I have been a resident at 21 for almost 3 years now,and I love it!! It is my home away from home. I have experienced nothing but positive from the staff in the 21 office. They are more than willing to help if they can. I understand that there are just some things they can not do because we all have rules, but when they can do, they do so. They have matched me with such wonderful roommates!! We all have become really good friends. That is very hard to come by, especially when there is four of us in a townhouse. We are under new management now, and things are getting even better!!! I would totally recommend 21 to anyone!!!!

I've lived here for 2 years and its the perfect home away from home for me. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I always feel safe coming home late from class. I would recommend 21 to all college students looking for a close apartment to campus!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HORRIBLE PLACE!! I am originally from Tuscaloosa Al and I was looking around Starkville and loved the look of the apartments and the staff seemed very nice...until I became a resident. It first started when they told me I had a credit of 1,000 and I told them they were mistaken and tried to pay my rent anyways they said no you don't need to pay your rent till November or December so I didn't pay August rent sense they told me not to. I went and rechecked Septembers rent and they told me the same thing... They then realized Their mistake and charged me for a bill of 1,400 since I didn't pay two months (which was their fault) so I talk to them and they were VERY rude about it I was tired of arguing so I paid it... I then had a maintenance problem with my room key it took them two weeks just to come fix it so I couldn't lock my bedroom. The last problem that I had was the Roomate match I put as my match that I don't like to drink, smoke, party, and I like it to be clean... I am living with two girls who smoke and drink all the time and leave it a mess and their boyfriends come over and smoke weed occasionally. I told them my situation and they ignored that they were smoking weed in the apartment and told to me to change my roommates I would have to pay $250. Which I do not have sense I just paid them 1,400... So now I am living with Roomate I do not get along with and am not happy at all at this place! The only good thing about it is the tanning beds and the gym but other than that maintainer is horrible, parking is ridiculous and their Roomate matching is TERRIBLE!! I can not wait till my rent is up I will be moving out ASAP!

Pretty pathetic that the entire business model for this apartment is based around taking advantage of college students. You WILL lose 100% of your deposit no matter what condition you leave the unit in. The grounds of the complex are disgusting. There was literally trash and vomit on the breezeways, and around the property, that was not cleaned for the entire year. You should expect to have fictitious overage charges regardless of usage (they will never show you an itemized power bill, even if you ask for it). Forget about safety, the gates do nothing, plus an assortment of "thugs" like to frequent the property. There were gunshots fired at a car in the parking lot this past year. The only reason this place is still in business is because it's located in Starkville, if it were anywhere else, they would have gone bankrupt long ago. Seems okay at first...but it's a bit like living in Baghdad, exposed urine and feces included.

Both my sons recently moved from this complex after three years. The management never cleaned or painted during that time or when the previous tenants moved out. Of course we cleaned on move out day for four hours, broke nothing but not only did we lose the entire deposit but they are now charging us for years of neglect with painting charges, carpet cleaning charges and furniture cleaning. These people are simply in the business of taking advantage of kids. Simple routine maintenace and cleaning should be an expense incurred yearly by management.

Worst living experience I have ever witnessed. Be prepared for the management to get every cent out of you they can all while not caring about a thing you say. I feel nice giving the "staff" even a 1 star rating.

I like 21 Apartments
I have been a resident at 21 Apartments for the past two years, and have really enjoyed my time there. The complex always looks nice. They have a crew out all of the time working on the grounds. Also, with the few maintenance issues that I have had, the maintenance team has always been really nice to help me with what was going on. I have never had a problem with the office staff. They are always so nice and helpful whenever I come into the office. I plan on staying at 21 Apartments for the duration of my time in Starkville. The picture that is posted with this site is from a time when the trash compactor was broken. Since it has been fixed, I have yet to see it get bad. Things happen, and people should not judge based upon one or two occurrences. For a more accurate picture of what 21 actually looks like, please see the attached photos.

Management bully's young people
My daughter was staying there and she had a bit of an emergency because the people that had agreed to keep her dog brought it back to her unexpectedly, so that the dog ended up being at the apartment for a couple of days. As soon as they made this "shocking" discovery, they sent a letter fining her $100 and giving other land-lord speak threats. She was doing all she could to find a way to get the dog out of there. But they never bothered to talk to her about it. Instead just the fines and the threats. This resulted in the tenant making some decisions under stress that resulted in the dogs death. (I'm not saying the death of the dog was really apt21 fault.) But some simple talking would have avoided the problem. When i talked to them about it, they just kept spouting about there policy. I asked, and they said that they have to send out one of these pet fines about two to three times a year. I think their policies are basically tenant hostile, and they will do anything to avoid any effort like actually leaving the comfy office to do some work. Like talk to a tenant about a problem. Instead they lead with threats and fines etc... This same tenant still doesn't have a mail box key for the apartment even after multiple requests, for some reason they never quite got around to giving it to her. I guess they are too busy. Frankly absolutely appalled by the management at 21 APTS. I will find the owner and discuss this with them. BTW, when i talked to the manager about this he just "couldn't" wave the $100 fine. I don't care about the fine, but it just goes to show you what 21 apts is all about. BTW: I am the co-signer to the apartment, not the actual tenant.

My roommates and I are moving to Avalon
When my lease is up in July...I recommend leaving 21 and going to Avalon. It might not have all fancy stuff in the clubhouse and it is farther from campus. But you get a HUGE APT...plus cable and internet is included. I am going to be saving so much $$. My apt here is falling apart. The maint sucks...takes a month to get anyone to fix anything and you have to keep asking...plus parking is a nightmare. My parents came to visit last month and they had to drive around for 20 min to find a spot. MOVING...CANT WAIT!!!!!

TERRIBLE!!
21 apartments are terrible. DO NOT live here. The office staff is rude and unhelpful. They do not respond to complaints. The walls are paper thin so you hear every little movement. There is always trash all over the place. Yes, it is cheap and close to campus, but I would rather pay a little more for a better quality of living.

No Complaints.
I have lived at 21 for two years and will continue to live here. It is very close to campus, all inclusive, and the staff has always been very friendly and helpful. I have never felt threatened living on this property with the 24 hour courtesy officer and the gated community. If I need something, I call the office and they are always happy to help me. If I have a problem with my apartment, I put in a maintenance request and the problem is fixed by the maintenance crew promptly. I save money living at 21 because I do not have to drive to campus, join a gym, or pay for tanning. The tanning beds are awesome and are open during office hours. They also have tons events with tons of free food and prizes. Who doesn't love free stuff? 21 also has a study room so I no longer have to walk to the library late at night. It is a student apartment complex, so people can not expect it to be completely quiet 24/7. 21 understands that we are college students and are very understanding. The leasing office even waives your first late fee even after you have four days at the beginning of the month to get your rent in. If you don't pay your rent on time, you will be penalized. If you park your car in area it is not supposed to be, you will get towed. All of the rules and guidelines are set out in the lease that you should have read and other notices/rules are emailed to the resident and phone calls are made to notify you. They offer several warnings for first offenses on most things that violate the lease, so people have no reason to complain. If you break the lease, you will have to suffer the consequences. This would happen at any apartment complex, not just 21. I love 21 and everything about it. It is my home. It's sad that some people think that not all rules apply to them. It is impossible to keep everyone happy, but the staff at 21 definitely strives for the best. I suggest that you set up a tour and check it out on your own rather than reading reviews from disgruntled residents who trashed their apartment and do not want to pay for it.

Yes it's close to campus but that's about the only good thing about it.....hired the same cleaning crew they use and still had to pay when I moved out...claimed they're replacing the carpet in the common area...wonder how many times they have claimed that and never do it..they never clean the outside of the apt. complex...NASTY place to live.....don't do it.

Awful place to live!
The worst place to live in Starkville. Trash is always over flowing, parking is awful, always loud. If you have a problem the people in the office don't do anything about it. They are worthless.

21 is AWFUL!
21 is the worst place you could live in Starkville. The management is very unorganized and don't care about their residents. All they care about is renting out an apartment. They pretend to care, but they don't! The woman that runs it --- is very rude and is clueless about what she is doing. The --------- constantly writes up contracts wrong. I strongly suggest nobody ever lives in 21!

WORST APARTMENT STAFF
Not only are the managers pocketing money constantly, the rest of the staff is completely incompetent. Former managers would let the electricity allowances roll-over each month if they were not used, well the new manager pockets that money. The former leasing agent slept with young college students that lived in the complex. The maintenance man, --------- (who has recently quit), was very inappropriate, often telling me I should be his girlfriend and I would make him a happy man, had no respect for privacy and oftentimes would come into my bathroom while I was showering to do "inspections". Noise complaints are a waste of time, for 2 years I had a group of elephants living above me it seemed, pictures actually fell off of walls sometimes because they were stomping so hard. No matter how many times I called the front office, nothing was ever done. Basically, living at 21 was the WORST experience of my life. Have I mentioned that the foundation is sinking so my front door is crooked and bugs are in my apartment? And when I called the front desk their explanation was "well, we only hire the exterminators to come on Wednesday" so I had to wait 3 weeks to get a Wednesday afternoon off work to wait on the exterminator who wasn't called until 3 pm? Also, they tried to tow my mother's car twice, she came to visit once a month and stayed the weekend. Apparently, even non-football weekends, they like to tow cars. Those "security lights" that are brighter than a prison light and are located right outside everyone's windows actually attract bugs and if there is the tiniest crack in your window, your room will fill with gnats.

Don't do it.
I'll start with the good things about this place: walking distance to campus, furnished, own bathroom, pool. On the other hand there are many negatives: ugly&dirty furniture, thin walls (i could hear whispers in the next room), apt stays dirty no matter how much you clean (seems that dust just appears out of nowhere), gates are pointless, overages, move out packet is like a book, suggested we hire a cleaning crew (what is the deposit for?), on game days visitors must pay to park, you share a mailbox with your roommates (could be an issue if you don't know them), they advertise free tanning but they only have 2 beds and waiting time could be up to 1 hr, overall just a bad experience. I am moving out after my one year stay. Check out "why you don't want to live at 21" on Facebook.

Do not live here!
1.) The management is absolutely horrible. 2.) They nickel and dime you with stupid and ridiculous fees. Such as the 25 dollar trash fee. That's right, you can't even put you're trash temporarily in front of your door as a reminder to take it out later. Oh, and if you don't pay it within 24 hours, that's 50 dollars. 3.) If you live in the back buildings furthest away from the garbage compactor, you have to walk it there. Or drive it, which is what most people do. 4) As a result of people driving their trash to the garbage compactor, because 21 is to stupid to put garbage bins closer to certain buildings, you often see trash everywhere as a result of trash bags falling off cars. 5.) They break lease. THEY BREAK LEASE. Yep, they don't keep their end of the bargain sometimes, but YOU have to deal with it. 6.) The speed bumps are ridiculous and the gates are pointless. 7.) They constantly send you annoying automated calls. 8.) They don't let you know about fire drills. (Which scared the heck out of me and my roommates) 9.) They are constantly raising rent. 10.) Maintenance is terrible. 11.) Maintenance once "forgot" to close our door during the 100 degree summer and we were stuck with a 50 dollar overage a piece. 12.) Maintenance WILL walk into your room uninvited. 13.) If something is broken, give it a month or more. 14.) The wireless is absolutely horrible. I'm making this group via an ethernet cable because our wireless isn't working for the 15th time this school year. I'm not exaggerating. 15.) They will tow your friends if they stay here too long. 16.) If someone vomits or takes a leak in the breeze way, it won't get cleaned up even if you call them multiple times. 17.) There are flood zones in some of the parking lots, but they don't let you know that. 18.) Most of the buildings are sinking because the foundations are horrible. This results in cracks in the walls and doors not shutting. 19.) The walls are paper thin, so if your neighbor decides that having a party during finals week is a good idea, you're in for a loooong night. 20.) Sometimes the gate doesn't even open with your key.

Twenty Apartments
Twenty One Apartments, at one point, had a chance to be the best apartment complex in town, but there are a lot of things that goes on within the inside of the management that could possibly ruin the chances of it being in existence within the next few years, in my opinion. I loved Twenty One when I first moved there. Whenever I had any problems, I could always count on getting help from the property manager and leasing manager whom were there in 2008. After the new management took over, a lot of things changed. I can honestly say that there is a major difference between a property caring about its residents and a property caring more about money. A property that cares about its residents would pay more attention to their residents and actually care about their opinions and concerns about the property. A property that cares about money will do anything to get money. Not going to say which property Twenty One has become, so with that being said I will let you choose for yourself. Before I moved out, I probably would have recommended Twenty One Apartments, but now I would not set anyone up for that disappointment. Twenty One had the opportunity to be the best, but something within the management would definitely have to change before that can happen. I WILL SAY THIS, BE VERY CAREFUL OF HOW YOU TREAT PEOPLE TWENTY ONE APARTMENTS, YOU WILL REAP WHATEVER YOU SOW!!!!

Don't let your student live here!
We had problems from the beginning. On move in day we arrived 15 minutes before the office was to close to get our key to move in. The office was already closed. I got the emergency number off the door and called and called and called - seven times. No one called back. I had to get a hotel and miss a day of work. The next morning it seems that no one forwarded the phone to the emergency number. They really didn't care that that was a problem for me and could have been a great problem for the tenants. When it came time to get our security deposit back, I got a bill for painting the rooms telling me I had a certain number of days to respond and needed to get with the roomates and make one response per apartment. I sent a letter with a copy of the move in inspections noting that the walls were full of nail holes and scuffed with need of painting. It has been over two months with no response. I have called and left messages for the property manager to call me back and you guessed it, he hasn't called yet. I have moved my daughter to the Old Charleston Cottages and it has been nothing but a perfect experience. I would highly recommend.

Worst Place In Starkville, MS
I don't know where to start these apartments have so many problems. First of all I had a 3 bedroom apartment and the foundation used to move so we would have cracks above our bedroom doors and it would make the doors hard to lock. So when we would call maintenance whenever they would come in a period of 2 weeks. They would look at it and act like the foundation moving is not a big deal. The maintenance at 21 apts. is horrible. They have people that do not know what they are doing. My toilet was messed up and they sent an inexperienced guy in and all he did was make the toilet worse. Also please take pictures of your apt. when you move out because 21 will charge you alot of money for stuff you didn't even do. It's funny they want to charge you for "so called" repairs when you move out but when you were staying there actually paying rent they couldn't come by and fix anything. To sum up these apartments is one word: Horrible!

love 21, no complaints
I have SO enjoyed my living experience thus far at 21. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and I always feel very safe when on the property. The gates stay closed, and the courtesy officer is on call 24 hours. If I ever need anything, I can call, go online, or visit the office to make a maintenance service request, and the staff always comes to check and repair the issue as soon as they can get to it, which is usually very prompt. It is a student apartment complex, so it is a bit noisier on the weekends, but that is expected. During the weeks it is fine, and it is walking distance from campus, which saves gas and the hassle of getting stuck in campus traffic. The bedrooms all have their own private bathrooms, everything you need is included in your rent (washer/dryer, cable/internet, electricity, water, free tanning, the outdoor pool, 24 hr clubhouse access to fitness room, yoga room, study rooms/computer lab, and hangout area with kitchen, pool table, couches, and big screen tv). Also, the rent is on an individual basis, so you aren't responsible for your roommates. Considering everything that it includes, the prices are good. If you ever need anything, the staff in the office is always helpful to meet your need. The furniture isn't magnificent, but it is still tasteful and adequate, and anyone is welcome to use their own furniture and store what the apartment comes with, or use it in addition. Most of the time, the people who complain, do so on their own account. If a rent payment is late, you pay the fee. You have four extra days to get it in after the first of the month, and you're usually allowed one waived fee per leasing period. You read the lease (or should) before you sign it, and all restrictions and allowances are clearly stated there, so residents have no excuse to be upset for being charged for a lease violation, like a grill on the balcony. They usually get a warning, first, before their first charge, anyway. No place is perfect, but it is obvious that 21 Apartment tries their best and is always coming up with new ways to make the living experience better. My advice- give it a chance and see for yourself.

Horrible!!!! The staff are absolutely horrible. Things were always broken, and they don't seem to care if they are fixed. They CHANGED MY LOCKS without notifying me, and I was locked out in the pouring rain. When I went to talk to them (after waiting for about 20 minutes while a staff member talked on her cell phone), they claimed it was my fault. If you have a problem, it's always your fault. So live here at your own risk.
