very high electric bills and a lot of roaches
The apartments are not well insulated, and very hard to heat in the winter. If you get the downstairs comfortable, the upstairs will be too hot. If the upstairs is comfortable, the downstairs is freezing. I put plastic over my windows, but that didn't help much. My electric bill has never been less than $200 in the winter months, so be prepared.

Roaches are a killer here. I see them in my apartment EVERY DAY, despite extermination attempts.

Unsatisfactory
Ive been here for almost two years. When we first moved in we loved the open floorplan and vaulted ceilings and the manager was the nicest guy in the world.
A month later he left.
His replacement left two months later.
I'd say in the last two years we've had at least 7 or 8 staff changes. Some have been rude, some have been great, but it never mattered because no one ever stayed too long.
When summer rolled around we were also shocked at our electric bills...upwards of 150 in the summer AND in the winter, basically whenever you have to actually use the HVAC. And they kind of just say, "Deal with it these buildings are old." So prepare for that.
Our dishwasher has overflowed a few times and has never really worked anyway, usually stuff comes out dirtier than when it went in.
Parking is a disaster, there is only one spot assigned per apartment and often people just park in your spot anyway because management does nothing about it. So if you ever expect a visitor or theres more than one person living in your apartment, prepare to do some walking...alone...at night.
I think the walls are made of rice paper because I can hear my neighbor brushing her teeth.
We haven't had much of a bug problem, but I do know that alot of our neighbors have and I definitely have seen some monsters wandering around outside in the hall.
This is the ------ ultimate though, one night at about 3am I was woken up by a strange clicking sound in my room, after wandering around a minute I went into my bathroom and discovered water dripping from my ceiling. This drip quickly increased to a fairly steady stream and flooded my bathroom. Most of my toiletries and my bathrugs were ruined. Turns out that the water heater directly above had sprung a leak and flooded everywhere and was slowly sinking through my bathroom ceiling. I wonder if I wasn't such a light sleeper if the thing would have just crashed right on through.
I called emergency maintenance and he was there within an hour, which was still not soon enough, and they ended up fixing it..sort of...they kind of just plastered over the spot in the ceiling, which still bulges ominously.
The maintenance guys are definitely nice, and they are the only ones who have stuck around, but they really aren't worth all the other stuff we've had to deal with.
When my lease is up, Im out.
Don't do it!
I have lived in these apartments for almost 2 years and the only reason I have stayed that long is because it is so convenient to my job, but even that will not keep me here when my lease expires next time. Let’s see, here we go……

The management changed earlier this year, but this group is just as bad as the last. The new manager, Michelle, is both rude and unhelpful. Don’t be fooled into thinking she is nice – she just wants you to sign that lease.

Can you say roaches? They are very bad here. My apartment was exterminated less than 3 weeks ago and just this morning I opened up my pantry door to find a monster of a cockroach crawling across some spices.

Your rent will go up every time your lease expires. My rent has gone up 3 times in the last 1 ½ years. When I complained about the rent going up twice in six months, I was told by the manager that I opened myself up for it by signing a six months lease instead of a whole year. Hello! That’s like saying “if you give us the chance to screw you, we will”. Expect a $10-$20 increase each time. Oh, and there’s a $400.00 pet deposit.

Also, they will begin charging for water/ sewer/ trash removal starting in January. Be sure to add on this expense when considering costs. A handout was recently left on resident’s doors saying something like “Now you will have control over your water usage and how much it costs”. OK, do I have the word s-t-u-p-i-d written across my forehead? Residents had control over their usage before and the cost was $0.00!!!

Crime –there have been several car break ins that I am aware of. I had one neighbor who got into a fight with his girlfriend and was out in the parking lot shouting and waving a gun around. Another night about 3 months ago, I came home and the police had someone in the parking lot questioning them. The recent shooting at the Southpoint Mall – yep, the murderer lived here.

The only good thing I can say about these apartments is the maintenance staff is usually prompt with repairs. Other than that, it pretty much sucks! Three words of advice – Don’t do it!
Don't jump!
The individual who wrote the below review seems to be management in sheeps clothing. I COULD be wrong.

I lived at this complex for one year.

Some of the problems I had:
Insects. Between the spiders and roaches I was in continual cleaning mode. I thought it was me until neighbors informed me I wasn't insane.

Flooding: The apartmens with lower elevation throughout the complex have not (never?) been sealed against water. Water damage is the norm in lower elevation units. Renovation to solve this problem in MANY units? You DO have a sense of humor!

Residents: One neighbor had a psychotic ex-girlfriend (he told me "she's a psychotic ex-girlfriend) who left "love letters" on his truck's front window ... in lipstick. The notes weren't too nice either.

There was also the man who walked out of his apartment after a nasty argument with somone. The man came out of his unit brandishing a gun while having a small child holding his hand while walking through the complex. He wasn't in the best of mooods it seemed so I left the sunshine on my balcony for the lower depths of the unit (aka "the meat locker").

The stripper in the window. I don't know. I don't want to know and at this point it's not even important... just really funny.

Staff: Cindy's quite rude. So is her counter part. The current manager Kevin, seems to be accomodating. The previously mentined staff members in the front office could be a lot less acrid toward residents.

About the lower floor in the 2 & 3 floor units: They are NOT "cooler." The lower level is FREEZING in the winter no matter how high the heatis cranked. The insullation at this apartment complex blows. Be prepared for $175 - $250 electricity bills.

Granted the maintainence is quick but it still doesn't make up for the other problems with this complex.

I do not reccommend this place unless you are a student looking for cheap, large digs, in north Raleigh.

Oh and to their credit, they did give back a bit of my deposit.

----------------------------------------<br place to live
>>>From: 207unit59
>>>Date posted: 2/19/2004
>>>Years at this apartment: 2002-2004
>>>I've lived at The Loft for almost two years and have had a great experience with the management and living conditions. The lower level is cooler, but not any different than any two level structure. The rooms are spacious and The Loft is one of few apartment complexes where there are lots of trees!! If you call for any kind of maintenance issue, the response time is minimal and they are always happy to help you. <<<
Very discriminating
I'm a very positive person who likes to see the glass half full. After meeting the staff at the lofts, Ive come to the conclusion that they really just dont care about there tenants. I spent so much money getting in and out of there, it left me broke. The aprtment have bugs and they dont exterminate and water flows into the bottom floor when it rains---there is alot of water damage--which leads to mold. One day I came home to find my door left open when I called, ----- told me that maintenance had fixed my dishwasher and must have left it open--he then told me that I was over reacting at the security issue. If I could just help one person to not make a mistake by signing a lease than my experience was worth it

Great place to live
I´ve lived at The Loft for almost two years and have had a great experience with the management and living conditions. The lower level is cooler, but not any different than any two level structure. The rooms are spacious and The Loft is one of few apartment complexes where there are lots of trees!! Horrible management and terrible maintenance!
I moved to the loft in July of 2003 when it was extremely hot. I noticed that the bottom floor was always cool, but the top floor was so hot that you couldn´t cook in the apartment. I notified management on 5 different occasions, but each time they just came out and put duct tape on the air conditioning unit that appears to be SEVERAL years old. In addition, I felt like I lived outside with the terrible experiences I had with insects, mainly cricket spiders. In addition, the bottom floor always flooded. This is the worst apartment I´ve ever lived in.

Flooding Problems
I lived in this apt complex from May of 2002-February of 2003. We moved because the bedroom on the bottom floor flooded FIVE TIMES. They never replaced the carpet, they only dried it out. Mold began to grow underneath the carpet and we stayed sick with colds all the time. We really only thought it was the time of year, but since we´ve moved from there, we haven´t had any problems. The only good thing about the apartment complex was the fact that they let us out of our lease early and gave us our deposit back. However, I believe the only reason they did that is because I threatened to get the health department involved.

Lots of room and great service!
I live at the Loft currently and I love it. The apartments are unique, like townhomes, really, with lots of space. And the maintenance staff is quick to fix any problems that pop up. Plus, the people in the office always wear a smile and genuinely seem to care about our concerns. I highly recommend this community!
