After reading what everyone has to say, I find I tend to agree with much of it, but there are 2 ways to look at it. I changed my approach and taking a look at the whole picture, I realize that living at The Alexan is apartment living. Aside from being a pretty property with nice amenities, it is pretty normal. It's not high end or we would pay even more for our units, however; with granite countertops, washers and dryers in the units, high ceilngs with crown molding and pretty paint, it's still a step above many. Its basic in services, but it s like any other apartment community. No concierge or front doorman. Can't access building through clubhouse after hours. Its easy to whine about the issues, but then the next place will have some of the same issues or different ones unless you just get lucky. After many years of apartment living and managing large apartment communities and management and quality assurance for hotels, I can say that living here is apartment living. All communities have issues with noise, rude neighbors, thin walls, and no insulation between floors, pets not cleaned up after and on and on. Its not easy catching people who choose to live without any consideration of those around them and choosing not to be the best they can be. It just takes a few to make one think it's everyone. We do have some really great residents here too. This is reality and the issues will always be there. If the residents that cause the problems would grow up, start being kind to their neighbors and take pride in their community then things would change. I'm not holding my breath. The manager can fine them for leaving their trash in the corridor before work, especially those who don't put it in the can; or leaving dog poop in the corridors, come on people...really!!?? Makes you wonder if their parents really raised them to be such selfish careless adults. If there were cameras in the corridors management could see who is not cleaning up after their dogs and breaking into apartments. That is a call and action that only the management company can make not onsite staff. Crime in Houston is high all over, a sign of the times and the size of this growing city. If they enforce complaints about noise, it will cut down only as people find out that their bad behavior has consequences and will not be tolerated which takes consistency and follow through. As for the pool noise in the summer, yes it's bad and I had to move into a unit right on the pool because nothing else was available as well as pay a premium for the location. I knew what I was getting myself into no matter how much I was assured that it wasn't that way. Call me crazy, but after seeing other places in the area, I felt the safest at this property so I decided to give it a try. I won't stay because of the pool noise, but thats not to say I'll find anything better elsewhere, I just knew coming in it is not my choice to live on a noisy unattended pool and I haven't changed my mind. Management can't do anything about the way the building was designed and parking is situated. Yes, many of us have to walk far to get to our cars and when the office is closed, we have to be exposed to other areas that are inconvenient or in some cases feel unsafe, but after living in apartments in other states I learned to always be aware of my surroundings, and try not to end up in a bad situation such as getting into an elevator late at night alone with people I don't know and always keeping my doors locked. The Alexan has alarms in our apartments, use them. As for cars being towed, if they are parked illegally they should be towed. It doesn't matter if it s a resident or a guest, we all know where the parking is and you just have to walk like the rest of us. You see the parking when you first come to tour the property and I'm for one grateful for having covered parking. You know how narrow the driveway is and if you parking in the red zone means an emergency vehicle can't get to someone who needs help that s not good, that person could even be you. Not to mention the city dictates the requirements. The guests seem to be better at parking in the guest parking. I'm happy that management is taking the parking seriously. I wasn't happy parking on the 5th level for guests because I can't find anything on the 1st thru 4th...I live on the 1st. I see things that they have done and still could do better but when you have a few residents who choose to live by their own rules and not be a part of the community; I don't see it ever really changing. Some of the services could be better but I also know that if they've been burned by a few residents, it gets ruined for those of us who do care about our homes and our community, and many of us do. Such as signing for packages, or issuing an extra parking pass when I need to use a rental car. I will say, they watch my door when I'm traveling so that notices and solicitations don't pile up which I greatly appreciate. I have never seen the security officers, but am told they are here. The freeway is very busy but tell me, where in this city isn't it? Nothing anyone can do anything about, just plan ahead and add more time to your travels. I have yet to be on any freeway especially at rush hour(s) and not have to sit in traffic. We do have access to a lot where we are and lots of shopping and restraunts can be reached on the frontage roads. And the back roads take only minutes to the Galleria. The staff has been great for me. They have always been friendly and accommodating. I believe they do everything within their power to make this a pleasant experience. From the office staff to cleaning and maintenance, everyone is friendly, approachable and truly here for us. I think the management company could step up and authorize additional security perhaps cameras in the corridors and the residents held more accountable. Neither are easy. The Alexan is a pretty property with nicely decorated apartments. The amenities are top notch and won't disappoint. Bring your patience for those who live anywhere that don't care how they impose themselves on you and you'll be just fine. It can start with you, if you move in to an upper floor please be considerate of those below you.

Bad place to live. Parking is very inconvenient. Traffic is a huge problem in this area, especially if you're trying to head out on the 610. The complex is not maintained well, since there is dog poop everywhere. Management is rude and defensive not doing much of anything to fix the problems that plague this place, and they turnover often, which is a red flag. Tenants are loud and rude and the walls are paper thin. You will regret moving here. I do, and so do my neighbors.

Terrible place. Wildly overpriced for what seems to be nothing but appearances. The living condition here when you look at everything makes for a pretty disappointing experience. Management is just not good at dealing with this property at all. Trash fills the hall ways. Tenants are very loud and inconsiderate. There's a crime problem. I have seen several letters telling me to "lock my doors", can they do nothing more? I even noticed they seem to come at the same times, always in the mornings...like this place is tagged as an easy place to rob. Parking: are they serious??!! Haha, it's kind of a joke. Have you ever seen a place that has so much red on the curbs? It's like everywhere you go!!! A big circle of red. 2 of my neighbors have been towed, 1 got hit with a HUGE fire lane ticket of something like $300 bucks, wow! And I was coming home from the bar one night at 2 AM and noticed 3 guys with the towing company walking car to car, top to bottom, looking to find people to tow. If they were half as good at cleaning up the dog poop in the place as they are at getting their tenants towed, it might be a decent place to live. Also, I've never seen traffic like this before in Houston and I've lived in 2 different complexes throughout the city. It's IMPOSSIBLE sometimes. Really just the mornings and evenings when EVERYONE floods the highways to go home...but this place is right at a major highway crossway, and the traffic backs up like gridlock in NYC sometimes. Incredibly frustrating. It gets old, safe to say, so fair warning. I can not recommend this place, no matter how nice some of the layout plans are. Pools are pretty too...but they get clogged by college people in the summers. I'm talking loud, shouting idiots leaving cigarette butts floating around and the whole nine. If it was a busy day...the pool turns hazy with all the nasty oil and suncreen and junk they leave in there for days. Such a shame. This place could be nice if it was managed better.

I have been in the Alexan Silber for approximately 1 1/2 years. It is conveniently located, just outside the loop, for many attractions. What I appreciate most is that it is calm and peaceful. It is also quite quiet and friendly. I come home every night and am not bombarded with loudness at the apartment. But the best thing about the Alexan Silber is the staff. Management is responsive to my needs in a friendly manner, they are also open to suggestions to make the apartment stay better. I have had to request maintenance for minimal upkeep. Maintence is always very friendly and willing to make the appropriate changes in a timely manner. The cleaning staff is amazing. I so appreciate them taking the time to clean the building every morning. Again, they are very friendly and willing to help with things that don't pertain to cleaning, ie. opening the doors when I have loads of groceries. Most people that come to visit me are in awe of the cleanness and the quietness of the Alexan Silber. So, overall, I would definitely recommend the Alexan Silber to any professional coming to Houston. It is conveniently located, just outside the hustle and bustle of Houston traffic (just make sure you get familiar with traffic patterns and you are good to go!).

In summary, do not attempt to move in here. Here are some reasons: 1) Parking is a nightmare. Literally...the entire complex except for the parking garage is a fire lane. And guests must park on the fifth floor...trust me, this gets old very quick. The complex is very long filled with "The Shining"-style hallways, so there is no quick in or out at this place. If you try to park the curbs, you will be towed promptly and it will be a nightmare. 2) Management is incompetent, unimpressive, and generally a pain. Priscilla is almost certainly not on the most popular list of apartment managers, which is a shame because she is a very sweet lady...but her "management" of the property is somewhat opaque to the tenants that live here. There used to be a guy named Chris who worked there...wow, that guy didn't give a care for anything. I heard some nightmares from a nice older couple who moved in after they sold their home for a steal...Chris crammed them into an overpriced small apartment and didn't educate them on any of the policies, so they were towed their first night there. 3) The entire complex is a firelane. Seriously...again, the parking situation is a nightmare...and management can do nothing about this because the complex is designed like a giant c-shaped firelane. Park there at your own risk...you'll have a $300 parking ticket, a tow, and damage to your car when they tow it. Yes...that did happen to me. My fault for the tow, but the towing company of course denied the damage and caused me a tremendous amount of trouble on my brand new very nice car. And management of course simply said "Well, you shouldn't have parked outside of the parking garage." Just look at the picture I posted of the very long hallways you must walk from the garage every day. I have to walk 2 of these, each the same distance. Trust me...it is a literal pain. 4) Tenants are loud. I have a guy above me literally tromps around at all hours of the night dropping what sounds like free weights on the floor as if he is some greaser at the gym trying to impress people by dropping heavy stuff. I'm not impressed buddy...I just want to sleep because I work very long, very late hours. 5) Traffic in the area is probably the worst Houston has. The 610 / I10 intersection is a nightmare in the mornings. I work in the galleria area and it often takes me 30-45 minutes to get to work in the mornings. Just think about that for a second as you review google maps and contemplate years of your life dealing with this. Again...management can't fix this problem either...it's the complex and it's horrible location. 6) It attracts crime. I had a guy walk in my apartment one morning. There is an organized group of thieves that case the place walking the complex every morning between 8AM and Noon to see if any doors are unlocked. Of course, my own mistake, I left my door unlocked ONCE and that day was the day a thug walked into my apartment when I was still there just waking up to start my day. A very unpleasant experience. Management's comment: "Well, you shouldn't have left your door unlocked." True, thanks for that. I appreciate your concern...you incompetent horror of a property manager. I will say it's a pretty complex. But the parking, traffic, tenants, crime and management make it a sub-par place to live. I've heard all my neighbors complain. That, too, is not a nice thing to have on your weekends...a bunch of unhappy people, through no fault of their own because people just want to live in a nice place that is cozy and comfortable...not worrying constantly if they'll get robbed, towed, or neglected. So again, save yourself the grief and don't move here. I've been here a long time, enduring all these things because I love the pool area...but this one saving grace is not enough for the rent I pay or the inconvenience I endure. I tried to settle my lease and they asked for $5K...so principle alone will keep me here until I can move out in June. Please read all reviews and do give considerable attention to the negative reviews...they are there for a reason, and this many complaints should be an obvious red flag. Management likes to try and comment on these reviews as anonymous tenants, too, making some of the negative reviews less negative or "angry"...but people are angry for a reason. Because living here is generally an uncomfortable experience. Good luck in your search. I hope this saves at least a few people the trouble I have had living here.

I am glad I have the opportunity to review this apartment complex, and I am going to try to be as constructive as I can in my criticisms. Overall, I have to say this has to be one of the worst, if not the worst, apartment complexes in the Houston metro area. There are a few specific reasons I would like to cite in supporting my claim. Firstly, I would like to emphasize that, while the staff of the management company is friendly, the neighbors and tenants of the alexan silber are extremely inconsiderate. Because of this, I think the management bears responsibility for not enforcing the complex's policies. Let me give you some examples of what to expect, should you make the grave mistake of choosing to rent here: 1.) We have an adjacent tenant that blares his television in the early morning hours. We cannot sleep, since he keeps us up at night. This problem is only worsened by the fact that the walls are paper thin. In the apartment above us, the tenant constantly is slamming things on the floor and dragging stuff around. We have to deal with our walls shaking because of his inconsiderate behavior. 2.) People refuse to pick up after their dogs, both inside the apartment hallways and outside. There are bags and waste stations conveniently located on the grounds, yet people still are too lazy to clean up after their pets. It is not uncommon to see dog $h*t or pee in the halls that no one has cleaned up. We avoid the embarrassment of our living situation by never inviting our friends to the apartment. It is disgusting! There seems to be this mentality that someone will always clean up after another person's dog because he/she chooses not to take the responsibility. I have, on more than one occasion, had to clean up after another person's pet because it relieved itself near my door. Interestingly enough, when we were initially touring the apartment, we witnessed a lady letting her dog relieve itself in the hall and then proceed to leave it there. Were it not for the staff member telling her she needed to clean it up, she would have gotten away with it like everyone else in this complex. 3.) The posted speed limit in the parking garage is 5 mph. Management does not enforce this, however, and people drive like bats out of hell. I was almost hit walking to my car because an extremely inconsiderate and irresponsible drive came speeding around the corner. This is, perhaps, the best example of why management's policies are completely USELESS. If management does not enforce its policies, then everyone gets away with their actions. They should have someone recording license plate numbers and distributing parking tickets. Believe me, this would actually be a great revenue maker for management in the initial stages (until tenants finally realize they can't get away with speeding in the garage). The problem is only exacerbated by the fact that the garage is one sided and only has one channel for traffic to exit and enter. The bottom line, to summarize, is that you will end up overpaying for nothing more than a college dorm room. A very expensive one at that. The tenants are inconsiderate and irresponsible, the management company is incompetent, and the overall experience is frustrating. Should you choose to rent at Alexan Silber with the current management, you can expect to experience everything I have listed in this comprehensive interview. Please don't get me wrong, there is a limited set of advantages. The pools are nice, the location is great, and the game room is a good feature. These features, however, pale in comparison to the problems you will encounter here. I will do everything in my power to see that this management company goes under. Until there is a change in attitude and enforcement of policies, you would be wise to save your money and explore other apartments. For the rent Alexan Silber charges, it is unacceptable to have this kind of experience. Consider yourself forewarned.

I moved in a couple of months ago and so far I'm really happy with this property. I love the location. No matter what I want to do, it seems like it's less than 15 minutes from everything. The complex grounds are always clean and the pools always look great. At first I wasn't sure I would like having a parking garage, but now that I've been here a few months, I really like it. My car stays cleaner longer and if it's raining, you don't have to get in the rain to get from your car to the apartment. This is the first apartment I've had with stained concreate and I love it. Easier to clean and the apartment always feels cool. The office personel has been really helpful. I had a couple of issues when I first moved in, but they were resolved within a day or two. Met a few other residents and everyone seems to be really nice and helpful. Definitely different than other complex I've lived. Everyone seems to be younger and more professional. So far I'm really happy I with my decision to live here.

This is a good place and it is what it is...an apartment in Houston. Because of my job I need highway access quick, it has it. Highways busy- yes but where aren't they? Parking, its there- yes, lots of cars but its a garage and like anywhere in Houston park where it says you can park, otherwise you take the risk of being towed. Regarding the hallways they have always been clean the 5 months here. Maybe it's a second floor thing (hallways clean) but I can assure you if I ever saw someone's dog crapping in the hallway I wouldn't take it up with management I'd take it up with the owner allowing this to happen. I have called the office for multiple things and a day hasn't gone by before issues fixed. Ex. Track lighting bulbs replaced, filters, towel rack fixing, freezer coil needing to be cleaned and I dropped a small cup that got wedged in my disposal (my fault completely) and they removed even though a hassle and didn't mind at all. We pay more than we would like too but that's because we moved in July and all rates in H-town are higher then. But 1550 includes (parking spot, trash, avg water, and dog) for a large one bedroom with pool view. If you paid that in NY, Chicago and tried to complain about someone walking into your apartment because you left YOUR door unlocked your parents would even laugh at you. Don't mean to be rude but living in multiple cities I know how important it is to be responsible for your own safety and belongings. Regarding noise you are in an apartment. I hear the people above but it's normal stuff (walking, cleaning, some music). I know the people below us have heard the same and we are mindful but it goes with living in an apartment. We aren't in condos our houses people. My one petty complaint is the trash service pick up. Since you have to pay the 30 fee I try to use it. I didn't read the rules on this in the beginning (my fault, not theirs) and put the bag outside the door not in a trash bin. I get why that's important so if it leaks its not in the hallway. But when I get a warning (thx for the warning btw and not a fine) and I see two other units on the second floor at least once a week leaving bags out and they get it picked up with no warnings I wonder why the trash service isn't consistent? Again petty but wanted to leave my honest opinion.

My husband and I have lived here for a little over 2 years and we LOVE it! We pay a little extra to have a designated parking spot near our apartment but other than that the amenities are free and AWESOME. There are 2 pools, a game room, a poker room, wine room, and TWO gyms onsite. They even have free workout classes and free personal training for residents. The units are nicer than just about anything we looked at when searching for a place after selling our house. -granite countertops, crown moulding, wood blinds, washer/dryer and my favorite HUGE closets. Not too many kids here, but it's a pretty young community avg age 30? The pool in the summer has a good beer and BBQ vibe without being drunk and disorderly. All in all, best apartment living I've ever experienced!

I moved to this apartemnt complex about 9 months ago, at first management was pretty good and responsive. Since I moved to my apartment I been having trouble sleeping thanks to my loud and unconsiderate next door neighbors. They turn on their TV extremely loud starting at midnight till 5am every weekday!! These are hours when normal working pleople should be able to rest. I have called the apartment office and talk to them about the never ending situation about 7 or 8 times and nothing has been done in 8 months. Management keeps telling me to contact the courtesy officer in the property (which I have done in numerous occasions), but he has NEVER showed up or talk to my neighbors. Im really fustrated with this situation and the lack on action from management, all they say is that my neighbor is really nice...I bet they like him because they dont have to live next to him!! My advice is if you want to be able to rest peacefully at home DONT move here.

                      PRETTY PLACE - Poorly Managed

Pay a $50 premium to overlook the pool because it was all they had. Was reassured there is an officer who lives on each pool and the pool closes at 10:00 pm. Rude residents and their tons of guests are always at the pool late at night, making noise, moving the furniture around and cooking on the grills. If you don't want to have to listen to the b.s. and loud music all weekend long at the pool...don't live on it. But oh...that leaves the freeway noise. No good options. Oh and not mention last Saturday someone had their dog at the pool and kept putting him in it. I really don't want to swim with people's dogs. The other Issue is parking. If the office/clubhouse is closed you can't get to your apartment if your live on the 1st floor. Unless you take the elevator from an upper floor or leave the building through the gate to the front of the building, walk across and enter through the other gate. Was told I can park on my floor and come right in. No I cant. And if it's late at night, you are forced to park as high as the 5th floor of the parking garage for guests, walk down one flight of outdoor stairs and walk through an unsupervised parking garage and make your way through the entire building that looks like the shining. Long hallways all look like and weird people hanging out in cars makes for a bad situation. Extremely unsafe. My apartment is beautiful. The building is impressive. Chris and Kerri are great in the office. Upstairs neighbor walks like an elephant. The caliber of residents..or in this case I'll call them "tenants" is below standard. They run credit checks and made me pay $500 extra deposit because basically all me bills are paid and I had no open credit. Judging by what's getting in here...they must be requiring lots of additional deposits. It took 3 requests to have issues taken care of, but they finally got it.

Pros: nice staff, nice units and amenities, good maintenance, "gated". Cons: walls are very thin--I can hear my upstairs, downstairs, and side neighbors clear enough to know what they're doing, although gated it's not very secure--outside cars are always following residents into the gates and I've been seeing a lot of sketchy people here lately, trash is additional $26 a month, water and gas is submetered and is always high--my bill last month was $99!!! Since when is your water bill more than the electric bill?!? Over crowded parking garage and pools are always noisy filled with drunk college kids.

I moved in December and I really like my apartment. I was surprised to read all of these bad reviews. The office people were nice. My apartment is beautiful, I face the pool and I have a big closet. I went to the holiday party, a mixer and they just told be about a crawfish boil next week, so I am surprised to read about all of the negativity.

                            Avoid if possible

I am one of the original renters at Alexan, I moved here in July 2009 and I got a great deal at first. Positive: The staff remembers me and is always friendly and helpful. The maintenance staff is always available and reliable. Negative: Office hours suck. Their office hours used to be 8:30-5, I think now it's til 6. But when it was until 5, it was impossible to pickup a package or anything that was left at the office for you. Further more contacting the office for any problems and speak face to face was impossible if you had a regular job. But, first thing I realized is how thin the walls are. I have lived at many apartment complexes prior to this and this is by far the worst. I can hear my neighbor in the bedroom on his phone. I hear the phone ringing, and him picking up and saying "Hello". I can also hear him playing his guitar using horrible skills every Saturday at 6AM, which I have told the office about, but nothing has been done about. The water has a weird smell sometimes, similar to sewage, it's a lot better now, but I remember my first year there, it was pretty bad, or maybe I just got used to it :) The neighbors are inconsiderate and loud. I am very aware of myself and try to keep the volume of my TV to a reasonable level, and walk normally, instead of my heels like my upstairs neighbor. People shout in the hall ways, which projects and echoes throughout the whole building. Sometimes I even see shirts and shoes just lying there because of some people partying the night before. It's basically a college dorm. But the worst is the pool area. I pay extra to be at the pool, to avoid the traffic noise from i10, but that's the worst thing I have ever done, because the pool is way louder. People stay past hours, talk loud, shout and do whatever they want, without anybody stopping them, because there is no security on the property. Furthermore, people party on their balcony's and talking at a loud noise, which also projects because of the hollow of the pool area. Parking and garage construction is bad, but meh, you get used to it. It sucks when you have groceries, and you have to carry stuff around, but I have learned to go more often and purchase less every time I go, so it's only one trip to the car. Towels were provided the first month I lived there, then they disappeared. The fitness staff sucks, since the old one moved out. They use P90X rip off, which they can be sued for copyright infringement, but whatever. There are no rules and people just leave their stuff lying around, especially the meatheads leaving their weights just on the floor instead of returning them. The floor is uneven, as well as most of the switches and outlets. The trash pickup is a F-ing rip off. They charge you $25 a month, no matter how many people live in the apartment. So I, who lives by himself, pays as much as a family of 4, who produce 4 times the trash I do. They do not pick up the trash on Friday and Saturday, and usually that's when I have most of my trash, so I end up taking it myself anyway. We no longer do apartment gatherings, where we can talk about problems at the complex. I have brought up the point to have a security guard, but it was shut down by the previous company, which I understand, but at least they let me bring it up. Since then, we have not had a "town meeting" mostly because it kept getting requested. The main reason is cost, but check this out. There are 400 apartments, that pay $25 a month for trash. That's $10,000 a month for trash service that works 5 times a week for 2 hours top a day. I would love to have that job. I mean where the hell is all that money going??? In conclusion, do not move here. The rent has been raised and I pay 35% more than what I do when I moved in. My renewal notice was just delivered, and I have until end of march to let them know if I am staying. I need to give them a 60 day notice if I will move out, but they only gave me the notice 5 days prior to the 60 day notice cutoff, so I am pretty much forced to stay here at least one month on month-to-month. Classy!

This complex was great when it was under the management of Greystar. Since it was sold to Westwood, the new office staff has been horrible, especially -----; the new manager. She is underway applying a budget cut strategy. She is cutting of services that we are already paying for. From leaving the machines in the gym broken, to canceling the monthly social events, to raising the rent and everything in between. The parking is horrible where any guest can park anywhere. ----- told me that the towing signs at the garage entrance are not followed, but rather just to alert visitors. She wouldn't hire a security officer or a towing company as part of her budget cut. As a resident on the second floor, I find myself parking on the roof 90% of the time, and why? Because the garage is full of unauthorized vehicles. Stay away from this complex as it is no longer bearable. If you want to stay in this area, look for nearby complexes on N Post Oak.

I lived there for two years (2011 - 2013) and am sorry to say I CANNOT recommend the place. During the first year, I didn't have any real issues. The apartments are gorgeous, and the location was great. I signed another 12-month lease, but I moved to another apartment/floorplan. I moved into the "Betty Jane" floorplan (2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a study). It was the original floorplan I wanted but was unavailable when I first moved in. BIG MISTAKE! Because they changed management midway through my first lease, I had to redo all of my paperwork. Issue #1 - Under the previous management, my employer was a "Preferred Employer" so my deposit was waived. This new management company did not have a "Preferred Employer" list, so I now had to provide a deposit. I know it is normal to provide a deposit upon moving in, but I didn't like having to suddenly provide it after being their resident for a year. Issue #2 - I received a moveout/final bill for my previous apartment after being at my new apartment for about a week. It had a $120 charge for "Pet Carpet Cleaning". I went down to the office and asked them what the charge was for because I did not even have a pet. The lady I spoke to had the nerve to ask me if I was sure that I didn't have a pet, and I told her I was positive. She then asked me if I had any pets or babysat any pets in my apartment any time during my lease period. I told her, "Not to sound inhumane, but I do not like pets, and I am positive no pet ever stepped foot in my apartment." She told me that their files showed that I had a pet, so I showed her my copy of the lease that did not reflect any pets. She then apologized and told me to disregard the fee. Below are the main reasons I decided not to renew my lease for a third year, along with the current issue I am still facing three months AFTER my moveout. 1. Every time the A/C would blow, the study would smell like rotten fish. The stench came through the vent. We told the front office about it, but they didn't/couldn't do anything about it. Because of the smell, I never used my study. 2. The exhaust system for the dryer was poorly designed. All of the dust dumps directly onto the balcony and covered my patio furniture in dust, AND I mean A LOT of dust! It was disgusting! I asked management if there was something they could do because it turned my balcony into unusable space. They sent maintenance to "check it out" but they didn't do anything to fix the issue. Needless to say, I ended up not using the balcony at all because it was constantly covered in about an inch thick of dust. 3. I ordered something online and received a FedEx tracking email stating that my package had arrived. They usually also provide a little sticky note on my door, but in this case, there was no note. I picked up my package at the office and went back to my apartment to open the box. To my surprise, it was not what I had ordered. It was a Harry & David Tower of Treats that my sister's friend sent to me. I was checking out all of the yummy treats, when I noticed the final box was full of rotten pears (and I mean rotten as in they were brown and mushy like melted chocolate). I thought to myself, "How disappointing, considering pears are the pride and joy of Harry & David." I called my sister to let her know I received the treats, and she said that it was about time. She said her friend sent it several months ago and had asked her if I ever got it, but she never heard anything from me. I told her everything was awesome except for the extremely rotten pears. She urged me to call the company and complain. I grabbed the packing slip, and that was when I noticed that the shipping date was over two months ago. Then it dawned on me why the pears were rotten. This package sat in the front desk for over two months! I went down to the office the next morning and asked if they had another package for me, and sure enough, there was the package that I had ordered also. Had I never ordered my online items and went to the office, I would never have received the other package from my sister's friend. I was pretty disappointed in the front office staff, but I never said anything. These were issues you would never think to have, and it is unfortunate that you will not find out until you actually move in also. Now, to get to my current issue. I moved out at the end of April 2013 and was present during the final moveout walkthrough with one of their employees. The lady was very complimentary of the condition the apartment was in. Her exact words were, "Everything looks great. Wow! The carpet looks beautiful." At the end of the walkthrough, she told me I should be expecting a final water bill in the mail soon. I waited about a month. I called the Alexan in early June to let them now that I still had not received my final water bill. I was speaking to the same lady that conducted the final walkthrough, and she remembered me. She informed me that I was actually going to receive a refund. It was my deposit minus my final water bill and a carpet cleaning fee. I asked what the carpet cleaning fee was for. She said they have a company that they contract with to clean the carpet upon moveouts. After that company cleans the carpet, they send a bill to the Alexan. If that cleaning company charges anything over the normal fee (for any stains they had to do extra work to remove), then that fee is passed on to the resident that moved out. I was in disbelief. I told her I did not agree with that charge. I even reminded her that her exact words were, "The carpet looks beautiful." I told her that I had a hard believing there was a stain so horrible that it would cause any extra charges. She said she was going to speak to her manager and would call me back later that day. I waited and never received a phone call. About two weeks later, I received an email stating that I should expect a check in the amount of my deposit minus the final water bill. The carpet cleaning fee was taken off. Another three weeks have passed since that email, and I still have not received the check.

                                  Robberies and cops on-site frequently

There have recently been several security compromising issues. A truck was stolen from the garage. In the same week, a guy shot himself. Last night, I saw the cops and I yet to know what happened. Cops have been visiting this property frequently. Reason, as others said, no security officer(s) on-site. Just Google "shooting in Alexan Silber" and educate yourself before moving here. The management keeps sending letters denying responsibility for all these incidents. Parking is a problem. Guests park anywhere they like and towing is a joke. They charge $25 valet trash service, which led residents to put their trash out anytime they like regardless of trash hours, making the hallways stinky. Another thing, the new management that has just took control stopped all the monthly activities like the wine social, brunches, etc. Actually, without a prior notification, they canceled last month's wine social and residents were surprised by a last minute note on the lobby door (not on each one's door) saying that the event was canceled. Do yourself a favor and stay away for peace of mind.

                                      GREAT APARTMENT!!

I recently moved in to Alexan Silber in May and I love it! I have lived in many apartments before and this one is definitely one of the better ones. The staff and management are great, and are willing to help with any issues. When I first moved in I set my alarm off late at night- the loudest thing you have ever heard! Maintenance came after hours and reset my alarm, and were very nice about it! The pools and workout rooms are great, and the people here are really welcoming and easy to talk to. Noise is expected when living in an apartment. However, I rarely hear my neighbors or peole walking in the hall. You can sometimes hear when people are walking in heels or the occasional dog barking, but that is to be expected. The parking garage is large with a lot of space- but of course, there are some people that drive a little crazy but I think you will find that everywhere! Overall, I would recommend this apartment to anyone who can afford it! I feel safe here and have also met some really great people!

Management and Maintence is the only problem

I have lived in this complex since it was built and the first two years were great, but it has been getting worse as the months go along. There are several problems 1) The Parking Garage. They say that there is enforcement with permits, but that's a joke. You can come home at 9 or 10 on a Friday and there are no spots because guests are parked on all levels except the GUEST PARKING level on the 5th floor. You have to pray that you don't get hit either inside or out of your vehicle in the garage. You would think it was the Texas Motor Speedway or something. 2) Management- they are not as concerned with the upkeep of the inside of the complex as they are of how it looks outside. The emergency doors have been broken for almost a month and all they tell you is that they are working on getting parts to fix the doors. Also, you should not be talking tenants when others are in the office. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.... I think that there is a maturity level that is missing with the staff. Starting with wearing tank tops and shorts while working in the office. Uh, when is this allowed as an appropriate dress code. There has been a huge turnover in management and staff since the complex opened. That's a problem. I think that says a lot about why there is such a huge turnover in tenants. I am constantly seeing people moving out of the place and many people I know that live here are leaving when their leases are up because of the above reasons. Something needs to change. This complex has a lot of potential, but no one is really concerned enough to do anything about it. I think the maintenance staff are the only ones who truly care about this complex. They are on top of fixing anything wrong with your unit.

Parking, Management, Safety, Communication .... all suck! Visitors park wherever they want because the towing company NEVER comes to the complex. Management NEVER communicates what is happening on the property. The elevators have been out for almost a week and NO communication on what is going on until the 5th day when a sign finally was posted indicating it was out of order. I regret ever signing a lease here. They force you to pay for the trash service whether you use it or not. They installed gates with key codes and won't give the code to tenants. There is so much WRONG with this complex. Never again will I do a Greystar property.
