Great Place to Live

Not only did I live there 3 years, I also worked there. It seems more expensive than other apartments because it is all-inclusive, unlike most other apartments in starkville that charge your rent and then makes you pay the utilities separately. Of course it isn't perfect, but no place is. The people that complain about the rediculous charges are not understanding at all and are impossible to make happy. Damages are a case-by-case basis. There is a $50 late rent policy that cannot be changed - the owner decide that, not the office, but people are told rent is due on the 1st, late on the 5th when they move in. If someone orders a package, then they should know to come to the office and check for it. It is a great distance from campus. They are still working out some kinks, but for the most part, its a great place. If you are polite and courteous to the staff, they will be much more willing to help you.

    Not Worth it

This place is terrible. They nickel and dime you for everything that you do wrong. The move out prices for damages aren't accurate, and they overcharge you for EVERYTHING, claiming that they adjust prices on a "case by case basis" (yeah right). For example, the list says carpet damage is $80 (reasonable, right?), when I asked them about it, he said it would be $600! (You'll see how ridiculous this is when you see the thin 80s bowling alley carpet). I tried getting some black scuffs off the wall from before I lived here, and the paint came off before the scuffs did! Everything is extremely cheap and the furniture is HIDEOUS. You'd be better off living on campus. The walls are extremely thin so you can hear everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) your neighbors are doing. Parking is horrible because the spaces are so tiny. You basically have to swing extremely wide or pull in some and then back up and adjust to fit, then you're always too close to the car next to you so you get dings in your door from them opening their door into yours. Management is rude and no one in the office can help you. It ends up being a lot more expensive than it seems, and they charge you $50 if ANY payment is late (which they won't contact you about, they'll just charge it to your account and hope you won't check it). No one lives here longer than a year (unless you're an athlete, who get treated like royalty). Rent goes up EVERY year (and I mean SKYROCKETS). The beds are hard and uncomfortable. I pretty much dislike everything about this place except it's proximity to campus and their extremely nice maintenance man. DO NOT LIVE HERE.

      Do not live here.

I moved in here fall 2007 with 3 other friends to go to school as transfer students. The rent was fairly priced when we moved in, but now it has skyrocketed to $405 for a 4 bedroom. The kitchen is tiny for 4 college sized guys, only 1 or 2 can fit at once. The furniture is unfortunate, but it isn't bad. The REAL problem is the wall are incredibly thin. I hear my neighbors above me stomping about, and whenever the toilet is flushed, it sounds like a waterfall between the walls. The parking is deplorable with tiny spaces and huge speed bumps. The front gate is a JOKE!! It is a nuisance when it is closed because it does not keep non-residents out. I've had countless people call me at all hours of the night for me to let them in. I've read all the reviews and nobody has mentioned the incredible cluster f--- that was the mangled concrete in the parking lot at the end of the rock wall. They have tried to fix it for at least 3 years, only to finally have it fixed. Office workers are brain-dead when it comes to helping you. They constantly lose packages. The internet is the biggest joke. All the apartments have THE SAME PASSCODE so if your neighbor hops on, there's nothing you can do if they slow it down. Even when the internet was non-existent, Metrocast will do nothing to fix it. Another joke is the outdoor storage. They don't give you a key to it, you have to check it out from the main office. The kicker is IT'S THE SAME FOR THE WHOLE BUILDING. Nothing stands between your belongings and anyone who wants to get the key for your building. The latest in the long list is the electric overages. They normally bill you every three months, and the bill has been between $8-$22 per person for the three month period. Not bad because we have extra freezers/mini fridges and run the A/C constantly. The deal is they give you $35 per person for electricity. If you go under, the balance is rolled over to apply for the next month, if over, you have to pay. Now, they have decided to bill us every month and don't do the roll over. They didn't even tell us. They have just charged us, then charged us the $50 late fee. They claim to have called and emailed us about the recent changes and overages, but can provide no proof or record. The garbage situation at the front dumpster has been an eyesore for 3 years. They NEVER compact it on the weekends so it spills out from the dumpster into a huge 10ft heap. I feel bad for the people that lived close to it and had to smell it. Maintenance is hit or miss. Sometimes, they show up quickly and do the repair properly, other times it's just another hassle. We had a screen door that fell of the tracks, they replaced it with the incorrect model. Once it fell off again, maintenance got mad and threw it off the balcony. When they came to replace it, they wanted to charge us $45 for a new one (keep in mind that the price to replace the screen door at move out is $30). I could go on and on all day about this place. The ONLY good thing is it is close to campus, the pool and clubhouse are nice, and there are plenty of parties going on if you're into that. Bottom line, go find somewhere else to live and commute to campus. You will be MUCH happier.

        Do Not Live Here!

I decided to live at 21 Apartments because I believed it would be a great transition from dorms to apartment living. It really is convenient because it is within walking distance from campus and its nice to have utilities and rent all included in one bill.. HOWEVER, the management is comprised of some of the rudest people I have ever met. My roommates and I have been living here for almost a year and we have had countless issues, none of which are ever really resolved. First of all, they tell you that their security is top notch. This is a lie. Yes, the community is gated. But- the gates are ALWAYS open so it makes no difference. The only time they shut the gates is during football home games so that visitors to Starkville won't park in the already overcrowded parking lots. This will also make it impossible for your friends to come visit you during a football weekend. My roommates and I had friends visiting and tried to throw a party one weekend after a game, and 21 made sure that none of our friends could even get into the neighborhood. Second of all, the maintenance is a joke. All of the appliances are in terrible shape and the apartments all have a lot wrong with them. The apartments have track lighting, and if one of the light bulbs burns out its up to you to pay for a new bulb and replace it. If something goes wrong, you can request maintenance but it will take upwards of 2 weeks just to get it looked at. The maintenance men are really shady, and have made me and my 4 girl roommates very uncomfortable several times. Third, the management is RUDE. The woman in charge, Katrina, is one of the most inconsiderate people I have ever encountered. She is not the friendly, helpful landlord she makes you think she is when you are signing your lease. As soon as you're into a contract at 21, you are stuck there until the lease is up. Its almost impossible to get out of one of these leases. The people working in the offices are very rude and not helpful at all. We had an issue with trash bags outside of our neighbors doors once. Our neighbors had 8 bags of trash outside their door. So 21's employees searched one of the trash bags, and found a document with one of my roommate's names on it. They claimed this made ALL the trash property of my roommates and I, even though it wasn't. The document was there because my roommate gave it to our neighbor so he could study. We tried to argue our case, but 21 would not listen AT ALL. They ended up charging us $100 extra that month. Things like this happen all the time, and are ridiculously frustrating. Overall, I would advise anyone looking at this apartment complex to think again. Also, their is literally no insulation between the apartments so you can hear EVERYTHING your neighbors are doing. My roommates and I have tried to file complains several times, but of course nothing was done to help us. It may seem nice, but you will end up getting treated rudely and paying tons of extra charges every month. As high as the rent is for this place, it is definitely not worth it.

Management doesn't care, they tell you what you want to hear

My two friends and I were told at the beginning we were going to meet our 4th roommate before they moved in and we were supposed to be able to meet them and agree, but 21 didn't do that, they just stuck them in the apartment with us without "matching" them as they say. Within a month none of us were getting along and every time we went to the office with it they just told us they can't do anything about it, even though we didn't ASK to have this stranger live without us. My roommates and I went and talked to the head of the office, Katrina, separately about moving out and she told us all the same thing "Just sign this and you'll be the first on the list to get out!". B.S. She is telling this to all of the people. The students working in the office don't care if you're unhappy because I have been told different things every time I go in there, they are just trying to get you out so that they can continue their computer game. They get free rent for working a certain amount of hours in the week, so why should they care that each time you pay your rent it goes up another 10 dollars. Don't live here unless it is a last choice, it is the worst place I have lived.

ok well i love living in 21.. the rent is a little high i agree but compared to other schools, this size apartment complex is soooo much more expensive other places so im happy. i also dont see all the problems people have with the furniture.. its not as bad as it sounds.. put a mattress pad on the bed.. makes it 100% better! and the couches i dont think are that bad either and if you think the kitchen chairs are too hard and uncomfortable.. then put on cushions!! my apartment always had hot water, we could call the mainteneince people and 5 to 10 minutes later.. no lie.. they were knocking on the door. i thought everyone is so nice also. sometimes we hear our neighbors above us but its only their fault not the apartment complex.. and we have called the office to get them to tell the nieghbors to quiet down and they did within the half hour. I think its great here.

I've been living at 21 since they opened in fall of 2006.And I can say I have no complaints at all.The greatest thing about 21 is location. With gas prices rising, I walk everyday to class. It probably takes a couple of minutes max to make it to class. The management always throw events for the residents. My experience has been the best so far.If there are any problems with the apartment, the maintenance crew are always willing to help.I have no regrets about staying at 21.I would recommend to anyone!!

For your sanity and well being, do not live here

It started out nice but here is the facts 1. parking sucks 2. horrible garbage problem, when asked to fix they said that they could do absolutely nothing about it! 3. they charge WAY to much money, WAY to much. There are plenty of cheaper apartments, even if they don't include all of the stuff 21 does.(it doesn't equal out they are crooks) 4. REALLY CRAPPY FURNITURE@! they say fully furnished and it is, but the furniture is something you would see in soviet russia. Cheap and hard! The table sucks cause you can't wipe it down because there are cracks at the end of it and food gets stuck. They said they were going to furnish stools but they did not. It took an entire semester to finally get a fan in the room, and a light! can you believe that' no light outlet! Couch is hard as a rock and the only thing harder than that is the BED! Crappy cheap carpet that was poorly poorly put in. The internet that they provide can hardly reach the far room in the 4 bedroom apartments 5.THEY CHARGE WAY TO MUCH!!!!!!!!!! Let me break it down for you...... This is what I was charged for a 4 bedroom. 365 dollars per month, 4 roommates, thats $1460 per month! They provide. cable, internet, fully furnished(crap),electricity stipend, water. It does not equal out, I have found plenty of cheaper places. BY THE WAY, THAT IS THE CHEAPEST ROOM! oh yeah, also they just bumped up the rent for this cheapest room to $395 per month! 6. This so called gated community does not have a system for unauthorized entries, you can just wait and zip on in behind someone whenever someone else opens it! SOME SECURITY!!!!! 7. Horrible SET up in apartment, the living room is oddly large and rooms small, not good feng swei 8. We had pipes busting in our walls making our bath water spew out and soak into our carpets, causing an awful smell. 9. if you have a problem with the internet or cable (that they provide), they will tell you its your problem and you have to call them yourseleves ( northland cable). 10. LOUD parties and alchohol and drug usage is rampant at 21 apts. Don't plan on getting any studying done on thursday nights, or on the weekend. Don't ask them in the office to do anything about it either. 11. OUR locks frequently broke 12. They say no pets but we hear dogs barking 13. They say only students live there but they DO NOT check that status at all. 14. The only good thing is the guy that goes around and fixes stuff and his little sidekick. They are nice and try to help out as much as possible. 15. I subleased to a guy and it cost me 100 dollars. All that summer each month I would get something in the mail saying that I hadn't paid. I called the fella that was subleasing and he told me he did pay. I call them up, each month of the summer and they after hours of searching and me leading them through it that they had put it on a different account with his name on it because they didn't know my name was on the room. I said, why did I pay one hundred dollars for the sublease? They informed me that it was so they would know who was there, WRONG IT WAS SO THEY COULD GET SOME EXTRA MONEY!!!!!! The whole subleasing scam is a joke, just make an arrangement with the person that you want to sublease from and pay them. Going through the office is a headache and nothing good came of it. HE wasn't anymore liable for that apartment with me paying the 100 dollars at the office than if we had worked out a personal agreement between each other. im gonna round this up. This has been a crappy horrible experience in living. They don't care about their tenants and if you live there they won't care about you. Dont be deceived as I was.

do yourself a favor-- DON'T LIVE HERE!

where do i begin? (1) the "roommate matching program" they supposedly have is --------. my roommate and i were told for MONTHS that we were never going to get a third roommate in our 3 bedroom because they didn't find anyone "compatible." if they did, they were supposed to give us the opportuinty to meet then person and THEN decide whether to live with them PRIOR to moving in. a whole two weeks after we moved in, we got a phone call at 9:00 at night saying we were getting a new roommate (a complete freaking stranger!) the next morning!! (2) they didn't clean the carpet or the furniture before we moved in. our couch is filthy underneath the cushions from the people who lived here before us. whenever we walk across the carpet after taking a shower our feet turn black-- it's disgusting! (3) the matinence men just come into our apartment whenever they damn well please-- no e-mail or phonecall is EVER given as a forewarning. keep in mind these are middle aged men who SHOULD NOT be allowed to just walk in on female tenants at all hours of the day. (4) the office will never tell you whether you have a package or not. as a matter of fact, they mysteriously "never got" one of my packages from a company that i have been ordering from for years and had no previous problems with. the mail carriers have also put two of my smaller packages into another apartment's box-- twice! thank goodness they were honest people and came over and gave it to me in person. (5) our apartment was infested with ants when we moved in, and it was months before anyone ever came to spray. by that time, i was already forced to buy my own insect repellent out of my OWN pocket. (6)there are no parking decals or designated parking spots for actual residents. people are constantly coming and going at all hours of the night-- and there's never any parking spots for the people who actually live here! the office will do nothing to enforce parking space regulations. every weekend (and some week nights) my roommate and i have to park several buildings down because there are so many cars here. as a small female, i personally don't feel comfortable having to walk so far at night by myself. (7) the staff here can be just plain rude-- i've never felt like they genuinely wanted to help me every time i've had a problem. (8) the gates that are supposed to keep people who DON'T live here OUT never work-- i've seen them closed maybe several times all year. (9) every time someone takes a shower or flushes the toilet above us, you can hear the water dripping down constantly-- it's never ending! it sounds like the roof is going to come crashing down. (10) i know this is a college town, but is it really necessary to hear drunk people screaming outside my window almost every night of the week? i also cannot count how many times someone just a few feet away from my window has been blaring music that literally SHOOK my bed while i was trying to sleep. (11) when did apartments stop coming with lighting in the living rooms? it's so dark in there! (12) the walls here are as thin as paper. i can hear the people in the apartment next to me when they simply COUGH. ..do yourself a favor and DON'T live here. heck, as much money as they charge to live here you could probably save some money and find a much better place at the same time.

                    Seemed like a good idea

21 seemed like a great idea at first. However, after awhile it became clear that the management and staff don't care about their tenants whatsoever. My biggest pet peeve is that the maintenance people never bother to knock or tell you ahead of time when they're coming for inspections or whatever. They just barge in! The maintenance men almost saw me naked, and I have a big problem with that. Also, I thought I was going to be living ON MY OWN, not paying way too much money for baby-sitters. My parents aren't paying to send me to school, I am. If I wanted supervision, I would have opted to live on campus. And what's the deal with the "No Pets" policy? We can't come to a compromise, like no animals over a certain weight, and with a hefty pet deposit? Also, there is no light in our living room. When we moved in there was a large box on the counter, containing the remnants of a broken wooden fan with light fixtures in it, and in its place was a white fan with no fixtures. It's so dark you can't even read a book in there. And when we brought this to the attention of the staff, they told us that those outlets aren't wired for lights. So what's that extra switch for in the living room that seemingly controls nothing at all? Hmm? Our wireless internet didn't work when we moved in either, and we got the runaround from both the management and the cable company, both of them claiming that it was the other one's responsibility to fix. I'm glad we had our own router, because it took about two months for ours to get fixed. They also never tell you when you get a package. Sometimes there's a note in your mailbox, but most of the time there isn't.

                          An apartment strictly for freshmen!!!

TwentyOne apartments are strictly for freshmen. This is because residents here are not responsible young adults, they are kids who are too happy to be away from Mommy!! The walls are not walls, merely sheetrock! The parking spaces are horrible, so if you like your car without dents and scratches, this is not the place for you. The spaces are so small that even if you park correctly, you still have to barely open your car door in order to not bump it into someone else's. The list goes on, but mostly, these apartments were not built correctly, just quickly so that they could rip us off. Upper classmen, it's not worth it!!

                            BAD, BAD, BAD!

                            1. Every time the apartment above us flushes their toilets it sounds like the roof is caving in.
2. There is trasj everywhere.
3. The maintenance men will leave muddy footprints in your clean tub.
4. They say to not put trash outside your door yet they always have trash sitting outside the clubhouse.
5. The gate sucks and is a whole lot of trouble.
6. The move out date will leave you homeless for a few days.
7. The speed bumps are ginormous...and there are tons of them.
8. Enjoy getting up at 3 am? Well you will with their fire alarms. The firmen will be pulling you half naked out of your bed.
9. Don't hold your breath about getting your packages. Sometimes they are in your box, sometimes they leave a note, sometimes they DON'T! ... well most of the time they don't.
10. They randomly send out eviction notices or credit warnings for no reason!
11. They raised rent almost 75$ a month.
12. I'm tired of typing but I could go on and on and on.

Nandra is nice though.

DO NOT RENT HERE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It started out nice but here is the facts
1. parking sucks
2. horrible garbage problem, when asked to fix they said that they could do absolutely nothing about it!
3. they charge WAY to much money, WAY to much. There are plenty of cheaper apartments, even if they don't include all of the stuff 21 does.(it doesn't equal out they are crooks)
4. It took an entire semester to finally get a fan in the room, and a light! can you believe that? no light outlet! Couch is hard as a rock and the only thing harder than that is the BED! Crappy cheap carpet that was poorly poorly put in. The internet that they provide can hardly reach the far room in the 4 bedroom apartments
5.THEY CHARGE WAY TO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!
7. Horrible SET up in apartment, the living room is oddly large and rooms small, not good feng swei
11. OUR locks frequently broke
12. They say no pets but we hear dogs barking
13. They say only students live there but they DO NOT check that status at all.
14. The only good thing is the guy that goes around and fixes stuff and his little sidekick. They are nice and try to help out as much as possible.

im gonna round this up. This has been a crappy horrible experience in living. They don't care about their tenants and if you live there they won't care about you. Dont be deceived as I was.
