the building is beautiful. but it is old. expect plumbung issues and pests. the walk into the woods is nice but there is a patch that smells like sewage in the lawn. also dog poop in the lawn may ruin some mornings. parking is ample and secure. it is dangerous to park street side. thats a plus. maintenance work is prompt but like i said before, old building and plumbung issues. finally, i had a bad experience with the manager. he gave me some bad information that cost me late charges in my rent. overall ok place. but dont take the realtor's word. get everything in writing. enjoy.

My fiance and I just moved into Alden Park at the end of July. The grounds are beautiful. The fitness facility is very nice, especially the pool, hot tub, and locker rooms. We are very satisfied with our apartment. While we have required a few visits from maintenance after moving in, we have had no major issues, and maintenance has been pretty responsive. So far, we haven't experienced any issues with pests except for a gnat here or there. After a month in a near-100 year old building across the street from Germantown, I saw only 1 dead roach and it was in the staircase leading up from the basement. I'd say that's pretty good! In our experience, parking has been ample most of the time, unless you're out very late and even then at 1 AM, we were able to find a spot after some searching. There are 3 lots after all. I've seen some complaints about the availability of parking, but I'd be willing to bet that a lot of these complaints are from people that aren't used to having to look for parking in Philadelphia. For us, it's a huge improvement! Staff at Centers One and Two have been very nice and helpful. Primarily, we've done most of our business/taken most of our inquiries through Andrew in the main office, who has responded promptly to my emails and has gone out of his way to help us get quick action by maintenance. In conclusion: For the price and all that you get, we are very happy with our experience so far. I'll have to follow up in a year or two and I hope that we can still have the same positive things to say.

Hi I will soon be a new resident at Alden Park coming in October. I am so sorry that I took the time out and read some of the 2013 reviews. Some where inspiring, others were very upsetting. Although I have read all of the responses that I care to read at this time, I will continue with my plans and move here in October. I am going to keep an open mind, and I will not allow these comments to deter me from my goal of revamping my life. I have only had the pleasure of speaking to only one person on the management staff(Andrew Brown), and he has been excellent. He has truly been an inspiration and a wonderful person to have as a guide. I look forward to being a part of this community in the near future.

Alden Park is a step ahead of the other apartment complexes in every way. Under the new management of the highly regarded Scully Company, the premises are clean and secure with a helpful, reliable staff to assist you with any of your needs. I hate to break it to a few of the responders, but I do not work for Alden Park or Scully I just live here and go to school. Perhaps you'd like an example of my experience. When I first moved in my place had a noticeable smell of cooking gas because the pilot lights were out. I requested someone come relight them and check to make sure there weren't any other issues. This problem was resolved within twenty minutes. Recently, I had a clog in my shower drain, made the request for help and it was resolved in a timely manner. Every time I have gone to them with an issue, it has been taken care of quickly and effectively. Every actual staff person I have dealt with has been approachable and helpful, same goes for the other residents.

Anyone who has lived at Alden: are the in-unit dryers not vented outside? I have read all of the other complaints but haven't seen that as an issue.... Has no one had problems with the kitchen getting humid and warm, and the clothes not drying quickly????? Please let me know ASAP! Thank you!

I have been living at Alden Park now for 6 months and I must say that I love my apartment. I picked Alden Park because of the location, which is very close to City Avenue where I work. Over the past 6 months I've had to call for maintenance about twice and each time my concerns were addressed promptly. The grounds seem to be well maintained, and the office staff has been helpful when I have called. I referred two people here so far, one got approved and one did not, but for the one who got approved the office gave me 500.00 as a referral fee. It is a pretty old community, but they do a really good job with maintaining it and keeping things up to date.

We fell in love with Alden Park when we first saw it. The grounds and amenities are excellent and our apartment is beautiful. We saw many apartments and I can't say they are all as nice as ours. The other ones we saw were a mix of 60's,70's and 80's features and flooring all mixed together in one apartment. Ours is definitely more on the luxury vibration, with new fixtures, tile and flooring. Our fireplace gorgeous, but be for warned that the buildings blaring fire alarm, has gone off at least 8 or 9 times in the past 6 months. It is pretty scary and upsetting when it goes off late at night or early in the mornings at 6am,like it did two days ago. When it goes off it is the most ear piercing sound and is truly alarming, also you can't get away from it, because it is connected to the building and they wait for the fire department to come and shut it off. It seems most people are use to it now, because no one leaves their apartments when it goes off. The number of false alarms make it a dangerous situation, because if there really was a fire people would just figure it is another false alarm. It is totally unacceptable and needs to be fixed. To their credit though, their maintenance staff is wonderful. They are efficient, fast and friendly. They really do make a good representation for the complex. I wish I could say the same about the management staff. Some of them are nothing but RUDE,RUDE,RUDE and need to take courses in customer service as well as business courses. There are however a few people on the office staff which were and continue to be a professional delight to deal with. They are Sun, Andrew and Sheila. I am hoping that they will at some point change their management staff, because their upper management does NOT understand what it is to work for a luxury complex, and in my opinion they would be better suited for something like fast food or some other type of business, where that type of attitude is more commonplace and accepted. We love our apartment, Andrew, Sun,Sheila, the maintenance staff as well as the staff in the gym, but with the way we have been treated by management , we could not in good conscience recommend this complex, not if you desire to be treated with an ounce of respect by those who are there to help you. FYI-dog owners, there is a LONG list of about 20 types of dogs that are not welcome here.

We have been in Alden Park for a little over a month now, and I must say that my experience has gone above and beyond my expectations. The earlier reviews here will lead you to believe that the place is crumbling and covered with roaches, and that the maintenance staff and office staff are incompetent. That is not the case at all! 1) Grounds: The grounds are beautiful and the amenities plentiful. It is clear that a lot of care and effort has gone into the park in the past few years. There is so much space and everything is well manicured. The tennis courts are currently being redone and the parking lot is to follow. There are gas and charcoal grills available and multiple places to eat and hang out outside. 2) Amenities & Facilities: I'm not big on amenities. Other communities try to sell you on things like media rooms. I'd rather watch a movie curled up in my own apartment, thanks. That being said, what is offered here is top notch. The gym just got all new machines, and the pool is absolutely GORGEOUS! I can't get over how nice it is. The only complaint I have in this department is over the lobby and hallways of our building. It is so sad walking into such a beautiful building and seeing such a lonely and worn looking space. If they could spruce this up a bit, it would change the total feel of the place. (On a side note Scully: I'm an Interior Designer. Give me a call) 3) The Apartment: We live in the Cambridge building, so I can't speak for the Manor or the Kenilworth. Our apartment is great. We have two bedrooms, one bath, a laundry room and dining room, as well as french doors and a working wood burning fireplace. We have a view of Center City from every room. There is so much character, from the plaster moldings to the casement windows, there is just no comparison with newer buildings. I have no complaints with windows. We have had no issues with heat exchange with the outside and our electricity bill seems reasonable. We do not share any walls with neighbors, so noise hasn't been an issue at all. The only complaint I have about the apartment is the flooring. It has standard rental carpeting throughout, which just lessens the overall elegance of the place. But it's a minor detail. 4) The Staff: The office staff is great. We worked with Bailee, and despite my incessant emails and questions, she has always been very helpful. She really has made the whole process of moving much easier and smoother. The maintenance staff is fantastic as well. They have a proactive attitude, and suggest that you report even the smallest problem right away - a necessity for old buildings. For the few issues I've had, they have responded the same day or the following day. They really are the best maintenance team I've ever had. 5) The area: The area is great. We moved here from Manhattan, and I was a bit concerned about proximity of shops and services. But I've been pleasantly surprised. To the North is Germantown, and within a couple of blocks you have all your basic services. To the east and south, East Falls. The neighborhood is beautiful and down Midvale Ave, there are all kinds of great shops and restaurants. Beyond that is City Ave, which is very convenient. To the west is the Wissahickon section of Fairmount Park, which is so nice to have, and then Manayunk, which again, has lots of great shops and restaurants. There are two convenient train stops within a couple of blocks of the apt, and from there you're only 10-15 minutes from Center City. All in all, I am very pleased with our choice. I can't recommend this community enough!

Overall, I have a positive view of Alden Park. I am moving out, but it is because I want to move closer to work, not because I dislike Alden. The appliances in our unit had last been updated in 1996, and we did have various problems with them. However, the issues were fixed rather quickly. There was one instance where I was having difficulty getting a dryer repaired, but I contacted Mr. McAdams and he authorized a replacement immediately. Upon moving out, the unit has a brand new washer/dryer, stove, and toilet. We also had quite a problem with cockroaches. We found about one roach per day in the apartment because we were on the first floor. No matter how often I cleaned, I couldn't get rid of them. But, this problem eventually got resolved when the exterminator found a nest hiding somewhere in the basement. My only real complaint is that there was a significant draft. We knew before moving in that the single-pane windows were going to need some attention during the winter months. Even with the windows closed, the curtains still blew about with the wind. We decided to insulate our windows in the winter to save on energy. We put up a double layer of thick plastic, and sealed the edges well. Even though, we could still feel a draft. I think it was coming from the floorboards in places, particularly in the bedrooms. The living room and den stayed very warm, but the bedrooms were very cold. Despite the issues, I do have a positive review of Alden. I loved using the onsite gym. They upgraded it while we were living there, and the new equipment was great. The gym attendant, Harry, was always extremely helpful and friendly. I think the buildings and the grounds are very beautiful. I loved to walk around the complex, and I always felt safe doing so. Proximity to public transportation was very important for my roommates and I. Having access to the trains was a big plus. Additionally, I could leave my car on the premises without worrying about it. There is always a place to park (though without parking lines other people tend to take up quite a bit of space). Our apartment had great amenities for the price, and it was very big. Our apartment was 1400 sq ft with two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a den. We had a washer/dryer in unit. Trash was convenient to dispose of. I hope if you decide to go with Alden Park, that you like it as much as I do.

I lived at Alden Park for three years. I loved my apartments - I moved from a studio to a one bedroom in the three years I was there. My last apartment was beautiful and had a fire place. It was also cheaper than the studio I lived in! I did have a lot of problems in my last year there with very noisey students from Philadelphia University - loud parties during the week and on the weekend. They would run up and down the hallways like little kids at all hours of the day and slam doors constantly. They were so loud in their apartment, I could hear them through my wall all the time. I had to call security frequently on them. I work and go to school so I didn't need the noise issue - the Philadelphia University students and the Drexel Med Students treat Alden like it is a dorm. The doors were frequently kept open so anyone could enter. The best time of the year is when they are on break and not home!! I suffered some financial difficulties in the last year I lived there which caused me to get behind on rent. I worked out a payment plan with ----- (the new management) and paid it off as agreed. When it came time to renew my lease, they would not renew it. When I called to speak to -----, he told me that they had to have tenants that could always pay their rent on time. He was rude and down right nasty to me. I hope he never experiences a financial problem in his lifetime that causes him to need someone to help him and be understanding. While the new management was doing a lot to improve the place, they were not helpful and really nasty when it came down to dealing with tenants. The electric bills are OUTRAGEOUS and are not directly from the electric company - they are handled by a third party company so who knows what else you are paying for.

Hi, I have been living at Alden Park for over a year now and I love it. I live in the manor building which is very convenient to me since I take public transportation and the walk is only 5-10 minuets away from the building. I love the lobby which reminds me of lobbies from a 1930's movie and the grounds are beautifully kept. The apartment itself is a nice size and has a street view which is its best feature. As for my encounters with the leasing staff, I have never had any problems with any of the people in the office nor in maintence, but then again I never really had any need to call the office for anything. The only con I can think of right now is the fire alarms going off at the most inconvenient times. In the last week the fire alarm went off three separate times, 2 times at night while I was trying to go to sleep and once during the week on my day off. to say I was peeved would be putting it mildly, but so far that is the only thing I do not like about Alden Park. Now would I recommend Alden Park? Yes I would, this apartment community is in an area that is close to city ave, manayunk and transportation that can take you downtown. You will not be sorry to come here.

I moved to Alden Park about two years ago. I rent a lovely 3 bedroom with a great working fireplace. The building is solid and one never hears noise from other units. Ever since Scully took over the management, things have improved dramatically. The driveway has been totally repaved, there is substantial money going in to capital improvements and the maintenance team is fantastic. I recently called twice when a ceiling light fixture in my kitchen went out and when a sink in one of the bathrooms pulled away from the wall (molley came loose). Within 24 hours both were fixed beautifully by a maintenance staff that is professional, courteous, and friendly. One cannot find the kind of space for the money anywhere else. If you are at the Drexel medical school or Philadelphia University or in transition between marriages etc. this is a great value and beautifully located just off Lincoln Drive, minutes from 76, center city or king of prussia.

This experience has been such a disappointment. The back window of my car was smashed with the security guards sitting right there. And of course no one saw anything. No one offered any hint of concern. Don't waste your time speaking with ---------------------------- in the front office. All are rude, lazy and know nothing!! They brag about the security on site. Security are just plain old parking lot attendants, that want to police the people who live on the property instead of trying to protect the residents. If you can avoid this apartment community at all costs.

I have lived at Alden Park for several years and we love the experience. The overall setting is fantastic, the units are large and well appointed - we have a fireplace and a washer/dryer in our unit. Management is very responsive to requests for maintenance and upkeep - we recently requested new carpets for our unit since we have lived in it for several years and within 3 weeks we had the carpets estimated, approved and installed. These are older buildings with historically certified exteriors which puts limits on some maintenance like leaks after a bad storm, but over all it's a pleasure living at Alden Park. In addition to the apartments and the grounds, the complex has one of the nicest indoor pools you will find anywhere in the country - 75', heated year round, a retractable roof in the summer and completely tiled in handmade tiles (I believe Moravian tiles, but can't recall). And as I like to say, you're 20 minutes from everywhere: Center City by train, car, or bike (slightly longer than 20 mins!), King of Prussia. Chestnut Hill. And just 3/4 mile down to the best running and biking trails around on Forbidden Drive. Frankly, we're spoiled.

I moved her may of 2012 and I absolutely love it! The apartments are beautiful with the large windows and fireplaces. Before i moved in they replaced the carpets and even installed a new dishwasher and microwave which was great! The staff have never been anything but sweet to me. My only complaints would be the location isn't exactly walkable to many shops or cafes and maintenance have not been extremely responsive over very small things that need to be fixed. Overall I love the beauty of the apartments and enjoy living here!

Management here is extremely rude!!! Beware of Frank in Finance. He belittles you and dodged the question when you ask a dimples question. Apartment here was ok...until it started falling apart. There were centipedes coming through vents and you can leave your window open of bugs will fly in. My ceiling started to fall on me and I asked maintenance to fix it and all they did was rip off the falling parts, smooth it down and paint over it. After that, I've stayed at my boyfriend's for the next three months and used my apartment as storage. Management came into my apartment 3 times a month to "check things", shut off the water 4 times in a month, and blocked off the front entry 3 times another month. Never once was there an apology. Just another note posted in the elevator that they are planning to do it again. Parking is horrible. They give out more stickers than they have spaces. And street parking is dangerous. Every single day, a car is broken into. Don't trust me? Look at the fresh glass on the sidewalk any day. They also lose your packages and and I'm always getting other people's mail! Do NOT live here. There's a reason they have to do so many specials and cheap rates. It's not worth it. Pay a little more for your security... I have.

The apartment complex is in a great area. The biggest problem with the apartment is its windows. They are old and have not been replaced so they are warped and require maintenance for that reason. The staff is always accessible and friendly. I am quite happy with this. Also, I was expecting all of the units to have laundry facilities in them but the Manor building has its laundry facilities in the basement and they require payment. Living in Alden Park is not inexpensive and you pay for your service, I would love the apartment more if it offered a washer/dryer in the apartment. Overall, it is a nice place, but I recommend looking for the place that best suits you.

DO NOT BE TRICKED BY THE BEAUTY OF ALDEN PARK! I've been living here for a few months now and have had nothing but woes since moving in. I first contacted Alden two years ago in hopes of finding a studio apartment for myself, and should've realized then living here would bring me nothing but troubles; they never responded to my e-mails or phone calls. A year later, I decided to get a two-bedroom with one of my friends and quickly realized it was an extremely poor decision. Our lease has had to be redone multiple times, the leasing agent had NO idea what she was doing (we had to change our method of payment multiple times, at first we were told a personal check would work, then we were told it had to be a cashier's check, then we were told it had to be a money order, then we were told that all of the up-front fees had to be separate money orders; I had to go from the bank/post office four times just to pay). I also have a pet, and was originally told that the security deposit for my dog had been paid with all the upfront payments we made. A few months later I received a pet violation notice under my door telling me I had two days to get rid of the dog or pay the $250 security deposit in addition to $25 for each month I'd been living there. It was also then that I found out my Malamute-Shepard mix was a restricted breed, even though before signing any lease I provided his paperwork and a photo and was told that he was fine. When a leasing manager showed up at my apartment and demanded to come in and talk with me, I explained that it was all because of the confusion created by the leasing office, his response was basically 'so what? do what I say or get evicted and have your credit ruined.' When we finally got moved into our apartment, we found out we only had one bath rather than two (fortunately, they gave us a free month's rent and $100 off, probably because I could've sued them big time for such a big mistake). I was fine with one bath up until the construction on the floor above me flooded our walls. Originally, they said the construction would be done in two days; four weeks later they've finally finished. Contractors would show up at random times without warning to do their work and left the bathroom a huge mess every time they left. They threw everything that was in the bathroom into our hallway and never took two minutes to put it back. They didn't even clean up the dust and mortar that was all over the bathroom. The end result was that they installed a new drain pipe for the toilet and shower in the bathroom above us below the ceiling (there were exposed pipes running across the ceiling of our bathroom for weeks). I figured this was a temporary fix, but they just ended up installing sheetrock all around the pipes (which they did not do a decent job of doing) and made our already tiny, single bathroom seem significantly smaller. Parking is a whole other issue. Most of the apartment buildings share one large lot that's large enough for everyone, but I live in Cambridge which shares a smaller lot with a few other buildings. 90% of the time when I come home from work, there's no parking available and I have to go to the other lot and walk to my apartment. The lot has no lines, so cars just kind of park wherever they want which results in the space not being used efficiently. Occasionally, I'll park in what appears to be a spot only to receive a call in the middle of the night saying that my car is illegally parked and must be moved or towed. Also, the physical plant here does not do their job. Our AC unit has been freezing over, our tub has a leaky faucet, and the toilet leaks around the base. We've filed work orders, yet the AC still freezes over, the tub still leaks and so does the toilet. The only 'work' they did to solve our issues was to tighten the base of the toilet despite that the real solution is to replace the wax sealing ring under the toilet. It's gotten to a point that if I have a problem in the apartment, I just fix it myself. When I first read other peoples' reviews of Alden, I took it with a grain of salt and just assumed it was a series of people backlashing because one small thing they didn't like happened; it's easy for people to write false statements online because they're angry and seeking revenge in some strange way. But take it from someone who lives here and has learned their first lesson in renting an apartment. While Alden Park is a beautiful place and I have an amazing skyline view of the city, it's not worth paying over $1400 a month to live in a place with such dysfunctional and irresponsible leasing management. Find yourself another less expensive, but well-managed apartment in the area and save yourself the copious amounts of stress that is one of the many amenities of Alden Park Apartments.

                                      10/4/2012

I am originally from NY and have lived in PA for about 9 months now, but I just moved into Alden Park literally a few days ago. Therefore my review will undoubtedly be biased, since I have not been living here nearly long enough to evaluate issues. Another reason this is biased is because prior to moving into Alden Park, I was living with roommates in Manayunk who turned out in the end to be irresponsible, dishonest, unemployed, paycheck-stealing, probably-drug-addicted, revoltingly filthy scumbags..... Having said all of that, I can safely say that moving into Alden Park has been a source of great relief and excitement for me. I've never lived in a complex before and I'm sure it will take some getting used to, but the history and age of the buildings was something that I actually was attracted to. They have many charming features that you simply don't see anywhere else these days, and its proximity to the park was a huge selling point for me. Between the security of high-rise gated facilities, the extra property amenities (like a beautiful swimming pool and forested areas), and the incredibly comprehensive and positive service from my leasing agent Andrew Brown, I feel that this is a huge step up for me. I have read a bunch of the other reviews for Alden Park and I'm sure there are some people out there with legitimate concerns about the grounds, staff and/or crazy/toxic neighbors. But for me this is about 100 times better than having those crazy/toxic people smoking cigarettes INSIDE YOUR KITCHEN when you get home from work, scheming about how to rip people off, and wallowing in their own filth right outside your bedroom door, with a landlord that is too incompetent and naive to kick them out after they've failed to pay rent for HALF A YEAR....Sorry, I digress. TMI. Anyway, as I said, this is a biased move for me because of the nightmare situation I am leaving behind. But so far, Alden Park has been my enchanted castle on the hilltop, and I am very much looking forward to my stay.

I moved here in May 2012. I would not recommend this complex. IT IS ROACH INFESTED. It is also so old, poorly maintained and at this point beginning to fall apart. Furthermore, the people in the building are unfriendly. Also, the rent is WAY over priced considering the conditions. The rooms are EXTREMELY drafty so cooling is extremely energy inefficient. Furthermore, the staff is unprofessional and when you call for help regarding the disgusting ROACH PROBLEM no one ever answers the phone or returns messages. I'm considering breaking the lease to get out as no one cares and will not help about the ROACH PROBLEM. The only good thing is parking. There is parking but that is about it. On the contrary, the parking lot is a pain to get in and out of AND the security guards are such a pain in the --- there is often a 5 car line stretching into the street to get in.

This will be my third year living at Alden. I chose this place because it is a short walking distance to Philadelphia University and they offered a summer deal that made it the cheapest apartment near that school. The first two years I lived in a 325 sq. ft studio in the Manor building. The experience wasn't bad. Personally, it didn't bother me that I could hear my neighbors talking and bustling around in their space. My electric bills were extrememly low, rarely was a bill more than $20, but that probably was because my place was small. The staff are nice and things have improved since Scully took over. Whenever there was a maintenance problem they were very prompt with fixing it the same day and the maintenance guys are very friendly. There's ample parking and I've never felt threatened or unsafe while living here. (School House Lane is a different story though). There were several pest issues, including a mouse problem. It was a bit irksome that the pest control put out one sticky trap instead of searching for the way they were able to get into the apartment. Luckily, I found the holes, clogged them with steel wool, and never saw any more mice. My studio was on the first floor and after they put down mulch along the perimeter of the building I started seeing alot of flies entering through my windows- and with the flies came spiders. Even after putting plastic over the windows they were still able to come into the apartment. I recently moved from Manor to Kenilworth and it's made a significant difference. (My kind leasing agent, Andrew, made the move very easy.) The walls seem thicker because there is minimal noise. Maintenance is quick to respond and though I've found more ants than I'd like to find, I can at least open and use my windows. All in all, I've found Alden to be a nice place, but I think it really depends in which building you live.

I moved into this apartment about 6 months ago. I have constantly contacted the front office about the mice seen in the kitchen. The front office constantly transfers me to the maintenance department, who really don't seem to give a damn. They explained that I would be on the list for the pest control guy to come in. He has come in twice, set traps/glue traps and not come back. Does he expect me to remove dead or live mice stuck to a glue trap? I have caught two mice within the last two weeks on wooded traps I have set myself. What are they paying this pest control guy for? Why not look for ways to prevent the mice from coming into the apartment. How would Alden Park feel if I refused to pay my rent because I am now handling my own pest control! My next step is to contact an attorney about my renters rights and living with RODENTS! This place is proving to be a well paid mouse trap. There are also two sex offenders registered on megans law.com to this address at Alden Park apartments that have been convicted of crimes against children. No one even mentioned this before we moved in. I will certainly be seeking legal advise on this issue also!!
