No Secret Kept!!!
The office staff gossips about everything they know about you. I knew personal information about several residents who entered the office or called before I moved in. I should have taken the detailed information on one girl's bitter divorce, or a guy's custody battle, or another guy's 20 something year old live in girlfriend as HUGE red flags to stay away. LESSON LEARNED!!! The office staff gossips too much, the walls/ceilings/floors are too thin (you can hear EVERYTHING from all of your neighbors), and parking is horrible (guests do not park on their assigned floor and despite what the signs say, towing is NOT enforced) for the prices they are asking. Sure, there are some nice amenities, but most are only offered during business hours when I am at work so I do not get to enjoy them.

Horrible apartment complex... avoid at all cost. Staff is nice when you sign, but dont give a ---- afterwards. The pool, while nice, is broken into regularly each each weekend by people who dont live at the complex. Security is so bad, Alexan is a weekly target for break-ins by crime groups that hang out during the day and walk around checking if doors are unlocked regardless if someone is inside or not... Greystar and Alexan do not care about their residents at all.

Do NOT rent here!!! Not safe, over priced and NOT pet-friendly!!!!
I rented from this propterty when it first opened up and I must admit it was great! The location was great, there was ample parking and it was relatively quite...with the exception of the construction I was dealing with but that was to be expected. Then slowly parking became a nightmare, I noticed the walls were so thin I could here the couples next door and beneath me very easily!! For the price you pay you would think they would use better building materials. Everytime someone walked by my door I could hear that as well. The office staff is one of the worst I have seen for this price you pay to live there AND the property is NOT pet friendly at all. There are only two doggie stations on the property which is not enough so there is constantly fecal matter all over the proptery, not only is there a required pet deposit but you also have to pay rent for your furry friend and GET THIS!! When I moved out I STILL had a balance of over $700 for alleged pet stains on the floor of the bedroom. One I never allowed my dog in my bedroom and two she was a 4lb yorkie...cant do much damage there!!! Take your money and your furry friend elsewhere! Then on top of that the shooting that took place a few months ago WAS TOTALLY the apartment complexes fault! Had they done the back ground checks they needed to they would have known something was fishy...I sure did! The people that rented that unit should have never been there in the first place. Do not rent here!

Great Apartments/Location
I've been a resident here for about a year and half and hopped on board when they were only charging $850.00 for the smallest unit. It's obviously gone up since then, but not by much. My primary interest for this complex is you get the best bang for your buck. You simply can't beat the location for what you pay for. It's simply the best area to get around town without all the fuss. You have direct access to I-10 and back roads just outside the nightmare of the Galleria, 290 and downtown traffic. Another plus for the location is that you have everything there. If you want to go grab a quick drink/entertainment the Marquee is across the street. If you need to go make a quick buy, just hop on the freeway and drive 5 minutes to Memorial City Mall and nearby shopping centers. As far as the quality of the apartments itself, I have no complaints. Yes, sometimes I can hear the person next door, but it really isn't enough to bother me. What can I say, it's an apartment (it comes with the territory). As far as cleanliness of the complex, it's clean. There's no trash, no major damages (it's a new property), poop from the dogs here and there on the grass but hey, I'm not sleeping or walking on it, so it's not a concern for me? Parking: There's 5 levels, you really do not have to walk far to get to your unit. If you have groceries, most units are accessible by driving curve side and then park to make drop offs. The parking layout isn't the best, but if you drive slow and careful, you shouldn't really encounter any problems. If you want to park 10-50 ft from the door oppose to 50 ft - 80 ft, then you can pay 20-30 bucks month. Break Ins: It's Metro Houston. Unless you live in a fortress, there are always going to be break-ins and more so than other complexes, especially if you live next to a major freeway. The factor is, use common sense.

Not to sure
The apartments are nice, elegant and friendly staff, the location is great but there are cons: the pool is too crowded with guys that like beer and loud music. The residents walk their dogs and don t pick up the mess The issue is that every time I see a police car is because someone has been robbed, and this has been happening very often. Other departments offer a courtesy officer for the same price. The administration only send you a letter saying that you have to lock your door. I hope owners and administrators are concern about it and do something without raising current rent.

No, no, no
I regret choosing this place! Management does not keep their promises. When I signed the lease, they told me there would be a chef giving cooking classes every two weeks, NEVER HAPPENED! They told me there would be free snacks, cokes, water and coffee at the business center, so we could get anything we wanted while we were there or at the pool, YOU ARE LUCKY IF THERE IS WATER, most of the time there is nothing at all. They told me there was a printer in the business center for residents to use, not once I have been able to use it, since it is always out of paper or ink. Besides all this, the apartment is just made of cheap materials, you can hear your next door neighbors talking as if they were in your apartment. I have no idea how, but I can smell my neighbor's cooking in my bathroom! Not to mention that parking is just bad.

Great Property
The Alexan Silber has been a great property. It has all the amenities one could want in a living environment. The Office is staff is one of the most helpful and professional I have ever come across. I would recommend this proerty highly to anyone who wants live near the Galleria and new Washington Ave.

Very Helpful Management
I resided at this complex for 14 months and was pleased with the experience. I was particularly happy with the helpful office management who helped us through a couple of concerns that we encountered including problems with parking and our move-out statement. The management was professional and curtious in helping us through our concerns and were extremely committed to achieving a very fair outcome. All members of the management team were continually pleasant, professional, and good consumer advocates even during some trying concerns. Having a helpful management team on your side can make a big difference in a leasing experience!

Do not rent here!!
Bad construction, you can see the wall and floor on the halls of the third floor with huge cracks, paper thin walls, cheap laminate floor that gets scratched easily, horrible parking, not safe, (the TV on the Gym was stolen twise, so they decided not to put a new one), if you have a pet expect to pay a huge amount of money even if the pet makes no damage to the apartment, we spent a whole day cleaning every inch of the apartment, and left it in perfect conditions, our dog is house broken and very well trained, but they told us that even if the carpet was not damaged at all, they had to replace it because we had a pet, and we had to pay for it "only $390" for a one bedrooom carpet!! I feel ripped off because we really took care of the apartment, we used different products to protect the laminate floor, so they could not say anything about it, but one our neighbors did not have the time to apply a special product and they charged him a huge amount of money for it. I sincerely regret living there.

Great Place
I read some of these reviews on here and I have never experienced any of these issues. This location is great - especially if you work in downtown. It is close to everything - grocery stores, Washington Ave, The Galleria, ETC... Parking is not as bad as what people have stated on here. I have always been able to find a parking spot. Even if it is not on my floor, they have elevators. The maint. has been great and the staff has always been extremely kind and helpful. They have events in the office from time to time where I have met a couple of neighbors. The noises I hear in the hallway or from my upstaris neighbor are nothing that I have not experienced at other places and have not bothered me at all. If you are looking for a convenient location and a good apartment, you should atleast check it out. I will be renewing my lease when it is up.

DO NOT MOVE HERE !!!!! I AM NOT JOKING
This apartment looks good but the following list will make this apartment look very bad!!!!!!!! If I took this much time to wirte this, I think most people should know I am not joking. The maintenance was the only good thing about this apartment because of ---- the head maintenance guy, he is very fast on getting order done. I will NOT recommend anyone (even my enemy) to live here. 1. 3 apartments got broken into in a year. 2. Parking (someone hit my car and not even a note) 3. Assigned parking (there are about 10 at each level and after that good luck on finding a parking spot). Guess parking on the 5th floor but really residents park up there because guesses are not. It took them 14 months to finally got parking premit for residents. 4. Gate does not work from time to time. 5. Grill never have gas (I lived there for 14 months, not once I get to use the grill because of it) 6. Refrigator only has water in the office (when I sign the lease, it was promise to me that it will fill with different drinks and snack) 7. Pool area (every weekend there are parties and beer at the pool and LOUD music) 8. When you move out, DO NOT EXPECT to get any money back but EXPECT to pay more. 9. Even you have proof (pictures) to proof your apartment was clean when you move out, ---- and Ninfas will tell you different stories to keep your deposit. 10. Good luck if you live on the first floor if your unstair residents likes to when high heels and like to fight with boyfriends at 2, 3am in the morning. The last four months was hell for me. Loud noise will start at 11pm and will not stop until 3, 4am in the morning. Apartment did not do anything about it because all they said was to call the police. 11. Pet wastes are everywhere because not many pick up around their pets, I walked through the hall way one day and pet waste was there.

I have lived here for 1 year and have really enjoyed it. Its close downtown where I work, close to Washington Ave, and several grocery stores. I read some of the complaints people have on here, and I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary for apartment living. The staff has always been kind and the maintenance staff responded quickly to my one issue. The few events that I have made in the office have been fun. Overall, if you are looking for something in this area, I would recommend it. Oh - I have never had an issue finding a parking space and I dont pay for a reserved spot.

Great location not the best apartments though
I've lived here for about 6 months and altogether it's not too bad. For cons, I want to focus on things that you would not know until moving here...if it's something I knew about before moving in I don't consider it a con. I'll start with some bullet points and expand on each below that if you want to know more. Pros 1. Location is perfect for me. 1. Nice apartment not bad construction 3. Staff friendly and problem free for me Cons 1. Parking garage is horribly designed and the reserved spots are a greedy way for management to squeeze more money out of you. 2. Apartments are poorly insulated and very hot on the 4th floor. 3. Gates to enter apartment on foot are deactivated and you must walk in the main gates with the cars. 4. Trash fee is not $25 a month - they charge you an additional amount for billing so it's usually around $26. 5. Greystar built on every square inch of this land that they could there is essentially no place to walk inside the community. 6. Apartment lighting not easy to replace with energy efficient bulbs Expanded details Pros 1. The location of this complex is perfect for me. Working in the Galleria area I can get there easily and quick at any time of day and can access any of the major freeways (except I-45) in about 5 minutes. You don't have to deal with constant traffic like you would living closer to downtown or off of 610 somewhere. 2. Quality of the apartment is pretty good. The wood floors are nice and the maintenance staff is quick to show up when you report a problem. I am on the 4th floor so can't comment on footsteps from above but the walls don't seem to be as thin as many other ocmplexes i've lived in. I have one neighbor who is a moron and seems to come in every night at 10PM and jump up and down for 20 minutes so you can hear the person next to you if they are as inconsiderate as this person. 3. I've always been treated well by the staff here even though they seem to be changing like the weather lately. I'm not sure if any of the people who worked here except for Harvey are still around but nonetheless they have always been good to me. Cons 1. As stated in other reviews the parking garage is horribly constructed. The entrance is essentially one way but they expect two cars to fit. Recently they started a $25 per month for getting a reserved parking space near the doors. This took away all the good parking spots and has forced the 4th floor which was previously empty to become filled and people to park on the uncovered 5th floor. This is an attempt to squeeze more money out of residents and not only that they have to this date May 14, 2010 not even sent out a letter explaining to residents about the reserved parking policy. The only way I know is by going to the office and asking about it. You would think that if they want to start something new like this they would at least explain to residents but apparently not. It is nice that they have finally started to institute towing since many people parking in handicapped spots are perfectly normal and deserve to be towed. 2. On the 4th floor the apartments are very poorly insulated from the roof my apartment is like a sauna. Even when it was 19 degrees out this winter the temperature in my unit never went below 70 degrees. I just took an infrared thermometer to the hallway on the lower floors and they are all 10 degrees cooler than the 4th floor even the 3rd floor. My air conditioning runs almost nonstop set on 80 degrees and it is only in the mid 80s outside with no sunshine, I hate to know what my electric bill will be when it is 100 out. If you rent here do NOT get a 4th floor apartment unless you want to have an outrageous electric bill. 3. This area is great to go out running or bike riding but all of the walk in gates on this complex are deactivated. You can only get out of them even though there is a pinpad that should allow you to enter from outside. This means you have to walk in the main gates with the cars and try not to get run over in the process. There is no reason for this considering the walls are only about 6 feet high and can be jumped in less than 2 seconds by a criminal wanting inside. 4. I knew about the $25 a month trash fee when moving in and accepted it as stupid as it is. Unfortunately they also charge you a billing fee for it which bumps it up to around $26 a month. This was not clear in their lease details and I consider it BS. 5. There is basically no place to walk around inside the complex. Greystar built to every single square inch of this place that they could to squeeze out a profit. All the grass that is here is covered in dog crap unfortunately which I consider a negative on the caliber of residents because that is not managements fault. 6. The lighting in my unit consists of various fixtures and track lighting all of which use a non standard bulb. The bulbs in the unit are extremely dim when you move in and I honestly thought my walls were white until I replace the bulbs and realized they are an off yellow once I could actually see them. If you are replacing the bulbs with CFL's or LED's you will have a hard time doing so. There is no CFL bulb made that is a direct replacement for the track lighting bulbs here and as a tip I used an R30 CFL bulb with cable tie holding it to the fixture to make it work in my unit. Altogether, when my lease is up i'll probably leave this place and go elsewhere that is better insulated but hopefully near this location because I love living in ths area.

Horrible Parking, Poor Management
Management in this apartment complex cares about one thing--how to nickle and dime you for more money. We are charged $25 per month for trash. Recently, they have instituted reserved parking for $25 per month. I do not recommend this apartment complex.

Think before you lease
This place is pretty...pretty awful. It's not secure. We saw a car sitting the ground one morning. All four tires had been removed. The managment is very ineffective and does not deal with resident problems very well. I cannot wait to move out of this place. Moving here was a bad decision. I was blinded by the exterior and office decorating into thinking that this place would be satisfactory. It is not. Unlike the previous comment made, I think that the walls are so thin that you can hear someone sneeze. Also, the last comment was dead on. If you live by the pool, be prepared to stay up night after night due to excessive noise. There is no security at this property and the courtesy patrol is a joke. People wait at the gate until you open it and then they drive right in. I have seen people walking thru with cases of beer asking where the pool is. YOu can report issue to management multiple times and half the time you don't even get a follow up phone call.

Multiple Break Ins--NOT SAFE!
Need I say more. We moved in last Summer and about a month after move in our truck was broken into and the radio was stolen. Then last month our front door was busted in and they stole everything of value and trashed the place...talk about feeling violated. Also, after speaking with just a handful of other residences we have found out that we are not the only ones. Management did not handle the situation well at all. Their one and only concern is that they not be held liable for the damages. Please understand that this apt is right across the highway from a rough part of Houston and it is very visable to those who want to steal from you. Also, it is extremely accesable to those who shouldn't be here. All they have to do is wait for the gate to open and they complete access to the property. If you do choose to live here DO NOT choose a pool view because there are constant parties and the people moving in here are getting worse and worse. We have been looking for apartments in the Galleria area, Memorial Heights, and kirby area and every single property we have seen has much more security in place. Please think about spending the extra money on a place that has more security...it is worth it in the end.

Unhappy Resident
Obviously the 4/10 review was written by the manager or asst manager of this property to boost the ratings. Don't be fooled. This property is a high priced disappointment. It is the most poorly constructed place that I have every lived in. The management makes rules but never enforces anything. The previous reviewer (staff) stated that there are parking areas that have been converted to fire zones but if you drive up any day, guess what you will see? Multiple cars parked there and nothing is done about it. There is frequently a line to drive through the complex b/c you have to wait for ongoing drivers to pass before you can go by. The property is definitely a nice looking place but it is a huge disappointment to live in. I am counting down the days until I leave. The reviewed dated 3/10 was totally correct. There are more pet parties than resident functions. So much has changed since this place opened. I basically consider the leasing practices here as fraud. They tell you about all of the great things that Alexan Silber has to offer and you sign a lease then poof..it all disappears. Parking is a total joke. They say that you are required to park on the floor you live on but that is not enforced. Basically everyone parks on the first or second floor so if you live on either of these floors, you are forced to hike one or two floors to your apartment. Lastly, the property does not allow you to enter through the walk up gates so when you go grocery shopping, be prepared to steal a shopping cart to push your things to your house or you will need to make 5 trips which is a total joke. You can easily find something more affordable with better constuction and more square footage.

Overall Great Apt
I have lived here for almost a year. My roommate and I were one of the first people in the complex and they have made several changes, for the better, as the residency has grown. People used to be able to park along the road to the garage, which would cause traffic, but now they have made it a fire line. Parking in the garage is pretty crowded and if you are not parked by 7:30 you will have to park on the top level. The garage does have surveillance. They have just recently, made premium parking (witch you will pay for, bit don t have to have). These sports are the closest to the door and located on all 4 floors. I think they are about $25.00 extra a month. They also have free dog poop pick up (cant believe this one, and how inconsiderate some people are) One thing I do not like it the trash fee. You pay $25.00 a month (mandatory) for trash collection. I would rather have the option, but realize it is not feasible. They are supposed to be offering dry cleaning pickup and drop off some time soon (at a price of course). As far as the free snacks .they did offer them at first but I could image that it was a big cost to keep the fridge stocked. They do have free bottle water. They also have a game room with free Golden Tee, and arcade games. There is also a pool table and a smaller shuffle board table .oh yeah and a poker room. All of these have huge flat screen TV s in them if you wanted to hold a viewing party. The apts, themselves are top notch. Wood floors, granite counter tops, nice appliances. I agree with some of the reviews that you can hear the person above you take ever little step, but what do you expect when you have wood floors. Either live on the top floor or deal with it, as I do. The apt defiantly makes up for the noise that you can hear. You do pay a little more for every floor you move up and for pool view and corner lots. These are premium locations, within the complex, so it is not unexpected, a lot of apts do that. The pool is amazing and the people are for the most part friendly. The workout facilities are the best I have encountered in my apt living. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to do what is right for there residence. For example, when we moved in they mistakenly put us in a 1 bed room (not totally there fault as the chart they had listing all the rooms showed it to be a 2 bed room). They gave us a corner lot, with a pool view and on the 3rd floor for the same price we would have paid for a 2nd floor non-pool view middle lot. The bad things people list are common among all apt complexes, this one is no different, but they are different in the amenities and quality of apts they offer. One last thing .location great location!!! Since it is just outside the loop it is less expensive than its counterparts inside the loop. It is less than 5 miles from Washington St(about a $10.00 tax ride), Memorial City mall is 5 minutes down the highway, the Galleria is about 10 minutes away, and the best pizza place in Houston is located right around the corner.

Disappointment
This property is all about pets jumping in elevators, hallways, and even inside the amenities. The staff even hosts pet parties where I've seen pets jumping in the lounge, couches, and office! Needless to say the staff started eliminating breakfasts, parties, and events for residents, yet they still throw parties for pets! What the heck? My pet doesn't need a party, we residents who pays a big chunk of cash every month want to see a payback! As the previous commenter said; the entrance to the garage is a death trap. To make things worse, a hard high bump was recently installed at entrance in an angle that allows only one car passes at a time, meaning that either the car coming down or going up has to back up to allow the other to pass. Now imagine backing up when there's a trail of cars waiting behind you. The construction materials are not strong enough. Cracks in the hallways floor can be seen, and I guess the construction company came back to fix. Keep in mind this is still new. Overall, I don't recommend moving in. With such a high rent, you can find better bigger units nearby. Just look around and you'll see them.

the staff is very friendly and listen well. the walls are thick enough to block most noise. i cannot speak for the ceiling, as no one lives above me. the hallways are tile, so expect to hear footsteps if you live on floor 2,3,4. the inside fixtures and amenities are very nice. i really do not have any complaints about this property other than the entrance into the parking garage is a deathtrap! and the hallway footsteps are annoying. basically, all apartments suck, but silber passes the test.

Dissatisfied Resident
Alexan Silber is a beautiful community but don't let the cover of this book fool you. I have lived here since last summer and I can't wait to move. Let me first start by saying that the walls, floors, and ceilings are paper thin. You can hear everything that goes on in the surronding units. I am not sure what genius decided to put wood floor on floors 2-4 but it has proved to be a bad decision. Community Access - well our really bright management team decided to block access via combination locked gates for walk in residents to deter resident from parking in the front area of the complex. This of course means that you may not park near your unit but rather in the parking garage which requires you to make multiple long trips to your unit which is not optimal after grocery shopping or dry cleaning pickups. Lastly parking, people park anywhere including the driveways that disrupts incoming/outgoing residents. Overall this complex is like a bad gift that was wrapped beautifully. Do not move into this place unless you want to be annoyed by every single thing that you can imagine. Managments responses so far have been, "We are so sorry about that" which is not satisfactory when you are paying nearly $2K a month.

This is the second apartment that I've lived at that's managed by Greystar. The maintenance is very efficient and the office staff has been very helpful and make you feel welcome. I have already referred two friends to live here. I didn't understand the past review about rent being over-priced. You are the one who signed the lease so shame on you if it wasn't the price range you wished to stay in. You also need to compare apples to apples...these apartments are LUXURY and location is everything! Read more: http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate?a=r&complex_id=713681449777024#ixzz0a40B2kPW
