Not Worth the Money
Amli at Oakhurst North isn't the best apartment complex, but I am sure you can find worst. I loved the look of the apartments when I was looking, it makes you feel like your not so much in an apartment with the higher ceilings and the white kitchen. I know apartment is exactly that an apartment and no matter where you rent there will be pros and cons. I've learned from many years of renting, an apartment will never be perfect I think some people just expect too much. But I will say Amli is the first apartment and the most expensive apartment I've lived in that has had sooo many maintenance issues, yes the maintenance guys are very nice. But there is nothing worse than having your sink overflow in the middle of the night with nasty food and brown water and then when you call maintenance they take 4 days to come out. And I've noticed the maintenance and office seem to never be on the same page the maintenance guys don't come out when they are suppose to and even though the girls in the office are super nice they are as well super unhelpful. Sometimes I askā¦Ā See More>Cathyr911

Love it here
I have been living here since August of 2004. I am in a very nice building on the northeast side of the complex. My patio has a very nice view of a wooded area. It is quiet here with the exception of some noise from the train tracks which are about a half mile to the north. There is a very busy road just to the east of us and I am not able to hear any traffic noise from that road. In the future I will be moving out west and have located an AMLI out there that I can transfer to. The maintenance staff here is great and knows us by first name. Anytime we have had an issue they respond immediately if it is an emergency nature or within the 48 hour time frame they promise.

I am happy at AMLI
I've read some of the reviews here and am kind of surprised. I have only lived here for four months, but I am very happy. I'll admit that there were quite a few bugs when I first moved here in the fall, but a screen door and a little bug spray around the windows and doors took care of that problem. I think there are so many bugs because this complex was built near wetland areas. I had a few minor issues with the air conditioner and dryer, but maintenance came and took care of those issues right away. I am very impressed with the snow removal program they have. They clean the parking lots and sidewalks and salt immediately after it snows. They also keep the grounds maintained during the warmer months. The management at the front office is very friendly and helpful. If you can, try to get a unit near the pond. The fountains are very relaxing when it is warm out. The noise from Eola Rd. and Liberty St. can be a little loud at times, but we got used to it. My neighbors have all been friendly and courteous. The walls here are thick. HORRIBLE---STAY AWAY
I am a senior citizen and I was planning on renting an apartment at Oakhurst North in 1 month. They wanted $60.00 fee a credit check, so they told me to go online and fill out the paperwork and $60.00 would be deducted from my bank for a credit check. I had no problem with that but when I received my bank statement they took out $460.00 instead of $60.00. When I confronted them they said that $150.00 was for an admin fee and the other $200.00 was for security deposit, but if I changed my mind the extra $400.00 would be refunded to me. Well a week later I had some serious health issues which prvented me from moving at this time. But when I told them they said the money I paid was non refundable. I started crying over the phone because I am a senior citizen and I am sick and now I have a lot of medical bills I need to pay and I needed the extra $400.00 back. Basically they said "too bad". So if you are thinking of renting an apartment at Oakhurst North in Aurora, don't. Read all the bad reviews first, I wishā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Cons beginning to outweight the pros
I have only lived here for a few winter months so I'm afraid that I cannot comment on the bug problem that others mention; I am a little nervous to see what happens in warmer months though! I must say that they are fairly competitively priced; they are no bargain but are more affordable than most Amli properties with the townhome feel. My problems begin with the amenities. There is only one garbage area; very inconvenient and the compactor is very unreliable. The gym is very sparce and if there is more than one person in there, it is very crowded. There is only one elliptical machine there so I don't even bother. They NEVER salt the grounds and the winter driving conditions are very dangerous. I even saw one gentleman be carted away in an ambulance as he fell and cracked his head open and still nothing was done. As for the apartment, it is very spacious. Walk-in closet, large master bathroom with a soaking tub, large kitchen, and high vaulted ceilings. However, when you move in, the carpets are only shampooed; they are very weared down and it is impossible to keep it looking clean. I have informedā¦Ā See More>cubsfan08

HORRIBLE!!!!
Very money hungry!! Relocated to another state for work, had to break my lease. Payed $2000 to break it. Then 30 days later got another hidden fee of $500!!! they will clean you dry and could care less! Don't recommend it to anyone!!!! Also carpet was dirty when I moved in and then when moving out I had to pay for the last persons mess!!

Okay, but not great.
I really liked the apartment I lived in for a year, and enjoyed the location within the city. I had some really nice neighbors that lived upstairs that I was friendly with for awhile before they moved out. The community at large is pretty nice, too. The maintenance men were also very nice and usually pretty prompt. My main argument with this property would be the management team in the office. They're very nice and generally pleasant to work with, but not very helpful at all. I had a similar problem to one of the other reviewers when I moved in--no hot water. It turned out to be a switched pipe; for some reason it gave you cold water on hot and vice versa. I had that for a week. Then, my car was broken into. I was really disappointed about that because I thought it was a pretty nice community that was very safe. The washer and dryer were convenient, but very poor quality. They destroyed half my clothes within a few months of even very careful and conservative use. I ended up just soaking a lot of my clothes without actually running the agitator much. Finally, I hadā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Stay Away!
Like others have said - please read the other 50 reviews under this name. I just moved out (broke my lease to do it) because the living conditions were horrible. The pipes WILL freeze in the winter if you don't let your water run 24 hours. Mine froze (I was without a kitchen for a month!) as well as the pipes in the unoccupied unit behind me causing MOLD. I'm not talking a little bit, I'm talking full blown 2ft by 2ft areas covered with black and green mold! Gross. Maintenace did come out and "cleaned" the mold off of the wall wihtin a day of calling it in. But you need to ask yourself if just cleaning the area and not replacing the wall or CARPET is healthy. The manager refused to take my phone calls and would leave early when I scheduled meetings with her. The parking lots are constantly littered with cigarette butts and broken beer bottles. There is only ONE garbage area which is always broken so that garbage piles up all over the street. The units may look nice from the outside butā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Stay away
We have lived here for over 2.5 years and it is a pretty nice place to live as long as you don't have any problems. We have nice neighbors and even everyone in the community seems to be very friendly, and we also like that they have an indoor and outdoor pool with fitness area as well. There is a park to play but it is pretty much just three slides for the kids. The staff is very nice and helpfull EXCEPT for the property manager and asst. Property manager. They don't get anything done. Our hot water heater broke and by the time it got fixed we had mold growing all over our house. They were supposed to clean it up but two years later and it is still a problem. Then we had NO hot water for almost two months and they did NOTHING to compensate us as they are supposed to stop charging rent once they don't get it fixed after the 2nd try. The prop. manager wouldn't even speak to us and kept avoiding our calls until I asked for her bosses name and told her employees to tellā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Not as bad as others make it out to be...
So like any educated consumer, anything that i am going to spend money on, i am more than willing to spend the time to research it, SO READ THIS. I once heard something about the restaurant business, someone has a good experience, they tell one or two close friends, if they have a bad experience, around 9 people are told. Your living situation is something very serious, so take this review seriously. Like an apartment community, there are ups and downs, and you have to understand that you are not moving into a house, but an apartment. All of the people who have complained about this property are people who have caused problems for themselves, its clear in what they write. I have been here for two years now and am thinking about moving away, and thats how i came across this site. I cannot believe that only 26 percent of people would recommend this place. Now keep in mind, that percent is of the people who have written on this site, not of the people who have lived here. Noise has never been an issue. The person living above meā¦Ā See More>anonymous

a decent place
My wife and I lived here for a year, after moving out from downtown Chicago. We wanted a safer place w/ more space and ammenities (sp?) than we'd had in the city. This place served our needs. A couple things to point out though... 1) The "ponds" on the property are a nice touch, but when the water becomes so engulfed w/ waste from ducks/geese that there appears to be a moving amoeba-like form across the entire surface that it produces a foul stench, then maybe mgmt might want to look into getting it cleaned a bit. 2) The "mutt stations" for folks to pick up after their dogs are nice as well. They don't work so well though if there are no bags to pick up the waste though. 3) The garbage dumpster/trash compactor. There's only one for the entire complex, and it's not really in the central part of the community. Also, should you want to go throw out garbage on a Friday through Monday, be prepared for the entire thing to be overflowing w/ garbage, trash, furniture, recyclables, etc. Oh yeah, when going to the dumpster, keep your eyes out for wildā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Uneducated staff lead to declining Amli @ Oakhurst North
It is so pleasing to me to know that the problems I have had with this community are not just me. The women who run this place will try and lead you to believe you are the problem and will never take ownership of their problems. There is a reason they work in Apt Complex. They are idiots. If it wasn't for the fact my job had me temporarily located here and they were paying my rent I would have left after the 1st month. The management all the way to the Regional Mgt is a joke. They have also let the community become overrun with thugs, but that might just be the fact of Section 8 laws or the fact it is AURORA. Apt Manager is a --&*h and so is her boss. Last post summed up my experiences as well. STAY AWAY if you know what is best for you!!!

Stay away from this complex; horrible cust svce, and all about the money!
I've just finished a two year stay at Amli at Oakhurst. In a nutshell, I'd describe the facility as a money pit. Paying that amount of money for an apartment that small is absurd, which is compounded by a doubling of the water bill during the last year, the complex adding a fee to use the pool, computer room, and workout room, which has all culminated in them keeping my $400 deposit, and requesting that I pay an additional $93.00 after moving out. The final bill really didn't surprise me as the two year stay seemed to be more about gouging the tenants as much as possible. Let me provide some of the highlights of my stay at the complex: 1) Very slow (if any) response to maintenance problems. This started with the apt. hot water heater needing replacement during the first week of my stay. I initially called the problem in around 7:00 am; the crackerjack maintenance staff arrived around 3:30 pm, only to tell me that there was nothing that could be done until the following day. After promising to return by 8:00 am the following morning, aforementioned maintenance persons finally appeared around noon to replace the hot waterā¦Ā See More>anonymous

bugs
My apartment is cute, but the lack of color can be boring. Everything is white. The kitchen tiles look dirty shortly after washing them, they could upgrade that for sure, along with the basic white counters that as well need to be cloroxed daily if you want it to look clean. The one major down fall is living on the ground floor and the bugs that get in. I vacuum up at least 25 pill bugs a week, not counting the ones I can't get to and the spiders are horrible. Overall I have enjoyed my stay here. The grounds are nice along with the residents, with a few improvements oakhurst could be a great place to live.

this place is a joke
it is amazing how a place that looks so nice from the road can be so deceiving. i moved in over 6 months ago and i am not sure i have week 4 weeks without having to call for maintenance (sometimes multiple times for the same issue) or fight with the idiots in the office. all i can suggest is this:

If you don't live here yet, keep on looking somewhere else...

If you live here now, get out when you get the chance.

I have lived all over the US for my job and this is by far the worst community i have lived...in all of North America!!

I'm surprised!
I have been living here since May 06 and have had no problems whatsoever. I'm surprised at some of the comments here. When I moved in, I noticed that my patio blinds were a bit damaged. I had new blinds replaced the same day. I recently had problems with my patio door getting jammed. Once again, maintenance came in that very day and attended to the problem professionally.

I have found the office staff very friendly at all times. I use the community office to fax documents etc sometimes.

Besides, I am really impressed with the cleanliness being maintained here. It's a well lighted community and safe. Another nice development I noticed is that all buildings are currently being freshly painted.

I am really happy with my decision to live here and will be shortly renewing my 7 month lease for a longer period.

Note From The Manager
This site has been brought to my attention and I had a few comments for those reading these reviews.

1. It is a known fact that other apartment communities post comments to make their communities look more favorable and others look bad.

2. You can be the best judge of a community and it's residents. I always tell anyone interested in renting anywhere to visit a community on more than one occassion and during several different times of day. You can see first hand for yourself what type of residents live on the community. The noise level. How clean the community is kept. If there are problems with kids or unfavorable guests. The best judge of where you will feel comfortable is you!

3. During a visit to the community, stop and ask a resident you see for comments on their experiences. They can give you the best answers. As with anything you are buying there will be positives and negatives. What may be a positive to you will be a negative to someone else. thats right mold x 3
I would have to say when I began looking for apartments in this area 1 year ago I thought this was one of the better deals in town. However now that my lease is up, I am counting down the days until I can move out. I initially viewed a model which had a sliding glass door for the patio, this wasn't the case when I moved into MY apartment. No matter what I try, the garbage disposal always reaks. However my biggest complaint is that the water heater (behind a locked door with no key in the laundry room)it constantly leaked which lead to mold all over the baseboards not only in the laundry room, but to the attached kitchen and small dining area walls as well. This happened on 3 different occassions in less than a year! Each time I would report it to the office, a maintenance guy would come the next day, spray mold killer and be out the door in 10 minutes. Apparently this didnt help since it continued to reappear. Then when it came time to renew our lease, they raised our rent $85/month! An extra $85 to live is a small apartment constantlyā¦Ā See More>anonymous

another amli horror story
It seems that the general consensus amoung the posters on this site is that any dealings with the employees of Amli is horrible. I would have to totally agree. I also have had some of the same problems as everyone else who has posted. Billing problems, lack of interest in problems, lost paper work, maintenance issues, damage to cars due to the saftey of the community, etc.

Keep driving unless you feel up for all of this.

Please be aware (long but the truth)
I'm not one to complain on any level as far as apartments and I have lived in several around the Naperville, Lisle and Aurora area. However, I did not have a good experience here. I was treated nicely the first day I went into Amli to see if I could rent an apartment, however, from the day I moved in I had problems.
I notified Amli immediately when I opened up the door to my two bedroom two bath apartment and it smelled so horrible of cat urine. I have owned cats in the past as do many of my friends and never ever has any one of them made the house smell that horrible. Upon reaching someone in the office I was told that maintenance would have to come inspect the problem before anything was taken care of. I asked if the carpet could please be replaced as the smell when it gets hot would just be worse. I also politely asked if the carpets were shampooed I was told yes and a pet gaurd was done on it.
It took Amli a week to get anything taken care of, but yes they did replace the carpet, but meā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Sounds like another Amli employee with another fake review...
Who do you think you're fooling by submitting another bogus review? What in the world do you feel that you gain by this? I'll give you some worthy advice. Instead of wasting time posting fake reviews on this site, do something to improve the abilities of your office staff (that includes the incompetant complex manager). Fire all of them, send them to sensitivity training, do SOMETHING apart from insulting our intelligence with posting fake reviews. One final thing. Your statement of "All of the people who have complained about this property are people who have caused problems for themselves, its clear in what they write." is the most absurd thing that I've ever read. If Amli doesn't respond to TWO SEPARATE EMERGENCY CALLS, the blame is on me? If Amli is horribly slow to respond to service calls for constant apartment problems, the blame is on me? If my water bill doubles overnight (after 16 months) and the apartment manager tells me "that the previous 16 months of bills are incorrect so just pay it", the blame is on me? People who are referring to the so called ------ elements need to get over their prejudices. Its 2006, black people are all over and you can't run away from them whether you're in Naperville or Aurora. So get used to it and get to know people before you make judgments.
