workers were b&^%$ who acted like you asked for their arms when you needed them to print. I made it through 3 years of -------- by turning the other cheek. If you can't do that then don't stay here but that cheek will be burnt when you move out. On the move out list they hinted at you getting a cleaning crew to clean to their specifications. I couldn't afford it but hell if you can, hire them ASAP! I got charged for the carpet (which the workers said they were replacing), painting walls (nothing was hung up), trash (one roommate went AWOL & left their stuff), and etc. My rent frequently went up. They sent us a letter one year in November telling us that if we didn't renew by December and within the following months until March then our rent would increase by a set amount in August. Who in the hell is thinking about new leases and new apartments after 4-5 months? It's hit or miss honestly. I recommend this place for people with no car...

Simply put....Parents and students beware. Apartment 21 is beautiful on the outside. The entrance and model apartments are very well kept. Upon initial contact with the office personnel, it seems as if your dream in finding the perfect rental apartment actually came true. However, once the lease is signed and you are a tenant, the nightmare starts. The roommate match is a joke. I think the only items that are really looked at for the match is the resident sex and possibly race. My daughter had two roommates with nothing in common. They allowed there boyfriends to stay over frequently, never cleaned up, and left garbage everywhere. My child was the only person to take out the garbage. We went to management about the roommate issues and was informed that we would have to pay a fee to have my daughter matched with two other roommates. Since we are residents of Starkville, my daughter moved home and I paid out the rental lease. Also, take pictures of what the apartment looked like when you move in. It will not look like the display model apartments and they will charge you an unbelievable amount for things that were not repaired in the beginning (such as a run in the carpet). My overall rating for this facility is very below average -1 and a 0 for the management. They are a parents and students nightmare including unhelpful and unprofessional. By the way, I read management's response to another review that stated they rarely had issues with matching roommates. Management should stated we rarely have to change roommates because we charge hundreds of dollars if you want to change from the roommate we match you with. Very seldom do I write a review but I wish this review will give others a true heads up on Apartment 21...It is not a dream but a nightmare.

I have a friend who lives in the new town homes and they are crazy nice! 3 floors, 4.5 baths, with all new appliances and everything. 21 is really starting to step up their game. I've heard terrible things about 21 in the past, but I've heard they are under new management and you can tell! I wish I would have moved here now after visiting a couple friends here then where I chose to live near by. It just seems like everyone is friendlier.

WORST PLACE EVER! They will charge for EVERYTHING! Even things you don't have. Like pets. I never had an animal when I lived there, yet they charged me a 100 dollar pet fee. A couple friends and I signed a lease for a 3 bedroom apartment and found out on moving day that they "ran out" of 3 bedroom apartments and gave us a 4 bedroom with some random 30 year old lady that yelled at us to go to bed at 10 o'clock every night. My bad. I thought I was in COLLEGE. And they didn't clean at all before we moved in. We asked them to clean our carpet multiple times and they never did. But after we moved out, they charged all of us for dirty floors. How does that work? And the walls are paper thin so you will hear everything your roommate or neighbor does. Oh, and the "free tanning" was NEVER open. And don't bother inviting your friends to the pool because they won't let them in. And the computer lab printer never works. This place is AWFUL! They are greedy little people that take advantage of new students and their parents that don't know the area well. Sure, it looks great during the initial tour with the pool, work out room, computer lab, tanning, and gated community..but please don't be fooled. You will be stuck hating life for a whole year.

I lived here from 2008 - 2010. Staff was friendly but often had to complain more than one time to get anything done. When I moved out, they charged an outrageous amount of money in "cleaning fees" and other bull crap even though I had myself and several others help clean/move out. Their "security" at night is a joke. They are definitions of ------ bag robocops. The front gate is a pain in the butt. It only works half the time. And that just so happened to be when it rained. There are plenty of better options to live at around Starkville than 21 apartments. The only reason I stayed 2 years was because of the proximity to campus.
