like it alot
My husband and I moved into The Loft in December 2007. We have had really good luck so far. We have had some hiccups and the staff has really been generous to us as well as very patient. We have had to call for routine maintenance twice both times were for nothing major and after reading some of these posts, I was curious as to what type of service we would receive. I am happy to report it was same day turnaround. We also live close to the pool and have had a couple of loud incidents that were taken care of immediately and did not feel ill at ease at all. It has been quite a transition to come from a 2 acre home to a 2 bedroom apartment but we have enjoyed the service at The Loft and can't really complain

very unique layouts
the thing that sold me on the place was the large open room. Staff is nice enough. The Price is right!

We would just like to say that we've been here since May 1st and we find the complex to be such a wonderful place to live. We have a 2 bedroom/first floor on the south side along the tree line, our electrical bills have been runnng at $135/month. We take a nightly walk and the complex is always quiet and peaceful. The folks we come across on our walks are alway pleasant.

Not the staff-- real person
As far as apartments go, it is a nice place. I have lived in two units and like both quite well. As far as staff, everyone seems friendly and outgoing, willing to help. Maintenance keeps up very well and they do well to get onto issues as soon as possible. I'd say its a good place to live. All in all, I am happy with The Loft as the best apartment complex I have lived in and know of.

My personal opinion
I recently moved to St.Louis, but enjoyed my stay at the The Loft. I dont get the bad reviews as I think the service, the management and my experience was FANTASTIC, not perfect, but is there such a thing ' Thanks.

Just helping out
I look at these apt twice. The good thing I can say about them is there spacious (probably cuz there old) And they have a good price and good location. The bad I don t like about them. Is not just b/c there old is b/c it shows that there old. I seen a couple roaches crawling just by only view the apt which let me know there will be more. I never lived here but just helping out any one considering moving here. Am not saying not to just letting you know all to look into. Short term lease should not be bad. But I would not do 2 yrs. As they say you get what u pay for.

Look elsewhere.
I recently moved out of the Loft. What follows are my grievances regarding the place: * I didn't have so much a problem with roaches as with mice. I encountered at least 12 mice during my 2-year stay. Despite maintenance coming by and plugging up all the holes, they still managed to get in. * Noise is a SERIOUS PROBLEM. The insulation in the units isn't all it's cracked up to be, and the ancient sliding glass doors and insulation do permit most loud noises to enter into the unit. This may not be a problem in the units not facing the parking lot, but don't dare try to get a unit facing the parking lot because you will hear almost everything. * Neighbors are disrespectful. I had one neighbor that I really liked; other than that, most of them tend to be either extremely vocal outdoors, even late at night, and a number of them drive very noisy cars. Management had been notified about this a repeated number of times, and nothing was ever done, despite my having signed a good neighbor policy regarding noise when I signed in. I actually saw the child of one neighbor who was moving out get into the moving van and undo the brake and slam it into another tenant's vehicle; the mother ran out to the van, backed it up, and tried to pretend like nothing happened. If I hadn't reported it, nobody would have known what happened. It's just far too hoorangy. * The delapidated insulation and ancient HVAC systems in the units cause utility bills to be much higher than they should be. Expect to pay Progress Energy about $150-$200 per month in the middle of winter unless you enjoy dressing like an Eskimo. * Management is indifferent to the problems I found most important. They refused to address the really noisy neighbor who deliberately modified his exhaust system to be unnecessarily loud (this same neighbor ended up getting arrested at some point for who knows what). They also tend to make most issues out to be the tenant's fault, and they have no reservations about talking about the tenant's issue in front of maintenance, other tenants, prospective tenants, whomever. * Safety was wanting. I have actually seen gangs (in excess of 20 people) wonder through the property late at night or early in the morning. * Management had problems with my yearly lease the first time I renewed, and thought for about two months that I was month-to-month. I learned to get receipts for all rent payments and to keep copies of everything. * Rent consistently increased from year to year, despite the fact that I felt the units weren't worth it. Overall, I did not enjoy my tenure there, and would not recommend it. There are decent places in Raleigh; some of my friends have highly recommended Wildwoods of Lake Johnson, and having been over a few times, I wish I had gone with them instead.

HORRIBLE!!! MICE, ROACHES, CRIME - DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!
We thought moving to the Loft would be great, lower rent, pretty good area, well THAT IT NOT THE CASE!! Although they are nice inside to a certain extent, the management is terrible - they are nice when they get you in, and they are pretty good at making service calls on things that are urgent - but forget the property itself. They do not do upkeep other than the area near the office. The building we were in had roaches the entire time I was there. The backyard was nothing but a HOLE - people through garbage, dog poop. People left their garage on the back porch, let their dogs urniate on the wood deck - it smelled in the hot weather. No matter how nice we would try to make it, it was aweful and NO one would listen. We contacted AIMCO and they never helped at all - they are basically worthless. The Regional Manager ------------- was worse than the Manager at the Loft. He allowed the Manager to charge us for things that weren't even happening. We had a pet in the house for a week and they charged us $300 for pet fee's. The neighbor had the same issue. They threaten eviction unless its paid - so they know what they are doing. They are scammers - BE CAREFUL!! Bottom line, DONT move in. Look up: http://apps.newsobserver.com/know/crime/index.php?action=showresults&latLow=35.856648346717186&latHigh=35.860561252819686&longLow=-78.64571571350097&longHigh=-78.63874197006225 enter in the address of the Loft and see how bad the crime is. Its like living in DURHAM!! They don't care....they allow it! I have correspondence to back up everything I am saying here. We could not live there another minute, it was so terrible!!! Ask me, I'll show you everything I have - be careful of that place...its a crime ridden HOLE!!

take you money somewhere else
I live here now I am waiting till my lease is up-- I like the layout and its alot of space for the price. BUT roaches, mice, high utility bills year round $185 in summer $295 in winter ( 70 degrees), Twice a major pipe broke and the building had no water. I have done what progress energy says -- The problem is the closets/attic/crawl space all don't have insulation. Open the closet in the winter and you can feel a cold breeze The office has been thru 4 manager since I moved in last march --Oh and guess what my rent is going up too

Think Twice
We were in love with the layout of the apartment and all the space when we first moved in, who wouldn't be? This was October of last year. Then the weather started to get cold, as well as our downstairs. And it has never been warm since. The a/c system is designed very poorly for the layout of this apartment. Except in milder months, your upstairs will be hot and your downstairs will be cold, no matter what you're telling the a/c to do. On top of that we've had $240-$300 electric bills on several occasions. I know people that heat whole houses for half that! We've also had problems with mice... luckily we have cats that like to play! But I've never lived in another apartment that had mice, and I can't figure out where they're coming from! Aside from all of that, the leasing agents and maintenance workers are all very nice and are quick to fix any maintenance problems you may have. Unfortunately, the above mentioned problems are enough that we're moving again at the end of our lease.

It's okay
I love the layout of the whole apartment. But I do admit that we have had a roach problem. We just moved there two weeks ago and we have already seen like 3 roaches. And they are huge. Also one of them had a sack of eggs. Other than that, I really like the apartment. The downstairs is a little cramped. But the upstairs is great. High ceilings make the place look nicer. But if you paint and everything it will make the apartment look a lot newer even though they are almost 35 years old. I'm not sure that I would renew my lease after this one ran up. Happy hunting!

Nice place to live
I moved here at the end of May and love my spacious apartment! We are right by Optimist Park and Shelly Lake, which is great since I have children. The staff is very accomadating and if I ever have any maintanence issues, they resolve them quickly. I would gladly tell someone to move here.

JUST ONE LOOK..........
thats all it took. To many people wondering around, children running around everywhere, I found the lease consultants to be rude and short. There is a "corner store" I work in that area and all you see is people walking back and forth like they have no jobs (mayby they don't)for those of you that do and live there great now find some where else to live you know you want to. It is a traffic disaster in the mornings, I allways see people waiting for the grace of God to get on to Six Forks. I usually do a night time drive through before considering an apartment to see if poeple are walking around, check for loud cars or gatherings in the parking lot but so many poeple are running around in the day I am afraid to see what it would be like at night. Another thing assigned parking is STUPID it just is. So far this is the only place in north ralegh that has assigned parking, to my knowledge. Happy serching people!!

Poor management, maintenance & neighbors
Get everything in writing when dealing with management, especially Nick L...Maintenance can't seem to fix it right the first time and will need to come out 2 or three more times for something simple.

Also, when you go into the management office to discuss something, maintenance is always sitting in there and WILL NOT leave in order for tenants to discuss personal issues ( rent amount, lease terms, etc.) with management. Unless you stop them, management will talk about your personal business in front of whomever is in the office. They have no respect for tenants or professionalism.

Lastly, neighbors will park in your assigned space, let their guests park in your space, throw trash on the grounds, and sit their trash outside their door instead of taking it to the dumpster.

roaches, roaches everywhere, everyday....
Me and my spouse just recently moved here, and we did a walk through in the apartment, guess what??? ROACHES! I could not believe it..I am afraid to stay here in the summer, I haven't seen a roach in 20 years in the other AIMCO apartments. This is frightening...I did get some boric acid, and puffed the shelves, baseboards etc. I never seen a "wood roach" before. But the manager said, "I am not going to lie, we do have them". So, I don't have long to stay here, but I am going to do what I can... and run like HELL.... to get out of here when the lease is up. The heating is very bad... downstairs is like a refrigerator .. upstairs stays warm. The property needs to be updated as far as sliding patio doors. Everytime I open the patio screen, it slids off the track. go around the property and you will seen many a patio screen door laying against the wall, to be put back on track by the maintenance staff. I rented from various aimco apartments for 4 1/2 years, NEVER have a problem with "bugs". That is my main pet peeve. But I will do an extensive check such as this online website before I move again....This may be the last AIMCO property I live on.

I'll miss The Loft
I lived here for two years with two roommates and have honestly found this to be the best place I've ever lived. Our rent only went up a few bucks when we renewed last year. We had a few problems with our heat not working last winter and as soon as we called in about it, there was a guy there working on it (the next day I if I remember correctly) and never had any problems with it again.

Fantastic Community!!! - Would buy a unit if we could!
My husband and I have lived at The Loft for 2 years, and would live here forever if we could buy one of the units!
We wanted a safe, quiet, well maintained community that was pet friendly and reasonably priced. The Loft delivered all that and more. We have never had to wait more than 24 hours for ANY maintenance issue (there have only been 3) to be corrected, which is great! The apartments are well insulated both from sound and weather.(Apart from the hottest and coldest months of the year, our power bill has been under $120 a month, which is fantastic considering that we're the couple who leaves all the lights on!)
We have NEVER had a bug problem here either, and with all the big trees around the property, that's saying a lot. As far as safety, we've left our apartment door unlocked all day for MONTHS, and NOTHING has happened to our apartment.
The management has gone above and beyond for us as well, with VERY competitive rent and appliance contracts.
We have been so impressed here that we've convinced 4 friends to rent here as well, and they're all happy too.
The apartments are being renovated right now, with a new parking lot and even better insulation, so we're looking forward to another great year!

left the area, but i miss the lofts
i lived in teh lofts for a little less than a year. the only problem i had was that the air conditioning was hard to predict with a two floor apartment. one was always cold, the other hot. i never had a single problem with the staff....this was the ONLY complex where i've actually come by in the morning, just to get a cup of coffee and talk to the staff, repairguys. i thought they were pretty cool. when i got my motorcycle, they were very lenient about me parking on the sidewalk. yeah, somebody will probably ----- them out for LETTING me do that, but i was happy to know that my bike was never out of sight, and the staff never gave me any grief. i left the sixforksmillbrook area to move closer to work, and i wish my current staff was as nice. also, for the rent, this was the largest square footage i could find for under 700 a month. not bad......

Pretty Nice for the Price
I've lived here for the past year and it really is great. The living room/dining room area is larger then I could ask for, with great kitchen size and the bedrooms are nicely located downstairs, which was odd at first when I came here.
The Office is great - I went away for a week and they kept an eye on my apt. by putting a note inside my apt. everyday to let me know they checked on it and Michele fed my cat too.
My packages are always delivered to a safe place the office and the maintenance is great - they both are always willing to help with anything. Parking is a little tight at times and the electric is a little high at certain times of the year, but nothing beats the life of town home living.
I personally have had no problems with living here, oh and since they have put the new parking lots down, it's looking so clean and fresh and the foam insulation has helped too with the electric.

rude management and old apartment make you despaired.
Yes, it's multi-level as the manager michel tells you when you go to question why you get $200 bill in the cold or hot for electricity. When I lived here, I see my neighbours move out frequently . later, I finally find out the answers.

You could live in a smoke apartment if your neighbour smoke. You could get drowned by paint done after your neighbour left. You will listen cleary as your neighbour made a early talk by your bed. You got to be ready to share.

Michel will make worse if you went there for any help or answer. Everything is your responsiblity. Of course, why you choose a cheap one without asking why they are cheap?

Now, michel is telling you have to pay high bill if you want to enjoy multi-level apartment. However, on site they are adding insulation. Maybe you can try after it's done and Michel is gone.

Believe me, the management there is not for resolving problems, but to make your life stressful.

Oh, Don't choose the lower area of the apartments. You will get flooding and try no help.

HORRIBLE
The apartments themselves are falling apart. Cars are constantly broken into - if you're lucky they'll just take your stereo - if not you'll need to find a new car. High cost for electric (you'll be paying for the outside lights which are constantly on).

THEFT PROBLEMS
A week after my boyfriend and I moved in his car was stolen. Not 5 months later his stereo was stolen. Mine was also broken into and some neighbors cars were also broken into. The office has done nothing to try to stop or find out why it has happened so often. They put out a notice of the theft a few months sfter and told the community that it had only happened once and was not a problem, YEAH RIGHT!!
Find something else.

Poor maintenance and unsafe
The entire 9 months I was there I could hear a leak in the pipes in the upstairs bathroom, and said leak caused dripping from the ceiling in the kitchen below. I reported it several times and all they did was try to patch the kitchen ceiling! Eventually it was completely rotted and caved in.
My back porch was dark and isolated and I had a peeping tom who attempted to break in when I was home. Also witnessed a burglary next door. The peephole in my door was painted over.
When my kitchen ceiling caved in I moved out, but they wouldn't let me out of my lease and I had to pay out the final three months even though I couldn't live there.
