Thank You
I am so happy that I found these reviews. I was planning on moving in here next month. Thankfully, I will not be living with bugs and thugs outside at the Chesterfield. Although I did like the pool and fitness center, I am not going to sacrifice this disgusting faults of this building. Anyone know of another building with conquerable pricing and amenities? I did take a look a few of these apartments when I was here last month and I can completely see all of the things mentioned happening here.
From a Business Resident
The business section of the building is even worse!

Our heat is constantly breaking down, we never get lights changed, we've had flooding three times in six months - two major incidents in which they never changed or cleaned the carpeting. There is mold growing on the walls of the empty business suite where the first major pipes burst. Cleaning is nil, don't even attempt to touch anything in the stairwells. The business elevator breaks down constantly. The security camera is a blank tape. We know this because another business resident was ripped off and the police said so after viewing it. It hasn't been changed in over four years we found out! Homeless live in the stairwells and yes there are roaches in the business suites as well.

The former manager was nasty & sarcastic & spiteful and released ALL the good staff, except one of the p/t concerieges.

Mistake on the Lake
First of all - it is a shame what has happened to the Chesterfield - it has gone down hill in the last several years and has hit bottom - they leasing staff including vicki needs to be replaced - Shirley has no people skills and is very rude and condesending - the bldg. lobby stinks and they rent apartments to anyone just to fillup the bldg. What happened to it? I am leaving this place when my lease is up in september and it is most important that people know this is not the place to live - I am just trying to be honest - it's too bad because the pool and fitness ctr. are great and the sundeck -the only nice people are sally and the maintenance staff. ALso, first impressions are important - since when does a property manager come to work with tennis shoes, white socks and capri pants? I don't think so - Shirely needs to wash her blouses onces in awhile - sorry but its the truth. very very unhappy ready to exit out now!

Downtown Disapointment
The Chesterfield has loads of potential, new management and better security. However when my lease is up at the end of February I will bid the building adieu. The pool is the greatest ammenity, followed by the deck off the 2nd floor. If you plan on moving here I suggest this...Drive by a few times in the evening, see what you think of the location in that respect....take a look at other floors and the entrance from the garage. The apts themselves are GORGEOUS and the pool is FANTASTIC, but there is more to this building than that.

Mistake on the Lake
Too bad this place has the reputation it has - it has the best ammenities in downtown Cleveland yet nothing has been done to upgrade the apartments - I checked out the Reserve Sq. and they are doing some nice remodeling to the apartments,I wish the owners would do the same for us otherwise when my lease is up I may have to relocate - even though the warehouse district is alittle pricey for me - I may go that route then I can have a dog !

Glad I'm on my way out
I've lived in the building for three years, and did not have any problems until recently. I have roaches in my apartment and have had "extermination" several times. They have not gone away. I agree with previous posts that the property managers are pretty rude AND that Sally at the front desk is probably one of the nicest people around. Anytime there is a complaint it has to be taken up with the "corporate office" wherever they are. The fitness center seems nice, but some of the equiptment has been in disrepair for months. Further, it seems that the number of homeless panhandlers and rowdy folks on the street outside is ever increasing. As a woman, I do not feel safe here anymore. Further, management has handled my bug problem in a less than adequate fashion. I understand these problems happen in large buildings, but its been four weeks and many so-called exterminations and the problem still exists.

NEVER EVER...RENT HERE!!!!
If its been a while for you to make a stupid move....plz dont move here unless u r desperate for it!!! My main concern is the management. Management has been a big time sucker. All they do is sit and bask in windows watchin grazin preys!! Once U R in, u simply lose all ur respect..they dont want to retain you and u can easily figure out "who-cares" attitude. Simply sucks for the price you pay.

The good!!
----------

Rooftop swimmin pool is fun!
Fitness club is good.

The BAD
-------
Roaches...Roaches...everywhere.!!! If you are someone who lives with these little monsters this is a welcome paradise!! There are plenty and no matter how hard you try u will never get rid of them!

Plz Plz...take snaps of your apartment and get it verified with management. You are NEVER EVER gonna get your so called deposits back. Trust me they wont mind screwing your credit history for no reasons....- "who cares " attitude prevails!

Do they discriminate!!??? yeah pretty much..one of their most veteran morning receptionist won't mind listening to a white guy and blabbering with a smily face unless U SHOW UP!! For some reason...i found lot of my frnds with same experience...!!! The most arrogant woman lived ever!!

Overall...I was impressed by few changes to management recently, but the attitude still prevails.

If you dont want to end up writing the same crap..once u join these guys.......STAY OUTTA IT!! I am moving finally!!!

It SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
Chesterfield Apartment management is really inconsiderate and you should never expect to get your deposit back. Also lots of roaches and ants. This place is really dirty and security is nil. Anybody can walk in anytime. Entire management saff is liar and rude. Place is noisy and also they claim it to be a luxury aparttment but I see it as a big dumpster. I highly recommend not to rent here. Once you signed the lease then you are non existent to the management and will increse rent every year without any improvement in services to the tenants.

Great Potential; Lousy Right Now
Given its amenities, the Chesterfield should be one of the better apartment buildings downtown. And for a while after they finished the renovations, it was. It has sunny, well-designed apartments, some with spectacular views of city; an enclosed, heated garage (which I sorely miss now that it's winter); a good-sized fitness center; and a large, card/coin operated communal laundry, to name a few. But in the last couple of years, the building's really gone downhill. The problems are legion, as others in this forum have noted: major ant (during the summer) and roach problem; sewage smells in the basement laundry room (though this may be for reasons beyond their control, as I've smelled it elsewhere downtown, too); tenants who don't care about the property and leave trash in the elevators and hallways; fire alarms that go off at least once a week; the riff raff who like to hang out outside, etc. Because there are businesses on the second floor, it's relatively easy for strangers to get into building, especially during the day. I didn't have some of the problems other reviewers complained about. I had no problem getting my deposit back when I moved out (though I did have to keep reminding them that I was moving out); I had a reserve spot and rarely had problems with parking; and maintenance was usually on the ball on the rare occasions I had a problem. I would like to move back there someday, as it has the best combo of amenities of the buildings along E. 12th St. Despite the occasional problems with bums and thugs, I really like the area. But until the Chesterfield cleans up its act, I'm living elsewhere. What the building needs is a new owner, as MPA clearly does not give a crap.

NOOOOOOOOOOO
We lived in this building for 2 1/2 years and I can tell you I couldn't wait to move out. We only lived there because we were going to CSU. I wish I was reading the reviews before we moved in. After 2 years we decided we can not take it anymore and wanted to move out, but they said we didn't give them a 60 days notice (which we did, but unfortunately we didn’t keep a copy of the notice).
Everything about this place was a nightmare: parking, management, maintenance.
We found coach roaches several times, the place it not safe at all, the people working there are very mean, the building is very dirty ( specially in the summer the parking stinks very very bad)
Now we moved out of that horrible place, but we still had problems. Today we called to see if we are getting our deposit back, but they said we own them money because the place refrigerator was not clean, what is not true.
Please think twice before you move there, it’s the worst place to live.
Don't Move Here. Be Careful When You Move Out.
So you have heard about the roach problem...but let me tell you how bad it is. I moved out (because this place is only a tiny step up from hell) and unpacked my boxes and have found a dead roach in nearly everyone. THEY CAME WITH ME!

I hate this place. I hate the management. The parking. The security.

DONT MOVE HERE!!

Roaches, smells like a dumpster, loading dock(noise)
This is the worst place to live. Everything I own smells like trash now because it smells like trash in the garage and I live near the trash area (they have one on every floor), and as soon as you get to be 25 feet from it it smells just like a dumpster. No matter what methods one would use to try to get rid of the stench eg. candles, air freshners, wall units or other kinds. And also the noise there is a loading dock outside my window and every morning at 630 am there is an incredible amount of noise in the form of trucks and clanging and the beeping noise to indicate that the truck is in reverse. I don't need to know that but I do because that is what wakes me up everyday. I have lived here for 1 month and I haven't had 1 good nights sleep. So if you intend on sleeping past 630 am . I would recomend a different place to live. Yes and then there are the roaches. And then there are these tiny little ants crawling all around in the restroom in the fitness center. My skin crawls here and I am looking for a new place. I need some peace and sleep in my life not the constant stress that this place causes. It is impossible for me to relax here. I am moving tomarrow. Hopefully to statler arms or reserve square. However I may rent a space from a friend in Rocky river. I need to get the hell out of here. This is the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life in a rental situation.

HORRIBLE, STINKY and ROACHES
Unless you intend on doing a 6th grade science project on ants and roaches I don't recommend moving here. Not only is it infested with roaches but it stinks! It smells like onions and garbage. The managment is horrible. Perfect example of "everything that seems good, ain't good!!!" I moved in recently and you know what it is horrible.

The calm before the storm
Well if you do move in here, things you liked will have outweighed those that you didn't. But remember, at first glance everything is hunky dory cuz you haven't had time to experience anything bad yet. Good appliances in your apartment, the rooftop pool, the card and coin operated laundry, decent parking in the summer, stores and restaurants nearby are all lovely sounding before you move in.... But after awhile, things change. Amenities may malfunction in your apartment and you may find yourself stranded for weeks before maintenance comes; someone may steal your clothes out of the laundry; the pool closes for the winter; lots of students with their cars come in the fall, so parking is hell if you don't buy a reserved spot; and at night the stores and restaurants close so you find it difficult to go outside with the many shady homeless people and whatnot loitering just outside the front.
But hey, you get used to things. I'm alright here. I've gotten used to the stench just outside the lobby to the parking garage. I've even smoked cigarettes with the bums. i still love my view of the downtown skyline and the lake. i don't have roaches. but i'm on the sixteenth floor, maybe they find no reason to come up this high. or maybe my cat eats them all, i dont know. Can't beat the price with heat and utilities included though! Every place has its ups and downs, and no one said any living situation in life would be perfect, which i'm sure you've figured out by now.
As far as the person who posted on here who has lived here for 20 years, and didn't recommend living here...that's just effin weird to me. i'd consider his/her comments truthful, but the recommendation hypocritical and null.

Roaches
I just moved in here in this summer and now I regret the decision. This place is filled with ROACHES!!! They are all over the building and terminex is not strong enough. They only spray individual apartments and the roaches play musical apartments. They need to spray the whole building, but I have not seen them do this yet. My floor and the floor above me are infested with roaches. I see them on a daily basis in my apartment.

Gone Downhill
I have lived here for more than 20 years, and watched the building decay...I am on disability so it is difficult for me to move, or I would be out of here. The staff is rude and the lobby and garage smell of trash day and night. The hallways are always littered and the pool is rarely cleaned (only when the city inspector is called). It really is a shame.

If you have no other choice
This isn't a bad place to live but that is about it....I have enjoyed my time here except when I have had any kind of request of the staff. I had to wait a month to get a dishwasher fixed, three weeks to get my toliet fixed, a week to get my locks changed after I was robbed outside the building.
But in general the building is ok. Just don't break anything in your apartment, or leave the building after dark.

i'm lovin' it
i moved into the chesterfield in mid june and i was amazed coming into the lobby. and i met terry, part of the leasing staff, and she was very nice, energetic, and helpful. In fact the entire leasing staff is awesome now! They gave me a deal on my rent and i had an even cheaper move-in rent amount. Terry helped me get my paperwork done quickly and then gave me a tour of the building

the fitness center is clean and awesome, the rooftop pool is a perk (except there were a lot of bugs flying around the pool because it had just rained), finding parking was a cinch for me, the laundry facilities are good (you can even use your debit card to pay so no more quarters!), and theres a tennis court if you are into that.

When i saw my apartment, i got that excited feeling you get when you go on vacation and stay in a nice hotel. i have magnificent views of the city and lake! but i go to the roof to soak in better panoramic views. they also give residents a cool keycard for keyless entry into the lobby and fitness center.

A couple of downfalls of the chesterfield i would say is that the entrance hallway into the lobby from the parking garage smeels like garbage. I hope they can move their garbage facility elsewhere in the near future! Also, i wish they had computers in their business room, because i don't have mine yet! but then again, the library is only three blocks away!

the rock 'n' roll hall of fame is six blocks north, tower city with its awesome shopping and RTA station is six blocks west, the warehouse district with its rockin' nightlife is 7 blocks northwest, and cleveland state university is also 6 or 7 blocks east. It's a great place if you ask me!

Good!
So i've read a lot of bad things about the place, but i liked it. The leasing guy, tom i think, is great i loved him. now Julia on the other hand was not the greatest, but last summer she "left" so i wouldn't worry about the leasing staff. The apartments are wonderful, i had no problem with maintenance. And a POOL ON THE ROOF now you can't beat that! great for tanning! AND they dont up the rent for a short term lease. at least not for me!

Management stuff sucks. (at least the senior blondie)
A rasist? may be, but for sure she is sly and unfriendly. Unfortunatelly, didn't cath her name. But she has been there forever. She is the main reason I'm moving out. "Oh, you are not a white american citizen- sorry, but yor rent must be higher."
The building is OK. May be the new manager will do better.

been here for 2 years...
If you are considering about renting in Chesterfield, you have to forget about what customer service is. those leasing people are always on fire like they eat some kind of fiery sauce everyday. no professonalism, no respect. no help whatsoever. Maintenance is a nightmare. parking is a pain the a**. you hardly get spots. parking management is horrible. YOU WILL NEVER EVER get your security deposit back from these parking people. trust me. they dont turn on ehat or A/c way into the season begins. you literally freeze your a** off inside.

now the good side: kind of nearby to all the downtown offices, near to clevland state university which is the reason why I rented this damn place. nosie level depends on where you stay. THERE ARE TONS ANS TONS of students in these apt's can tend to be very noisy in the weekdays as well as the weekends. but overall I would not rent these if I dont live in downtown and has a strong reason and purpose to do so.,
