Do Not Live Here

Anything you ask to have done will not get done by the maintenance department. They do not care if your stuff has mold on it, bees outside your porch door or plow snow adequately. They act friendly, but are stuck up. When our first place had mold in it after only living there for 2 months, we had to tell them we wanted to move next door. On the day we went to get the keys, they asked why we were moving across the hall, after telling them a week earlier. We had to clean the new place ourselves as it was disgusting. Upon moving we cleaned everything top to bottom and was spotless. They took money from our security deposit because they had to have someone clean it along with the carpets.

    Great apartments, great area!

I lived at the Woodhawk Club for a little over a year and had to move out due to job relocation. Overall, I would definitely recommend these apartments. I never once felt unsafe in my apartment and didn't have any security issues. I'd feel comfortable walking from my apartment to the gym at night and there were always people out. Rent was kinda high, but you're paying for a nicer place to live. I've never lived anywhere but north of Pittsburgh, but everything you need is 5 miles away and it's seriously the easiest drive into and out of the city during rush hours. The office staff were extremely friendly (knew me by name and apartment number, and I didn't even file that many maintenance requests!) and maintenance addressed issues promptly and were always friendly and respectful as well. I received my ENTIRE security deposit back after I moved out, and I know there was some damage to the apartment...I've never lived in a complex before an had the entire amount returned! :) If I had to complain about something, it would be hearing the neighbors upstairs. If you're on the 3rd floor, you're golden...I was on the second floor and could hear my upstair's neighbors nightly aerobics sessions, 'bedroom' sessions and her walking like an elephant everywhere. I guess that's a part of apartment living, though.

      NO NO NO NO NO!!!

I have lived at the WoodHawk for 4 years, and am counting down the days to leave!! The complex has gone steadily downhill since I first moved in. The ammenities offered are a JOKE!! At one time, yes, they had all of those things- but not anymore. Maintenance is lousy! Office staff keeps poor record of finances and are always handing out random notices that you owe money because of their miskeeping. Just all in all, in the North hills you shoud be getting FAR better service for the area PLUS the astronomical rental prices!!

        Don't Rent Here

I have lived in the Woodhawk Club since last January. The common areas are disgusting and very poorly maintained. The roads are in DESPERATE need of repair, as the potholes could very easily damage a car. The staff is rude and very rarely addresses any of the issues I have. I called about my air conditioner not cooling properly and had to call back three times over the course of two weeks in the middle of summer before someone came to my apartment. As a result, my electric bill was over $300! My washer leaked and I called; someone came that day, however they left all of their tools in my apartment and wrote me a note using one of my paper towels. I was just informed today, ONLY because I called to ask another question, that my rent would be increasing after my 14 month lease is up. No one ever told me my rates would rise if I renew my lease. What type of way is this to treat a faithful tennent who has been with you for 14 months?! Truly, you can do MUCH better for the price you pay at The Woodhawk Club.

          Good Office Staff

I recently rented at the Woodhawk Apartments for 3-months in the summer of 2010. I was staying at the woodhawk away from home (Phoenix) on a contract work assignment, and it was unknown when the work would be completed, and when the contract ends. Karen at the office was very helpful and supportive during my stay. She worked with me on a lease where I did not have to pay a penalty for leaving if my contract was finished before the lease ended. The Woodhawk apartments was a good place to stay for me during my temporary work assignment in Pittsburgh.

            not good

I thought the Woodhawk was a wonderful place to live at first. The lawn was beautiful and they were speady with their maintenance. As time went on, things changed. You pay 1000 dollars for a one bedroom apartments that is sooooo small and they can not even mow the grass. The grass was so high at one point that I could not even see my dog in it. The multch was gone and all that was left was mudd. Weeds were growing everywhere around the complex. I called and asked the front desk if it was our responsibility to take care of the lawn and they said no. They said they would put a work order in. This was put in, in june. It is now august and nothing. The list goes on and on. In general...it is a nice looking place but overall the price is much too high for the service that is provided. WASTE OF MONEY!!!

              Anti-Semitic Behavior

I have been renting here for close to 2 years. I myself and many of my friends have noticed the property is being neglected. I think in the past year, this place has been falling into the section 8 category. I THOUGHT I signed into a LUXURY apartment lease. I have called the office regarding my concerns and they always seem to pass the buck onto someone else. They always tell you that your leasing agent will return your call. Well, the girl I signed with must no longer be working here because I'm still waiting to hear from her. Don't even think about meeting with a leasing agent; every time I walk into the office they're eating their lunch. Someone NEEDS to address the employment problem that is OBVIOUSLY taking place. Thus leading me to my main concern, the Anti-Semitic remarks that I myself and my future in-laws have been subjected to. There is a woman working here that speaks a foul tongue. So foul, that I won't even repeat it because I don't want to insult anyone else. My soon to be father-in-law was explaining to me how sacred his religion is to himself and his son, because I am in the process of becoming a member of the Jewish faith. Suddenly, we hear this SO CALLED WOMAN yelling insults to the Jewish community. My future in-laws were going to give us a home as a wedding gift, which proves not all Jews are cheap.(Like this woman had said.) After hearing everything she had to say about Jewish people, my fiance's parents have suggested that I move into the home they have purchased, and their son will join me after we wed. What a way to meet your future in-laws. I have NEVER been so embarrassed!

                DO NOT RENT HERE!!!

I rented from the Woodhawk Club and was luckily able to move out because I purchased my new home. The people that work at the Woodhawk Club are not helpful at all. First off, I had to call down four times to get them to come and fix my fridge which was freezing my food. It wasn't until I brought down three frozen eggs and a grocery bill of $100 dollars that they would have to pay if my fridge wasn't fixed. Before we had the big snow, we had a few smaller storms. When I couldn't get up the hill to go to work because it wasn't properly shoveled, I called the office. I ask them if they could send someone and they told me they would try to locate the plowers, but couldn't make any promises. This is a main road that everyone in the complex uses, it should of been clear. Finally, the last example of poor customer service is when I had to throw away $25 dollars worth of ahi tuna steaks because they did not have any propane left in the grill they provide for us. When I asked why the other tank was not filled up, they had no answer and only told me that it was a courtesy to have a grill. In each of these examples, the Woodhawk Club shows no empathy for their renters. Never once was an apology given to me. I suggest the Club at North Hills or Christopher Wren. You not only get more for your buck, but the people running those places are compassionate and there to help there renters, opposed to blowing them off.

                    Great Place

I am a senior who has lived at the Woodhawk Club for 10 years. Because of family matters, I had to relocate out of state. I am sad to leave the Woodhawk Club. My experience with the staff and the apartment has been outstanding. I can only hope my new apartment will be half as great.

                      Just Bought a House

We lived at the Woodhawk club for the past year and the only reason we left is because we were lucky enough to find a house that we purchased. I have no complaints about the facilities and like i said, if we werent moving into a house we would have signed on for another year with the Woodhawk club. The staff was wonderful with us, and the facilities were always kept immaculate. I would recommend the woodhawk club to anyone looking for an apartment. It was a great experience and the apartments are beautiful. -Erik and Lydia

I have been living at the Woodhawk Club for 4 years now and I absolutely LOVE IT! The staff is great and they are always very helpful and attentive to my needs. My apartment was spotless when I moved in and everything went very smoothly. I plan on staying here for many years to come! The people that write bad reviews on here are probably the people who got kicked out for not paying their rent or for disturbing the peace. I can't think of one complaint about The Woodhawk Club!

                          I'm very happy living here.

I am a senior lady and have lived at the Woodhawk Club since 2004. I have enjoyed my years at Woodhawk and will probably stay for many more years. The office staff is always very helpful and friendly. There was a time when I was not at all pleased with the attitude of the office staff but that has improved immensely over the past year. The present employees are professional and very pleasant. I especially enjoy the pool in the summertime and the "tenent get togethers" arranged by the staff. I would recommend this apartment complex to anyone. And since I have been living here two of my friends who had visited me here have downsized and are now living here also.

Office staff is friendly, yet complaints and concerns are seldom addressed promptly if at all. You will get either very good to fair maintenance service depending on who happens to arrive at your door. Noise from adjoining apartments is very annoying. Tenants leave garbage, shoes, sleds, and free weights in the hallways. Watch your step. Apartments are roomy and nicely laid out. Neighborhood is safe.

I've lived here for 2 years now. I have to say that I disagree with most of the reviews here. My experience has been very good. Yes, I've had to call the office to ask for a maintenance request but, it has always been taken care of quickly. I love the fact that when I go to the office for anything I am greeted by very friendly faces and the girls know who I am. I read reviews that the windows leak, the hot tub doesn't work etc. I've seen new windows being installed in the apartment next to mine and I've used the new hot tub. It's a shame that only the people with issues post reviews here. It is very unfair and I'm happy to call The Woodhawk my home.

I honestly did not expect much based on the negative reviews. I showed up without an appointment and was greeted by Natalie in the leasing office. She answered my questions and concerns and took the time to show me the apartments that I was interested in. I rented that day and moved in shortly after. When I moved in my new apartment was exactly what I expected, very clean and ready for me. This has been a good move for me. My advice is to take a look and make your own decision.

I lived there for few years..I'll try not to to repeat what other reviewres had said, but in general, I do agree that the staff is not so very friendly..but they didn't cause any trouble. I had a neighbour who had a little dogy, although I'm not a big fan of dogs but I have no problem having them around..but NOT this one!!! that dog was barking day and night, whenever you get in /out the unit..although he was leeshed(most of the time) but i couldn't imagine him jumping on my little boy or biting him (he almost did ) regarding the noise, forget about it they will do nothing for you. speedy cars..yes there are plenty of them. one more thing; if your neighbour passed gas in the bathroom..you can hear it, you can tell what time they go to sleep and if they do anything before that (ofcourse they now , as well, what you do !!) one good thing about the location,it's nearby everything, and they did have a nice emergency maintenance team..I can't deny that.

UPDATE: Added some photos to give a visual to some of my earlier descriptions. Not much has changed since my original review. Woodhawk remains a dump and a joke. Avoid this place at all cost. You can do MUCH better than the Woodhawk club. The dog waste baskets are rarely changed. The stench can be smelled from 15 feet away. Is really too much to ask that these are emptied on a regular basis? Is it necessary for residents to call the office and complain before they are changed? Staff, here's a clue: Change the bags weekly, without being reminded by residents. It's not our responsibility to alert you to basic maintenance needs. "Landscaping" is a complete joke. There are weeds and dead shrubs/trees all around the complex. Take a ride up Johnanna drive and check out the lovely dead shrubs lining the right hand side of the road. Classy!!! The grass is only cut on occasion. Large areas of the property are skipped even when the grass is cut. Not sure if it's because cheap owners or lazy grounds keepers. Either way, it's a job that is never done to completion. Tennis/Basketball courts are in poor condition even-though they were "repaired" last fall. The "repairs" consisted of of pouring some black roofing tar in the large cracks in the court surface. The cracks are still inches deep!! Nice job. I've been here 2 years, the jacuzzi has never worked in that entire time though it's still prominently advertised on complex website. False advertisement anyone? Lighting is poor and many lights around property are burned out. Again, these go months without replacement. It takes a call to the office to complain to get something done, even then it takes weeks before something is done to remedy the situation. Do any of the staff ever leave the office to get a look at the place? Doesn't appear so. There is also exposed wiring on many of the light posts around the property. The wires are exposed through the access panels that maintenance uses to maintain the lights. The panel doors are missing, exposing the live electric wires for any child or animal to come in contact with. Injury and lawsuit waiting to happen. The roads and parking lot have large potholes. Hallways are filthy and smell of mold. It's actually a BO like smell, just lovely. The carpet hasn't been cleaned in ages and the walls could have used a nice coat of paint years ago. This isn't really a big deal if you like that ------, projects kind of feel. Sidewalks are cracked and uneven in several spots around the property. They have been in this condition as long as I have been here. I don't hold my breath waiting for repairs. These areas are VERY dangerous during the winter due to lack of attention to the snow and ice. In the winter, snow removal is minimal. There is a major problem with ice on the sidewalks around the entire complex due to lack of drainage. There is never any attempt to clear the ice. In the summer the areas between the buildings are like a swamp also due to the lack of drainage. The poor folks on the ground floor routinely need to use sandbags to prevent water from entering the apartments. This is also due to lack of drainage. You can tell that there was underground drainage at one point, but now all water is routed into the grass. I would guess that there was an issue with the underground drainage and the owners were not willing to repair it, hence the flooding, swamp and ice issues. The roads in the winter are also neglected. Many times this past winter cars couldn't make it up the main entrance road. They would get stuck just in front of the clubhouse. A quick plow and some salt could have solved the problem but I guess that's just expecting too much. Litter EVERYWHERE. Beer bottles, cigarette butts, fast food wrappers, clothing, condoms and needles. You name it, it's on the ground. There is nobody on the maintenance staff who makes any attempt to keep the place tidy. Windows and sliding glass doors are very poor quality and the cold air pours in in the winter months. Drastic temperature differences in the rooms of the apartment. There is a 15 degree difference between the living room and bedroom in my place. I winterized the windows as best as possible and the cold air just pours in through the door leading to the balcony. This was with plastic covering the entire doorway and widows. Walls are paper thin. You can clearly hear you neighbors and what they are up to. When folks go up and down the steps it sounds like a herd of cattle from inside the apartments. This place has potential but is a dump because of severe lack of maintenance. There are many vacants and I know why.... it appears that the owners and management are clueless as to the cause. It's also funny to see that the woodhawk website bills the place as "luxury living". What a joke.

                                        Billing issues

We lived here for 2 years. Each month we would pay our rent (early, by the way) and then receive an invoice for $110.00. When we call the office, they say we never payed for cable or internet service the month before. One problem with that theory: the cable and internet service is provided through the apartment management company and is included in the amount that you write them for rent each month. My girlfriend is a CPA and we made an appointment to finally meet with them face to face to find out why we were billed this same amount every month. They could never produce a single document that showed any short payments or missed payments, but simply replied that "Our accounting department says you owe $110.00 so you have to pay". We refused and after we moved out they kept a portion of our security deposit. Care to guess what the amount was? You guessed it....$110.00!!! The actual apartment was really nice except that they mix pet-friendly apartments in the same building as people who don't have pets, so you get the pleasure of having your neighbor's flesh eating Pit Bull jumping on you as you try to get to your apartment through the hallways. One other thing: the girls in the office are extremely rude if you go to pick up a package. I actually heard the girl make fun of another tenant's last name when they showed up to pick something up. Very unprofessional.

DEAKTOR DEVELOPMENT IS TRULY THE BEST TO RENT FROM

I can tell you Deaktor Development is not affiliated, contrary to some very incorrect, assumptive people with the Woodhawk Club. The Owners are different, the Management is different and the 2 have no co-ownership or relationship whatsoever other than being commonly and most wrongfully associated. I rent from Deaktor Development. They are quite honestly the very best rental and management company. Their apartments are beautiful. The buildings are clean. The maintenance flawless. This company cares about every Tenant. They try hard to always do the right thing. They are easy to reach and extremely responsive. Deaktor Development is the only true and honest pittsburgh company. Reading the nonsense of the negative, untrue comments lead me, the HAPPY DEAKTOR TENANT to think a jealous competitor is unjustly trying to make them appear as something other than the great company they are. Rent from Deaktor Development.

I have lived at the Woodhawk Club for almost 20 years and I LOVE IT. The office and maintainence staff are all kind and considerate. I always tell my friends, I hope I can live here until my next address -- HEAVEN. Don't believe all the negative you hear. It's a great place to live.

It's an apartment not a house!

Why do only the negative reviews show up here? We found the Woodhawk Club a great place to live while our house was being built. When we moved in, it was in great condition. Noise level was quieter then other apartments we lived in. If any problems arose, Amy had Dave in the apartment fixing the problem before the day was done. (The garbage disposal needed to be replaced). Dave was couteous, prompt, and helpful. Amy, in the office, was outstanding with her helpfulness and kind manner. She just couldn't do enough for us. All the other ladies at the office were as considerate. You saw the young lady on the golf cart parked somewhere and working in an apartment. The lawn maintance guys were always working and all summer we saw improvements done on the grounds. This is an apartment complex, people, not a private home. We recommend it highly!
