Horrible Place to Live- management is horrible
I moved in there early 2007- and luckily got transferred and had to move out early this year. The cleaning staff is very helpful, and will try and go out of their way for you. The management team however, some of the rudest people I have ever met, and I am a lawyer. Overall my experience was horrible. They lost my rent check at least once every other month, and of course then it was my fault. When I explained to them, that we were taking pay cuts, and if it would be possible for me to split my rent check and give two checks during the month, they laughed in my face saying that is not their issue. Overall, not helpful and just a horrible experience, it looks great from the outside, but once you are in, it's crap. Apartment is huge, but it does not make up for the curry smelling hallways, and sweat ridden gym, and let's not forget the bug ridden apartments.

A reason why no good reviews in over a year...
Read and review your lease before you sign. This place is infested with bed bugs. When you call to have them spray, you are put on a waiting list because the company already has too many places to treat that week. You are supposed to wash your clothes in hot water then, but the machines in the basement do not supply hot water. I even found a bug in the basin down there last time. No fliers or anything are posted to tenants on how to eliminate this problem as a community. Cited by the health department. Management never returns phone calls once you sign the lease. They simply expect that you will call them back if you still have a question or problem. I do understand that a new manager has been hired within the last month though. Thank the Lord! The whole place smells awful. The parking garage is musty, the walkway to the apartment from the garage smells of week old trash and Chinese food, the lobby is a car air-freshener and the hallways are always tainted with ethnic food. I have never been able to play putt-putt, tennis or swim in the pool as these facilities have always been un-useable or disgusting. The place is very noisy with the RTA, slamming of apartment doors, rowdy college students and seemingly weekly 2am fire alarms. Quality of the apartments is questionable. My shower has a recurring leak, the cabinets never close properly, the windows leak air and shouldn't be opened since they don't have screens. The parking garage is never well-lit, often under water on the lower level and has paint falling from the ceiling onto your vehicle. I have never had a problem with the maintenance staff though. Things were always 'fixed' that day or the following, and nothing was every stolen from my apartment.

The bugs live here, but don't pay rent...
I have lived in this building since late 2008. You will immediately realize that the biggest selling point in this building, are the residents; certainly some of the nicest, friendliest people you could hope to meet. The downfalls are vast. There are cockroaches everywhere, including common areas. Occassionally, I will discover a few subletting my apartment, but they do not pay rent. It is also common to see furniture left abandoned in the service elevator rooms on each floor. A good chance to pick up some Ikea on the cheap? Cuidado mi amigo! Those are infested with bedbugs. Yes, the building allows people to discard abandoned and infested furniture in these rooms. I have personally seen the bedbugs crawling on this furniture. We are not talking a few days, we are talking months. (Ex: Tonight, I personally witnessed a lovely 1980s era couch on the 8-9th floor that has been there for 8 wks minimum and I saw a bedbug crawling on it). Now I enjoy a good thrill in life, but the prospect of having my chattels overrun by blood sucking insects is not my idea of good apartment living. A friend of mine was in the elevator on Sunday and informed me that he had been infested with bedbugs. Lest you be mistaken, this was not a dirty person or unsanitary renter, he simply lived next to the ordinary ChestyResident. He was covered with scabs and sores. He hadn't slept in days and planned to breach his lease post haste. I would like to say that management works hard to rectify the needs of the residents...management who? The building has gone through 3 managers in as many weeks as of today. The red haired/eyebrowed lady at the front desk needs a string that you can pull, so that she can parrot back "Its not my job, ask the office." I think I could send my apartment grievances to askjeeves.com and possibly get better results! Finally, the crown jewel of the Chesterfield--the rooftop pool. I feel like a ghostbuster chasing slimer when I jump in, it is so green. There is some kind of Roomba that is supposed to sweep the bottom, but it obviously works as hard as the rest of the staff, because there is no less than 1 inch of sediment (when bottom visible). But it is still nice to relax on one of the 2 pieces of pool furniture that are not broken (when available). In the end, I would avoid this building like the very plague you might catch from its infestation. Not worth the money for the risk, though there are some real cool people living here. P.S. If you go for a tour, ask to see the 'putting green' and 'tennis court' LOL!

If you have higher than a third world country standard of living, don't move here.
I have lived here for almost a year with my fiance and it has been horrible, I am so glad we are leaving once our lease is up. Here is a list of my complaints (I am sure others have many more, as I just read the bed bug review): 1) The water is turned off sporadically, sometimes without notice/warning. It was once turned off for 24 STRAIGHT! Can you imagine not having water for 24 hours all the while paying $600 a month? 2) The smell of a nasty cigar/cigarette comes wafting through our apartment about once a week, it smells so horrid I have to cover my face with a cloth and spray air freshener everywhere. This is suppose to be non-smoking, but obviously it's not. 3) Laundry room usually has at least three broken washers and/or dryers. It is dirty, and I almost feel like my cloths don't get clean if I put them in their disgusting machines. 4)The "rooftop" pool is a joke, and now they are charging $10 for a "pool pass" for any guests! Ten dollars?!?! What if my guest only comes once????? 5) At least one elevator is always broken. That leaves a 19 floor building with only 2 elevators...needless to say, you have to wait a loooong time for one. 6) The smell in the hallways is wretched. It is a cross between ethnic food, garbage, and B.O. I cringe just thinking about it. 7) There are 8 people living in a 2 bedroom apartments. I don't know whether they are international students or what, but they are constantly on the elevators going from floor to floor, and as I stated before, the elevators are sparse to begin with. 8) Management tries to swindle you with bait and switch scenarios. They say your rent will be one price, but when you go to sign the lease, it's another, or they add in additional fees. 9) The air-conditioning was not turned on until last week, and it we had quite a number of hot days before then. I am not sure why they waited so long...Oh yeah, because they're cheap.

This place is a DUMP!! If you are even considering it...DON'T!! Run in the opposite direction of this place. BED BUGS AND COCKROACHES EVERYWHERE!! IF YOU DON'T SEE THEM AT FIRST..DON'T WORRY THEY'LL COME!! GARBAGE LEFT EVERYWHERE...VERY UNSANITARY. SMELLS LIKE HORRIBLE GARBAGE ALL THE TIME. I HAVE LIVED HERE FOR 1 YEAR AND IN THAT TIME THE WATER HAS BEEN OFF COUNTLESS TIMES, ELEVATORS NEVER WORK, HEAT WENT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER, SECURITY IS A JOKE, IT FLOODED, WATER IS NEVER HOT, LAUNDRY FACILITIES NEVER WORK!!!!! ALSO, THIS PLACE IS LIKE A CSU DORM!! OVER OCCUPANCY IN MANY APARTMENTS....TENANTS ARE VERY UNSANITARY!! SMELL AND GARBAGE EVERYWHERE. I WOULD RECOMMEND MOVING INTO THE BINGHAM OR BRIDGEVIEW IF YOU CAN GET IN. DO NOT MOVE INTO THIS PLACE FOR ANY REASON IT IS THE WORST IN CLEVELAND!!!

If you want to live in stress for your entire stay at this place risk it
The manager is the most meanest person I have ever seen or spoken with. I think she is only there to shout at people. If by any chance you have a complaint the best way is to ignore it because you could never get your complaint to the management and they would never fix it.

Terrible
Don't get fooled by the pool. It sucks! The water is ice cold and green. They don't even clean it regularly. Also it's open for only some two months -- totally not worth it! There are only 3 elevators and one has been broken for over two months now! Often you have to wait 20 mins for an elevator. Also the place smells like a dumpster all over. Nothing gets fixed. The management staff always has some attitude problems... bugs... There are other options in the area. Strongly discourage. You will be very disappointed.

DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!
I remember when I first contemplated living downtown. I looked at a few places online and maybe one or 2 bldgs in person before I decided on the Chesterfield. I fell in love with the apartment itself, the view, the great closet space, not to mention the rooftop pool and gym. Honestly, most of the amenities are disappointing.... like the putting green, tennis court, deck, garage, non-working elevators, etc...but If you are thinking of living here you can take a tour and see for yourself. The real issue with this bldg is security, maintenence and management, things you will not discover on a 20 minute tour. The building is located directly behind a section 8/rehab apartment building which houses hundreds of questionable persons. These same people can be found in the Chesterfield as pass key entry is not required until late in the evening. If they cannot access entry from the front door you certainly can going thru the garage. A woman was attacked and robbed in the lobby in front of security and the Chesterfield did nothing for her. Across the street 2 men were violently murdered in the nearby park. You would think due to it's close proximity to and history of danger, security would be tight, but it is not. Management is somewhat difficult to deal with as they are generally unfriendly and defensive. There have been 7 instances where water to the building was shut off for over 24 hours during my residency here. The basement and roof top pool have had issues with flooding. When this happens weeks of horrendous smells are unavoidable. It would be in your best interest to take a look at some of the reviews.People stealing packages? I have never experienced this. Roaches and bugs are the result of poor housekeeping, be it you or your neighbor. Flooding, poor maintenence, rude managers, 1 working elevator for 420 units, that is what the Chesterfield has to offer you. That is what makes the Chesterfield one of the worst residences downtown. Please choose wisely.

NOT RECCOMENDED !!!!!!!!
1. Smells like a garbage all the time! 2. At least one elevator is always out of order, it means durin the rush hours u have to wait a gooooood while to catch any.. 3. Horrible managment, not helpfull with anything, not even nice to talk to.. 4. Water is out at least once a week for whole building.. 5. Windows are sooo dirty from outside! they r not openable all the way so you can`t really help it , no way to clean em from the other side! horrible. Actually the only one good thing about that building is the swimming pool on top (to bad missing a chairs during the season, it`s always about 3-4 of them, so u just have to have your own.. ) and of course the Maintenance guys.. !!!!!!!!!

Its a facade....DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!
I have lived in the Chesterfield since December of 2007 and will definately be moving out when my lease expires this December (2008). It is really a horribly dirty place! The carpet throughout the building is dirty and although some remodeling was done this past year, the upkeep has been terrible, the new carpet was never cleaned and it already looks a few years old. The elevators are always broken and very very dirty! The security guards are not friendly and let anyone in the building. The pool area could be a nice feature but the pool water was so dirty that it was green and the tables, chairs and umbrellas are all broken! The gym equipment is old and does not work well. The so called "tennis court and putting green" are completely non existent. The putting green is under water because of backed up drains and the tennis court doesnt even have a net! The gas grills on the patio are old and broken and never had propane to be used! I could go on and on and on... BTW dont believe the staff about upgrades when moving in, I was promised new carpet and a new refrigerator a year ago and neither improvement has occured. The maintenance staff is friendly but not efficient. They take days or weeks to even check on the problem and rarely fix things in a timely manner. Overall The Chesterfield is a rip-off! They charge the same rent as nearby buildings, but The Chesterfield hardly compares to the elegance of Statler Arms, or even Reserve Square. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Way too many college kids and the students here from abroad (mostly India) crowd into small studio apartments, and are loud and rude to other tenants. The office staff are liars and they walk around like they are royalty. Well your palace sucks!!! The nicest person on the staff is Sally...to bad shes stuck in such a horrible place! (P.S. the good reviews on here about this place are written by staff members...i was told this by a maintenance person. They do it because if not for them, the reviews would all be bad!) MPA and The Chesterfield...worst apartments and owners in Cleveland...unless you're desperate, keep looking!!!

poor management !
I think live in an aptment, mangement is the most important thing. They have to handle so many people's living waste, maintain the old building, cooperate people's demand and requirment. If they can't manage well, it will affect your life. Chesterfield have a great loacation in downtown, but worst management compare with all other downtown aptment. How worst? give you an example. My sink was blogged and even worse other people's waste water would flow into my sink. during the dinner time, when lots of people using kitchen, all their waster water came into my sink. I have to using an bowl to get the dirty water into the toilet, and busy all night. This was the third time within 2 month. I called emergency maintain. they said they have to wait untill next morning, and refuse pick up my call any more, next morning, I called again they said they already put the order. Untill noon still nobody came, I go to the office ask them, they said the maintain peple have to finish what their boss ask them to do then look at my place and seems that's it's my fault to push them to hard. They don't feel sorry for my situation at all. How well is other apt? when I live in Reserve, every time when i call, the management people will say sorry to me and tell me the deadline to fix the problem. If I call for same problem, they usually will do it immediatly no matter what time. By the way, when maintain people came if you were not at home don't put anything on the table, they will

Dont even think about this place to live in
This place is full of problems. This place stinks like hell, full of bugs, water leakage problem, maintenance guys are pathetic, leasing officers are highly irresponsible and unprofessional. We dont use one of the room because water is leaking from window roof from last 10 days. Nobody cares about fixing it inspite of same problem occured last month when it rained first time in Cleveland. I am serious. I live here from last 2 months and you know what I hate it. I simply hate it.

a nightmare life in Chesterfield
I was out, I was so regrate to spend my life living there ever. since i plan to move out of the city, after my lease end, i still spend couple month there without sign a new contract. But I finally can't stand it any more. My kitchen's pipe is outbreak. Dirty, waste water with ckicken's oily skins flood my apartment. My cloths my furniture, whole aptment smell like a dead chicken. I have to RUN. My got infested by bed bug, terriable. I have to get rid of my $800 new bed. There are lots of bed frame and mattress dumpted in the lobby, I think chesterfield should really responsible for this. We paid the rent, and rent is not cheap. but at the end, we got infested. I never used the loundry room when I lived there. Those machine will make clothes even dirty. I bought a portable washing machine, it can only wash 2-3 cloth at a time. So when I lived there, washing cloth is a big project for me, took me a whole day. The smell is horriable. The stink cooking smell will make me sick. I use tape and paper to block the air window in the kitchen. When i back home I used strong bed bug spray to spray the door, the window, the entrance...... The parking lot is aslo terriable. Be sure to shut your car's air circle system when you park there. Peopel unrine beside your car. many many terrible memoray. I havn't received the depoist yet. I double they would refund to me in full, since they already can't meet their end.

The worst place ever
43 reviews cannot be wrong. this place is the WORST. the staff is too bad. you go to them and they will never be helpful. they will loose your mail, packages and will never be helpful. The rates here are sky rocketing. Believe me, the condition of the apartment floors is ridiculous. Garbage smells here. The Gym is the worst that has an ever lasting bad smell. Pool that does not open. And if by chance you got your apartment below the pool, there will be 100% leakage down to your apartment. But they are very polite now because every body is leaving their apartment. they are giving special deals but nobody is ready to live here. WATCH OUT GUYS.

The Best Deal in Town!!!
I found a great and unique apartment at The Chesterfield. The staff was warm and inviting. They made sure that I got what I wanted, and what a deal they are giving people. I would recommend this place to anyone who asks. It is definatly worth the money. The whole building has been updated and the apartment I picked in clean and very spacious. I have looked at alot of apartments in Downtown and sure some have a newer building and fake people working for them, but this place is the real deal. So what if they tell you the truth, it should be what you want here and not what they think you want to here!!!

No maintenanance, stinking apartments inundated by ----- ------ students
Trust me apartments stink, no garbage disposal, management allows more occupants per apartment, hungry for money, it is a virtual ----- ------ student's den attending the CSU. You need to wait for days/months for a small maintenance/repairs in your apartment- if you wish to rot with them and want no care sign the lease, they are waiting to grab you.

I've lived here the first time I came to Cleveland on Jan 06 for three months and now I'm moving back in, I signed a 1-year lease and I'm planning to stay there as long as I'm staying in Cleveland. The place is not the best you could find downtown but the best for the price, location, and services. The leasing agents are so nice here, they are really helpful and friendly! You can find some good neighbors too, and like any other community, there are some bad lousy ones too. Never been to the pool but i heard it's nice when it's cleaned. So close to CSU if you're a student like myself. Security is great. You receive packages as they were sent - not like other places I've lived in where people steal your mail -. This place is close to everything but nothing comes close "as they say in their Brochure" lol.. I really like it here! Affordable, Safe, and most of my friends live here. On a scale from 1-10 this place would get an 8 from my point of view..

I went up to the pool today because, it was a nice day and as soon as I got up there I could smell the nasty water from the pool...HEY CHESTERFIELD MANAGEMENT have you ever heard of Cleaning the pool? yea I didn't think so and also if you sit on the side of the pool on the blue paint WATCH OUT or you'll have blue paint on the back of your bathing suite I'd add a picture to this review but, you really wouldn't want to see it, you'd be that disgusted

Decent, but often smells like garbage, has rude security people, and is poorly maintained
It's fine if you are not too picky or hard to please, or are willing to adjust to slight inconveniences... but if you're a person who is constantly looking for reasons that you're paying too much-- you'd probably find them here. I am pretty happy here, but that's mostly because my last place was a scary hellhole. I think they need to pay much more attention to maintenance at the Chesterfield for it to really be a premier apartment choice.

Don't ever think of living here
I have been living in chester field since a year. I wouldn't say its a bad place to live in, because the apartments are nice, but the management is horrible. They recently changed the manager but she is also as bad as the previous one. I agree with other that it has serious problem of bed bugs and also some apartments have serious problems like warm water. I must have complained many times but they really didn't bother to fix it instead they treated me rudely. I wouldn't want to continue living here once my lease gets over. For real, its a horrible place to live peacefully.

GREAT PLACE TO LIVE
I don't know what everyone's problem is with the place. They were very helpful before, during, and after move in. As far as I understand, this might be a different management company. The apartments are nice, and affordable for what you get. The workout area is fantastic and I can't wait to use the roof top pool. I looked at comparable apartments, and nothnig was a greater value. I have a 750 square foot apartment for 668 a month. At reserver square, it was 775 for a 650 square foot apartment. Washer/dryer area is clean, nice, takes credit card(very convenient).
