Don´t Stop
I recently moved into an apartment here at Northlake. Originally, I was interested in the one on 355 but was sent to NorthLake with Promises upon Promises-that were lies. Water is included in rent, but you don´t get a bill, so you get a note tacked to your door. This is how you find out how much you owe towards your water bill. When I demanded a water bill, I did not get it from the water company, I got it from another co. that Northlake employs to mail out. No one informed me there is a train running directly behind my apartment and they must have lucked out when I came to see it because I did not hear one at that time. I have been towed twice now because I refuse to put their sticker on my windshield-instead on the dashboard because I do not wish anyone to know that I live in such a trashy hole. Shouldn´t need stickers, listed on application and should be given to their tow-truck co. Lies, Lies, lies, check your lease before you believe them all. Will be moving very soon. When you move in you get a contact list from them for services, ie cable, towing, etc. Friends of management so watch out because they are out to screw you too.

RUN AWAY VERY FAST!!!!!
this is the worst place i have ever lived.the first thing you do is turn in a list of things to correct.it will never get looked at.maintenance is terrible and they come in at will, for no particular reason and without leaving a note(or they just use the bathroom)there is so much noise from other units(usually bass from a stereo) that you have to drowned it out with your own music.i was told that water use is based on my use,NOT TRUE!!! the water use is dependant on the whole building, whether you use it or not.it is a dirty develoement with carts from local grocery stores in the parking lot-maybe homeless people live between the buildings.trash piles up-people don´t put them in the dumpsters.snow and ice removal was abyssmal, and dangerous.
parking is ok,but you can´t have more than one person over because you only get one temp pass for another vehicle

Was this "Wonderful" from the manager?!
O really, so all the sudden some all-"perfectly"-organized review telling everyone about everything there is to know bout this HORRIBLE complex. Is it only us or was that review CLEARLY FORGED by some Northlake staff? Another thing about this complex: expect lots of untrue things. I mean what kind of person would post the distance of an apartment complex from major roads?! That is just pathetic and fake. I lived there for about 2 years with my wife. The staff was rude and you can hear everything through the cheap plastic walls. The floor squeaks with every step. The blinds are never working unless a NEW resident requests--that is BEFORe they actually move in. So unless youýre lousy yourselves or you enjoy dealing with pathetic beings, DON"T MOVE IN, and DON"T BELIEVE their LIES.

Wonderful PLace To Live
I am a current resident at NorthLake, and have been for three going on four years. I have had a wonderful experience with the staff and the property manager since I moved in. I have dealt directly with the maintenance staff on several issues and have
only positive comments about them.

The location is ideal....White´s Ferry is approx. 15 miles to the west(Into Northern Virginia @ Leesburg)....I 270 is approx. 2 miles to the east/Capital Beltway approx.10 miles to the south...Baltimore either 695 from 270 to 70 or the back way 27 to 70 to 695 approx. 40 miles.

Military -- Avoid this one!
I lived in Northlake for about a year when I first moved to the area on a military transfer (Go Navy!). I needed something fast and Northlake was on a list that the offered military direct-pay rent.

It was cheap, so I took it. But I didn´t know any better back then.

The experience was very bad. My washer and dryer never worked correctly. All the closet doors would put on incorrectly and would run off their tracks. The floors in my apartment weren´t even level!

Neighborhood children were always running around outside unattended -- probably playing with fire.

Also, I had to remove my shoes when I walked around or the old man that lived downstairs would come up and yell at me.

My other downstairs neighbor was nicknamed, "Crack------." (Pretty picture, huh?)

And the management staff was never in the office to handle anything.

Anyway, I got out of that place as soon as I could and moved to a much better apartment in Germantown.

I still say the place is cheap in rent, but beware because you get what you pay for. As for quality of life, I hope the military has taken Northlake off of its list of recomendations because they pay us servicemembers enough to where we can live somewhere that´s not a "combat zone."

I recently deployed to the Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and, honestly, it was better than Northlake.
Worst tenants.
The tenants living at N.L don’t have any manners. Most of them don’t respect late hours and don´t care about leaving trash everywhere! Parking is terrible, the swimming pool is the worst I ever seen, the dumpsters are always full of trash and are very stupidly place in areas where don´t add any beauty to the complex. Keep looking somewhere else.

TERRIBLE SERVICE/RUDE PROPERTY MANAGER
I had terrible experience with Northlake apartments. Not only is the property manager rude possessing no customer service skills but she is also a liar. Every person you speak to in the leasing office gives you a different answer.

As for the apartments, they are not well kept ( equipped with out dated appliances and dirty walls and carpets), they are over-priced and very small!
I did not rent from them and I am happy to say that.

I would recommend that all persons looking to rent from Northlake consider looking else where!!

The people in the front office are rude and unwilling to help. They make their own hours. The office is never open when it should be.
People look for apartments on Saturday and Sundays . . they aren’t even open on Sundays.
They want their money on time or they will call and send you letters but yet when you want anything from them it takes months.
I have a small child and it look them 25 days to fix the lock on my door.
I wound up at N.L. because of job transfer and needed something at short notice. Unfortunately the only place that had an availablilty was N.L. You certainly get what you pay for: 17-yr old buildings and no frills. The walls and floors are paper-thin. You can hear everything going on around and above you. My washer sounds like it´s going to take off when it runs and they won´t replace it because it still "works". There have been several dryer fires in the complex as well because they don´t clean the vents. They hadn´t even painted my apartment before I moved in, just touch up the marks on the walls. The carpet was new, but it is very cheap. The bathtub is rusting out and water has gotten behind the walls and rotted the drywall behind the tiles. (Yes, drywall, not greenboard.) The toilet rocks because the waste-stem is broken. Many dog owners let their dogs do their business close to the buildings and don´t clean up after them. There is plenty of space at the edge of the property to walk dogs.

Swallows nest all over the place and you get bird-droppings all over you car. Squirrels are everywhere too. Cars are rusting away in the parking lot. They have a towing service that would just come and tow your car at 11pm on Friday if you didn´t have a sticker or visitor´s tag. After last year´s blizzard it took them nearly a week to bring in a bobcat to clear the snow. The dumpsters were over-flowing because the truck couldn´t get in to empty them.

The management is the worst I´ve ever seen. No one on staff is very bright, educated or gracious by any means. After the 5th of each month they post a sign over the drop-slot that say´s "YOUR RENT IS LATE AND IT MUST BE IN THE FORM OF A MONEY ORDER!!" All notices are posted in all-caps with 2nd grade grammar.

Everyone I know has ants in their apartment. At first they didn´t offer pest control but after MD passed the law that required landlords to provide pest control they now come through once a month.

The maintenance staff is nice but always understaffed - they can´t keep maintenance people.

Groundskeepers come through about every-other-week. Fallen trees are left for months at a time before being chopped up and tossed over the banks at the edge of the property to rot.

My advice, keep looking. Maybe when even more apartments sit vacant for months at a time Northlake will get the hint, but I doubt it - they just don´t care.
Amanda is great!
In regards to the reviewer who called Amanda a -----: this is simply NOT TRUE.

We lived at Northlake for several yeas and recently moved to a larger apartment in the area. We enjoyed our years at northlake and never had any problems with any of the office staff.

Every time we dealt with Amanda, she was pleasant, professional, honest, and things were resolved quickly. Even when we went through the move-out process she remained a delight to deal with. I also had the opportunity during several office visits to observe her in action with other tenants or prospects and she always treated them with respect; even the ones who were being difficult.

I have a suspicion that the reviewer who wrote negatively about Amanda seems to encounter a lot of "-------" wherever they go. Am I right? Perhaps it is because of the way YOU act towards THEM. May I suggest an attitude adjustment?
Think Twice or Three Times
I read the review from the applicant who decided not to rent after viewing models that she did not ask to see. The same thing happened to me. I actually did have a chance to see a one bedroom but it was dirty! The washer/dryer was so awful, I wouldn´t wash a dog´s blanket in that thing! Then he tried to show me an apartment that was for the disabled! I am completely able bodied and could never take the opportunity to have an accessible apartment from someone who isn´t able bodied. I think the Northlake should be conscious of this too but it´s only my opinion. I say keep looking.

All Around Terrible Service
This apartment complex is the worst complex I have ever lived in! The apartment did not come with a washer machine, the garbage disposal did not work, no racks in the refridgerator, the apartment had a severe odor, and the service received from the staff, i.e. Assistant Manager, Asha was the rudest ----- that could possibly used as a customer service advocate. Do not ever consider moving here.

Rude/Odd Staff & too much noise!!!
I read the other review from the person who tried to view an apartment & intelligently chose not to live here.

I know exactly who (staff) they are talking about in the office . . . he is rude and incompetant. The other person´s experience was not unique.

The club house, which is the first thing you see, is very nice. The model/apartment that you view may be nice also . . . but be sure that you view the apartment that you want!!!

The apartment that I lived in was ridiculous & if I had more time to look around at other communities I would have. Take if from me . . . take your time, look around, & check everything!!!

The floor in my apartment had such a slope that when you sat on my couch you felt like you had to lean back to stay on. There was what seemed to be 20 coats of paint over the walls & borders . . . the carpet was cheap, the bathroom left something to be desired, and the parking situation was bad.

Unless you enjoy waking up to the soothing sounds of the horns from the trains that pass by every hour or so . . . live elsewhere.

Did not, and would not live here
I went ot view this apartment earlier this week. I was greeted by the staff and had a good first impression of the staff. My hopes of having found my new home were soon dashed by one of their salespeople. I had asked to be shown a one bedroom. The first place I was shown was the 2 bedroom model. I was unaware that the representative had "mistakenly" grabbed the wrong keys; or so he said. We had to walk back to the sales office and get the right set of keys. We then proceeded to see the second apartment. Again, it was a two bedroom. The rep showed me around and pointed out where the differences would be in the one bedroom. I told him I really wnated to see the one bedroom so I could make an informed decision. He apologized again. He said he must have looked at the computer wrong (mentioned not having his glasses). We walked back to the office and he said that he was mistaken and didn´t have any one bedrooms available. He then asked me if I was sure I only wanted a one bedroom. Maybe I should think about the two. Based on this experience, I wouldn´t even think about stepping foot on the premises again. It wasn´t enough that this sales representative was completely disrespectful by trying to give me something I didn´t want, I then receive a Thank You card that was phot copied for mass production. Not even a "wet signature" for personal touch. I feel sorry for the Northlake apartments. They are doing themselves a dis-service by keeping this person on staff. Oh yeah, the apartments were ok but smelled a little funny and the surrounding area was a little dirty.
