Great place
I lived at Northlake Apartments for 6years and despite some few misunderstanding, I liked the place. My apartment was spacious and the maintenance was perfect, the staff were always professional and friendly. I didn't have major complains, the price was good, and the neighborhood was safe.
My major problem before I have moved out was my pepco electricity which has hit a quite high ceiling. Other than that, I liked the place and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to live in that area.
It is an Excellent property.

Please Don't Move In Here
Although the grounds are nicely kept and the buildings look nice from the outside, please don't bother moving here. If you are having problems with your neighbors (loud music, slamming the door, having parties until 12:00 am with minors present) they will do absolutely nothing. The door knocker on my front door was croked and my door was never painted despite the fact I kept asking for them to fix it. The management is somewhat friendly when you come to pay your rent, but other than that they really couldn't be bothered. Although the are many nice things about this complex, it isn't worth the money.

Addressing the Pepco issue
Residents,
Here at Northlake we have been experiencing some issues with the Pepco bills, to help solve this issue we are aking the our residents do the following:
1)Call Pepco and tell them that you would like to file a complaint.
2)Go to www.psc.state.md.us or call 1800-492-0474 to file a complaint with the
Public Service Commission.
3)Call 1800-492-0474 and let them know that you need an extension on your bill until your dispute is settled. You have th eright to dispute your entire bill if necessary.
4)The Public Service Commission will assign you a case number and an investigator.
5)Try and find as many of your bills as you can.

We here at Northlake are trying our best to work with Pepco to correct the billing, and get everything corrected.

I do not understand why these apartments are so expensive? inside is not too bad but utilities there killed me I think because of poor windows maintenance !!!

Not a bad choice for Germantown
I have been living at Northlake for almost a year, and have been relatively happy with everything. Dishwasher, Washer/Dryer in unit, garbage disposal, all new appliances and renovations.

Rennovation were cheap though. Maintenance will fix asap, but things break too easily. Depending on which lot you are in, cars can get broken into often. Because of renovations, big storage trailers in lot so parking is touch and go. Noise can be an issue between floors; if someone is walking in their apartment above, you know. Neighbors below smoke (not the tobacco kind) and we can tell.

Employees are touch and go. One employee is nice, but disorganized and sometimes rude. Another has never been anything but nice, helpful, and prompt.

NICE PLACE =0 )
AFTER DEALING WITH AN AWFUL EXPIERENCE AT ANOTHER APT WHICH I WILL NOT NAME IT WAS A PLEASENT SUPRISE TO FIND NORTHLAKE APTS.
NOT ONLY ARE THE APT TOTALLY REMODELED, THE LOCATION IS GREAT, THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS A CALM ENVIROMENT, AND THE STAFF HAVE BEEN GREAT WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS. THE PARKING ISNT THAT BAD AS MENTIONED IN PREVIOUS REVIEWS, JUST DONT EXPECT TO FIND A PARKING INFRONT OF YOUR BUILDING AT 10 O CLOCK AT NIGHT. (COMMEN SENSE)I ACUTALLY DONT MIND THE SMALL WALK.. O AND NO ROACHES OR SPIDERS!! LOL *KNOCK ON WOOD*
I Love these apartments. I had been looking for a new apartment for about 2 months. When I came to Northlake I saw the newly renovated apartments and fell in love with them. Oleva and Amanda were terrific. They both made every effort to accommodate my needs and were the most pleasant people to work with. I came back several times to look at the apartments before I made a final decision and they gave me a tour each time with out any hesitation. These apartments are spacious and a pleasure. When I did my check in the only thing I put down was the entry door to my apartment was very scratch up before the day was out MY DOOR HAD BEEN PAINTED. I would reeommend these apartments without hesitation. Thank you Oleva and Amanda for making my move enjoyable.

I have been living in Northlake since July 1, 2006, I really really love my apartment. It has the warmth and quiet I was looking for. My only problem is the parking. Some nites when I get home from work, I cannot find a parking space.

The management office is very helpful, when you need repairs, etc. Oleva is the most pleasant and helpful person in the world, she will make sure everything is taken care of. They should give her a big fat raise. Keep up the good work Oleva, one of your favorite tenants.

decent place to live
Northlake is one of the most affordable complexes in Germantown. It's not "------" like a few other places I know of. The apartments are spacious; the grounds are dcent; parking is usually not a problem; noise level is never a problem in my section.

The only gripe I have is with management's decision to FORCE residents to vacate and either transfer to a different apt. and pay around $100 more per month or leave Northlake alltogether (and still provide 60 days notice!!). I was told I could stay in my un-renovated apt. when I moved in last year which I intended to do. I am quite happy with my current apartment and do not desire upgrades per se. I JUST found out I have to leave by the end of October and it is a huge inconvenience to me.

OLD PLACE.. HORRIBLE MGNT... HORRIBLE APT!!!
Northlake is HORRIBLE!!! We have been there for 2 years, & we are on our way out in Aug when our lease is up. The managment is HORRIBLE. They dont care about you or your problems, they just want to make excuses. We had various thing go wrong in our apt, i.e. hot water heater broken for a month on & off, washing machine broken for 3 months with NO STAFF coming to fix it, all the closet doors off hinges, dishwasher broken several times..... and so on & so on..... When our washing machine was broken it took them 3 months to come back & fix it!! When I called to see what the hell was going on they said oh we forgot, u should have called!! What???? We pay a large amount to live there, its just ridiculous!!! All of the fixtures, appliances are OLD... Our stove barely works, tons & tons more stuff wrong & horrid!!!!!! Horrible freaking place, dirty, old, nasty, horrible!!!! I wouldnt re-rent if u paid me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amanda is my BFF
Ive been at Northlake for about 2 years and its been a pretty good experience. I'm only moving to be closer to work and my family. The staff Rosetta, Amanda and Aleva hav always been hlpful and curteous. Displaying an how can I help you attitude. As opposed to an how can I make your problem your fault type of situation. Maintenance has been good, not taking more than a day to fix anything. And the apartments have all the standard comforts(washer, dryer, dishwasher, central air) without being terribly expensive. The parking situation is mildly annoying. Oh and if someone below you smokes you might as well smoke too. Because thats what your aprtment will smell like. Other than that theres absolutely no reason not to live here.

Great Place to Live
I moved in December of last year and love it here. Amanda Daubert was my point of contact and she was friendly and helpful. If I were to say anything negative about Northlake it would be the construction however that is only to improve the living conditions. It is in a convienient location (close to everything) and the cost of living is not expensive. I would definately recommend this apartment.

Not perfect..but not bad.
I have lived in this community for a little over three years. I will admit that the parking is not great and the fitness center isn't much but it is a good community. The staff is good, Amanda and Olvea are friendly and always helpful. The maintenance staff is timely and gets the job done. If you are looking for a good community and a reasonable rate this is a nice place to live.

NEVER
I live on the 2nd floor and the noise is UNBELIEVABLE! The people above me stomp around and have a dog that NEVER STOPS BARKING! I am a nurse so many times I work night shift and I have come home to see wannabe "gangsters" hanging outside on the steps. Im scared to even enter my own home. People also like to leave trash in the hallway and it leaves horrible smells. THANK GOD I WAS ALLOWED TO LEAVE IN 30 DAYS! DON'T DO IT YOU WILL BE SORRY!

It's all about them
We moved here a year ago with the intent to stay a couple of years until we could purchase a home. Originally we were very happy and were very content with the location and rent. Meanwhile Owner/mgt. decided to put in some new cabinets, and sinks and call it "all new". Well as far as we are concerned it is still the same apt. with a few adjustments. It totally does not warrant the $400 increase in rent. I mean the space didnt get any larger. The parking (that sucks) isnt getting better. the "athletic room" (only open during business hours) hasn't changed. Like I dont have to work and can use it at will (duhhhh). The years of bad painting over dirt and holes hasn't changed so I don't see where they think this is such a great deal. The reason I am leaving is because I find it wrong to tell people they have to move to a "new" apt. or leave the community wiht a short notice. What about the elderly people that are on fixed incomes. Besides the financial burden of packing everything and moving "across the street" they lie and say we put that "notice" up before hand when they are going to do something when indeed it was way after the fact and did not allow us the time to prepare. I have complained about this but they dont care. So we are supposed to be mind readers apparently.

They required us to put our pets up in a crate, bathroom or find someone to babysit about 12 times all day long(while they improve....to their own benefit). Just to find out they didnt show up the scheduled day. I am sorry but since they have a #300.00 deposit plus $25 per pet monthly pet rent they deserve to be at home just like everyone else.

We had a meeting scheduled with them (So I put off doing other things to be present at) to discuss our staying the next year only to be told that sorry I cant do that right now because I have people wanting to see the apartments.

Coming from a property mgmt. position prior myself It has always been my opinion that is easier to keep a customer than to get a new one. But who am I.

The office will lie to you every time they can just to get you to go away. They act like this is the best place in town....NOT!!

The hallways are always dirty. The parking sucks. It is very limited and by decal only so if you want to have a friend over you have to put a tag in their car. If you want two friends to come over they have to park at the school and walk a mile to your home. So don't ever plan to have two grandmothers for thanksgiving cause one will ware out a walker getting to you.

I would not recommend this place to anyone

nice place to live
I have lived at Northlake for 2 years, and have enjoyed it. The apartments are older but are nice compared to other comunities in the area that are just as old. The maintenance staff is real good and take care of the problem quickly. I do wish the fitness center was open 24 hours a day.

Not the best or worst place to live
have lived at Northlake for about one month. For Germantown, the rent is cheap and the apartment is ok -- a little old but ok. I only pay $1090 (i.e., $1000 for rent and $90 per month pet fee for 2 large dogs).

I do suggest that the take more turnaround time between renters for fixing up the apartment. So far, I had to call them about various items not working upon moving (i.e., dishwasher, garbage disposal and the washer/dry. But they were very quick to fix the problems.

Also, you dont have to be aware of the parking sticker. You should also be ware of the water bill! They hire National Water & Power to send you a bill with the wrong information on how to pay it. Once you pay your water bill to National Water & Power, as indicated on the bill, the rental office sends you a letter claiming you didnt pay the bill. Please note, the rental office staff tells you that the bill should be paid directly to the rental office so how do you know what to do?

The apartments are very large dog friendly. I have two boxers and the neighbors are friendly. The apartments are close to bus routes and the Marc train as well as stores.

Old but good/cheap place to live
I do not understand why so many people got into so much problem with the office staffs! After living at NL for 1 year to save the money for a small town home, I don't have any problem with the staffs; they always seem to be helpful and nice to me! Sure the place is old but for the price I think it's worth it. You will never have any problem with parking but beware of the parking sticker! They will tow your car if you don't have one. The wall is a bit thin between apartment, therefore you will hear some noise from the next door. The only negative come from me is that the washer/drier is very small, but at lease you have one inside your aprt room. Best wish for you all!

Living for 4 years
I've been living in Northlake for 4 years. I can't say it's the best place of all. The buildings are old, material is cheap, utilities are old (washer, freezer, etc), window nets are old and some are broken. Occasionally fights between some 'trash' or 'family members'.

But let's be honest here too; I've been to many apartment complexes and had a 'dream' of moving out and living a better life in a better environment. Believe me this way or that way all has problems, and to be honest, quite similar to Northlake.

I'm not the biggest defendent of Northlake community, however, for 'someone' who can't afford more than $ 1,050-70, DON'T HAVE ULTIMATE EXPECTATIONS. (I don't) For this price range you can't really find a 'dream community' in anywhere in this area either. This and similar places will be pretty much the same.

So, I'd recommend it for 'New Beginners', 'Students', 'Low-income' people. Oh, if you can afford $1,200 ? Don't even waste your time for stopping by :)

bad to worse overnight
I'll spare you the exact details, but this place went from bad to worse overnight. The management and staff kept changing and every time I had a problem, the building super always had 10 other things to do that were more important. In addition, the staff made it a point to make me feel awkward and belittle me every time I called the office. I honestly only had a few problems and don't think any of my requests were unreasonable. This doesn't even cover the neighborhood which I finally left when it became obvious that no one would stop the dope-dealing teenagers that loitered the halls.

Some people are stuck up...
I've been living here for almost 2 years, and I already wrote a review some time ago, but I've been reading some of the bashing posted since and I have to respond to some of these stuck-up idiots.
First off, these apartments offer a LOT of amenities for such low rent, try finding that elsewhere in Montgomery county. They are convenient to I270 (yes, proximity to major roads, commuter resources, etc. DOES matter), and there is a shopping center within walking distance.
Yes, the buildings are aging, the walls are thin, and there is a train that goes by. But the train is not loud, and has never woken me up or disturbed me watching TV(considering I live in the building closest to the tracks). And if you have a problem with your neighbors playing their music too lound maybe you should TALK to your neighbors instead of blaming it on the management.

Complaining about towing? That's your fault I you don't want to follow the rules and attatch a parking sticker. Yes, it would be nice to have more guest parking, but with some tenants being jerks and taking up more than one space, there just isn't enough room.

Complaining about trash? Again, that's a problem with the tenants, not the staff. Maybe they should jsut refuse to lease to people who were raised in a barn, and who don't care about others.

In fact, most of the problems I have seem to relate more to the tenants, than with the facilities and staff. In my numerous dealings with them, I have found them to be courteous and helpful, and the maintenance staff prompt and professional. (I have not encountered the disgusting "trolls" referenced in another post) Maybe it's because when I deal with them, I'm respectful, instead of acting like a jerk. And I don't know what that one poster did wrong, but I get a water bill in the mail, I always have.

Come on people, you get a LOT for your money at this place. I looked at MANY apratments all over the Rockville/Gaithersburg/Germantown area and this was by far the best value. If you think they are crapholes, then go somewhere nicer, but be prepared to spend hundreds more. I have not regretted my decision.
